“Now you have to take care of the kouhais”
The thought sent shivers down your spine. Now that they caught you and Daichi, you’ll have to take care of everyone. Your breathing finally calmed down, you knew about their lack of experience you you thought you could just let them use you and move to the other teammates. For that reason alone you didn’t prepare yourself for another orgasm, you could just lead them to their own and not have to be exhausted.
You crawled up to Kageyama first,, his wide eyes were focused on your lust-blown facial expression. Your face was flushed and your half lidded eyes stared down the bulge in his pants. Your hand reached up to palm him, a groan escaping his lips. Your fingers found their way to his waistband and pulled both his shorts and boxers down at the same time, his length finally released.
You shifted your weight to your knees, your mouth finding itself around the taller boy’s tip. You felt him stiffen as your tongue swirled on his tip, cleaning it from precum and coating it with your saliva instead. He bit his lip as he felt his face get red when you started to take him deeper and bob your head up and down.
You didn’t notice how envious Hinata looked when he saw how good Kageyama was feeling, the whimpers and breathy groans that came from him as you sucked him off. Hinata looked to Sugawara as he fidgeted around, his hard-on now feeling uncomfortable as he noticed how bad he needed to feel something too.
Sugawara gave him a smile and tilted his head to point at something. Hinata followed with his eyes and ended up looking at your pussy, still leaking with the load that Sugawara had busted in you before. He looked back a Sugawara with stars in his eye, asking if it was okay. The silver haired man just nodded back at him while Tsukishima scoffed at him needing permission.
He quickly undressed his bottom half but took his short off as well because it was getting in the way. He rubbed the tip along your stained folds and softly asked if he could put it in.
You let out a moan of approval, sending vibrations to Kageyama’s cock which was shaft deep in your mouth, making him instinctively gripped onto your hair. His fingers weaved themselves in your hair and slightly pushed your head down further as tears pricked your eyes.
Hinata slowly pushed in, the overwhelming heat of your tight cunt made him moan loudly. He picked up speed right away, going at full speed which made your hand that was cupping Kageyama’s balls, falter. Your eyes rolled to the back of your head when Hinata held your hips and pounded into you with full force.
Hinata’s thrusting had pushed you forward, Kageyama’s cock had reached your throat, tears fully streaming down your cheeks. You didn’t think Hinata would last this long but with his speed and surprising sex drive you were brought to an unexpected climax.
You moaned one after another, stimulating Kageyma’s cock as he felt himself get unraveled. You felt him cum down your throat, then he pulled out and you tasted his salty semen as you swallowed it with some dripping out of your mouth.
You landed on your hands and whimpered when Hinata relewased his load in you, he luckily stopped from overstimulating you right when you shook and came. You panted and felt him slip out of you, his and Sugawara’s mixed cum seeping out of you.
You heard snickering, “I can’t believe he made you cum.”

WC: 569 (kinda short I’m sorry I wasn’t able to finish last night and it’s a bit rushed)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“The vice captains should have a turn next, don’t you think?”
You panted from your high, looking to said vice captain. He wore a sly smirk, the other members stayed where they were as Sugawara pulled a pillow for him to sit on. He pat his lap, calling you to him.
You glanced at Daichi for permission and he gave you a small nod. You crawled over to Sugawara, straddling his lap as you did with Daichi minutes ago. Sugawara caressed your face as you unintentionally dripped all over his crotch. He gripped your hips and ground you onto him, “Aww, too bad Daichi didn’t fill this pretty pussy up”
You bit your lip, both aroused but slightly worried about how Daichi would react. You refused to look back at him but you felt Sugawara challenge his glare with his own smirk. He chuckled, “Don’t worry, Mr. Captain, she’s on birth control”
Daichi didn’t know how he got that information but then realized that you two were also close, you used to be neighbors until you moved a few neighborhoods away recently. He would see you take them when you hung out and now know that he had the pleasure to fill you up.
He ended the small argument with an ‘mhm’ and Sugawara’s eyes turned back to you. The look in his eyes had sent shivers down your spine and the feeling went straight to your core. You whimpered when he tapped you, motioning you to get up slightly so he could pull down his shorts enough.
You did so and he revealed his member. You weren’t able to see how it was before he pulled you down and you could only feel it. You couldn’t be that embarrassed anymore so you let out a loud moan as it filled you up just right.
“Aww, I love the sounds you make, baby” he cooed. You clenched around him as you began to bounce on his dick. Sugawara groaned as his head fell back. He let out a breathy chuckle, “Fuck, you feel so good”
You moaned at his words, they made you feel good and it encouraged you to go faster. You held onto his shoulders as he held onto your waist. He licked at your neck and nibbled on your sweet spot not deep enough to make a mark but you felt it enough to let out another sweet moan.
He bounced you on his dick and whispered encouraging praises into your ear. It had your head spinning as he made you feel so good. You reached your high with him, your moans had gotten high in pitch and your walls clenched around him.
He groaned, “Fuck, I’m close. You feel so good, clenching around just like that, Daichi should give you more, what you deserve”
Your head had fallen onto the crook of his neck as you released, he thrusted in you and helped you through your climax, chasing his own. You felt him release in you. You suddenly felt warm inside when he came, which was quite fair amount. “You like that, right? Feeling so good inside? I bet Daichi doesn’t let you have this”
You panted and he lifted you, helping you up to let him pull out. He put you back on his lap before patting your head and stroking your hair. He grinned, “Now you have to take care of the kouhais”
“Daichi, not here” You whimpered as her felt up under your skirt.
He gave your ass a squeeze, “C’mon, baby, doesn’t make you excited? The thought of them finding you liked this. You asked for it, they’re gonna see how needy you are”
He chuckled when he felt your wetness soak through your panties. The thought did make you horny, grinding on his bulge a little harder. He groaned, lifting you up slightly to free his length from his shorts. You heard the chatter from the bottom of the stairs hearing as they neared the club room.
“Daichi they’re coming” You said frantically, pushing yourself off. Much to your surprise his firm grip on your hips didn’t let go, instead pulled you down for his tip to enter you.
The sudden movement has cause you to groan, the stinging pain from his girth still had to be adjusted to most of the time. You were breathing heavily, mind hazy and just let him pull you down slowly.
You whimpered when the sound of a door opening made your eyes widen. You tried pushing yourself away again, that being way too late and the wandering eyes of the other teammates found you both.
You hid your face in the crook of his neck, your face burned in embarrassment as you tried not to get wetter. You were oddly aroused by this even if it was awkward. The silence was cut when Daichi smirked at them, causing Sugawara to speak up, “So, Daichi, what’cha got there, bud?”
He shifted you a bit, feeling the slick that accumulated while his teammates waited for a response, “’S just my beautiful girlfriend-”
“Why here?” A cold voice, Tsukishima, asked.
“You don’t want a look?” Daichi slyly said
Karasuno volleyball club was now beet red, they already have an idea of how your body was, they couldn’t deny that they checked you out when you visited your boyfriend for practice. Daichi watched as they gulped, not knowing how to respond.
“C’mon babe, show them what they wanna see” He said, giving Sugawara a look which he understood, locking the door.
You calmed down slightly, letting him lift you by the waist and turn you around. You sunk down on his member once again, letting out a small moan. You felt everyone’s eyes on you when he pulled your cardigan off. He unbuttoned your blouse when it sunk in you were going to be exposed to these other 9 men.
“Daichi-”
“Shh, shh” he put a finger up to your mouth, you quieting down, “It’s ‘Captain’ and you have to listen to me, baby” he said in a sickly sweet tome
“Now get yourself off, baby” he whispered, nibbling on your sweet spot. You moved a bit, before he caught your attention again, “Answer me”
“Y-Yes, Captain” You said loudly, you knew you didn’t want to me punished. He was in control now and when he was, you knew weren’t going to be let off easy, it would be humiliating in front of his friends.
You planted your palms on his thighs that were spreading yours. You bounced yourself on him allowing his dick to hit deep into you. You let out a moan, going faster, having your breasts bounce. Daichi got a hold of them and rolled your nipples between his index finger and thumb.
You squealed, bouncing faster, your fingers finding your clit and rubbing it in fast circles. Everyone was watching you intently, some palming themselves. You caught a glimpse of them, getting wetter at the thought of people watching you, them getting aroused themselves.
You felt a weird pleasure bubble up in you when you made eye contact with some of them. Tsukishima’s eyes were judgmental, looking at you and it made you feel dirty in the hottest way possible. Hinata was blushing, looking at you curiously, a twinge of attraction in his eyes. Sugawara licked his lips, he looked hungry for you, his best friend’s hot girlfriend who was fucking Daichi in front of him.
After that you were done. You peaked at your climax and felt yourself gushing around your boyfriend. You clenched around him, making him throw his heaad back and groan, reaching his own high. You bit your lip until it bruised, you knew you would leave a wound. White hot pleasure reached you and you finally finished, Daichi soon after you, quickly pulling out and releasing onto your back.
“Fuck, you’re so hot, baby, so tight. You never came like that before, showing this sexy body of yours felt good didn’t it?”
He mumbled dirty things into your ear as he helped you through your orgasm. He rubbed your clit lazily as you panted, breathing slowing down. When you finally got to normal, you looked back at the people watching you, one approaching you steadily.
“The vice captains should have a turn next, don’t you think?”
Tanaka x reader, asahi x sister!reader
The next few days were painful, both for you and tanaka. Either you would be absent from school because you would cry so much you would make yourself sick or you would avoid Tanaka at all costs. Each time you would ignore him it would sent a quick sharp pain through your soulmate mark. On the 5th day Tanaka had had enough. It pained him to see the bags under your eyes from the lack of sleep and hurt him that you were ignoring him. He decided to ask asahi about what he meant that day. At lunch he pulled asahi to the side. “What did you mean by you’ve done enough?” He asked. Asahi sighed at his friend then started “ look man we’re friends, good friends but you broke my sisters heart. She won’t tell me much about what happened that day when she went to go confess her feelings to you, but the one thing she keeps telling me is she’ll never be kiyoko-san.” It dawned on him that you hadn’t heard the whole thing. “What no, noya’s dumb and said that because I couldn’t put into words how I feel about your sister. She must not have heard everything. I really wanna make it up to your sister and confess to her. I really like her man.” Asahi trusted that what Tanaka said was true. “Okay, I will help you, but if you ever hurt my sister again I won’t hesitate to put you 6 feet under.” He said.
Ove the next 2 days they had come up with a plan. The boys were even in on it. Asahi had said he needed you to bring his shoes to the gym because he had forgot them at home. You were weary about going to the gym because you didn’t want there to be a chance of running into Tanaka. At lunch you peeked in but you didn’t see Tanaka or Asahi. “Hi y/n, what’re you doing here” Daichi asked with a soft smile. “ I’m here to give azu his sneakers. You don’t know where he is by any chance do you?” You asked. “Oh he’s in the equipment room” he said pointing towards the room. You nodded and thanked him while walking towards the room. When you got into the room it was dark and you couldn’t really see anything in there. “Nii-chan” you called out while you walked into the room. Suddenly the doors closed and locked behind you while the lights flipped on. Standing there was Tanaka with a red rose. You panicked with tears in your eyes banging on the door. “Please guys let me out this isn’t funny.” You said. “Just hear him out y/n it’s ok I trust him” asahi said trying to calm you down a bit. You turned to Tanaka then but didn’t look him in the eyes. You looked down at your shoes while saying quietly with tears rolling down your face “ if this is your way of letting me down easy it’s really messed up. By now you can probably tell but I like you, a lot ryu. It hurts every time I see you, hear your voice, even just think of you, so please if this is just your way of calling me here to tell me you like kiyoko-san I get it.” “It’s not like that” he said panicing walking forward a bit. “ that day you heard nishinoya talk about kiyoko-san, we were actually talking about why I like you. I was so scared you wouldn’t like me that I couldn’t think of the right words to express how I feel about you. The part you didn’t hear was the words I finally said to express how much I like you. You’re funny, kind, sweet, caring and so smart. Not to mention you’re so so beautiful” he said with so much enthusiasm. “But kiyo-“ “ yes kiyoko-san maybe be pretty, but she’s not my soulmate” he said whispering the end part. He tilted your head to look at him “ I love you y/n” he said leaning in to kiss you. It was a short but sweet kiss that made you feel fireworks. You pulled away hugging him so tight feeling so much relief from the pain you were feeling all week. “I love you too” you said confidently. As the doors opened back up he said “ oh yea since the last rose got destroyed I got you one this time” he said handing you the rose and intertwining his fingers in yours with the other hand. You blushed taking the flower with a smile. Asahi smiles seeing that things went well for his little sister. Nishinoya was there bouncing off the walls congratulating his best friend because he was the first one out of them to get a girl.
Weeks ago you would’ve thought coming to karasuno high to be with your brother was somewhat of a bad thing, but of course things are not always as they seem.
Not Always As It Seems; soulmate AU
Tanaka x reader, Asahi x sister! Reader
This is my first writing so I hope it’s ok, if people like it I might write a part 2
It was your first year going to Karasuno high school. It was hard making friends when all your friends from last year were at another school. You wanted to stay, but it was your brother’s last year before going to college so you changed schools to be closer to him. Although you were scared you felt this was a good opportunity to work on your social skills. You were a lot like your brother; less intimidating but very shy. Maybe you would even meet the person who had the matching mark that was on the outside of your wrist.
After school one day you decided to ask Asahi if you could stay and watch so that you two could walk home together later. You walked into the gym and suddenly all eyes were on you. “Hot girl!” Noya yelled startling you a bit. “Don’t scare her” Tanaka said to his friend while drooling over you. You tried to ignore both of them by walking closer to Asahi. “Nii-Chan can I stay so we can walk home later” you asked. “Of course you can, just make sure you do your homework too” he said sweetly. He had always been the overprotective type, even tho he was only a year older than you. You nodded and sat down on the side opening up your math text book. “I didn’t know asahi had a sister” Hinata said shocked. “Or that she was so pretty” Tanaka said mesmerized. “Good to see you again y/n” Daichi said with a smile. “Everyone back to work and leave y/n alone” he continued. Practice went on without a hitch. By the end of it you had finished your homework and watched your older brother and his friends in action while they played a practice game. You couldn’t help but be attracted to the loud, outgoing spiker.
When practice ended and Asahi was gone packing things up, Noya and Tanaka came and introduced themselves to you. Although you blushed the whole time they asked for your number wanting to be friends. You nodded and put your number in their phones. Asahi grabbed your stuff and his and came up behind you. “Ready to go” he asked. You nodded and waved goodbye as all the Boys said goodbye to you
That was the start of a friendship not only with them but Hinata, Suga and Yamaguchi. You had grown to have a crush on Tanaka as Noya, him and you were in the same grade and you helped them a lot with the homework so they wouldn’t fail their classes. What you didn’t know was Tanaka felt the same way. A few months into you hanging around the boys at practice you saw Ryu take off his shirt. you blushed to no end when you saw it; on his left shoulder blade the same mark you had on your wrist. That night you talked to Asahi. “Nii-chan he’s my soulmate.” You said quietly. “What do I do?” “You should tell him” Asahi said. “I see the way you look at him and the way he looks at you” he said with a little smile. “Just be yourself and if he hurts you I’ll show everyone the rumors can be true”. For some reason that boosted your confidence so the next day you decided after school you would tell him. You decided that even tho he might not like it you would give him a rose since you were a hopeless romantic. Your timing however might have been off as you walked to his last class. He was sitting in class with Noya and Ennoshita unbeknownst to you talking about his crush on you. “Why do you like her?” Ennoshita asked. Ennoshita has nothing against you but hearing the way he talked about you made you feel that way. (He was just shocked Tanaka would like someone so shy) “ she’s shy and not really your type he continued” he said as you started to turn the corner with the rose in your hand. You were now within earshot of them low key listening to their conversation. Tanaka didn’t say anything as he was thinking of the right words. You were sweet, kind, smart and he thought you were so beautiful. Noya continued saying “it’s ok, kiyoko-San will like one of us one day so you don’t need to worry”. Hearing that dropped all the confidence you had. You turned around, tears in your eyes, before you could hear Tanaka confess his feelings about you. Rose petals dropped as you walked fast to the gym to find your brother. When you got there you hugged your brother tight, legs giving out. He sat down holding you in his arms asking what was wrong. You looked up at him and said quietly “he doesn’t like me” then went back to crying in his chest. Tanaka walked in a few moments later confused by the rose petals he saw on his way there. What he saw was heartbreaking. There you were in Azumane’s arms sobbing, rose dropped behind him. And for the first time he saw the mark that matched his own. Your sleeve bunched up arm over your big brothers shoulder. Tanaka walked over to you quickly wanting to help. “Are you ok y/n, what’s wrong.” He asked worriedly. Asahi looked at him with a hint of anger saying “haven’t you done enough” holding you closer. Tanaka soulmark ached as he stared at you confused.
To be continued maybe, I’m sorry this sucks so much it was just a thought I had in my head.
Being in the snow with Sugawara brightens the day to a warmth in your body. Walking around the landscapes, taking picture of it and suga, playing in the snow with snowballs and doing angels in the snow. It brings your inner kid to have the time it needs. Suga's red cheeks come up in the snowy white aroundings. It's such a beautiful day and he makes the winter to your favorite season.
Futakuchi actually watches quiz-shows. It's always fun seeing him getting annoyed at the answers of the candidates if it's wrong. It's not like his answers are always right, but it's just amusing to see him as he mumbles his thinking out loud.
COMPARING HAND SIZES — ft. osamu miya, atsumu miya, akaashi keiji, iwaizumi hajime
warnings — reader/you is implied to be shorter because of hand size difference, also let names (baby & love)
⨳OSAMU was confused as to why you wanted to compare hand sizes. you’ve held hands a million times so you both knew your hands were smaller. “do you just wanna hold my hand?” he asked with a skeptical look across his face. “maybe, maybe not.” you shrugged with a cheeky smile. letting out a sigh the man held up one of his hands and you pressed yours against it immediately. “would’ve never have guess your hands were bigger,” you joke before he interlocks your fingers. “yeah i bet,” osamu says sarcastically, rolling his eyes before leaning in and planting a quick kiss to your lips.
⨳ATSUMU would’ve suggested it not you. he thinks he’s so slick about it too. “baby let me see how different our hand sizes are,” he sort of asks before grabbing your hand and putting it right on his. “tsumu are you being serious right now?” you scoff when you feel him pull your hand to his. “you’ve got small hands,” he notes out loud as if you weren’t already aware. “good observation tsumu.” you roll your eyes pulling your hand away. “you’re no fun,” he pouts from beside you. without saying anything you grab his closest hand and interlock your fingers. “look we can hold hands,” you say holding up your hands. atsumu smiles at your hands and leans in to kiss your cheek.
