YOU DON’T GET IT
Kirk and Spock will go to hell and back for each other no matter what. They sacrifice so much for each other because they are filled with love for each other. Kirk literally gave up his career, starship, and all else because the needs of Spock outweighed the needs of anyone else. The plan wasn’t to save him, IT WAS TO GIVE SPOCK A PROPER FUNERAL. and Spock was literally told that he couldn’t complete Kolinahr (the ritual to rid all of his emotions) because he was still LONGING and they told him to go and sort it out, SO HE WENT BACK TO KIRK.
BECAUSE FOR THEM, ALL ROADS LEAD TO EACH OTHER.

There are at least three different versions of Star Trek TMP. Many of the differences are small and negligible. But the Original Release is missing this key scene that is found in the Director's Cut and the Remastered Director's Cut. If you haven't already seen it, you need to.
