megumi was always the type to never talk about his personal life. when the professor paired him with you for a class project, he didnt think anything off it. however, when he said “were partners” to you, he wouldnt have expected this.

you misunderstood.

thats not all.

when megumi said “partners” you thought he had meant something more, something romantic. it didnt help that he had been acting more relaxed around you, so you had thought you just missed the memo. mainly because megumi would never talk to you about his feeling. you started being more affectionate by calling him “baby” or “babe” in conversation, lesning on him more in study sessions, you remember his coffee order—not that its hard to forget. a black coffee.

megumi was confused but didnt want to make it awkward, so he kept his thoughts to himself. after all, you were just being friendly, right?

you and nobara went to the cafe near campus after classes one day, talking about everything. until you said, “me and megs are dating you know,”

nobara didnt miss a beat. just smiled and nodded, taking a sip of her overpriced latte. “oh, nice. didnt know you two were official now.”

“yeah, we didnt want to make a big deal out of it.” you replied. in reality, you didnt know, and megumi doesnt make a big deal out of anything.

nobara, remembering all the times you were lovey dovey with megumi in front of her, didnt question you at all, she was happy to accept it. you and megumi were dating.

later that week, nobara couldnt resist but bringing it up to megumi. she strolled up to his usual table in the student lounge, where he was on his phone like always.

“so, wanna go on a double date now?”

megumi looked up, confused. “i dont want to third wheel with you and maki.”

“you wouldnt be third wheeling anymore though, right?”

“wait—what?”

“yeah, yn already told me, you dont have to hide it.”

“what did she say?” megumi asked.

“that… you two are dating? she said you had been dating for a while?”

“no, thats not-“ he was cut off by nobara.

“listen. just say you dont wanna go, you dont have to hide your relationship from me yaknow? like i said, yn told me. talk to yn about if you dont feel comfortable about going, if not… then be at *random sushi place* by 8!”

nobara walks off, not being interested into talking with megumi anymore.

megumi didn’t even know how to process it all. he had no idea how to clear up the misunderstanding, and now nobara was convinced that you two were dating. he just hoped you weren’t too serious about it.

megumi just stared at the spot where nobara had stood, feeling a heavy sigh leave his chest. since nobara seemed so confident about it all, maybe they were and he just missed the signs?

megumi got ready for the double date group hang out.

it was 7:00 pm. nobara had insisted over text that he dress “decently” for this, so now he was standing here, debating whether his usual black hoodie was too casual.

he didn’t even know why he was putting so much thought into this. it was just nobara, maki, and—

his eyes flicked to his phone. you had texted him earlier, something short and sweet—although anything from you is sweet.

are you gonna come megs???

it shouldnt have made his stomach flip, but it did.

he sighed, ruffling his hair.

yea sure

“this is just a normal hangout,” “just dinner.” he thought to himself.

still, he switched the hoodie for a plain black sweater, something a little neater.

when megumi arrived at the restaurant, nobara and maki were already seated. you were beside nobara, chatting happily, completely at ease.

when you spotted him, your eyes lit up.

“megu! you made it” you said, scooting over slightly, making space for him next to you.

megumi hesitated before sitting down. something about the way you said his name made his face warm, its obviously just the temperature in the restaurant though.

(its not.)

nobara smiled. “look at him, actually on time.”

“barely,” maki added, sipping her sake.

megumi rolled his eyes but didnt argue.

he glanced at you, noting how close you were sitting. maybe it was just his imagination, but you seemed comfortable. very comfortable.

“so,” nobara started, resting her chin on her hand, “hows dating life treating you two?”

“its great!” you said before megumi could speak, smiling at them before turning to megumi, eyes full of warmth. “right, megs?”

megumi mumbled an agreement before trying to hide his red face in his hand.

nobara nodded approvingly. “figured. you guys always looked like a couple anyway.”

maki smirked. “yeah, megumis the quiet type, but we all knew you would end up together.”

he looked between them, waiting for some sign that this was a joke, but they were all so casual about it.

they actually think you two were dating.

he was going to ask you “are we actually dating?”

but then you reached for his hand under the table, lacing your fingers through his without hesitation.

his heart nearly stopped.