⨳AKAASHI knew you were up to something when you asked for his hand. “why?” he asked cautiously as he held out his hand to you. “comparing hand size,” you responded while putting your palms on his. “wait, lowkey we have the same hand size.” you giggle at the sight. akaashi furrowed his eyebrows and blinked at your hands. two different sizes—completely different. “you think you’re funny.” he told you as he got a firm grip on your hand and puked you close to him. “completely different hand sizes love,” akaashi added before kissing the top of your forehead. “nice try though”
⨳IWAIZUMI always feeds into your antics and lets you do whatever. he can tolerate your nonsense because it’s second nature to him. “why are we comparing hand sizes like we’re in junior high?” he asked while holding his hand up to you. “i need an excuse to hold your hand.” you admit while placing your pal on his proudly. the brunette’s eyebrows are drawn together in confusion for a moment. “you don’t need an excuse,” he tells you and you smile. “i know i know, let me have fun for once,” you dismiss before interlocking your fingers with his. “fine,” he shakes his head lightly before kissing the top of your head.
reblogs are appreciated
Omg I just saw a tiktok and it was the cutest thing ever! Okay so this girl goes up to her fiancé after his game (the like meet n greet or whatever) and acts like his fangirl! Could I get something like that for Atsumu please? (You don’t have to but thank you if you do <33333)
after atsumu signed yet another one of his fan's merchandise of him, he took in a deep breath and tried to brace himself for another round of smiling nonstop and acting all charming, like how his fans think of him as. it does get suffocating after a while of this, all he can imagine of to keep himself sane and from teetering at his wits' end is by dreaming of coming home in a few hours, laying down on your lap, and being treated to a night long full of loving between you two.
as he's stuck day dreaming about you, the next person in line comes up; with her excusing herself to him to catch his attention as he sat there, in a bit of a daze, imaging how soft your lap would be and how much he just wants to get this over with already so he can smother you with his affection.
he soon snaps out of his gaze when she waves her hand in front of his face a little, catching his attention. he quite literally snaps out of it, his back jolting in surprise as he gains sobriety once more and realizes just where he is and what he was doing before dreaming of you and your embrace. he chuckles and rubs the back of his head, an embarrassed smile on his face as he apologizes for not noticing her earlier.
he doesn't look at her face yet, but he politely takes the jersey she handed to him to sign, but for some reason, the feel of the jersey was... familiar. the smile fades from his lips as he looks over the clothing she handed him, seeing the number on the jersey was the same as his, but on the back, the words, "mrs. miya" were printed on them. it was then that atsumu realized... you came to his signing, you came to his meet and greet today.
all his wishes came true much earlier than he thought, and when atsumu looked up, his suspicions were confirmed. "um... are you okay, mr. miya?" you ask him with a shy, yet awfully knowing, smile; making atsumu do a double take and pause for a minute to collect his thoughts. he nodded and gave you a beaming smile. "yep! ...never been better." he muttered as he signed your jersey, taking all his time to let this moment with the woman he'd spend the rest of his life with in a few months linger for just a split second longer.
when you thank him and take the jersey back from him, he sneakily wraps his calloused hands around your wrist, gently pulling you close to him as he whispers in your ear, "thanks for saving my ass and sanity, babe. i love ya." and when he relinquished his grip on your wrists, leaving you flustered and unable to return his 'i love you', he looked to you from the side as you were about to leave and wait for him somewhere in the building, sending you a genuine smile of gratitude, and a wink your way. he couldn't wait to officially make you his mrs. miya in the future... you gave him enough energy and excitement to last 50 more of these meet and greets for one whole sitting!
Hello! I was wondering if you could do Atsumu w/ a s/o who tells their friends they play volleyball and their friends just start laughing and making jokes like “Oh no no no, you’d be benched because you’re too short” 🥲
it’s alright if not, I think I’ve only sent you angstier requests (sorry 😔) so it’s fine if you don’t want to do this. Have a good day/night regardless <333
"hey, shrimpy... what's all that they're gigglin' an' laughin' 'bout, hmm?" atsumu asks you in a whisper as you hand him the rogue volleyball that flew all the way to the back of the court. you felt too embarrassed to explain to your boyfriend just why exactly your friends were laughing at you; or more like, you were terrified of what atsumu might do to them, regardless if they just meant what they said as jokes or banter that stung you somehow.
you shook your head silently, insisting you didn't know or that it was something unfunny, but before you could walk away, atsumu gripped your wrist and walked up to you. "baby... you don't have to lie. i think... something's up between you and 'em, hmm? am i right or right?" he asked you with a slight smirk curving up on his lips.
you hesitate to tell him for a moment, but you shake your head once more in response, prompting the blonde to quit smirking, and look at you with such a soft expression on his face. he had known that from the very beginning, a lot of people looked down on you for your stature. despite being as talented as any tall volleyball player out there, you were never given a proper chance to prove your worth because of how outlandish the idea of a short person like you being able to overcome the hurdles that stood behind that net.
his hand slid down to your fingers, then to your palm, and the back of your hand. he held your hand in his, intertwining his fingers with yours, and rubbing the back of your hand in a soothing manner with the pad of his thumb. "hey... don't listen to what they say." he blurted out of the blue, making you turn around to face him with glassy eyes that threatened to spill out tears any moment now. he smiled at you sweetly and wiped the tears from your eyes gently with his other hand after setting the ball down.
"you are so talented, and if they can't see your worth past for what you're lacking... then they're all full of bullshit." he chuckles out from under his breath, shaking his head lightly at how utterly wrong your friends are for laughing at you for your small size, and not supporting you for how great you are beyond how you may seem. "even if they're joking, they should support you a great deal... but if not them, i could always do it for you, my cutie; my amazing, strong and powerful cutie." he murmurs into your ear after leaning closer to you, kissing your ear and wrapping his muscular arms around you and holding you tightly.
"and besides... such a cute height like this really makes me feel so fond of you. look how comfy i am with resting my chin on your pretty little head, hmm?" he teases as you knit your brows together in embarrassment and frustration. looks like your cocky bastard of a boyfriend can say meaningful, worthwhile things sometimes... and make you feel good about yourself, feel supported, for who you are no matter what you were born with.
Summary: At the Shiratorizawa vs Karasuno game, it breaks your heart to see Sugawara get so excited by Kiyoko’s touch. After a long day of the silent treatment, your boyfriend must show you just how much more you affect him than any other girl around.
A/N: Honestly, this ended up better than I thought. Sorry it took me a while, and I’m not gonna lie, the other requests are probably gonna take just as long. My life is just a little sucky right now, so please have some patience. Still, hope you like it!
Sugawara and Kiyoko were close-- they were friends, after all. But seeing him blush after she held his hands during a volleyball game was too much.
The sight of it made your stomach churn. His face was completely red as he jerked his hands away with a shout before bobbing and weaving the others.
“It’s mine! Get your own!”
You could hear him from all the way in the stands, and there was no way the cameras hadn’t caught some of it.
The game against Shiratorizawa was possibly your boyfriend’s last game ever, and he had begged and begged you to come and watch. Of course, you had agreed without much coaxing, but now, all you wanted to do was go home.
Deep in your chest, your heart twinged. When was the last time Sugwara had ever been so aggressive over your touch like that? You couldn’t remember. Part of you felt alienated the instant it happened.
They’re just friends.
Kiyoko’s not the kind of girl to do that.
Koushi would never hurt me like that.
I’m not jealous. I’m not jealous. I’m not…
Was there really a point in lying to yourself? No, the answer is no.
The bitter taste of betrayal slapped you in the face the moment Sugawara had fought so hard to hide Kiyoko’s contact from another’s touch. Maybe your touch just wasn’t as precious to him.
Maybe… maybe Sugawara actually wanted Kiyoko. It wouldn’t be the first time someone had found her more attractive over you. The girl could wear shoes made of dog dookie and boys would still kiss the floor beneath her feet.
But your sweet, loyal boyfriend was the last person you ever expected to jump on that bandwagon when he was in a relationship.
It hurt. Plain and simple. Your heart clenched and your stomach tightened and all you wanted was space, space, space.
So when Sugawara jogged onto the court for the fifth and final set of what could’ve been his last game, he glanced into the stands with an excited grin to see… no one.
“Where’s YN?”
~~~
The next day at school was hard, but ignoring Sugawara was even harder. Though he wasn’t in your class as you were only a second year, it seemed like he was everywhere, all at once.
Every corner you turned, he was there. Each class you passed, he was inside, asking a question you already knew the answer to.
I’m right here, I just don’t want you to see me.
A majority of it was just pure pettiness, but the last little inkling was fear. After avoiding him for so long, you still weren’t sure you could keep it together once he finally caught up to you.
Last night, your phone was blown up with texts, every one of them inquisitive.
“Did you hear we won our game?”
“Where did you go?”
“Are you gonna answer me?”
“Did something happen?”
“Are you okay?”
You didn’t answer a single one of them, instead choosing the age-old tradition of a silent treatment.
Lunch was the hardest. You always ate with Sugawara out in the courtyard under your favorite tree. Your back would rest against his chest and you would feed him part of your lunch, him always returning the favor.
So you couldn’t help but feel a little guilty while you nibbled on a chip, watching from your desk in a classroom on the second level of the school as Sugawara bolted out into the courtyard. His gray head of hair hung low as he made his way back inside the second he noticed you weren’t there. He shoved his hands into his pockets and lowered his gaze, observing his shoes as he scuffed them with every step.
You weren’t an evil bitch-- why would seeing him like that not hurt you? It was just… you couldn’t forget his look of pure awe as Kiyoko touched him, like he had just been blessed by a goddess.
You knew you were nothing special. No matter how many times Sugawara told you that was wrong, you just knew it. But a part of you still wanted to believe that Sugawara had meant what he said all those times.
~~~
“YN, open up!”
A fist pounded on your door with hefty conviction. It hadn’t backed down for the past twenty minutes, and honestly, it seemed like it never would.
“I know you’re home, YN! Please, just answer the door!”
With parents still at work, you were all alone at the house. There were no school projects or assignments, no homework or work-work; it was one of those few days in a year you would use to go to your boyfriend’s house and “study.”
“I’m not leaving until you let me in, YN!”
After ignoring him all day at school, you knew you wouldn’t be off the hook for long. Sugawara always worried about you like this. There wasn’t a day gone by that you two hadn’t at least contacted each other via phone, so there was no doubt he knew something was up.
But you stayed put on the living room couch, wrapped up in a blanket and hugging yourself while trying to convince yourself the tears were just allergies.
“YN!”
There was a saddened whine in his voice, like a hint of desperation.
You wondered if he was hurting like you. Would he be as jealous if you acted that way with somebody else? Would it pain him to see you blush and value another boy’s touch? Would he even care?
Or were you just being childish?
In every relationship lies one secret insecurity. One person’s more attractive, another’s skinnier, another’s taller. Another may be smarter or another may have a more stable life. There’s always a possible hamartia. And yours?
Sugawara was older than you.
He never treated you like a child, though he had that habit. His friend group was all older, and yours, of course, was younger.
It was only a year, but in high school, that made all the difference. Girls his age, in his class, always spending time around him were bound to go after him at some point. At least, that’s what you always assumed. You’ve never told Sugawara any of it-- of your fears that there was another girl who he talked to that one day might just peel him right from your grasp-- you didn’t want him to think you were being childishly insecure.
And so, seeing Sugawara with Kiyoko made your volcano of unease erupt.
“YN, please!”
But you didn’t want to lose him. God, you really didn’t want to let him go. He was kind and loving and made you feel things you’d never felt before.
“Hey.”
So you slithered out of your nest of blankets and opened the door.
In a word, he looked disheveled. His hair stuck up in every which way, unkempt tufts barely catching the light of your porch. His hand, still frozen in the air to keep knocking, shook in place. But what most rattled you to your core was his face.
He looked… scared. If you didn’t know any better, you might’ve thought a murderer was after him. The cold of what was eight p.m. in March had bitten his cheeks and nose to a nice pink color. Angry lines framed worried, hazel eyes that widened at the sight of you. Or more, the tear streaks you had failed to hide.
“YN,” he sounded winded, “what happened?”
Now. Right now was the moment you had been dreading. Unloading all of your personal insecurities onto another person was quite possibly the hardest thing to do, mostly because you knew nothing could be done about it.
“I…” The words were trapped, caught in your throat in a nasty combination of crap you could only hack up in the form of a sob. “I, um.” And that’s all you could say.
For a solid two minutes, Sugawara waited patiently for nothing. His brows rose in a gesture of take your time, but after seeing your lips stay zipped instead of opening and closing with the possibility of words, he must’ve gotten the hint.
He nodded then pursed his lips. “Okay then. Why don’t we… well, come with me. I want to show you something.”
Without another word, he snagged your hand and tugged you out of your house before closing the door.
“Maybe you can tell me what’s up once we’re there.”
~~~
The drive wasn’t long, but by the time it was over, Sugawara’s headlights and the moon were the only lights around.
The local park sign greeted you once he helped you out of his car, closing the door for you before grabbing your hand and leading you away.
You were surprised at how warm his fingers were when they intertwined with your own, flexing against yours out of habit while Sugawara tugged you around.
“There,” he muttered under his breath, leading you right to the thickest oak tree around. The trees were few and far between in the clearing where you two settled, and just barely in the distance could you see the plastic playground of the city.
“Come on.” After taking a seat against the rough trunk, he pulled you down into his lap with a soft smile. Like always, your back leaned into his front, which worked as a heater in the slight breeze of the night. His hands wound around your waist and hugged you flush against him with not even an inch to spare. Both of your guys' legs lay straight out, his just outside your own but pushing them close enough together that one almost sat on top of the other.
Instinctively, your hands relaxed down onto his thighs, and you finally let yourself relax back into his form.
The silence was nice and peaceful. For a moment, you forgot why he had even brought you there. When you truly let go and wound your arms up behind Sugawara’s neck, he decided to break it.
“So… do you want to talk about it?”
Not really, but you knew you had to. Tonight, you just wanted this undisturbed moment with him. You just wanted to listen to the trees rustle and the crickets chirp, all with him by your side. But you knew that if you wanted more moments like this, you had to start talking.
“Koushi,” you sighed and shook your head, “yesterday, at… at the game, right?”
“Yeah?”
“You and Kiyoko got really, um, really close.” You could feel him suck in a breath, but he let it out slowly before humming for you to continue.
“I think I see where this is going.”
You weren’t sure what to make of that response, so you kept speaking. “You held hands and-- God, I feel so stupid, but it made me kind of… jealous.”
“And that’s why you ignored me all day?”
Out loud, it sounded ridiculous-- ridiculous and foolish. So why did the memory of them still hurt?
“Yeah. Basically.”
You wanted to say more. You wanted to explode and confess, just let loose of all the feelings you’ve kept rammed up for months of being with him, but you just didn’t want to run the risk of losing him.
You loved him. At least, you think you did. It’s only been so many months, but when he wasn’t around, you missed him, and when he was around, your heart raced with excitement. Seeing him with Kiyoko almost made it look like things were one-sided.
“Kiyoko and I are just friends.”
A log broke away from the dam in your chest, increasing your need to let loose.
“Yeah, I know.” Your voice was tight, and there was no chance Sugawara hadn’t heard it. His fingers started dancing along your stomach, slipping up your shirt only so far as the skin below your belly button before splaying along the hot flesh.
“YN, I know you’re still not telling me something. Please, you can talk to me. I’m your boyfriend, and I’m here for you.”
The level of comfort those words held, Sugawara had no idea. Your heart fluttered at just their meaning. Someone was there for you, and they wanted to listen.
So you spoke.
“I just,” you didn’t know why, but your eyes began to burn with tears, “I know I’m not that girl, you know? The one that everybody would love to talk to and stops and stares at. The one that people would kill to touch or smell or something. And I know that’s weird or selfish, but God, I just hated seeing you with a girl like that.”
“YN-”
“Kiyoko’s perfect,” you continued, throat constricting the more you choked out. “I know that. Everyone loves her and wants her, but…” The first salty trail paved its way down your cheek. “Koushi, I want to be that girl sometimes. It’s gonna sound vain, but I really wanted to be that girl to you. But maybe I needed to be knocked down a peg like that.”
“YN!” His voice rose and cracked, and his forehead dropped to your shoulder. “Please, please don’t think those things about yourself. Please.” With an open-mouthed kiss to your neck, he shook his head. “I don’t want the girl I love thinking these things. I want you to be happy. I want to make you happy. You must not see it, but you’re that girl to me all the time.”
Another kiss, this one sloppier as he bit back his own tears.
“Koushi-”
“I hate making a fool of myself in front of you.” Kiss. “I hate how I still feel like a little schoolboy whenever I see you.” Kiss. “Fuck, I mean, my hands shake and my heart flutters and I just know my damn palms are sweating but I still want to hold you.” Kiss. “And YN, when I hold you, I can’t even think straight.” His entire back has curled in over your form like a shield. “My heart just pounds like crazy and I feel so stupid because I keep thinking that we’ve been together for so long and I still get so excited to see you, like a damn toddler on Christmas.”
The two hands under your shirt travel to your sides so Sugawara can turn you in his lap until you’re facing him head on. Then they peel away and cup your face, fingers stroking the skin while Sugawara stares at you with what could only be described as pure love in his eyes.
Just the sight of it robs the air from your chest. Breathless couldn’t describe it, but a rush of elation could. Your stomach twinged with excitement as you swallowed up the unfiltered allegiance Sugawara was swearing to you with his soft, hazel eyes.
“YN, I can’t believe you thought anybody else could make me feel something more than you.” A thumb brushes over your lips while he shakes his head. “You must be blind.”
When your hands reach up to tangle into his hair, he only allows one of them to complete the trip. The other, meanwhile, is caught by the wrist. Sugawara leads your hand to his chest, pressing your palm flat against the space hiding his heart.
“Can you feel it?” You do. His heart is pounding, much like your own. The speed and force of each thump under your palm has you leaning your cheek into his other hand. “There’s that smile I love so much.” His thumb runs over your upturned lips once more, and you can’t help but blush.
“Koushi.”
“Hmm?” His eyes are still locked on your lips, but they slam shut once you pull him into a kiss. A moan escapes his throat at the feeling. It’s passionate and thankful and loving. It washes your worries away and has you confront the warm, soft truth: you’re in love with him, and that’s what matters. You’re urged to separate only for a truly desperate need of air, and even then the distance between you barely grows.
His hot breath warms your cheeks as he dips his forehead against yours, dropping his hands to wrap your legs around his waist. Fingers massage the flesh of your thighs as he keeps his eyes closed, lips searching for yours once again only to be stopped by a giggle. His eyes flash open at the sound, crinkling at the corners when his mouth curls into a confused smile.
“What?”
“Nothing, nothing.” In all honesty, you feel like you're on cloud nine, riding a wave of pure bliss. “It’s just…” your hand pats against his chest, rumpling the white t-shirt he’s wearing. “Your heart’s beating really fast. Maybe we should take a little break.”
Sugawara chuckles and leans back against the tree, ducking your face into the crook between his neck and his shoulder with a hand in your hair.
“Trust me, princess. When you’re nearby, it always beats this fast.”
so osamu x reader angst au where osamu is deeply in love with the reader and decided to dye his hair blonde so reader can cope with tsumu's death but didn't like this idea anymore, he wanted her to love him for who he truly is,,, 👉👈

Summary: A car crash has taken Osamu’s brother away, the boy you liked so dearly. Osamu was dull to the pain, his crush on you blinding him from reality. But when he dyes his hair in hopes that he could make you feel the same, he realizes he may have gone too far.
