keep urself clean and keep up with ur basic hygiene (shower every day)

get hungry for knowledge - go to libraries, read in coffee shops, etc.

always be kind and don’t talk crap about people! this is a big one because it really affects ur attitude and the way other people see u

stay organized. an easy way to do this is just to tidy ur room before you go to bed. this way, ur bedroom is more ur sanctuary

do ur hair pretty!! use accessories like scrunchies, headbands, claw clips, etc.

always have your essentials in ur bag (menstrual products, lip gloss, phone, earbuds, whatever makes u feel prepared)

remember that u don’t have to prove anything to others. make urself enough for u personally without worrying what other people think, because chances are they’re focused more on themselves

if u embarrass yourself, laugh it off and stay calm. u are above embarrassment babes, u are divine, so a little slipup won’t matter

have dance parties in ur room to songs that make u feel confident

DONT CHASE ATTRACT

remember that control doesn’t mean controlling other people. control means controlling ur own assumptions

breathe. just breathe. and remember u are beautiful <3

My goal for this week: fixing my procrastination.

Even though I know it's not fixable in a week I think, I am able to grow healthy routines and habits in a week that will be the support I need to stop!

Thank you sososos much for the tip lovely 💗💗🎀

How do I stop procrastinating getting my life together. I'm not sure if you understand what I mean....as in how do I stop procrastinating getting out of my comfor zone to do better

GUIDE TO DEALING WITH PROCRASTINATION

Procrastination is delaying a task because of fear or anxiety about doing it. If you frequently procrastinate, it may result from your current mindset. In this post, I will discuss the reasons behind procrastination and how to overcome it by getting started.

AVOIDANCE MINDSET

If you’ve been in their comfort zone for quite a long time, you may be familiar with this term. An avoidance mindset is when we focus more on preventing possible negative consequences, rather than pursuing positive outcomes. This leads to procrastination, avoiding risks or challenges and generally staying in their comfort zones to avoid discomfort and failure.

This mindset usually stems from a fear that is holding you back which is keeping you ‘safe’, which is why we feel discomfort when trying new things. Fear of failure, wasting time, rejection and change are a few common ones.

Doing self-reflection or quizzes are the most efficient way to identify your fears if you haven’t already. Challenge negative beliefs that cause that fear to grow.

The recommended way to shift your mindset from an avoidance one to a growth mindset is by focusing on the benefits that you’ll get from it. E.g.

‘Exercising is too hard’ -> ‘I’ll feel good about myself after’

‘Studying is boring’ -> ‘I’ll be proud of myself after achieving high grades’

‘Meeting new people is scary’ -> ‘I can’t wait to have a new friend’

PRODUCTIVITY WITH PROCRASTINATION

BREAK TASKS INTO SMALLER CHUNKS, and if it seems too difficult, do it over a week/fortnight. When tasks are smaller, they seem simpler and easier, so we don’t feel the need to delay them. For example...

Deep clean my room -> Wipe down all surfaces & put new bedding OR Monday I’ll wipe down surfaces, then Wednesday I’ll put new bedding.

MAKE THE TASK SPECIFIC. If the task is vague, it can seem too daunting to start because we have no idea how to start. For example, instead of saying studying for my science test, say do 3 rounds of science flashcards. We know exactly what to do, so it doesn’t give reason for us to delay it.

HAVE A ROUTINE. Having a consistent daily routine helps us to stay on track because our brains love routines and familiar activities, and it pushes us further because our brains will feel discomfort if that routine is not done.

However, if you are someone who procrastinates, avoid micromanaging your day. It can seem way too overwhelming, but even if you do it, it can lead to being burnt out.

KEEP ORGANISED. Being in an environment which is constantly cluttered, or having no way to remember everything that goes in your life, will make you have a cluttered mind, A cluttered mind will influence your actions to also be out of place.

DEVELOP A GROWTH MINDSET. I do have a post on this which is linked on my masterlist. The whole idea of a growth mindset is to embrace the idea that failure further improves us, instead of setting us back.

NOT GETTING BUMMED OUT FROM UPSETTING THINGS

It's very easy to enter a depressive state nowadays, especially with all of the things that are going on right now. We can still do things to acknowledge what is going on without having a dark mindset.