“hes just shy,” you said, squeezing his hand gently.

nobara grinned. “yeah, yeah. hes lucky youre patient.”

everyones entree arrived swiftly after that.

you squeezed his hand again, looking up at him like he was the best thing in the world, something in him settled.

yeah. you were his partner. you had been all along.

he just hadnt noticed.

i wrote most of this in class then wrote the other half like 9 hours later… so it might not make any sense lolol

megumi was tired.

a long day of exercising curses, all he wanted in this moment was to collapse into bed and pull yn into his arms. no barking or whining, just wuiet.

but apparently that was too much to ask for.

because the moment he wrapped his arm around yns waist, the divine dog growled.

not a soft whine like when megumi didnt bring back treats, a warning growl.

megumis fingers barely touched yns hip again before the growl got louder. his brain took a second to process it before his face turned into a scowl.

he glanced down at the divine dog, who was currently trying to wedge itself between him and yn. its head pressed against yns stomach.

yn, meanwhile,. was sleeply giggling, her face buried against megumis chest.

megumi sighed. “did you just growl at me, kuro?”

the dog did not blink or waver.

it stood its ground, its eyes sharp like megumi was an intruder in his own dorm.

yn lifted her head slightly, peekijg up at him. “theyre just protective, megs.”

protective, against megumi. yns boyfriend. their summoner.

megumis eyes narrowed. “shes literally my girlfriend”

the dog did not care. if anything, it pushed itself closer to yn, pressing its entire weight into them as if shielding her from megumi.

“you cant be serious.”

yn reached down and scratched behind its ear. “its cute.”

“no, its not.”

it was annoying, he could barely touch his own girlfriend without his own technique getting in the way.

megumi stared down the dog with the most unimpressed look imaginable. which was reflected on the dog. “i summon you, you exist because of me. you should be on my side.”

the dog blinked. then had the audacity to turn its head away.

because megumi wasnt worth looking at.

megumi exhaled sharply. “fine”

yn, still giggling, tilted her head. “are you pouting, megs?”

“no.”

megumi absolutely was pouting.

and it only got worse when kuro curled against yns stomach, blocking megumi from touching her.

yn ran her fingers through kuros fur. “guess you have to work for their trust, too.”

“i dont need their trust, i need my girlfriend back.”

kuro didnt move.

megumi sighed heavily, sinking deeper into the mattress. he should have desummoned the shikigami already, but he was too tired. instead he settled for grumbling under his breath.

reader reached out, gently running her fingers through megumis hair, scratching at the scalp. the tension in his shoulders giving away.

megumis eyelids drooped, huffing out a breath. “this is so unfair.”

“youre cute when your grumpy, megs”

megumi grumbled something unintelligible before wrapping an arm around her back—and the dog growled again.

“oh my fucking gosh.”

in all honestly, yn was afraid of fushiguro. the first time she saw him was when she was hiding from student council, she turned the corner to find him on a pile of bodies. not the most welcoming sight.

their relationship remained like that. yn was afraid of fushiguro, fushiguro probably didnt know that she existed. sure he saw her in the hallways from time to time. but those prolonged gazes glances didnt compare to the amount of times yn nearly tripped trying to silently run away.

when she entered high school she assumed that fushiguro would stop, and for the most part, he did. sure he was aggravated by a couple of students every now and then, but they had it coming honestly.

fushiguro attended every class and was on every a honor roll. he got nearly every girls attention, yn was not an exception. he was the standard of beauty, who could blame her.

although, out of all the girls in the school, yn was just average. if in fushiguros standards, probably below average. so she swallowed her feelings, if someone were to ask her who she liked. “no one.” she would say avoiding their gaze.

valentines was coming up soon, yn wonders if she would get any chocolates. hopefully romantic chocolates. maybe a boy in her class. maybe megumi fushiguro

eventually valentines rolls around and not a single chocolate left in her desk. thats fine, she wasnt betting on getting any anyways.

while eating lunch she heard girls talking about fushiguro possibly having chocolates.

‘wow. what a lucky girl.’ she thinks to herself.

nearly every girl (and boy) in the school was trying to figure out who it was for. he refused to say for his own reasons.

the last bell rings and school is dismissed for the day. yn walks home in the cold weather wishing she would’ve worn stockings for brought another jacket.

she hears speed walking behind her but doesnt bother to look back, she knows that whoevers behind her definitely isnt trying to interact with her.

yn feels a tap on her shoulder and shivers run down her back, their hands were cold. she turns around to find fushiguro, holding a small bag of chocolates.

“i got these for you for helping me.”

“help you with what?”

he shoves the bag further in your hands, looking to the side blushing.

“take them.”

fushiguro sprints off without looking back. “hey wait what was that for!” yn shouts.

after that she started noticing fushiguros lingering stares glares, did she do something wrong?

she assumed that fushiguro messed up and gave it to the erong person, or it was just gratitude chocolate. although, yn has barely spoken to fushiguro let alone done him a favor. she wonders who he really wanted to give them to. maybe that popular girl in his class. what was her name again?

a couple weeks after that chocolate incident, in p.e she overheard fushiguro talking with his only friend. “do you really think shes not getting my hints?”