A/N: Sorry it took me a while. As per request, we got some major angst, but I gotta be honest, I don’t think Osamu’s evil enough to focus on a girl rather than his brother, so I focused more on his desperation to replace what he had lost than anything else. Hope you enjoy!

Maybe it was a mistake. A screw up of the royal kind.
But at most, it was a lapse in judgement.
High school boy found dead in a car accident. That’s what the newspapers said, but it didn’t account for the total grief of it all.
Boy, dead. Drunk driver, critical condition. The navy blue truck totalled the small SUV at eight o’ clock at night after running a red light. Witnesses called for help, and that was it.
Except it wasn’t.
The journalists didn’t talk about the empty bedroom across from Osamu’s. They didn’t talk about the abandoned desk in Class 4b, the bare seat at the lunch table, the still-full locker in the hallway.
Atsumu was gone, with only an indifferent news article to his name.
Practice was never quite the same. Each time Osamu went, he couldn’t help but stare at the floor where his brother once stood. Deep down, he knew he should have cried by now. Bawled tears at the funeral, or maybe let one slip when he saw the first layer of dust settle onto his brother’s dresser.
But the truth was that he hadn’t. Yeah, it hurt, but he couldn’t… feel it. Every sense in his body was numb as he got through each passing day like turning the pages of a book without reading them. Things were happening, he just didn’t care enough to listen.
Osamu guessed the one who was visibly taking it the hardest was you, who won by a landslide.
The night he died, you had texted the quieter twin with wide-eyed innocence, revealing that the next day at school, you were going to give Atsumu a letter telling him how you feel.
I can do it! Just watch me, Samu!
The chance never came, and when Osamu informed you of what had happened, you had broken down in his arms.
And he felt sick for the first time.
Disgust at himself for actually being happy that he was the one to hold you now, it was horrifying. The bile that had risen up his throat lost out to the joy.
Him, Osamu, he was the one you talked to now, each day asking him if he was okay, hugging him and confiding in him with your deepest thoughts.
You and Atsumu had been close in a way Osamu had always been envious of. Teasing and flirting, all of it turned him into a green-eyed monster.
So maybe that was what forced away his ache of loss. Around him, you were almost as happy, almost as teasing and playful, but you had lost that glint in your eyes. You didn’t have that with Osamu.
He knew that was what had sent him over the edge.
Two weeks after his brother’s death, still not a tear spilt. Instead, he spent all his time thinking about you. Your smile, less forced than before. The shine in your hair had returned, and your cheeks finally began to flush again.
Osamu entered the school and made a beeline for the classroom, praying that you had attended school today so he could see you. So you could validate what he had done.
And there you were, slipping into the classroom with the same dark circles under your eyes. They were no longer only from long nights of doing schoolwork.
“YN.”
Your head snapped up and your eyes met his in a split second. Then your gaze rose to his hair. Your lips separated to let out a single, quick breath of air while your brow twitched.
“At- Osamu?”
He nodded, the newly-blond hair shifting to hang in front of his eyes.
“Your… you changed your hair.”
“Yeah, I did.”
And that was that.
~~~
Having you by his side, Osamu could ignore all the stares he received. He never cared for attention, especially not now. Throughout the halls of school, people’s brows rose to their hairlines as they watched you both walk around, hand in hand and smile together.
It never seemed weird, and Osamu had never felt happier.
He wasn’t… he wasn’t alone anymore.
The bedroom across from his never bothered him when you stayed over at night. He hadn’t even travelled into it since the last time.
“Do you want to come over tonight?” Osamu didn’t really say it as a question, mostly because you were guaranteed to say yes anyways.
“Again? I think someone likes having me around.”
He did. God, he loved that adoring look on your face whenever he said he wanted you. Those puppy dog eyes of yours that you never seemed to notice you were giving him made his heart thump in a frantic pattern.
Volleyball wasn’t really a concern anymore. The new setter pissed him off, so he didn’t bother attending practice. His jerseys hung in his closet, unworn for what might’ve been a month now.
It was maybe… two months? Three? Osamu wasn’t sure, but Atsumu had left a while ago.
So he never bothered with the sport, meaning you could come over right after school, or he could even walk with you there.
You both had a tradition now. Homework, then a movie or show, then a nap together. Then Osamu either walked you home or, if it was too late, let you sleep in his bed for the night.
He found that your warmth fended off the nightmares that leered in on him at all hours in a day.
Today was a day that you stayed the night. The moon was already falling from the sky by the time you two finished eating a dinner of box mac and cheese, and thus it was decided that you shouldn’t bother going home.
Osamu’s blond head rested on your chest, and one leg was intertwined with both of your own. His arm was strewn across your stomach, heavy enough to keep you in place for the night.
You had two hands in his hair, head propped up on a pillow so you could make out the shape of the tufts in the black room. It was three am, and Osamu’s breathing had finally slowed and leveled.
“Atsumu,” you whispered, your own voice not even loud enough to hit your own ears. “Fuck, I miss you so much.”
Osamu shifted and your hands stilled, breath held in anticipation. Then he stopped and nuzzled his face back into your chest.
After waiting a couple more minutes just in case, you let out a sigh and combed through the long tufts again. “I’ll never stop loving you, Atsumu. I wish I could’ve told you that three months ago.”
Your eyelids grew heavy with sleep and you let out a yawn.
“I love you, Atsumu.”
And then you slipped into unconsciousness.
Atsumu was gone forever.
His bedroom was still empty, and a few spiders had probably claimed the corners of the room by now. Dust must have caked over every single picture and piece of furniture the boy had ever owned.
His bed was probably unmade, and would never be made again.
He was dead, and nobody could fill the holes his absence had left.
You couldn’t fix Osamu’s loneliness, no matter how much you latched onto him.
Osamu couldn’t replace his brother for you. He wasn’t really the boy you would love, no matter how hard he tried to be. Your words had confirmed that.
Dying his hair was a lapse of judgement. A last ditch effort for both of you to keep his memory alive.
But that effort was futile.
And so, for the first time since he had lost his setter in volleyball, his friend in school, his rival in love, and his twin for life, Osamu let reality sink in.
Against your chest, in the hold of the woman he loved unrequitedly, Osamu cried.
Summary: Tsukishima has accidentally started a growing tradition with you: he will attend your home volleyball games, and you will attend his. But why does it hurt so much when you finally miss one of his own games? Surely he doesn’t like you that much… right?
A/N: Lol yeah you actually did already send the request in, but honestly I appreciated that you expanded on your idea! With every request, I always wonder if I’m writing the right stuff, so I appreciated the elaboration in your second ask. Anyways, hope you enjoy!
Word count: 3436
Tsukishima knew you. Of course he knew you. You were the innocent girl who sat behind him in class, always fumbling with your glasses and scribbling with your pencil oh-so loudly.
By the time spring came around, he dubbed you Mouth-Breathing Mary. Evidently you had allergies, and rather than sniffling, you resorted to the second loudest option to obtain enough oxygen in your lungs to function properly. Everything you did, even though you sat a few roomy inches behind him, peeved him off so much.
Oh how he wished he could ignore it, your every little noise and sound effect. But something about you just stuck with him, interested him in some way. Like there was a part of you that hadn’t shown its face to him, or anybody, yet.
And, of course, he had “heard” of you too. Apparently some girl attending Karasuno High was a powerhouse on the court. With pictures in the news and games on TV, she was practically a worldwide legend for Women’s 18 and under volleyball. Tsukishima first learned about her while preparing for practice, watching the two resident perverts of the VBC leering over a new magazine with heart eyes.
“She goes to our school, doesn’t she? What a hottie!” Pint-Size had exclaimed.
“She looks so innocent too, just like our beloved Kiyoko!” Mr. No-Shirt responded.
So yeah. He did know both sides of you, but it only took one stroll past the open doors of the first gym during lunch for him to discover this. Yamaguchi had finally caught up with his strides when they both heard it.
WHAM!
Flinching at the sudden boom, they peered through the doorway like meerkats to spot the perpetrator.
You.
You, standing under the bright lights of the gym, forehead dripping sweat and face scrunched up in distaste at whatever had caused the bang that shook the room. Your eyes squinted behind the glass frames that blessed you with vision, allowing you to glare at whatever had displeased you.
It was a single water bottle standing in the corner of the court, closest to the open doors. Others just like it were laying askew along the wall, gathered up with spare volleyballs as well. There were about six bottles in total, and you, huffing and cursing under your breath, lined them all up along the back of the court. After this, you returned to your spot on the other end. Then-
WHAM!
The first bottle farthest from your spectators slammed against the back wall before you retrieved another volleyball from the basket at your side. Toss, step, step, jump…
WHAM! WHAM!
WHAM!
Finally, you knocked over all the bottles in a patterned succession. You had done so with a hawk-like precision, almost looking like you could do it in your sleep. The only things that ruined the picture of you being this blank-faced pro were the small fist pump you allowed yourself and the wide grin that grew on your face. Then you started anew, lining them up along the edge of the court and refilling your volleyball supply once more.
“Wow,” Yamaguchi whispered breathlessly, shocking Tsukishima out of his stupor. “She’s good!”
First, his lips twitched. Then his jaw clenched. And finally, with a small readjustment of his glasses performed by a single index finger, Tsukishima spoke.
“Let’s go back. Lunch is almost over.”
~~~
The aloof blond almost couldn’t believe it. Mouth-Breathing Mary was a devastating beast on the volleyball court. How? How does someone who looks like they couldn’t even walk past an animal shelter without bursting into tears do that?
“Hey,” your voice, along with an incessant jab to his back via the butt end of your pencil grabs his attention instantly. “I saw you watchin’ me at lunch today, creeper.”
Observer of those who were potentially more skilled at volleyball than he was? Yes. Creeper? No.
“I was simply inspecting what was making such a racket in the gym. Don’t flatter yourself.”
The comment makes you scoff. “Psh, all right. I’ll buy that B.S. for now, stalker.”
His teeth were going to be grinded to dust before the day was over. However, Tsukishima chooses to stay silent, glueing his eyes to his textbook in order to ignore the feeling of your gaze on his back.
“By the way,” you nudge his shoulder blade once more, making him glance toward the ceiling.
“Yes?”
“I have a game tomorrow night, just in case you wanna ‘inspect more racket’ in the gym.”
No. Of course he wouldn’t go, are you kidding?
~~~
“Tsukki, why are we here again?”
“Shush.” Crowds whooped and hollered after the sound of a large wham, no different from that of a poor volleyball smacking against freshly polished wood. Shoes squeaked down on the court, along with the occasional “cover me” and “it’s up!”
The audience for tonight’s game was a lot more than Tsukishima expected as he shouldered his way through the bumbling bodies. He was finally able to catch a breath of fresh air when he surfaced at a metal railing, Yamaguchi huffing just as heavily not far behind.
Down on the court, from what Tsukishima could tell, the game wasn’t exactly fair.
It wasn’t really Karasuno Girls’ Volleyball Club versus Aoba Johsai.
No. It was actually you versus six untainted souls, so pure and ready to be petrified. You were in the middle of serving a serious reality check to the girls on the other side of the net when their coach called a time.
Apparently, one of the wing spikers had sustained a nice bruise to the forearms while trying to field your classic server’s ace. It was her fault really, but her replacement was shaking just as much in her court shoes.
Halfway through the game, Tsukishima finally understood why so many people were here. Watching you was almost like a drug. Not that he was addicted or anything.
It was like throwing a lion in the gazelle exhibit at the zoo. Ducks on a pond. Fish in a barrel. Whatever other analogies there were out in the world that could explain how much you were opening a can of whoop ass right now.
At a certain point, the Aoba Johsai girls weren’t even trying. Tsukishima almost swore he heard a whimper from one of them after your spike had flown past her face.
Yep. He finally got it. You were like a highlight reel of the best volleyball players to exist. There was even a journalist from the local news taking pictures and writing notes in the corner of the stands right now!
And yet, the next day at school, you were that same little lamb that sat behind him in class. The glasses hiding your eyes also disguised the gaze’s capacity for ferocity. Last night, and every game he assumed before that, you were a force to be reckoned with.
And, yeah, he totally didn’t like you or anything.
~~~
Karasuno didn’t always host home games for their boys’ volleyball club, but when they did, there was always one person in the audience Tsukishima looked for.
You.
At one point, you had stopped teasing him for attending your games, and instead you began to return the favor. Now, sure, there were less people in the audience when the boys played because, really, who did they have that was a world champion like you?
Anyways, Tsukishima and you had made a silent agreement after however many games you had cheered for each other. No words needed to really be spoken about it, and Tsukishima almost preferred it that way. In all honesty, the tall middle blocker felt like he played better under your watchful eyes. You were really the only person who he could depend on that believed in him, and him alone.
You weren’t intrusive or loud like his brother, but whenever he instinctively glanced up at you after a particularly well-executed block, you always blushed and glanced away in this cute little way of yours. Tsukishima just knew it. He liked you.
Not that he would ever admit it to your face, though.
And he liked to think that you found comfort in his presence during your games as well. Though he didn’t nearly catch your eye as much up in the stands (you were always too in the zone), you would always give him a little thumbs up and a grin after a game.
It was the most frustrating thing, as Tsukishima always had to glance away to fend off his own flush. He hated how easily you could break down his stoic walls in your own little shy ways. The only thing he hated more than that was the giggle he would hear after avoiding your gaze.
Now, tonight was yet another game, and another opportunity to see you.
Of course, he saw you during school hours, but he usually refrained from talking to you during that time. You were always too sly or too quiet, depending on the day, but also, deep down Tsukishima liked the distance that came between the two of you during games. It prevented that stupid little flutter of his heart whenever you would accidentally brush his hand in the hallway or draw weird patterns on the back of his uniform during class.
Yeah, he liked the distance. Most of the time.
~~~
It was five o’clock. The match was about to begin, and yet a certain middle blocker couldn’t stop his attention from straying to the stands.
Where…
“Tsukishima, get your ass out there!”
The blond cursed under his breath, adjusting his glasses on his face before jogging out onto the bright court. Kageyama threw his teammate a few strange glances, but kept his jaw wired shut. Good.
“Damn, Tsukki, what’s wrong with you today? Is your girlfriend not here to cheer you on?” a certain wing spiker teased, flashing his signature toothy smirk.
The middle blocker doesn’t respond, only flaring his nostrils at the fact that Tanaka was right. Well, half right.
“Tanaka’s right, you need to get your head in the game,” the blue-haired setter sneers.
This lights a fire under the middle blocker’s ass. “Nobody tells me how to play,” Tsukishima hisses, hands covering the back of his head as he waits for Hinata to serve. “Especially not a power-tripping king like you.”
“Calm it down, you two. We’ve got a game to play.” As always, Captain Daichi has to save the day, but that doesn’t distract Tsukishima from Buzzcut’s words.
Where were you?
~~~
Of course, Karasuno’s VBC won the game last night, but at the bottom of his heart, Tsukishima feels like it was unearned. Not seeing you in the crowd last night made his mouth taste bitter and his head pained. It’s not like he wanted to like you so much, but part of him still feels betrayed you had broken tradition.
Now, he could be realistic in this instant. Maybe you just had too much homework. Maybe your family had an emergency. Maybe you got into a car crash on your way to the game and died.
Really, the possibilities were endless.
Anyways, as Tsukishima sat in class, headphones plugged in as he waited for the first bell to ring, his final theory was proved false.
Tap tap. A familiar touch poked his shoulder from behind. That wasn’t the only reason for why he knew it was you; you were also the only person in the school who had the guts to actually touch the blank-faced genius of the volleyball club.
Playing off his indignation as reluctance, Tsukishima snaps his music off his ears and lays it on his desk, signalling for you to speak with a quick “Did you need something?”
Even he could tell his tone was icier than normal, and he almost cringed at the sound of you flinching back like he had burned you. “U-umm, I just wanted to say I’m sorry for missing your game last night.”
“You don’t have to come to my games.” The words tasted like poison in his own mouth even after he spat them, and Tsukishima knew he was only digging his own grave deeper. Evidently, though, you weren’t one to scare easily.
“You know,” you paused, taking a deep breath, “I would have felt terrible too if you missed one of my games.”
“Really?” is what the boy wanted to ask, but instead he stayed silent in effort to keep himself composed.
After waiting for him to respond and deducing that he wouldn’t, you continue. “I’m really sorry I wasn’t there to support you.” He hears you gulp. “B-but, uh, how did you guys do?” Your tone lifts at the end, trying to stay positive considering the wall Tsukishima was currently putting up.
“We did fine,” he says after a while. “We won. And you don’t need to be sorry.”
“But I am,” he hears you shuffling nervously in your seat, “and I want you to know that I was only gone because I was making something. Something kinda special actually.”
From the way you said it, whatever you had made was actually quite personal. Tsukishima’s heart fills with guilt at forcing such a confession out of you, but he still feels burned himself.
So he replies with a nod and a hum, and that’s the most you guys communicate for the rest of the day.
~~~
Same day, new game. As Tsukishima slips on his jersey in the locker room, his mind wanders to thoughts of you. More specifically to if you’ll be at his game tonight.
He highly doubted it, especially after the way he treated you this morning. Though cold and remote were his signature styles, he hated that it might have closed you off for good this time.
“...Tsukki? You okay?” Yamaguchi only stops waving his hand in front of his friend’s face when the blond bats it away with a scowl.
“What?”
“You’ve been staring at the wall for like ten minutes,” the shorter boy shrugs, “everyone else has gone to the gym now. I was just waiting for you to snap out of it so we could go.”
Yikes. If Tsukishima’s head was already out of it now, who knows what would happen with him during the game. As much as he hates the thought, his playing abilities seemed to be tethered to you. The closer you were, the better they became.
God, how had he fallen so far?
“I’m ready. Let’s go.” Tsukishima leads the way, Yamaguchi trailing not even a stride behind him down the steps and into the school’s main gym.
It’s bright and buzzing with volleyball life inside.Yellow- and blue-striped balls fill rolling baskets to the brim, meanwhile others fly through the air at compromising speeds. The other team has arrived and is practicing harmoniously, not a single player out of step.
This team was good, and Karasuno would have to be better.
“Glasses, get your ass over here!” Coach Ukai shouts with no shame, waving Tsukishima over to the rest of the spikers who were already running and jumping above the net.
The middle blocker joins the group with ease, practicing in their normal rhythm. Of course that would be easy; it was the spontaneity of a game that would be able to catch him off his guard later.
No. Tsukishima could play without you. It was hard to break out of a habit, but he wasn’t as weak-minded as some other people he knew (his eyes locked on Hinata as he thought this).
And so the game commenced. Refs arrived, crowds filed in, and in a single, bare area up in the stands sat you.
Tsukishima blanched at the sight. Thankfully, he was starting the game in the player box, but that didn’t mean your presence hadn’t rattled him.
Well, maybe it wasn’t your presence, per se, it was more so the homemade sign you waved through the air after winking cheekily at him.
“#11, I’ll give you a kiss if you win!” it said.
The sign was twice your size across, and every word sparkled black with an orange outline. There was a heart in the corner, and a small volleyball sat atop the i in “kiss.”
“Ooh, look whose girlfriend showed up today?!” Tanaka catcalls, whistling as Tsukishima goes ghost white.
Don’t blush, don’t blush, don’t blush.