NOT GETTING BUMMED OUT FROM UPSETTING THINGS

ACKNOWLEDGE YOUR FEELINGS

this is the first and arguably most crucial step. It's important to allow yourself to feel what you're feeling. Do not attempt to suppress your emotions or berate yourself for feeling a certain way. Instead, acknowledge these feelings as a natural reaction to something upsetting.

PRACTICE MINDFULNESS

Mindfulness is the ability to stay fully engaged in the present moment. This practice can help you avoid dwelling excessively on things that upset you. Try to focus on your breath, the sensation of the air around you, or the sounds you hear. This can provide a much needed break from the cycle of negative thoughts.

DON'T OVER CONSUME

Over consuming negative media can be another way we can put pressure on our mind. The more negative media we consume the more negative thoughts we have. Blocking certain tags on social sites can be a great way to eliminate negative media in your life. Recognizing these things going on in the world is great, but throwing yourself into all of it isn't.

FOCUS ON THE POSITIVE

When something upsetting occurs, it's easy to get lost in a sea of negativity. However, try to shift your focus to something positive in your life, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant. This could be anything from a recent accomplishment to the love and support of your friends and family. Remembering what you're grateful for can help improve your mood.

TAKE CARE OF YOUR PHYSICAL HEALTH

Physical health has a profound impact on mental well-being. Regular exercise can help boost your mood and reduce feelings of anxiety and depression. It doesn't have to be anything intense, a simple walk or a few stretches can make a world of difference. In addition to exercise, make sure you're getting enough sleep and eating a balanced diet. These steps will ensure your body is well-equipped to handle emotional distress.

Being insecure is a choice.

It's totally your choice to give these people enough power on yourself to the point of low esteem and confidence.

miscellaneous study tips

do all readings, even the ones that are 'suggested' but not required. they were suggested for a reason.

get to class early. getting to class early gives you time to be prepared and ready to study. review your notes from the day before, lay out all your supplies, ask the teacher any lingering questions about the material.

your feet feel cold? put on socks. you feel thirsty? fill up your waterbottle and leave it beside you. make yourself comfortable whilst you are studying, or you will hate it.

if you can't find the motivation to get to work on something, force yourself to pick it up for just two minutes. you're very likely to continue.

Be grateful.

Be Grateful.
Be Grateful.
Be Grateful.
Be Grateful.

- Why?

Normally being grateful makes us and the universe (or God, whatever you believe) happier.

For example: you give a gift to a person, if they receive it gratefully, you will want to give them more gifts. The same thing happens with the universe, if you are grateful, you will be rewarded.

- How?

We all know that it is difficult to be grateful if we are going through a bad time, we must know that something much better always happens from something bad.

Here I will tell you how to do actions of gratitude:

Express gratitude: Taking the time to say "thank you" to the people in our lives and to the universe itself, you can make it a day or night routine, accompanied with meditation if necessary.

Reflect: Take a few minutes at the end of the day to reflect on the positive things that have happened.

Acts of kindness: Performing acts of kindness and help toward others can also foster a sense of gratitude.

Be Grateful.

Kind reminder that a degree will not get up one day and leave you, cheat on you, cut your funds, disrespect you or assault you. A degree will be worth a thousand sleepless nights and rivers of tears, because in the end it does matter more than anything else. A degree will make you an independent and undefeated woman, so stop belittling the importance of education nowadays. Every woman who studies is a woman who is ensuring a greater future for all women.

Unpopular opinion, but the moment I stopped listening to videos from self improvement channels like TheWizardLiz or Simonesquared is the moment I started improving.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with them, as I find some of their advices truly helpful, but consuming their media equals to trying to search to further “how to do x, y, z”, when in reality you are once again stopping yourself from doing better (or something at all).

I am a leaver. I am a blocker. I will not stick around after disrespect. I will cut you off and you will be informed about that. I will remove myself the moment I see that a friendship or relationship makes me suffer. I will exit the situation at the first given opportunity. And I always do.

Babe, you don’t have to start at 5 AM after Pilates, at 8.30 after a matcha, or at 10.30 after the gym.