“i wouldnt get them either.” (ita)

“i thought they were obvious” (fushi)

you quietly walk faster on the track. pretending you cant see fushiguro blushing and that other kid pointing with his mouth covered.

after abiut 1 minute you hear someone sprinting behind you. you think nothing of the footsteps until they start slowing down once they get within a couple feet across from you.

fushiguro looks to the his right, where youre standing. you divert you eyes. he takes inching closer to you.

“do you get it” (fushi)

you look at him in confusion. “hm?”

“get it?” (fushi)

“get what?”

“do you like me?” (fushi)

Megumi’s pov yesterday 10pm

megumi is fast asleep when he hears a loud blast of pop music and yelling from down the hall. What are they so excited for at this time? He tries pulling his pillow over his ears, but the music is super loud something obnoxiously catchy, like, “I’m super shy, super shy…”followed by Yuji and Toge screaming the lyrics.

“What the fuck…” he mutters, finally throwing his blanket off and leaving his room.

He walks into the living room, finding Yuji and Toge eyes too glued to the screen to even notice him. “What the hell are you guys screaming for? It’s like 10pm. Don’t you have class tomorrow?” He mumbled, but they can barely hear him.

“Y/N’S MAKEUP IS SOOOO GOOD!” Yuji kicks his feet, followed by Toge’s just as equally excited, “No, ‘cause Riko ate that outfit!”

Megumi groans as Yuta pokes his head out of his own room. “Can you get them to shut up… please?” Megumi pleads and Yuta sighs. 

Then raises his voice to get their attention. “What are you guys even watching at this time? Could you at least turn it down?”

“The NewJeans performance I told you about!” Toge responds.

“Ohh, I forgot you told me about that” he walks over to the side of the couch to see the screen.

Megumi raises an eyebrow. The hell is NewJeans? He sighs, but as he turns to leave, Yuji tugs him onto the couch.

“Just sit down and watch, Megumi. A little watching can’t hurt!”

Megumi puts his head on his forehead annoyed as hell but he begrudgingly sits down, glancing at the screen, where a girl in the middle of the group seems to stand out. I mean why wouldn’t she if she’s in the middle she’s obviously important for something. Yuta leans over. “Wait, Toge, who’s who again?”

Toge points. “White top with a ponytail and bow is Y/N. Two pigtails in the cropped shirt is Riko, two buns and black shirt is Nobara, two pigtails with a normal shirt is Maki, and the girl with the sheer shirt I think she’s wearing a bun is Miwa.”

“Oh… okay.” Yuta finally sits down. Megumi watches the girl in the center. “So, the girl in the middle is Y/N?”

“Yup,” Yuji says, eyes glued to the screen.

They do look pretty cool, Megumi thinks, but before he can comment, the song ends. They bow, and he sighs with relief. “Alright, so they’re done now. Can you guys turn off the—”

“Nope!” Yuji yanks him back onto the couch. “They’ve got a second performance for OMG!”

Megumi groans, letting his head fall back against the cushions.

yn pov yesterday 10:10pm

A crowd of stylists and assistants bustled around her, hurrying her down the hallway toward a dressing room for a quick change. She had no idea where the rest of her group was, but that didn’t matter; what mattered was that the whole group had ten minutes tops to get into these over-the-top outfits and fix their makeup. 

No time to worry about anything else.

As soon as she got to the room, someone handed her part of her costume, and she slipped it on as fast as she could. An assistant crouched down to help with the tricky stuff—her boots, which were more like armor, and some wings they’d attached to her back. Honestly, though? She wasn’t even that stressed. This was just part of being an idol. She’d done crazier quick changes before.

Finally dressed, she was escorted backstage, where she spotted Riko waiting. Her friend’s eyes lit up, and Riko beamed at her. “You look amazing! The blonde braids looks so good on you.”

She squealed back, “No, brown hair on you is everything!” Riko didn’t get a chance to thank her before they saw Nobara, Maki, and Miwa approaching. The five of them all started talking at once, pointing out little details of each other’s outfits.

“We still have like three minutes left,” Miwa said, glancing around the stage. “And the set is so cute! We should take a picture.”

“But we have to do it quick! Cameras will go live any second,” Maki said, already positioning herself.

They scrambled onto the stage, posing as Riko took the picture. Just then, a loud voice from backstage called the countdown: “Ten, Nine, Eight…”

Hearing the countdown they rushed off the stage, barely managing to contain their laughter.