It was a nice attempt, but unsuccessful overall. In the end, the blond can only shake his head as a hint of a smile creeps onto his face. It’s the best you’ve ever gotten, though, so you better take it and run.
For the rest of the game, Tsukishima is forced to play with pink cheeks, ignoring every eyebrow waggle from Nishinoya and every suggestive elbow to the side from Tanaka. And of course you tease him too.
Each time he glances up at you like he normally does, you throw him a beaming smile and shake the sign you still hold, leaning on the railing it hangs over. Though he would hate to admit it, it still pumps him up like normal. Every block is just a tad better, and every serve just a tad stronger.
And by the end of that game, you best believe he was waiting for that kiss.
The ref blows the whistle, the last set won by Karasuno with seven points hanging over the other team’s head. The tall middle blocker’s eyes dart to yours and that’s all the signal you need to clamber your way down onto the court, sign still intact.
You hand it to him as soon as you're close enough and for some unexplainable reason, Tsukishima accepts the responsibility of holding the sign willingly.
Your eyes glow with excitement but the rest of your body language tells that you’re shy, including the smallest little nibble on your lower lip that you would soon discover drives him up the walls.
“Well?” Tsukishima finally asks, glancing you up and down before locking his gaze on your face.
“Hmm?” you hum, playing innocent because of course you would do that during a time like this. Tsukishima had figured out early on that you were just as terrible with emotions as he was. Maybe you could work on it together, but that would have to be saved for later. Right now, you owed him.
Tsukishima doesn’t bother to respond to your teasing. Instead, he sighs and tosses aside the sign, ignoring as it flutters to the ground for all to see before tugging you closer by your hand. Your eyes widen with nervousness, but the blond doesn’t bother to let it grow into an all-out halt on the situation.
No. He wouldn’t give up this chance. No matter how many others were watching.
Though you were only seven inches shorter than him, he still tips your head up before leaning down and capturing your lips against his.
It’s short and sweet, because Tsukishima is never one to reveal all his cards on the first go. He presses his lips to your softer ones and makes note of just how much pressure might drive you crazy at a later date, then he pulls away, immediately wanting to absorb your blissed expression.
It doesn’t disappoint, as in the short few seconds your first kiss had lasted, your pupils had blown wide and your cheeks had transitioned from a gentle pink to a burning red. Your hands had barely had enough time to reach up and tangle in his hair, so you follow through with the act then, intertwining your fingers right at his nape.
“Well-deserved,” you breathe out with a grin, tugging his sweaty forehead down before pressing your own against it. Tsukishima just barely copies your expression, allowing a slight curl at each end of his mouth as he cranes his neck to meet your face. He raises a questions brow when your smile twists into a smirk.
“I’d still kick your ass in volleyball though.” Tsukishima rolls his eyes as you playfully nudge his glasses with your own.
“That’s debatable.”
He was warm.
The bed shook as he slipped under the covers, arms wrapping around you while you feigned sleep.
Why did it hurt so much?
His grip on you never tightened. It was as simple as that.
His chest was hot near your back. You couldn’t feel it’s solidity anymore though.
There was a wall between you and Konoha now. Every inch of space between you two created a wall. You didn’t like it.
You couldn't stop it.
Sitting in silence, you waited until his breathing slowed. Then you shifted in his grip, moving closer to feel him while also turning to face him. This was the closest you had gotten in weeks.
He was so peaceful in his sleep, dirty blond hair splayed against his pillow. You couldn’t see his dark eyes behind his closed lids, and for that you were thankful.
In moments like these, you could pretend they still held love. You could pretend they would still squint in delight at the sight of you. You could pretend their pupils would still widen when you embraced him in a hug.
But the fact was that they didn’t. Your hopes, your requited love, your shared future, it was all just a dream. A fruitless dream.
In your own eyes, Konoha was the one. One day, you wished you two would get married and spend the rest of your lives together. You wanted to walk down the aisle under his adoring gaze. You wanted to dip your toes in the hot sand of a gorgeous beach beside his grinning form. You wanted to watch him spill a single tear at the sight of a newborn in his arms.
A whole future was visible before your eyes. Every detail was beautiful. Not perfect, but beautiful.
Konoha couldn’t see it. He didn’t want to see it. God, how you wanted him to see it, wanted him to want it. But he didn’t.
Nothing was more hopeless than that wish. The idea of being together forever, loving each other for the rest of your lives was nothing but a pipe dream. Not even a pipe dream. It was just a damn dream. One you needed to let go.
Tonight would be your last night in his arms. You should have ended it before he joined you in the bed, but you just wanted to feel him one last time. It was a lapse in judgement, but a final farewell all the same.
Tomorrow you will move on. Tomorrow you’ll let him go and carry on with your life. You’ll let him find someone else, someone who wanted the same things he wanted.
And maybe one day you could find someone for yourself.
Still, it hurt to think that there was nothing you could do. There was nothing left to salvage in your relationship.
How…
How can someone possibly describe the pain?
It wasn’t physical, but it was damn near close. Your heart was… aching, yearning for reciprocity.
Konoha wanted a girlfriend. He wanted movie dates and posters at volleyball games. Study nights and silly little pranks. Posts and pictures online of the two of you everywhere and anywhere.
You wanted the love of your life. A man to marry and have children with. Someone to hug in joy as you watched first steps, listened to first words. Someone to go to for comfort when work was stressful or when college days began.
Konoha wanted good times.
You wanted commitment. But you couldn’t force that on him. So yes, tonight was the last night with him.
So you wiped away your tears and pressed a gentle kiss to his cheek. You wrapped your arms around his waist and pulled him close, intertwining your legs with his.
He was warm. He always was.
Then you closed your damp eyes and laid your head against his chest, letting out a broken sob when his hands squeezed just a bit tighter.
You promised yourself this was it. This was the last night you would be in his arms. Then you would let him go. You promised.
Then you fell asleep.
***
Within the span of a month, Konoha’s arm had already fallen over another girl’s shoulder.
Within the span of a month, you still felt just as much love for him as you did when you let him go. But the truth was clear before your eyes.
You couldn’t force him to be with you for your own dreams.
You couldn’t force him to love you.
You couldn’t help it.
“YN, grab the water bottles please!”
Even though it hurt, some part of you just wanted-- no, needed to see him. Just being in class with him wasn’t enough.
“On it!”
No matter how many times you called it an extracurricular activity, you knew deep down it was so much more than that. It bordered on creepy just how much you watched him during practice. But… it made life more bearable.
While, yes, Kenma’s girlfriend would occasionally come and watch practices, most of the time you could pretend she didn’t exist. It was just you and him when she wasn’t around, and you hated how much that thought pleased you.
“Thanks.” The blond setter spared you a small smile as he accepted the bottle, gulping down the drink with the thirst of a man stranded in the desert. Practice had gone for about an hour and a half now, and gave purpose to the sweat droplets trailing down his forehead. It took a tremendous amount of effort to even drag your gaze away from his flushed face.
You couldn’t help it. As much as you wanted to ignore it, you were falling hard. Kenma was… perfect. He handed out smiles sparingly, making you feel blessed whenever you were on the receiving end. Every move he made was carefully calculated, and you loved the look of curiosity and intrigue that would occasionally flicker when something fell out of place. In volleyball, in school, in life, he was simply all-around breathtaking. You hung on every sparse word that fell from his lips because God, he was just beautiful.
Often you wondered if he thought the same about you.
Yes, yes, you knew he had a girlfriend. That simple fact kept you awake at night, biting back tears and hugging a pillow to your chest. But during the day, you never let it show. Because, well, it simply felt good to see him. Being around your soulmate, together or not, made the pain just the tiniest bit more bearable.
That’s what soulmates were supposed to do, after all. Comfort their other halves with their presence, make them feel loved and cherished. So yes, just being near him, just being his volleyball team manager was enough.
“Kenma, you’re doing so good baby!”
Most of the time.
~~~
School sucked. It always sucked.
More recently, however, you thanked whatever floated up in that deep blue sky for it, because you sat next to him.
“Ms. YLN, please pay attention!” You straightened up in your chair and nodded your head frantically, blushing at the sounds of giggles around the room.
“Sorry sir.” The teacher glanced at you over his glasses with pursed lips before returning to the board, scraping random equations in white chalk.
You couldn’t help it. It was the only time Kenma’s girlfriend was guaranteed to not be around. In those times, your heart fluttered at his proximity. It seemed you had become hyper-aware of his presence over the past few weeks, shivering at even the slightest bit of contact.
Like a lonely dog, you felt touch-starved, depraved of your body’s most necessary essentials. Not being around Kenma made you grumpier, more easily disturbed and aggravated. Being around Kenma’s girlfriend, however, had the same effect.
Moments like those, where Kenma was so close to touch and yet so far away in your heart was when you defaulted to your newest habit-- poking, prodding, and twirling the red string on your pinkie.
Weeks-- or was it months-- ago, you had sputtered the lie that you couldn’t see it; that Kenma’s eternal attachment to you was one-sided, but it soon became your largest source of comfort.
Now was one of those moments. You had a lapse in judgement, and being nervous and embarrassed after being called out by your teacher, you slipped up. And Kenma saw.
Gnawing on your lip, you anxiously pinched the ruby string. It was smooth, almost like silk, but just as thick as woven yarn, wrapped loosely around your final finger. You twisted and rotated it, spinning nervous circles around your skin.
And then you tugged.
Kenma’s left hand, absent-mindedly holding up his chin while the other drew lazy patterns on his desk top, slips right out from under his head and falls limply into the aisle space between your and his desks. He barely avoids face-planting by flattening his other palm against the table and holding himself up, and by then you know you’re screwed.
His eyes are wide as they dart to his fallen arm, dragging it back up to his desk and staring in bewilderment at his hand, or more specifically his pinkie. Even more specifically, the red string wrapped around it, trailing through the air and creating a flimsy bridge to you.
Oh shit.
You’re clenching your jaw and avoiding his awed gaze with all the will you can muster, but a discovery has already been made.
“YN-”
“Mr. Suzuki!” You snap your hand up in the air in an instant, trying to ignore how it trembles. The red string is clearly visible to both you and Kenma at this point, and fuck, he knows! “May I please go to the bathroom?”
“Can it wait-”
“It’s an emergency!”
“Ohh, y-yes please do.”
Kenma watches you with a look in his eyes you don’t dare decipher as you slip out of the classroom, ducking your head and chewing on the insides of your cheeks.
Goddamnit YN!
~~~
Attending the volleyball game tonight almost wasn’t an option, but the coach begged and pleaded that you be there.
“Bring it to me!”
It was only a practice game, but against your school’s most fated rivals. The “trash-can showdown,” everyone was calling it.
“It’s up!”
The other team, Karasuno, was good, but less-experienced. However, they did have a little spitfire on their team that appeared almost identical to a tangerine, and slightly reminded you of Nemo.
Wham!
He was good too.
Kenma, however, seemed out of it. He could play his best during a thunderstorm wrapped up in a monsoon, but that didn’t mean you couldn’t see how disturbed he was. Especially since every few seconds his eyes locked on you.
But alas, the game also had one very special guest. Her. So you kept your distance and avoided his presence like the plague.
Slam!
Pop!
Boom!
The game is over sooner than you expect it, and you flip over the last point card. Nekoma wins 25-23, and all the boys are worn to the bone.
“One more game!” the ginger spiker cries aloud, his blue setter nodding in agreement.
They’re the only ones standing while everyone else is passed out in sweat puddles. “Fuck no!” Yamamoto hisses, dropping his head back to the floor directly after.
A giggle sounds from the wall, but only you were close enough to hear it from your spot nearby. It’s Kenma’s girlfriend, and she’s watching….
Oh.
You knew that look before. Her petite figure, from head to toe, is directed toward Karasuno’s pint-sized middle blocker.
You couldn’t lie. They would look good together. Perfect even.
Oh.
~~~
Weeks. Fucking weeks passed and they were still together, just as lovey-dovey as before, if not more so now.
Distantly, you wondered if Kenma knew. You wondered if she had told him she met her soulmate. You wondered if….
Fuck it.
There was no point in wondering. They were still together, and not even meeting their soulmates had stopped them.
It was the ultimate blockade in their relationship, and they broke through like no big deal. Maybe you were right. Maybe you just weren’t meant to be, no matter how much you fucking praised yourself for finally gaining the guts to tug on your string.
That shit doesn’t happen on accident, you know.
But obviously it had no effect. A young spiker at another school would be left just as lonely as you. His eyes were so bright and innocent, full of life. You envied him, so naive and wide-eyed, because unlike you, he would never have to watch his soulmate with somebody else. The boy, Hinata you think his name was, would go his whole life with the hope that one day his soulmate would find him and be with him forever.
God, how you envied his obliviousness. You didn’t want this baggage, emotional and physical. The more you were around Kenma, the more your string tugged against your pinkie, urging you to fight for what you would never win.
Perhaps… without the connection, you could feel better?
Certainly it wouldn’t hurt, right?
Just a little snip and you could go back out into the world just as your own soulmate had done. Find someone to settle down and be happy with, no matter how daunting of a task that was.
Maybe Kenma could be happy for you, just as you had been for him initially. Surely this act would benefit you both, right?
The string was just… useless at this point. It held no purpose other than pain. And with that, you had decided.
Finding scissors in a school is easy. An art class was your first target. All classes had just ended and people were making their ways home.
Volleyball practice would start soon.
You would be there, happy as a clam. Free as a bird.
You only had twenty minutes before it began. Luckily, the action could be performed quickly. It was the internal resistance that made the task five hundred times harder.
The teacher had left for the day, leaving her classroom unlocked for the custodian. Students occasionally walked past the open doorway, still emptying out of the building, and if they were to glance inside, all they would see is you. You, seated upon a desk, a pair of scissors in one hand, the other hand sitting tentatively in your lap. You, blank-faced observing your pinkie and the string wrapped around it.
You, ready to let go of all the pain.
It won’t hurt anymore, YN!
When you see him, he’ll just be another person to you. A nobody.
You can move on now! Find someone for yourself if you just fucking snipped it!
The blades stood parted, waiting for the order, for just a little pressure on both ends. Then it would all be over.
But you couldn’t.
No matter how much you strained your hand, urging yourself to squeeze the muscles, close the blade and rupture the broken promise, you couldn’t do it.
“Goddamnit,” you mumbled under your breath, squeezing your eyes closed and wishing you weren’t crying over this.
It was so unfair. The only person being hurt throughout all of this was you. Nobody else cared. Nobody else noticed. Nobody else-
“YN.” What?
You jumped at the sudden voice, soft and all-too familiar. The blades slipped between your fingers after having flinched and clattered to the floor, catching more ears than anything else. Kenma’s gaze only flickered to the kiddy scissors once before it returned back to you, pained.
“You, umm, you shouldn’t do that.”
Excuse me?
“What?” You were the definition of dumbfounded, immobilized on top of the desk with your fingers twitching just above your lap.
“You shouldn’t do that.”
Nothing had changed. He stood right in the doorway, the sunlight from the hallway windows giving his uneasy posture an angelic aura. No emotion was clear on his face; instead, it was a mixture of furrowed brows and pursed lips, followed by golden eyes that swirled with an unfamiliar emotion.
He, in himself, was a blur of mixed messages.
“Why not?” Of course you knew what he was talking about, but you felt more and more peeved at his words. He had no right to tell you what to do with such a useless, unbearable, futile red string-
“We broke up.”
…
Oh.
Suddenly it was hard to breathe.
“W-what?”
“She broke up with me.”
You were speechless. Mouth gaping like a fish, you struggled to find the words, any words to say to him. You didn’t even know how to feel, so you settled on the most basic reaction for when someone says those words.
“Oh, Kenma I’m so sorry.”
“No you’re not.”
“Excuse me?”
“You’re not.” He shrugged, finally stepping into the room and letting the door fall to a close. “And do you want to know how I know you’re not?”
You couldn’t respond.
“It’s because I’m not sorry either.” The words leave your heart racing as Kenma approaches you. Every step he takes triples the number of butterflies in your stomach. His shoes squeak against the floor but your eyes stay locked on his. You just couldn’t look away. You didn’t want to.
Finally, he’s close enough to touch you, just a hand’s width away from your knees where they bend and let your lower legs dangle. Your ears are perked and lying in wait while you fiddle with your fingers in your lap, hoping to fight off the urge to reach out for him.
“YN, I’m not sorry because it felt right.” Kenma shakes his head. “It felt good- actually, no, not good. Perfect. I wasn’t supposed to be with her.” He sounded hopeless. “On the inside, deep down, I realized I was glad I wasn’t.”
“...Why?”
“Because that girl who sat next to me in class, the girl who managed for all of my volleyball games and yet she didn’t know about our red string, she was on my mind twenty-four seven. YN, I just couldn’t stop thinking about you.”
You were wrong. Kenma didn’t sound hopeless. Sure, he sounded confused and lost, but not hopeless. If anything, you were finally able to identify that look in his eyes. Hope.
For a moment, you had nothing to say. Your chest was almost overflowing with joy, but something… something was stopping it. Apprehension stood in the form of a shadow of doubt. Why didn’t he…
“Why didn’t you do anything sooner?” You had just wanted to get the feeling out in some form of words. The feeling of Why did you string me along for weeks after finding out I knew?
Kenma was smarter than he looked. He always was, so you were glad he had uncovered the meaning behind your words.
“I thought…” he gulps and finally looks away after minutes of watching you, “I thought you didn’t want me. You didn’t tell me you knew about the string, and when I found out,” he shrugs, “I figured you didn’t say anything because you didn’t want me.”
Maybe… maybe you had both made mistakes. You had both indirectly hurt each other. Each of you was broken and hurting after what had transpired for months. Maybe the best way to go about fixing it was to finally do it together. Be together.
“I did want you. And I still want you. Do you… want me?”
At last, Kenma raises his head and makes eye contact with you, causing your heart to do somersaults in your chest. His cheeks are rosy, most likely almost identical to your own, and he decides to gift you a hint of a smile.
“Yes, please.”
~~~
“Kenma, set it this way!”
“One touch!”
“I got it, I got it!”
“Back me up!”
The setter was back to his A-game, and with every successful play, he sent you a glance.
Like a good girlfriend, you sent him back a proud grin each time that made him flush more than the sweat dripping down his temple.
By the end of the game, they won with four points to spare. The team hopped around in joy, screaming and pumping fists with cheers of triumph.
A small tug on your pinkie directed your eyes back to Kenma, where his lips twitched in effort to hold back a grin. Another tug almost pulled you off the bench, causing you to rise to your feet with a giggle.
The moment you came closer, Kenma shyly wrapped his arms around you and released an excited squeak into your hair.
“We won.” You could hear the restrained glee in his tone, it’s only outlet being the steadily increasing tightness of his hold around your waist.
Fine, you would celebrate for him, as always.
“YEAH YOU DID!” you squealed excitedly, digging your fingers into his sweaty jersey and jumping up and down. His form stayed stiff against your own, jiggling back and forth with your movements.
It was only when you tried to peel away that he finally responded, tugging you back in and smiling against your neck. “Geez, calm down, it’s only a game.”
“Pfft.”
Kenma chuckles and presses a kiss to your skin and suddenly you’re on cloud nine.