You can start at 7.16 at home, at 15,34 after a long nap, at 19.46 after an afternoon of doom scrolling, at 9.21 before a boring lecture in an ugly building and so on. The only thing that matters is that you start.

If I may say, there is a exceptionally thin line between being unbothered and focused on yourself and being so out of touch with reality to a point even a legitimate critic that is not aligned with the persona you manufactured is seen as out of pocket.

In circumstances similar to the latter, please consider waking the fuck up.

This morning, my therapist shared this really useful hack and I feel like it could be useful to share: it is the pie chart method.

Essentially, it is a great tool to identify the behaviours, situations and events that caused a certain effect, in order for you to truly understand what really happened.

You simply draw a circle, identify the circumstances that caused the outcome and give each situation a percentage of its influence on the outcome.

For example: you bake a cake but it turns out horribly. It could be that 45% of the fault could be given to the oven that has malfunctioned, 30% to the wrongly calculated measurements of the ingredients, and 25% of your inexperience baking a cake. In the end, you will realise that it may not be your fault, and therefore you should stop being so angry at yourself.

Disclaimer: sometimes the fault could be given to you. This is a useful method for those of you who may constantly be harsh to yourselves.

Academic advices from a (non american) law student.

Premise: I feel the urge to underline the fact that I am not American nor attend any university in America due to the fact that most tips and tricks I found, coming from Americans, were scarce in terms of concrete application. If you found them to be useful, then I am more than glad. All I wish to do is to share different experiences and approaches to the university world that are maybe differing from the usual content.

I. “Time restricted” spaced repetition: the great majority of the subject in my curriculum are quite complex and portray a large number of complex topics, Latin terms, and regulations that are specific. What I suggest here is to write down in a fun colour (to me it is red) the words, terms, names and phrases that are difficult for you to remember. We are not born all knowing, and some terms can be, at first glance, peculiar or unusual. That is completely normal. Therefore, write down anything that you may struggle to remember and every day, you do your best to recall those specific terms, and over the span of even two days you will most likely incorporate even the most difficult words.

II. Repeat out loud: in my university, we do not have written exams. Therefore, practicing your speech for the exam is fundamental for us. However, even if your exams are not oral, explaining out loud subjects helps you remember them better (even if you give a look to your notes from time to time). Do this from day one of preparation. My favourite way of doing so is to repeat everything when outside, while on a walk or at a cafe.

III. Mental connections: chances are, some topics will be repeated in different ways in the same subject. For instance, the concept of inter-subjective laws was discussed three times in this one course, and each time a different aspect was discussed. What I am suggesting is that, when a particular topic or word comes up often, you force yourself to do two things: first, you do a repetition exercise in which you repeat where and when was that topic already mentioned, and second, you differentiate between the two. Why are they different, how are they different and in what ways they are similar.

IV. During the lectures: our professors do not record lectures, nor do they use any platform to “stream” them. If it is possible for you, attend the lectures! Take careful notes and correct them right away, after the lectures has finished! Ask those questions, no matter how “silly” they may be! The professor is right there for you, so you might as well use the opportunity to enrich your knowledge.

V. The notes: print them. Not only will your eyes thank you, but I find studying from paper more effective and it is easier to focus. Call me a grandma, but that is the truth. And if correcting some parts is the reason you prefer digital, try to simply cover the parts tg at you wish to rewrite eight plain paper and write the correction on it. This way the topic will be easier to be remembered.

VI. Audiobook: this may sound unusual, but listening to your notes can be quite beneficial. Due to me being a student, I have free access to the Microsoft package: world has this “read aloud” feature, and I play the audio during the night. The subconscious mind is much more powerful than what you may think of it.

VII. Grades: obviously we all aim for the greatest grades, but often the way we are graded may be out of your control. Sometimes you may get sick right before the exam, sometimes the examiner may be irritated and got up already upset with the world, sometimes we could have given better performances. It happens, and it will inevitably make you feel awful and out of place: please, remember to be kind and gentle with yourself. It will be better the next time, but in that moment remember that you are never alone. If you do not wish to talk it out with someone, ask ChatGPT. It really gives comfort and great advices in moments of frustration and disappointment. Do not ruin your life for a temporary moment.