Nothing could be better than this, because this was destined. This was written among the stars, etched into the many spirals of the milky way, crafted only by fate itself.
This was two soulmates, forever meant to be.
What a useful red string this is.
What about an Alternate Ending to pumpkin eater reader where Kuroo sees Y/n dating someone else months or a year later (maybe she can end up with one of the other Haikyuu characters or something?) Cause I don’t forgive cheaters 😤
*GIF not mine*
Summary: Last night, your friend sent you pictures of Kuroo with some girl at a random club. Not only was he a liar, but he was also a cheater, and you couldn’t stand to be with him after this.
Buzz. Buzz.
“Good God, is that him again?”
“...Maybe.”
Buzz. Buzz.
“Son of a bitch, YN! Just block him already.”
“All right, all right fine! I will.”
…
Buzz. Buzz.
“OH COME ON!”
Terushima throws his hands in the air, giving up. You flush and tuck your phone under your thigh, hoping it will silence the buzzing.
It was movie night with your new friend/roommate and he had been seriously invested in the film up until about ten o’ clock, or, as you called it, “Kuroo’s whine time.”
“BLOCK THAT FUCKER!”
You knew he wasn’t wrong. In fact, you should have blocked him months ago. Six, to be exact. But deep down, you just weren’t ready to move on yet.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry. I turn it on silent.”
Terushima shook his head and held out his hand, giving you a pointed look. “Gimme it.”
“... Nuh-uh.”
“YN,” he dragged out your name, leering closer to you. “Give me the phone.”
“I’m good, thank you.”
“YN!” Terushima didn’t give you another chance. His home, his rules.
In an instant, your back is pushed down against the couch and you’re gasping for air as Terushima viciously attacks your sides with his long fingers. Giggle after giggle tumbles out of your mouth as you curl in like an armadillo.
“I yield, I yield!” You hold your hands after the pain in your abdomen grows to be too much. Terushima smiles at the win and he slows his hands, but keeps them on your sides.
His eyes glow with… something. Something you hadn’t seen since being with him.
But whatever. Maybe it was just the lighting.
The blond squeezes your sides before slipping a hand under your thigh and locating the phone. Before pulling it away, he pinches your soft flesh, completely uncovered thanks to your night shorts, and chuckles at the squeal that leaves you.
“Yuuji!”
“What?” He gives you an innocent look while tossing your phone across the room. Thankfully, it lands on his armchair.
All you can do is sigh and straighten yourself back up, reclaiming your original position by Terushima’s side and returning your attention to the movie. His eyes stay locked on you, so close, for just a second longer before he copies your movements, focusing back in on the movie with a small quirk of his mouth.
You met Terushima a month after breaking things off with Kuroo. He was the only apartment renter who wasn’t a freakshow or a cult leader, and you decided it was high time to get your own place. Especially after your friend, who had hosted you for one angsty, miserable month, kicked you out.
“You need to get over it, YN,” she had hissed, shoving your suitcase back into your arms before slamming the door in your face.
And while you were still working on moving on, Terushima was a big help. He was now your guy friend, who had many guy friends that could potentially become your boyfriends. But every time you asked him about setting you up with one of them, you were instantly shut down.
“You’re too good for them, YN. I’ll help you find someone better, I promise.”
It’s been five months, and you’re still waiting for that “someone better” to come along.
Now, when you had first moved in with Terushima, he seemed to be a bit of a mess. Clothes, his or someone else's, were always strewn everywhere. Girls were common midnight visitors, always sneaking out with their heels in their hands and giving you bashful smiles before slipping out the door. You would only sigh and roll your eyes.
“Your new girlfriend overstayed her welcome this round. I think she stole our Netflix password.”
Terushima would then purse his lips and avoid your gaze, gulping swiftly. “She’s not my girlfriend. I promise.”
“Sure sure. But your one-night stand still stole our password.”
Since then, he’s really cleaned up his act. You haven’t seen a girl come over in weeks. If you didn’t know any better, you’d say you were becoming a good influence on him, much like he was on you. Little by little, day by day, Terushima was beginning to help take your mind off Kuroo.
Since the day you broke down in the blond’s arms and admitted you were still stuck on him, he’s tried to help you. He even takes you on “dates” from time to time. Just yesterday you two had gone clubbing, and though you had gotten shitfaced, you figure something weird must have happened since Terushima’s been a tad awkward around you. But then he threw open your door an hour ago, scared the shit out of you, and reminded you that it was movie night.
You couldn’t help it. Your eyes were constantly drawn back and forth between the horror movie and the constantly-buzzing phone.
“YN look! A jumpscare’s coming!”
Just as you turned back to the TV, the serial killer flashed back into frame, leaving you to screech in terror and burrow into Terushima’s side. His arm wraps around your shoulders and rubs your arms for comfort.
“It’s okay, the killer’s gone now.” His voice is low and honeyed, accompanying a slight smile as he peers down at you with his affectionate gaze.
God how you missed being looked at like that. But you couldn’t get attached. Terushima was like Kuroo, but ten times worse. This was because he wasn’t secretive about his love life. Your very attractive roommate had a higher body count than a war general.
So you kept things platonic, no matter how much your body yearned for another route.
No. Terushima was your friend. Your best supporter at the moment. You couldn’t lose him like you had lost Kuroo.
So even though you cuddled deeper into his side with every heart-stopping scene, and hugged him whenever you were feeling down, and kissed his cheek as a thank you after he would massage your back and scratch your scalp after a long day at work, you would never throw any different labels on your relationship with Terushima.
You just couldn’t lose this one. And with him being a player, there was no point in making your feelings more than what they were.
~~~
Kuroo missed you. God, he missed you so much.
He loved you, and he would never stop trying to get you back!
That girl, she was a mistake. One Kuroo would never make again, because you were it for him. You were his one.
He will call you a million more times, text you, hell even track you down to the ends of the Earth just to have you back in his arms again.
He would give everything just to hear you say “I love you” one more time. He would die happy if he got to see those words fall from your soft lips, carefully quirked into a smile, just once. To have you back in his arms, wearing his clothes and kissing only him….
Fuck. He had to get you back.
There was no sign of you at your friend’s apartment when he finally gathered the guts to visit. Only a slap in the face courtesy of one vengeful friend of yours. He knew he deserved it, too.
But then… God, five more months passed. Not a single woman had been in his bed, your bed, since you left. Every flirtation was turned down, every grabby hand pushed off. The only person he wanted was you.
So imagine his relief when he finally found you.
~~~
“Yuuji, do you ever accidentally hurt someone with the piercing?” Your eyes were locked on the ball of metal sitting directly on his tongue while you took tentative sips of your hot chocolate.
Terushima sat across from you and smirked lazily, sticking his tongue out through his teeth as blatantly as he could. “Boy YN, you sure do ask a lot of questions about my piercing.” He sets his elbows on the small, circular table and leans closer to you. “It makes me wonder if you ever want to feel it for yourself.”
His cologne fills your nostrils, but you don’t mind. It’s become your favorite, most comforting scent. You lean closer and mock his smirk, lowering your voice just enough so only he can hear in the crowded cafe.
“I do.”
Terushima’s pupils widen in the slightest and he subconsciously leans closer.
You do the same, grin growing on your face before you swiftly reach out a thumb and forefinger and snag his tongue, giggling at the surprised yelp he lets out.
“YN!” he pouts with a lisp, smacking your hand away and hiding his mouth behind his own. “Why are you always like this?!”
“I don’t know Yuuji, it must be your piercing or something,” you snicker, picking up your drink once more and taking another sip. You allow your eyes to wander around the cafe, only to lock on the worst sight imaginable just behind Terushima’s head.
It’s him.
He shoves the glass doors open and barges through the crowd. Your companion takes in your panicked gaze and glances over his shoulder, sneering at the person approaching quickly.
“YN,” Kuroo breathes out in disbelief, hazel eyes locked on your tense form. A relieved smile overtakes his face as he reaches out for your hand. “I found you-”
You tear away from him and jump out of your chair, stepping away as your eyes begin to water. “Don’t touch me.”
“YN, I-”
“You heard her, dude. She said don’t touch her.” Terushima fixes an enraged glare on the black-haired man, standing out of his own chair and creating a barrier between your solemn form and him.
“And who are you,” Kuroo spits through clenched teeth, “her new boyfriend?”
“It-...” the blond’s jaw irks before he glances back at you, “it doesn’t matter who I am. If she doesn’t want you around, then you need to leave.”
“You’re not her guard dog, or even her new boyfriend. You’re just a rebound.”
“Guys…”
“YN doesn’t want you-”
“GUYS! SHUT UP!” You breathe heavily after the shout before smiling at the other customers as an apology. “Let’s take this outside,” you snarl lowly.
Like scolded children, the two men trail after you, almost fighting over who gets to squeeze through the door first until you throw them a warning look.
Kuroo pushes past the blond and strides towards you in an instant, capturing you in a hug that you don’t return. “God, you don’t know how much I’ve missed you.”
“Kuroo, I-”
“Tetsurou.” He corrects, voice muffled against your neck.
“... I didn’t answer your calls for a reason. We broke up. I don’t-... we can’t be together anymore.”
Your ex leans back enough to look at your face and scans it for any sign of lying. “YN, I didn’t mean to hurt you. That girl,” he shakes his head, biting his lip, “she meant nothing to me. But you-”
“Kuroo…”
“-You mean everything to me!” A tear trails its way down his cheek, but you don’t care to wipe it away. Your face hardens at the words.
“Then why did you cheat?”
“I was wasted. And she looked like you and I missed you and I miss you still! YN, you need to understand, I love you! And if you give me another chance, I won’t fuck it up.” Kuroo brushes a hair behind your cheek and your eyes widen at the contact. “I love you so much. Please don’t let this be the end of us.”
“...”
“YN, we’re meant to be. It can’t end here. Not for us.”
Kuroo was wrong, and so clearly mistaken. Months ago, you would have collapsed back into his arms. Months ago, you would have cried and muttered that you loved him too, that you still loved him.
But now….
Your eyes drifted past Kuroo, locking on a silent, dejected-looking Terushima.
You just didn’t.
“Kuroo, I can’t forgive you for what you did. I just can’t.” He shakes his head and opens his mouth to respond, but you smoothly press a finger against his lips and continue. “Even if I did, I could never trust you again.”
“YN, if you still love me, then that’s the only reason you need to take me back. I will work every day to regain your trust, no matter how long it takes. I’ll never hurt you again. God, I love you so much, just please, please don’t let us end here.”
Your relationship with Kuroo ended months ago. You both were just struggling to accept that.
“No, Kuroo. No.”
His eyes close and his head hangs, allowing his remaining tears to dribble down his cheeks. “Okay,” he finally whispers, voice silent and cracking. Then he tips his head up and presses a long kiss to your forehead, his final goodbye.
“I love you, YN.”
“I know, Tetsurou.”
Somehow he finds it in himself to smile bitterly at you saying his name, and he nods in thankfulness.
With a deep sigh, he releases you and steps back, scanning over you one last time before turning away with tear-stained cheeks.
You had loved him for so long. He was your first everything, your high school sweetheart, and much like him, you thought Kuroo was it for you. Your happy ending.
You were wrong. And deep down, you were glad you were wrong.
Kuroo halts in his stance on the sidewalk, just barely passing Terushima before he slams his hand down on the blond’s shoulder and grips it tightly.
“Don’t-” he cuts himself off to purse his lips. “Don’t hurt her like I did. Don’t let this one go.”
The skin under Terushima’s eye twitches before he glances up at your face. “I won’t. I’m not stupid enough to make that mistake.”
Kuroo smiles bitterly and releases your roommate, walking away down the street and never looking back.
~~~
A day passed, and you avoided Terushima like the plague.
After seeing Kuroo once again, it reminded you of why you hadn’t ever tried moving on since the breakup even once.
You had gotten so attached, fallen so deeply so quickly, only to be replaced for another woman for one night. You couldn’t handle that again. The pain of feeling so easily replaceable wasn’t worth the risk.
At least, that’s what you used to think.
“YN.”
Terushima finally snagged your wrist just in time after hours of trying to stop you. You shivered in his grip, almost horrified with how eerily similar it was.
“Please stop avoiding me.” Terushima stared at your face with natural puppy dog eyes, and after much internal scolding, you just couldn’t resist.
“I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay. But can we at least talk about it?”
“It” was a lot more complex than it sounded. “It” was a commitment. “It” was a major change in your life. “It” was… was….
“Yeah.” “It” was accepting you might be hurt again, but trying it anyway for love.
Terushima led you to the couch and sat you down to face him, even though your gaze was locked on everything else.
“YN.”
“...”
“YN.”
“...”
“YN, please look at me,” Terushima pleaded, palming your cheek and urging you to make eye contact. When you did was when the walls broke down.
The sparks his touch left against your skin weren’t right. Because why did they feel so right?
You loved Kuroo. Some part of you always would, along with the memories you two shared. So surely falling for someone this soon, this hard was wrong, right?
“Yuuji.”
“Just… let me speak first, okay?” Terushima dropped his hand to your criss-crossed lap, running his fingers along your kneecap nervously. Tingles erupted from the contact, and fuck, they felt so right.
You nod and his lips quirk up gently. “YN, I know you’re probably still stuck on… umm, y’know, that guy, but I also know you must be feeling something for me too.”
If he had said it any other way, you would have smacked him for the cockiness of the words. But the slight nervousness that tinged his tone made you love it all the more.
“A-and I know that you two were like,” he rolls his eyes, “perfect for each other, but I mean come on, there’s something between us too.”
There was. Even Kuroo had seen it, as blinded by love as he was.
“But I know why you’re reluctant too. And YN,” he shakes his head hopelessly and caresses your lower thigh, keeping his gaze locked on yours, “I don’t know how else to show you, but I’m not that guy anymore. Ever since you moved in, I haven’t been able to stop thinking about you.”
“Yuuji….”
“No other woman has made me feel the way you do,” he whispers. “And that thought kind of scares me. But I… I just can’t have anyone else. So I’m not gonna let you go.”
You cup one side of his face with your hand and your heart stutters when he leans into the hold. Throughout all of his speech, a small grin had etched onto your face, which was nothing compared to the beaming you felt inside you.
Waves upon waves of adrenaline, elation, and anything akin to utter euphoria lit up your chest. A zoo stomped and trampled over the tiny butterflies in your stomach as you let out a small giggle. Terushima’s eyes widened at the sound and he instantly tried to pull away, but you swiftly smack your other hand on the other side of his face, effectively trapping him.
He looks down and drags his fingers away from your lap reluctantly. “Why are you laughing?”
You almost felt bad, but oh fuck you were so happy! You just couldn’t help it as you let out another chuckle, causing Terushima to struggle in your grip like a floppy fish.
“YN-”
You finally shut him up with a kiss, pressing your smiling, giddy lips against his. So much joy bursts through your chest at the contact, and your heart flutters when the blond groans and tightly grabs at your hips.
He can feel your uncontrollable smiling and laughing against his mouth, and he can’t help but pull away with a confused-- but relieved-- chuckle. “Why are you laughing?”
“I just, hehe, I just can’t…” you trail off in snickers before yanking Terushima closer, wrapping your arms around his neck and hugging him while you attempt to stop your cackles against his collarbone. “FUCK!”
Terushima scoffs in disbelief as he holds you against him tightly, baffled at your confusing actions. “What the hell is wrong with you?”
“I don’t know,” you laugh into his skin, tickling him a bit. You creep your hands into his hair and tug on the strands in an attempt to focus yourself on something more serious. It doesn’t work, but Terushima lets out a surprised moan.
“YN!”
“I’m sorry, I’m just,” you press an open-mouthed kiss against his neck, giggles finally slowing, “I’m really happy right now.”
A corner of the blond’s mouth lifts at the words and he presses you closer to his chest. “I’m happy too.” Then he tugs you far enough away that he can see your bright red face. “Now do you wanna feel my tongue piercing for real?”
He licks his bottom lip, displaying the enticing metal bar that lights the pit of your stomach on fire. Well, at least you weren’t laughing anymore.
“Fuck yes.”
aHhdhdh is it ok to request a angsty soulmate au with kenma 🥺 with the words "a soulmate who wasn't meant to be" basically bc u are able to see the red string of fate, and you knew u were destined for kenma, however he fell in love with another... 🥺🥺

Summary: You’ve been waiting for your soulmate your whole life. Preparing to go into high school, you’re excited for more opportunities to find your destined partner. But… then you find him. And his girlfriend.
A/N: Angst. Why angst? Cuz angst. Apparently y’all either want me to improve my angst skills, or you’re just obsessed with the genre altogether. Either way, I am really sorry this request is so late, and I hope it’s what you were looking for. Enjoy!

Your heart knew before you did. You were in the gaming aisle, stupidly deciding to buy a new game before the first day of school just to get ahead on your procrastination from the get-go.
Suddenly, your heart starts thumping like a herd of wild elephants as a wave of adrenaline hits you. You feel happy and excited all at once, but you have no clue why.
Then you see him.
A red string is wrapped around his thin, long pinkie while he browses through the games.
At least you had something in common.
The string trails on the ground all the way back to you and you can’t help but grin in excitement. He’s perfect, probably because he’s your soulmate.
Long, blond hair with black roots barely brush his shoulders and he’s almost drowning in a red sweatshirt. His face is blank, but your mind runs wild, imagining all of the ways you two could smile together, teaming up to play games or battling it out against each other. And judging by the name on his clothing, he goes to your school too!
Okay, I can do this. I can do this! I’ll just walk over to him and introduce myself!
You’ve always wanted to be one of those people who could say with pride that they wanted to choose who they were meant to be with. To have that much self-confidence that you could find someone to spend the rest of your life with must be quite the rush.
Sadly, you were an introvert. The red string of fate, connecting soulmate to soulmate was a blessing to you. You didn’t have to search for your perfect match, because he was right here, directly in front of you!
And you couldn’t wait to meet him.
Would it be awkward at first? Painfully silent after you introduced yourself? Or would he be a surprisingly good conversationalist?
You wanted to find out oh-so badly, but something was holding you back.
I’m scared.
What if he… doesn’t like you? What if he didn’t want a soulmate? What if… what if he had already found someone?
You shook your head at yourself.
No. He’s around my age. No one finds a replacement for their soulmate that early. I can do this!
Allowing a soft smile to grow on your face, you take a deep breath and set down the game you had been busying yourself with. Here we go. You swivel towards him, rolling your shoulders back and starting your stride.
Then you stop.
Then your heart stops.
Oh.
A girl has come up behind him, beaming as she taps his shoulder and waits for him to turn around. As he does so, she holds up a game that makes his entire face light up.
He looks… so happy.
He accepts the game shyly and mutters a thank you, ducking his flushed face after she presses a kiss to his cheek. Then she intertwines her fingers with his and swings their arms all the way to the checkout.
Oh.
You’d never seen a boy so smitten. Not even your parents or your grandparents ever looked that in love.
Your heart dropped to the pit of your stomach. Frozen in shock, you ignored the subtle tugging of the red string on your finger.
It didn’t matter how close he was. He would never be yours.
You were playing a game that someone had already won. Running a race in which someone was already hugging the trophy.
Oh.
~~~
The next day, you woke up feeling empty. No, not empty.
Filled with anguish and pain. God, how you wish you felt empty.
Feeling nothing would feel so much better than feeling all of this.
But life moves on, and never turns back to see those who are being dragged along in the dust.
So you slip out of bed, completely emotionless. You brush your teeth, slip on the uniform, brush your hair.
At a certain moment, you’re not even thinking. You’re just doing.
But no matter how much you do, deep down you know nothing’s going to change.
In the blink of an eye, you’re sitting in your new classroom. People chatter around you, filled with liveliness and excited for the new year. But you’re just there.
Your gaze is locked outside the window where two birds are building a nest in an oak tree. A third bird will fly by occasionally, but the same two never stop what they’re doing. They’ll be together forever. The nest is already built, and the third bird can’t stop it.
There’s nothing the bird can do.
“Oh.”
The telltale metal screeching of a chair signals that someone has taken the seat next to yours. That person’s breathing has grown faster and more frequently stuttering.
A finger taps your shoulder, dragging you out of your daze. But it zaps you with the electricity of the first touch.
You strain to hold back a whimper. It’s him. Reluctantly, you swing your body around to meet his face.
Yeah. It’s still him.
God, fuck! It’s still him.
The blond boy keeps switching his gaze between the string wrapped around your pinkie and your blank face.
“Did you need something?”
The words slip out involuntarily, bitter and spat with distaste. But the implication is taken all wrong. You don’t sound like someone who’s discovered their soulmate is in love with someone else.
No, you sound like the average, impatient student, reluctantly attending high school but wishing to just go back home.
The boy takes it this way, and you can tell deep down he wonders if you’ve noticed the string.
Maybe… maybe you could use this to your advantage. Maybe this could be how you handle the situation. Sure, one day you might regret it, but right now, this could be the only way to live with the pain.
“Can…” he trails off and glances away shyly. His voice is soft and warm, like a gentle melody to your ears. This is gonna suck. Then he holds up his hand to your gaze, displaying the string on his pinkie. “Can you see this?”
Of course I can. It’s a sign that you’re my soulmate. That you’re the one I’m meant to be with. You’re the guy that’s supposed to be perfect for me. The one that’s supposed to love me forever.
You want to hurt him. Make him feel the pain you felt yesterday. You want to be petty and slap him with the facts that he was hurting you by being with someone else. You wanted to hurt him with the fact of How fucking could you? How could you be with someone who wasn’t your soulmate? Why are you so cruel?
“Uh, yeah…? It’s called a hand. I have a couple of those myself.”
But you can’t. You couldn’t bring yourself to do it.
“Oh.” The word falls from his lips with confusion. The boy stares at the string around his pinkie with furrowed brows and you turn your face when he glances back up at you. “Okay. Sorry for disturbing you.”
“It’s fine.”
No, it’s not. But you shrug and say it is anyway.
Your heart twinges with every passing second and self-deprecating thoughts filter through your head.
“Kenma!” Shoes slap against the floor as a girl runs in your direction. A girl slides between your desk and his, creating a barrier in more ways than one.
“Hey.”
“Babe, I took your sweatshirt again. I hope you don’t mind.”
“No, it’s fine.”
It sounded more than fine. And when a skirt barely covering a butt slowly grows closer to your face as she dips down and kisses him, you can’t help but resent your existence.
“I’ll see you at lunch babe.”
“All right.”
He sounds flustered but content, and when you take a peek at him out of the corner of your eye, you can’t help but sigh.
Your soulmate looks happy. “Kenma” looks happy. Maybe you could be okay with that. You just wish you had been given a chance.
But maybe you two, as soulmates, weren’t meant to be.
What a useless red string this is.
You loved him.
You loved him so much.
But you knew what was happening too.
He was drifting away from you, bit by bit. Every day, he seemed a little more out of it with you. A little less passionate with his words. A little less adoring with his eyes.
They were filled with more guilt than anything.
Every time you kissed him, told him you loved him, hugged him after a long day, his responses always seemed a bit slower than the time before. He was slipping through your fingertips day by day, but you didn’t want to lose him.
It started with a kiss, as it always does.
Akaashi’s team won the game, and after lining up to shake the other team’s hand, Akaashi’s eyes skimmed the crowd. You were smiling and cheering and waving at him, but they didn’t reach you.
No, instead they stopped on another. She was beautiful too. Her hair looked softer than yours. Her legs were longer, more slim and toned. Her large eyes were enchanting as well, even you yourself could understand how one could get lost in them.
You didn’t know her name, all you knew was the pain that stabbed through your heart. Every beat seemed to drain you of life.
Oh.
Then Akaashi’s eyes finally drifted to you in the crowd, and the blue orbs were pouring with guilt as you made your way down to him.
Like normal, you hugged him and smiled, muttering a congratulations. But it was all lifeless and soft. He knew you had seen it, and his face seemed to twitch nervously.
Akaashi was always composed and calm, so maybe that was how he recovered from the shock so quickly. His hands soon cupped your cheeks, and a gentle, loving smile soon encompassed his face, causing you to instinctively relax and return the gesture.
He leaned in and pressed his lips to yours.
Oh God.
It hurt so much to feel how little passion was in it. By definition, it was a kiss, but you knew it was so much more. It was a brush of lips, so light and compulsory, like an obligation to keep up a lie.
“I love you.” The words tickled your lips thanks to his proximity. His thumbs caressed the tips of your cheeks gently while he leaned his forehead against yours and stared into your doting gaze.
“I love you too.”
~~~
A rose sat on your desk in your room. Homework laid forgotten underneath it, and you hugged your knees to your chest and wept.
Your eyes hadn’t left the flower once. Like Akaashi, it was beautiful, gentle and soft. But thorns ran along the stem like vicious pricks of reality.
He was the one who had given it to you too. After all, it was Valentine’s Day. But where was he?
Doing homework, stuck at practice with Bokuto, spending time with his family. Any number of the excuses he had texted you in the past few days.
God, I love him so much.
Of course you didn’t want to. Who wanted to be in love with a cheater?
With an outstretched hand, you shakily picked up the rose, careful to avoid the thorns. One pricked you anyways, no matter how much you thought you avoided it, but you only whimpered at the pain. You didn’t drop the rose.
You held it closer to your face, finding small waves of comfort in its flowery scent. The rose was alluring, spirals of petals enticing you to come closer, to embrace the soft touch of each blood red petal.
But at the end of the day, it was just a rose.
Your phone buzzed, but it was just one of your friends in a group chat. No, nobody was talking to you personally. Your boyfriend was somewhere else, with only the physical, basic show of affection left in your hands to remind you of him.
The screen lit up your dim bedroom and stung your bloodshot eyes. And the background picture came clearer as the notification finally faded.
It was you and Akaashi. You were draped over his shoulders with a large smile on your face, beaming like the sun. His eyes were rolling at the dramatic act, but a hint of a grin was displayed through an upturned corner of the mouth. Adoring. That’s what he was.
Was.
Gulping, you grasped the phone in one hand and opened it, entering your photos. All of it was there. Pictures from the beginning of your relationship all the way to the end were in albums, dating back a year.
You clicked on the very first one that held him.
Akaashi was holding a sign, his cheeks burning bright red. One of his arms was draped around your shoulders, and your own were wrapped around his waist in a tight hug. His gaze was locked on you, but you were smiling brightly at the camera. He had asked you to prom, and you distantly remember your first dance.
“You look gorgeous.”
You hadn’t felt like you did until that moment. Until that beautiful man himself looked you in the eyes and truthfully told you how captivating you were. Nobody had ever told you that before….
Pluck.
Tears trailed slowly down your cheeks as you slowly dropped the petal into the trash can beside you. Knees wobbling, you relocated to your bed and sat criss-crossed on the mattress. You set your phone in your lap and held the rose in your hands.
The bedroom was cold. You almost shivered, your tank top and sleeping shorts barely keeping you warm, but it almost didn’t bother you. At least, you weren’t distracted by it.
Your phone screen lit up your whole room with another picture as you swiped your finger along.
Akaashi was pecking your cheek while you hugged him tightly after winning a volleyball game.
Pluck.
Akaashi was kissing you in the rain after your one month anniversary. A new necklace glittered around your neck, the one currently sitting at the bottom of your trash bin.
Pluck.
Akaashi was trapping you tightly against his side, holding you under an umbrella and affectionately scolding you about not wearing warmer clothes. You were wearing his sweatshirt. The one that still sat in your closet, waiting to be washed even though you cherished the scent it held.
Pluck.
Akaashi was staring at you in amazement as you stepped down the stairs in a floor length dress. Heels made your legs seem endless, and they only appeared every couple steps thanks to a sultry cut on one side of the skirt. “I don’t deserve you, angel” he had mumbled against your lips.
Pluck.
Akaashi.
Pluck.
Akaashi.
Pluck.
Pluck.
Pluck.

Maroon petals littered your bed. You tossed the bare rose stem into the trash can, now only consisting of green thorns.
Your cheeks were damp and your eyes felt heavy and tired.
I loved him so much.
You only had one thing left to do.
You: We need to talk.

uhh hi again 😅 im sorry for requesting again hdhd but is it ok to request another akaash papercrane au? where him and the reader are friends and akaashi believed that if he folds a thousand paper cranes the reader who is sick would get better but in the end when his wish came true his life was taken in exchange for his wish.
*GIF not mine*
Summary: A thousand paper cranes led to one wish. Or at least that’s what the legend said. Akaashi never wanted or even minded if it was true. At least, not until you came along.
A/N: I’m just out here wondering why y’all wanna be hurt. Like wtf. Anyways, this bitch angsty. Like I seriously hope y’all cry at this, bc boy did I want to. So like, pls feel free to tell me if you did cry, bc then I would feel accomplished. Aight, hope y’all enjoy!
Word count: 3725
There was a… legend, of sorts.
If any one person could fold one thousand paper cranes, he or she would be granted a wish.
Akaashi had heard this story from his grandmother at a young age, and since then scoffed at the idea. What’s a wish gonna do? And why would he need one?
He never truly believed in fate, destiny, or any other mystical mumbo jumbos. At least not until he met you.
~~~
The swings are the loneliest place on the playground. Only one person can enjoy the ride at the time. If you have someone to push you, you only have a split second every time you swing back toward them to talk or laugh or enjoy each other’s companies.
Akaashi found himself there often. He was the quietest kid in his kindergarten class, and though his appearance did make him popular in crowds, he preferred the solitude of the swings.
The swings didn’t expect him to be funny. They didn’t expect him to be smart. They didn’t expect him to be perfect.
“Hey, can I swing with you?”
The swings didn’t- wait, what?
Akaashi slowed his back-and-forth swaying, lowering his dusty tennis shoes to the bark of the ground to observe who had spoken.
It was a girl. A girl he had seen in his class often. The rays of the sun glimmered in her eyes, making them seem magical and kind. Her hands were folded behind her back shyly, and she scuffed the toe of her plastic sandal against her other heel while awaiting his answer.
Being confronted by his classmates was nothing new. All the time they came up to him and chattered like mindless lemmings. But Akaashi couldn’t help but gape at this girl in shock.
She was the first person to ask.
“S-sure.”
The young girl gave him a wide smile and crashed down into the swing beside his, already propelling herself to and fro with a kick of her feet.
A feeling awoke inside Akaashi in that moment. Competition.
Quickly, he bent and locked out his knees, trying to catch up to your pace though you were quite a bit ahead. You giggled and squealed when he swung ahead of you, and cheered victoriously when you blew past him.
Breathless. That’s how he felt. There was a glow in his chest, and suddenly he understood why so many other kids enjoyed being around their fellow classmates.
Having a friend who enjoyed the same things as him was fun.
~~~
“YN!” Akaashi groaned, grimacing at the sight of you dancing victoriously above him.
“Look at all this money, Keiji!” You threw the Monopoly dollars in the air, waggling your hips and whooping. “How does it feel to SUCK?”
The black haired boy only folded his arms and pushed himself deeper amongst the blankets of the pillow fort. A pout carved onto his face when you began rubbing the fake bills against your cheeks. “Ahh, to be a millionaire. By the way, how’s your bankruptcy?”
“Shush, you,” he sulked, grabbing a stray pillow and tossing it at your head. You only dodged and laughed, crashing onto the floor beside him with a large oof.
“Ahh c’mon, you know you love me twerp,” you poked the side of his cheek as you laid on your back with a grin.
Shaking his head, Akaashi turned his face the other way and hid a small smile. “I can’t believe you were my first friend.”
“Only ‘cause you sucked at swinging too.”
“How does one suck at swinging?”
“I don’t know! How do-”
“Kids!” Akaashi’s mother interrupted, peeking her head into the fort with a quirk of her lips. “You better get to sleep. It’s almost ten.”
“Okay, Mom,” the boy nodded, discreetly jabbing your stomach as soon as she disappeared outside once more.
“OW!” you squealed, ruffling his hair in return.
The living room grew silent as you both settled in to sleep five minutes later. The excitement had calmed down, and now Akaashi was huddled in a blanket just a few inches away from your own.
His heart raced at the idea, and many thoughts flitted through his head. One being…
“Hey YN?”
You fake snored loudly and Akaashi scoffed, pulling a lock of your hair.
“Geez dude, why you always gotta hurt me?” You rolled over, incidentally getting even closer to your friend, and opened your eyes to face him. Akaashi was almost choking at the proximity.
With a purse of his lips, he lifted himself on one elbow and scratched the back of his neck. He avidly avoided your gaze as his cheeks tinged pink. “Sorry, I just….”
You raised a brow. “Yeah…?”
“We’re gonna stay friends, right? Even when we go to middle school? And even high school?”
Akaashi held his breath while you tapped your cheek thoughtfully. “Well, I was actually kinda hoping I could replace you with Godzilla once we got there, but if that doesn’t work out, then I guess so,” you shrugged.
He rolled his eyes and licked his lips. “Come on, I’m being serious.”
“I am too.”
“Come on.”
“All right, all right!” You lifted your hand out from under your blanket and poked him in the cheek once again, a new, nervous habit of yours. “Of course, stupid. We’re gonna be best friends forever. I promise.”
You held out your pinkie with a grin, and Akaashi stared at it hesitantly.
“Forever?”
You nodded, and he gave in, interlocking his last finger with your smaller one.
“Yeah, Keiji. Forever.”
~~~
Volleyball became a huge part of Akaashi’s life in middle school, and even on into high school.
“Hey, hey, hey Akaashi! Pass it to me!”
But not once did your friendship stray.
“It’s yours, Bokuto!”
Every few seconds, he caught a glimpse of you in the stands. A large grin adorned your face, and you held a personalized sign just for him that you waved frantically any time he scored a point.
“GO AKAASHI!!!” Your voice, almost impeded by the overall clamor and volume of the gymnasium, was still fine-tuned in his ears. They perked at the cheer like the first melody of a bird on a bright morning.
A quirk of his lips accompanied the call, and he had to shake his head to stay focused on the game.
Block this guy’s spike.
Send the set directly above the net so Bokuto can get a cross-court shot.
Where’s Konoha?
I better send this one to-
His never ending train of thoughts faltered for a second at the sound of a collective gasp. Nothing amazing had happened on the court, at least not from his point of view. So something must’ve happened in the crowd.
Hollers and cheers shifted to low, concerned murmurs.
The team on the other side of the net watched the audience in complete shock.
What is…
Akaashi turned around with a crease in his brow and instinctively searched for you.
You were gone.
Nostrils flaring, he slipped under the net to the other side of the court for a better vantage point. The sight shot his heart to pieces.
There, on the second level of the gym, collapsed against the plastic bleachers, was your unconscious form.
~~~
The fluorescent lights on the ceiling of the hospital buzzed almost silently. And yet, for as long as Akaashi had been there, it was the only sound he could hear.
He stood outside your room like a guard dog, keeping his gaze locked on you at all times.
Through the glass windows of your room, he watched as your parents hugged you with tear-stained cheeks. You, on the other hand, were emotionless. Your eyes were unfocused, and you didn’t seem to be tuned into reality at the moment.
A half an hour passed. Your parents finally let him into the room, and he stepped in almost unwillingly.
“Mom, Dad, can… umm… can we have a moment alone?”
Your mom almost screeched in denial, but your father swiftly nodded and grabbed her hand, tugging her out of the room. “Of course, sweetie.”
As soon as the door clicked shut behind them, Akaashi gnawed on his bottom lip nervously. “So….”
You seemed to snap out of it and turned to him with blank eyes. Your form was slumped back against the pillows of the hospital bed and you fiddled with the white cotton blanket. A thin, white nightgown covered your body, but it seemed to tremble every few seconds. Or maybe that was you. “Keiji.”
He took the cue and scurried to your bedside, grabbing your IV-plugged hand in his own. The pads of his fingers ran over your skin in a comforting manner, but he wasn’t exactly sure if it was helping any. “YN… what-”
“The doctor said I have like a year.” You sounded so distant, locked away deep inside yourself. Almost confused at what was happening, but you also knew your fate.
Akaashi couldn’t breathe. His eyes watered and his brows furrowed and he almost grew angry at your dismissive state. But he couldn’t be mad at you. It wasn’t your fault.
“What,” he shakily whispered, whole body rigid, “YN, what happened?”
“I don’t know,” your voice cracked, and suddenly the facade fell. Or maybe reality finally set in. “They said I’m sick or something and it’s incurable and I’m going to die! Oh God, I’m going to die, Keiji!” You wailed and bawled and cried as much as you could, and Akaashi let his tears flow too.
“I don’t wanna die!”
Akaashi nodded, grimacing and clenching his eyes closed while he sat on your bed and hugged you.
“Please, I don’t wanna die!”
Your body convulsed in his grasp as you heaved out sobs, afraid of something you couldn’t fight. This was a battle no one could win. This was fate.
Akaashi cursed under his breath as he rocked you back and forth, running a hand through your tangled strands before whispering soft reassurances to your deaf ears.
You began to cough and hiccup, shoving your face deeper into his soaked shoulder.
Nothing could be said. Nothing could be done.
The room was tense, filled with utter, uncontrolled fear.
Nothing could stop this.
“Please don’t let me die.”
Akaashi’s bloodshot eyes opened in the slightest as an idea hit him. He squeezed you tighter as your sobs slowed to whimpers, and shook his head. I won’t let that happen.
~~~
“Do you have an eight?”
“Go fish.”
“Fuck.”
“Do you have a king?”
“...No.”
“YN.”
“FINE!” You threw your cards down on the bed with a pout. Akaashi chuckled and gathered up the cards, giving you a smug glance.
“What is it you said to me when we were kids? ‘How does it feel to suck?’”
You stuck out your tongue and batted his teasing hands away before folding your arms. “Shut up,” you muttered.
The hospital room was becoming more and more your own. Flowers decorated the windowsill, a couple books sat on the nightstand, and you even had a few folded cranes of Akaashi’s on your headboard.
Months had passed, nine to be specific, since you got the diagnosis. Time was running out.
“Well, YN, I brought your homework.” Akaashi dug around in his bag before pulling out a stack of assignments. A bright yellow sticky note sat on the top with your name scribbled haphazardly.
“You know, Keiji, it’s funny you think I’d actually spend my time doing that instead of, oh I don’t know,” you playfully shrugged, “having fun the rest of my life.”
Akaashi gulped but forced his smile to remain steady on his face. For you.
“I think you should still do it, YN. It’ll keep you smart.”
“What smarts am I gonna need when I’m-”
“YN please.” Akaashi winced at your recent lax in self-respect. A muscle in his jaw irked at the thought, but his eyes stayed locked on the cranes just above your head.
You nodded and softened your gaze. “Sorry, Keiji.” You held out your hands and accepted the papers he handed you. “I’ll try my best on them.”
“Thank you. And don’t forget to use my notes,” Akaashi added.
“How could I,” you scoffed. “Half of ‘em are done in glitter pens.” The corner of Akaashi’s mouth quirked up at the thought.
“Only ‘cause I know you like them that way.” Akaashi leaned in to give you a hug, pressing a kiss to your hair that he knew you couldn’t feel. Your warmth, the warmth you filled his heart with, made him never want to leave. But he had to.
“All right, I have to go, but before I do,” Akaashi dug around in his bag for a second before locating his gift with a sparkle in his eyes. “Here.”
A blue paper crane was set in your palm, and his fingers brushed yours before he pulled them away. Your body wiggled in happiness at the new addition.
“Yay! Another one! How about I call this one…” you trailed off, tapping your chin in thought. Then you pointed your finger in the air in glee. “Perry! What do you think, Keiji?”
You reached up and set the crane along with the others while Akaashi nodded in agreement. “It’s perfect. I’ll see you tomorrow, YN.”
Just as Akaashi stepped away, you grabbed his hand and tugged it to gain his attention once again.
“What’s wrong?”
You scrutinized his face with narrowed eyes, reaching your hand up and brushing your fingers just above his cheeks. “Keiji?”
“Hmm?” His eyes were almost closed in bliss, enjoying every spark of exhilaration that came with your touch. He flinched when you patted his cheek roughly.
“Get some more sleep at night. You look like shit.”
Blue eyes flickering open, he covered your hand with his own and delivered a soft kiss to your palm. “Not in a million years.”
~~~
Everything around him was fuzzy and blurred. The room was so dim and warm. A wave of exhaustion hit him every two seconds, leaving his head reeling and his ears thumping.
And yet, he wouldn’t move.
No, not if he couldn’t help it.
Papercuts littered his fingers. Scraps and scraps of paper, all shapes, colors and sizes, laid out in front of him, along with one lone whiteboard and marker.
The sun was just beginning to rise outside his window, and birds began to stir in their nests.
Fuck, he was so tired. His body pleaded with him to close his eyes just once.
No.
Shuffling of parchment became his new white noise. The pads of his fingers were on fire with every fold and every crease.
Then he set the new crane behind him, uncapped the marker and drew a single tick mark.
“Eight-hundred and seventy-four,” he muttered with a sigh.
Another.
He grabbed a new page with sore, pained arms, resisting the urge to yawn and starting anew.
Fold. Crease. Fold. Crease. Fold.
“Eight-hundred and seventy-five.”
~~~
“Ughhh yesss,” you moaned, licking the sweet stickiness off your fingers. “It’s been too long since I’ve had ice cream.”
Akaashi smiled at the sight. Your face had glowed with pure joy when he showed up with your favorite flavor, and you had deadpanned “I love you.”
It was enough for him. He chuckled into his own bowl before swallowing another spoonful. “What, is the Jello not any good here?”
You flipped him off and continued downing your cold treat. “Next time they try to force that gelatinous shit down my throat, I’m just gonna hop out the window.”
“From the fourth floor?”
You shrugged. “Why not? I could make it! I’ve seen it in the movies, all you have to do is roll.”
Your dark haired friend scoffed at the thought. “Yes, please ‘roll.’ It will be much quicker travel than limping on two broken legs.”
You busted out laughing. “See? Now you get it!” Your face was frozen in pure joy as you held your ice cream.
This moment made it all worth it. You were beautiful. Completely happy and carefree for the first time in a year. Akaashi didn’t want you to worry anymore.
He would only hope that you could find someone to make you laugh like this again once he was gone. He didn’t want you to be alone like he had been before you. You were the light of his life. You made him discover a purpose for living, and you lead him through it. He would follow you to the ends of the Earth if need be. And now was the time to repay you.
His bag was empty this visit aside from a single slip of paper. It was blue, your favorite color. “It reminds me of your eyes, which are really hot, by the way,” you had said.
“I did my homework like you asked.” You nodded with complete self-assurance and even held up the assignment. “I might’ve gotten number three wrong though….”
“That’s okay.” Akaashi set down his bowl and stood up, approaching your bedside with slow, purposeful steps.
You were breathtaking at this angle. The sun shined just barely through your room’s window, and lit up your entire face with a single ray. It emphasized the natural glow of life you already had.
Yeah, he could do this. For you, he would do anything.
When he stopped at your bedside, you shifted under your blankets until your legs hung off the side of the mattress. Completely facing him, you threw him a questioning glance. “What’s up?”
“Can I kiss you?”
He had to at least try. If only once.
You stopped breathing and your heart stuttered in your chest. Akaashi could read it all over your flushed face that-- Thank God-- you felt the same way he did.
It was a mixture of euphoria and anxiousness that flooded his stomach when you nodded. A shy smile covered your face, and it grew larger the closer he leaned towards you. Then finally, your lips touched.
The kiss was soft and slow, with Akaashi’s hands landing on the bed around you to support himself. Your lips were plush and tasted like sugary sweetness, and he snatched up your chin the second you tried to pull away too soon.
This second kiss was more passionate, rushed and intoxicating. The fervor of it left you feeling light-headed and breathless. And loved. His lips smashed against your own in a desperation of showing how he felt. It was as if he was making up for lost time, or something opposite of that.
And then he pulled away, gasping for air and not regretting a thing. His hand slowly dropped from your chin and fell to your thigh, barely covered by the thin hospital gown. His fingertips, rougher than you remembered, gently massaged your skin, leaving you to sigh happily.
His forehead pressed against your own, and smiles were permanently etched on both your faces.
“I love you,” Akaashi finally whispered, eyes staring honestly into your own.
“I love you too,” you pecked his lips once more and he returned it with ease.
You stayed like that for so long, just enjoying the feeling and proximity of one another. The air was clear. You loved each other.
But now, one of you had to let go.
Akaashi pulled away slowly with one last peck. While you sat with affectionate eyes watching his every move, he dug in his bag and pulled out a slip of paper.
“You write me a letter or something?” you teased.
“This is better than any letter I could write you, love, trust me.” Akaashi threw you a soft smile before settling onto the bed beside you.
You watched in utter fascination as folded and pressed the paper with skilled fingers.
“Wow, Keiji, you’re so good at that!” You let a hand hover over his own and stop the process for a second. “How long have you been practicing?”
Akaashi froze in an instant, but quickly rolled his shoulders and relaxed his form, leaning himself closer to your presence. “Quite a while now, but I did it for you.”
You beamed at him, tears pricking your eyes. “Keiji….” With a small, disbelieving shake of your head, you pressed your lips to his own just one more time. This time as a thank you.
Then you urged him to continue with a slight wave of your hand.
And he did so.
Fold. Crease. Fold. Crease. Fold.
And at last, the final product. A single paper crane of gorgeous blue, just like his eyes.
“YN.”
“Hmm?”
Akaashi hands you the crane and stares deeply into your eyes. “I love you.”
“I love you too.”
“And I wish for your life to be spared. At the expense of my own.”
“What?” You giggle in confusion, growing more and more concerned as Akaashi’s eyes seem to flutter.
Then they close for one last time.
“Keiji?”
His body slumps back, falling like dead weight to the mattress of your hospital bed.
“Keiji?!”
You were afraid. So afraid.
“Keiji, what did you do?” you mumble breathlessly, wide eyes locked on him. On his body.
“WHAT DID YOU DO?!”
Gut-wrenching sobs tore through your chest, leaving your whole form trembling.
“KEIJI!” Your blood-curdling screams led crowds of nurses to your room, but they could never pull you away. You, keeled over Akaashi’s lifeless form, refused to move even an inch. You hugged him close, wailing and wailing against his unmoving chest. Incoherent moans scratch your throat as you rock him back and forth, whispering I love yous one last time.
The legend was uncomplicated, but so painfully real.
A thousand paper cranes. One wish.
And Akaashi’s wish was simple. A life for a life.
Him. For you.
Summary: Every letter he wrote you was useless now. After he cheated, they were filled with nothing but lies, and what was the point of keeping lies lying around? (Based on Hamilton song “Burn.”)
A/N: Requests are open :)! I’ve never watched Hamilton, so… let’s just hope this is what you wanted. BUT I DID MY RESEARCH. Now it’s not this whole Hamilton/Haikyuu rewrite, but I did take the gist of the song and write it for Akaashi, so I hope you like it! Enjoy!
When you had first met Akaashi, he had enchanted you. The way he spoke so eloquently, how he held himself so purposefully. His looks had struck you first, with black locks tussled so perfectly atop his head and gunmetal blue eyes that struck your heart.
He had bewitched you.
Since the day you met, it appeared you had captured his attention as well. He wrote you letters, and much like the way he delivered his words by mouth, he delivered them through pen potently.
Every paper you received filled you with euphoria. Seeing your name scripted in personalized swirls of his hand lit your love aflame. But it was the sentences, the paragraphs he crafted so passionately that kept you entranced.
“My angel, every second I spend away from you is a second of my life wasted.”
You felt the same.
“Unlike what others say, your love has strengthened me and filled me with purpose.”
You felt the same.
“My angel, we were meant to be. Every thought in my consciousness has been overtaken by the image of you.” You felt the same. “Bliss floods my heart when I receive mail graced with your devotion. I devour your every word like a man starved the longer we are apart. Please, my angel, send more to me. Each piece you send me fills the whole your parted presence has left. I am yours, and your cherishes will fuel me till the end of time.”
You felt the same. Or apparently you felt some way.
In the streets of your own town, on some random day, you began to feel like an outcast. People observed you with pity and sorrow.
“Poor girl.”
“What a shame.”
“No one deserves that.”
What were they talking about?
It didn’t take long for news to travel one step farther. Your friend enveloped you in a hug and rubbed your back soothingly after you had shown up on her doorstep in tears.
“I should have listened to you.”
She had warned you months ago to watch him, be careful around him. She had said that one day, he would hurt you, and she was right.
After months and months of letters exchanging affection and tenderness, Akaashi had broken your heart. He cheated with another woman and hadn’t even had the gall to tell you first.
No, you had to learn from others. People who barely even knew you told you that your relationship had fallen apart.
~~~
That night, Akaashi slipped into the house with a grimace. In search of you, he followed the sounds of a crackling fire and entered the living room. You were seated with your back to him, facing the chimney with your knees on the hardwood floor. Your entire form slumped as you settled back on your heels.
He hesitated to enter, instead clenching his jaw and standing in the doorway.
“Angel…”
“Don’t.”
Your voice was quiet and scratchy as you spat the word. From what he could see, your hands were laid out in your lap, holding something.
The flickering flames were the only thing lighting the dark room, hissing and battling each other to grow stronger. Silence overlaid the tense atmosphere, and Akaashi found himself unable to breathe. His hands twitched by his side, the hands that had touched another woman.
He wanted to hold you, comfort you if possible. But that wasn’t going to happen any time soon.
You heaved a sigh and lifted your head, previously dropped low, and stared into the burning heat. With all the composure you could muster, you unlatched the fireplace door and pulled it open, letting your eyes water at the increased light.
And then you threw one in. His first letter.
Akaashi inhaled swiftly at the sight but he didn’t move a muscle.
He had meant every word he had written in those letters. Things had just… gotten messy and grown to be too much at one point.
At least, that’s the excuse he told you.
“I don’t care,” you muttered in response, observing another letter with a snarl before feeding it to the crackling flames. The parchment was engulfed in seconds, and every sentence that had ever made your heart twinge scorched up with a tsss.
The pile of papers dwindled down to one, and you scanned it over for a split second.
“I will always be yours.”
It charred into smoky flakes just as quickly as the others.
You wiped away a wave of tears and closed the door to the chimney before smoothing out the skirt of your nightgown. Then you rose to your feet and closed your eyes, taking one long, deep breath.
The peace didn’t last long.
Your gaze flew open at the feeling of a hand settling on your shoulder.
“YN, I still love y-”
You threw off Akaashi’s grip and whipped around, giving him a fierce glare.
“I hope you burn in hell.”
His eyes dropped and his cheek twitched at the words.
After a few minutes, you could no longer stand the sight of him. Your heart ached to think that he could betray you in such a way. He said he was mine.
You wished you could forget it all. Not only what he had done, but everything before. The first kisses, the first touches, the first anything.
You wanted to forget the strong arms that had caressed you to sleep at night. You wanted to forget the long fingers that had combed through your hair. The soft smiles, only for you. The flicker in his eyes that spoke volumes. The tenderness of the lips that had kissed you, brushed over every inch of you.
Akaashi wasn’t yours anymore. And God how you wish that wasn’t true.
With a shake of your head, you made your way out of the living room, pausing only in the doorway to glance back at him.
He stood with his head hanging low, but, as if he felt the weight of it, he looked up to meet your gaze.
His eyes, pools of deep indigo with the occasional fleck of cyan, stared at you deeply. They glimmered with hope.
You wouldn’t be so cruel as to feed it.
You turned away with a trembling frown and continued on your trek up the stairs. Footsteps attempted to follow you to the bedroom, but you threw a halting hand over your shoulder and shook your head. The strides slowed to a stop behind you, and you could swear you heard a silent whine.
He was broken over what had happened too. But that didn’t mean you forgave him.
You couldn’t face him as you said it, but one half of your bed would be empty for a while.
“Sleep on the couch for now, Keiji.”
God, I hope he burns.
Can you please do a part 2 of Pumpkin Eater? With a fluffy ending please, this fic broke my heart 😅

“Identity theft is not a joke, J-”

“I broke it. It burnt my hand so I punched it. I predict in ten-”

The remote was taken from your loose grip and the television turned black.
“YN.”
“Hmm?”
“This needs to stop.”
“What does?”
Your friend sighed at the sight of you huddled deeply in a mountain of blankets. Dark circles hung like bags under your eyes, contrasting wildy with your ghostly pale face. Every muscle in your body ached with the slightest movement, too stiff from staying in one position for… three days? Four?
“You’ve been sitting on my couch and moping for a week.”
Oh, a week.
“You need to get up and move, or at least do something,” Christie groaned, throwing the blankets out of your reach and grabbing your hand. She gave it a gentle squeeze and softened her gaze. “I know it hurts, and it sucks.” Squeeze. “But maybe you should talk to him-”
“I am not talking to him!” you cry out, ripping your hand away and standing on numb legs. “Christie, he cheated on me. There’s no excuse for that!”
Her eyes widened in surprise and she nodded solemnly. “Okay, but let me show you something first.” Before you could ask, she stood and left the living room, disappearing into the hallway leading to the bedrooms.
To a certain degree, she was right. You needed to get back to it. For the past week, it felt like your life had been set on pause. Every restless hour of sleep you got was filled with memories and nightmares mingling in the most stomach-churning way. Each dream was just about identical. It was always Kuroo and some faceless woman, laughing at you and leaving you behind in a mess of tears and shame as they walked away.
You always woke up with a whimper and forced yourself to stay awake after, too afraid to feel that pain again.
Some days… you wondered if he felt the same ache as you. If he felt just as empty and lost. Like a piece of his own body, his own heart was missing. Did he… did he feel the same way?
Suddenly, Christie storms back into the room and drops an object on your lap. A phone. And with closer observation, you realize it’s your phone.
“Now, I am going out tonight and looking for a man at the club. If you want to join me, great. If you don’t…” she sighs and licks her red-shaded lips, “I guess that’s fine too.”
It’s only then you notice she is completely decked out. In a signature little black dress and ruby pumps, she looks ready to knock men out dead. Bronzer sparkles in the brightness of her apartment’s light fixture and mascara makes her eyes bulge in the most baiting way.
You, on the other hand, are a complete mess. You’re wearing a week-old sweatshirt (Kuroo’s), and very loose, tightly cinched sweatpants (also Kuroo’s). Each piece of clothing has an emphasis on the sweat, and the only thing glittering on your face is the sugar from your cinnamon donut, aka yesterday’s breakfast. You felt like a trash can, and you certainly had the appearance to match.
Christie smooths the skin-tight skirt of her dress down as much as possible before taking a seat beside you on the sofa and grabbing your shoulder. After she turns you to face her, she gives you a tight smile and pulls a Cheeto out of your hair, tossing it to the floor with a heavily disguised sneer. “YN, all I ask is that you don’t let this hold you back forever. Just,” she grabs the phone in your lap and presses it into your hand, “read and listen to the messages. Please. For me.”
She waits for your nod before standing up and grabbing her purse. With a flip of her straightened hair, she throws it over her shoulder and gives you a small smirk. “Now I might be coming back home later tonight, or I might not, we’ll see,” she winks. “But if I do, don’t expect us to be silent.” With one last giggle at your disgusted face, she disappears into the hall of her apartment building, slamming and locking the door behind her.
You watch the exit for a couple more seconds before glancing down at your phone. While heaving a sigh, you press the power button and clench your jaw in anticipation.
Shit.
~~~
99+ texts was the symbol on your message app, along with 65 missed calls. 58 of those were from Kuroo, and almost every single one held a voicemail. It was like he was trying to crank up your phone bill just to spite you.
After a much-needed shower, you were working your way through every one of them, listening and deleting in an incessant pattern. You rubbed the towel through your damp locks, drying them before trying to run a brush through it in a failed attempt at looking tamed. In the meantime, a message played in the background. Kuroo’s voice crackled through the speakers in a broken tone.
“YN… Kitten… I need you back-”
“Voicemail deleted.”
“Hey, it’s me again. Look, please call me back-”
“Voicemail deleted.”
“YN, I don’t care if I have to call you a million times, I’m going to win you back. I love you so much more than you realize. And I’m not gonna stop until you’re in my arms again Kitten. We’re meant to be-”
“Voicemail deleted.” You pulled your trembling finger away from the screen and choked back a sob. The brush clattered to the floor as you snapped up the phone and hugged it to your chest.
You shouldn’t have- Goddamnit!- you should not have let the message run on for that long. But it was just so nice to hear his voice claim that he loved you again. Loved you still.
But that’s all it was. A claim.
“Goddamnit,” you hiss under your breath, clenching your eyes closed as tears trickled down your cheeks. At a slow pace, you mosey your way out of the bathroom, dropping back onto the sofa and crying out the pain.
You wish it was as easy to get over some as they say, but the fact is that it’s not. You loved him, and-
Knock knock.
Shit, she’s back already?! You scrambled to your feet and tightened your robe around your bare form, approaching the door swiftly. You definitely did not want to stick around if Christie had brought home a male companion. That would just be… ick.
Knock knock. The person slammed their fist against the door harder this round, and you yelled back, “I’m coming, I’m coming.”
Whipping it open, you instantly slammed it shut once more at the sight.
Kuroo.
“YN!”
“Nope,” you shook your head, “fuck that.”
His fist bangs against the door once again, almost knocking it off its hinges.
“YN! Please let me see you!”
His voice sounded raw, like it was scraping past his throat with every syllable. You assumed yours sounded the same.
“Just open the door!”
“No!” you screamed back, evidently shocking Kuroo into silence. You stood in anticipation, waiting with your arms crossed for another retort, another plea. But nothing came.
Noises shifted outside in the hall, and you saw shadows moving under the door before the light was snuffed out completely. Kuroo’s back and skull made contact with the wood, echoing a dull thud as he settled into a seat on the floor directly outside the apartment.
“YN, please,” he muttered, quieter this time. As much as you hated him, you hated the sound of him sad even more. Seeing his presence today just reminded you that love doesn’t fade away after a relationship ends. At least not instantly.
You slumped to the carpeted floor too, sniffling and hugging your knees to your chest as you watched the entrance. Distractedly, you petted the fluffy fabric of your pure white robe as you waited. For what, you weren’t exactly sure.
Minutes passed, and all you could hear was the occasional snivel out in the hall. Your heart panged at how close he was. All your pain, all your suffering could be cured by a simple embrace of Kuroo’s. Your body and mind knew this, but your emotions refused to falter.
“Kuroo-”
“Tetsurou,” he corrected tightly.
You sighed deeply and continued, ignoring the swift beating of your heart. “Why did you do it?”
A long pause left you dropping your chin down to your knees, and Kuroo cleared his throat before responding in a croaky voice. “I… I don’t really know. I was wasted, and I should’ve never drank that much. And she looked like you. And I- God, I was an idiot. But she was nothing to me, meant nothing to me.” His head banged against the barrier before he kept going.
“YN, you need to know you’re the love of my life. You’re,” he huffed out a breath, and you could hear him adjust his position on the floor. “You’re it for me. I can’t function without you. For the last week, I haven’t slept more than an hour, or eaten or anything. I just… please, I need you by my side.”
Not in a million years would you ever admit it, but you felt the same. Like you needed him to think straight, to help you focus, to keep you grounded. He was the one for you too. You just didn’t understand why he did what he did.
“I don’t know if I can trust you again.” You struggled to keep your words steady, and dug your fingernails into your knees when they cracked up at the end.
“I’ll work to gain back your trust, YN, God I swear I will. I just need you to give me another chance. I’ll never hurt you again, ever.”
Tears streamed down your cheeks, but you pushed yourself up to your feet and approached the door anyway. It was the only wall you had left between you and him. He had broken down every other, and this was your last layer of protection.
With your hand on the doorknob, you hesitated to open it. You didn’t want to be hurt again. Never. You never thought he would betray you like that. You thought he loved you just as much as you loved him. You couldn’t even think about being with another man.
So that’s why you pulled your hand away.
~~~
Four hours had gone by. You figured Kuroo had gone home a while ago, and you had settled onto the couch, forcing yourself to laugh at a comedian’s stand up just to feel better. A hot chocolate steamed in your hand as you curled up in a blanket, trying to erase the pain in your heart.
Footsteps clicked outside. Stilettos. Then whispers occurred. You sighed at the inevitability of getting kicked out so Christie could get it on with her new friend, but then she knocked.
“Hey YN, you mind getting the door for me?” Her voice didn’t slur in the slightest. In fact, she didn’t even sound buzzed. Shaking away your suspicion, you rose and opened it for her, keeping your gaze locked on the television to wait for the comedian’s punchline.
“Christie, did you even drink while-” You were cut off by the feeling of someone’s long, strong arms embracing you.
The sensation was too familiar to be her. It was tight and warm and loving and comforting. It sprung tears in your eyes and washed a wave of uncontrolled contentment over you.
“Kuroo,” you choked out. Said man’s arms tightened around you.
“Don’t,” he whispered, his low volume muffled against your neck. “Please don’t call me that.”
“Tetsurou,” you breathe out, “you were out there that whole time?”
He chuckled bitterly and brushed his lips over your bare shoulder. “I love you. Fuck, I love you so much. I would do anything for you.”
You snorted lightly into his own shoulder, running your hands up and down his back comfortingly. You enjoyed the feeling of him. You missed it. “I love you too.” Lips curling into a grin, Kuroo leaned back and began to pepper your face in kisses at the words. Then his hands crept up to the back of your head and tugged you closer, slamming you against him in a passionate kiss.
You both moaned at the feeling. It had been too long, way too long since you had been with each other.
When a loud clearing of a throat sounded, you pulled away, giggling when Kuroo tried to follow you. Your forehead pressed against his and you both stared deeply into each other’s eyes, watching with adoring gazes.
“I missed you.”
“I missed you too.”
“Yeah, that’s great and all,” Christie chimed in, “but can y’all move in together again? YN, I don’t know if you noticed, but you made my place look like a rat’s nest.” You snapped away from Kuroo in a split second and glanced around the room. You finally had enough clarity to take in your surroundings and- shit- she was right.
Blankets and wrappers and clothing were thrown haphazardly around the room. With a nervous giggle, you shrugged and gestured to the sight. “Umm, sorry?”
“Yeah, yeah,” Christie scoffs with a smile before tossing you your backpack. “Just get outta my sight, lovebirds.”
Kuroo unraveled himself from you and intertwined his hand with yours. “She’s right,” he mutters, nuzzling his nose against your ear. “Let’s go home.”
You nodded and gave Christie a grateful nod before waving goodbye.
In minutes, you were downstairs and outside, walking home in the chilly, midnight air.
“Shit, it’s cold out,” you whined, huddling closer to Kuroo’s side.
“Maybe it’s cause you’re only in a robe,” he snickers. Your eyes widen in realization before you glance down and shriek.
“Shit,” you swivel around and lock your eyes on the apartment building, “we gotta go back to Christie’s!”
An arm winds around your waist and halts you mid-journey, tugging you closer to a nice source of heat. “Oh hell no,” Kuroo shakes his head before throwing a hand under your knees. In one swift movement, you’re up off the ground, being carried bridal style in the opposite direction. “We’re going home. I finally have you back, and I’m not gonna spend another second without you in my arms.”

Summary: Across the hall lived Oikawa, a smug womanizer who never knew how to confront his one-night stands after their five minutes of fame. To avoid confrontation, he repeatedly seeks refuge in your apartment, or in his case, in your bed. But what happens when you start to grow feelings for this amorous neighbor of yours?
A/N: (It’s not five am! Yay me!) This is an au prompt called “You live across the hall and you hide in my apartment when you want to avoid your one-night stands” I got from this list. My god, I wanted this to be so much better than it actually was. If even a single person likes this, I will be eternally grateful. I sincerely hope you guys like this one!
Word count: 5678
Your apartment complex was filled with… a different kind of people. The tenants below you, one ginger and one blunet, bickered like no other. Meanwhile, the renters above you, one with a buzzcut and one with black hair and a bleached tuft, constantly watched and fawned over Next Top Model. It was all weird, but the most curious one of all was the man who lived across from you.
He was a womanizer with no sense of personal space, and constantly holed up in your apartment to wait out his one-night stands. Over the months, you two became friends, and while you repeatedly offered to let him hide and rest in your spare bedroom, he never seemed to appreciate the offer. Instead, he had a tenacious habit of crawling into your bed space and wrapping his arms around you with the claim that he couldn’t sleep without cuddling something. No matter how many pillows you chucked at him, you seemed to be his most favorite teddy bear.
Tonight was no different, and your heart fluttered when he pulled you tighter into his chest. He had woken you up instantly, and he was lucky that you were too tired to be pissed off by the act.
“Oikawa,” you mumble lazily, rubbing the tiredness away from your eyes, “you know I only gave you that key for emergencies, right?”
“But this is an emergency, YN. The girls never leave unless I’m not there when they wake up.”
“Then maybe you should stop hooking up with random women.”
“I don’t see the issue.”
“Mhm,” you hum, rolling over in his embrace and yawning in his face. He gags at the smell and you smirk. “You know there’s a perfectly good couch for you to sleep on, right?”
“It’s extremely uncomfortable, I can’t stand that thing. I don’t know why you bought it.”
“Okay, then what about my spare room?”
“I’ve slept in there too! And trust me, nothing is more comfortable than this bed right-” Oikawa’s ranting is cut off by a frantic knock on your door. With a sigh, you nod your head towards the hall of your apartment and raise a brow.
“Is that tonight’s expedition?” He gives you a bashful smile.
“Possibly.” Rolling your eyes, you scramble out of your bed and trudge out of your room. The banging is about to rip your door right off its hinges. As it shivers from the force, Oikawa trails timidly behind you and peeks over your shoulder at the sight.
“What, did you bang a pro-wrestler or something?” You’re judging him so hard right now.
“Ugh, YN. So unfeminine. I don’t ‘bang,’ I make love.”
“To a rhino?” You watch with wide eyes as your front door trembles before approaching it slowly.
“Maybe.” Oikawa opts to cower behind the island in your kitchen, which is adjacent to the entrance of your apartment and in a perfect position for him to not be spotted.
“Wonderful,” you mutter, hesitantly placing a hand on the knob and opening the barricade to the beast. “Can I help you?” you ask, plastering on a fake smile.
Your neighbor’s one-night stand looks like she just stepped out of a magazine. With wavy blonde hair and long, tan legs, she seemed like the type to squash men under her designer stilettos and not bat an eye. Exactly his type.
“Yes, I’m looking for my… boyfriend Tooru,” she glances inside your apartment suspiciously, getting a little too close for comfort. “Have you seen him?”
“Umm, nope. Haven’t seen him.” You boredly blink at her and keep a hand on the door just in case she tries to barge inside.
“Well, if you do, could you tell him Sakura is looking for him?” She flashes you a dazzling smile that almost burns your irises.
“Sure.”
“Thanks! I’ll see you around!” Waving goodbye, she disappears inside the apartment across from yours, presumably to relocate her clothes from the night before.
“Not likely,” you mumble gruffly, slamming the door. You step into your kitchen only to find Oikawa casually eating a bowl of cereal on a stool at your counter. He shoots you an incredulous look.
“She didn’t see me, right?!”
“Oh no, of course not.” You snatch the breakfast away and munch on a bite of Cheerios. “Your girlfriend didn’t notice you stealing my food out in the open like a buttnugget.”
“I am not a ‘buttnugget’! And I’d prefer you not speak with your mouth full.” You stick your tongue out at him and he grimaces at the bits of chewed food still visible. “Nasty. Anyways, she’s not my girlfriend.”
“I guess you’re right,” you shrug, plopping onto a stool next to his, “she’s more like the love of your life.” You waggle your eyebrows at him and he scoffs while pushing your shoulder playfully.
“Not in a million years.” He rises from his seat and smoothly presses his ear to the door before checking the peephole. “Coast is clear. You should probably go back to bed, YN. Get some more of that beauty rest you so desperately need.”
“Bite me,” you grumble around a mouthful of cereal.
“I just might.” With a wink, he disappears out into the hall and back into his own home. The feeling of disappointment when he left wasn’t unknown to you, but you didn’t want to mull over it right now. Instead, you purse your lips and stand to wash the now-empty bowl, catching a glimpse of your clock on the way.
“Three a.m! What the fuck?!” Now that you know, the darkness outside your windows makes a lot more sense. Fortunately, it’s a Saturday, and it’s also not the first time Oikawa has required your help in fending off his nighttime companions. You’re used to it, but that doesn’t mean you don’t ream his ass about it every time you’re a little more conscious and awake.
“Goddamnit Oikawa.”

It happens again, and again, and again. And every time it does, your feelings for him grow just a bit more, weirdly enough. On those early mornings that you wake up to him sliding into your bed and winding himself around you, you can’t help but wish it was for an entirely different reason. Sadly, reality was that he was just trying to escape his nightly mistakes.
Some days, you rouse to the smell of bacon wafting into the room. Others, he slips in and out before you even stir, leaving only a couple pancakes and a thank you note in his wake.
It’s been more than a year of this. A year of your apartment being used as a hideout, and of you being used as snuggly aftercare. Finally, you’ve decided you’ve had enough. You made a plan to confess at Christmas while you exchange gifts.
“Oh wow!” You hold up the hand-written slip of paper with an amused smile. It had been packaged in several wrapped cardboard boxes, and you had spent twenty minutes removing and ripping open one after the other while Oikawa busted a gut. “A limited time coupon for one free booty call!” You shake your head with a small chortle while he snickers at the gift.
“I even laminated it.”
“Yes, yes you did,” you snort, flapping the “coupon” in the air. Holiday music plays softly in the background and you're both wrapped in blankets. A televised campfire crackles on the screen behind Oikawa, and the only thing brightening up your living room is the medium-sized, ornamented tree near the two of you, tinging the air with the scent of spruce and cinnamon.
“All right, I suppose I’ll save this for later.” You slip his gift under your thigh and hand him your own, in a red and green bag with tissue paper sticking out the top. “Now open mine!”
He smiles and digs his hand inside, crinkling around while he guesses, “Is it… a blanket?”
“Nope.”
“Is it… a t-shirt that says ‘I’m with stupid’?”
“No, you jerk!” You laugh and smack his knee. “Just open it!”
“If it’s worse than my gift, you totally owe me.”
“That’s literally not possible.” He gasps dramatically at you and finally pulls out the clothing. It’s a sweatshirt you had made especially for him. On the front was the logo for Boys’ Volleyball Nationals, and his eyes gleam in delight. Then he flips it around and reads the back.
“‘Number One Spectator’?!” He gawks at you in offense and you can’t hold back your giggles. While you crack up, he repeatedly glances between you and the sweatshirt with a pout.
“You totally owe me for this, YN!”
“I can’t! Oh, this is too good!” you guffaw, wiping tears away from your eyes. Suddenly, Oikawa tackles you to the floor, both hands beginning to attack your sides in a flurry of tickles.
“Oh shit!” you screech, twisting back and forth to try and escape. Your attempts are futile.
“Say you’re sorry!” One of his hands capture both of your wrists and hold them above your head so you couldn’t fight him.
“Never!” Your flabs ache while you wheeze out the occasional laugh.
“You’re so mean, YN!” He scolds with a wagging finger before instantly assaulting your exposed sides once more. “Just say your sorry!”
“Okay, okay! I’m sorry!” you cry out with a giggle, gulping in large amounts of air when he finally stops.
“You’re forgiven,” he nods with a lopsided grin, still holding your hands hostage. A long moment passes as you relax and catch your breath, his gaze never leaving your flushed face, but when you can finally think properly again, you realize the compromising position you both are in.
He’s straddling your hips, one pressed against each side while his face leers over your own. Never before have you noticed just how dark his brown eyes are, and you can’t help but spot the occasional gold fleck while you lose yourself in them. With a gulp, you rub your thighs together and lick your lips. The action instantly grabs his attention, and Oikawa tightens his grip on your wrists before slowly lowering himself closer to you. A small part of you wants to wait, wants to let your relationship grow stronger, but the rest of you yearns to live in the moment and enjoy it while you have the chance. You pick your side, and clasp your eyes shut to brace yourself. Then it happens.
There’s no explosions or fireworks like the books, but every single one of your nerves twinge with sparks. His lips are soft as they gently caress your own, taking their time to memorize the feeling. His brunet locks brush against your forehead and he carefully releases his hold on you, trailing his hands down to cup your cheeks while his tongue begs for entrance. Losing yourself in the moment, you allow it access, teasing and battling him for dominance with your own while you tenderly dig your fingers into his hair, combing and tugging on the strands as the kiss grows more heated. You separate for just a split second and Oikawa doesn’t stray far. In an instant, he’s biting and sucking on the smooth skin along your chin, using one arm to support himself over you while the other angles your head perfectly for his lips. Pain mingles with pleasure as his teeth graze and nip your delicate flesh.
“Tooru,” you whimper, and he grunts deeply in response. You yank on his tangled tufts harder, mewling his name repeatedly while he moves lower to leave love bites up and down your neck. He pecks the bruises soothingly and groans at the feeling of your hands pulling harshly in reaction to the sting.
“What do you want, YN?” He coos, words whispered against your skin. The sensation leaves you writhing beneath him.
“You.”

That night, the coupon was left forgotten on the floor, but its offer had been used.
The next day, you picked it up with a sniffle and dumped it into the trash while you gathered your clothes from around the living room. Like every other girl he had been with, he left during the middle of the night.
Unlike the mornings where you were shaken awake by him holding you close, you were all alone while viewing the sunrise through your blinds this time.
With puffy cheeks, you made yourself some instant coffee and downed it, ignoring the burn and the fresh numbness of your tongue now. You breathe out shakily and set the empty mug in the sink before preparing to take a shower. Every one of your movements was passively lifeless. Each footstep dragged against the floor, and every heartbeat in your chest pained you.
Under the scalding water, you scrubbed away the memory as best as you could, leaving your skin raw and aching, but you could still feel a semblance of his touch.
In the mirror, purple blemishes littered every inch of your body from your chin to your calves. The sight of them reminded you of what exactly had scared him off.
His head was buried in the back of your neck as he nibbled on the skin there. You sighed happily, reveling in the afterglow of your love-making while relaxing further into the bed. Ever so slowly, you trail a hand down to your hips and interlock your fingers with his own, leading him to peck your nape gently.
“I love you,” you confess quietly. It was the heat of the moment, and you couldn’t help yourself. His body tenses behind you and his hand squeezes yours tightly for just a second.
“Oh.” The word, if that’s what it was, doesn’t sink in, and you fall asleep with a small smile on your face, pressing your back against his chest comfortingly.
At the time, you didn’t know. You had finally been with the man you loved, and he didn’t return your feelings. You wanted to be angry, enraged, or vengeful, but you were just sad. Ashamed of yourself and what you had done the night before.
In the past, you thought you meant more to Oikawa than his one night stands. You had seen the fake smiles he put up around them, and they never compared to the authentic grins he gave you. He joked with you, opened up to you, spent time with you and always seemed to want you around. Oh, how wrong you were to believe he would feel the same.

Your employers weren't exactly okay with the fact that you had skipped about a month of work to wallow in self-pity, so they fired you. This unfortunate fact led you to search for a roommate, someone who could help you pay the rent while you job-hunted. You got an offer, and today he was moving in.
“YN?!” A familiar voice echoed from your apartment’s hallway, followed by a knocking on wood. “YN?!”
“Oikawa?” You hesitantly make eye contact with him while hauling your groceries up the stairs. He’s in front of your door surrounded by cardboard boxes, and his face looks flushed with distress.
“YN, are you moving out?!” It’s the first time he’s talked to you since he left, and you want to beat the crap out of him with the hope that it would quell the pain. It won’t work, you know that, but you figure it’d be worth a shot.
“No,” you clench your jaw and avoid his panicked gaze, “I got a new roommate.”
“Oh.” The look on his face falls, but so does every other emotion he had been displaying. Crossing his arms, he nods in understanding while observing the boxes of personal belongings around him. “That makes sense.”
“Yeah, so uh… I guess I don’t really have to tell you this, but you can’t really hide out in my spare room anymore,” you shift on your feet, “You know, if you wanted to.”
“Oh,” he repeats, and a muscle twitches in his jaw. “Okay.”
Awkward silence falls in the hallway, and you gulp while shifting awkwardly on the final stair to your apartment level.
“S-so,” he stutters before clearing his throat, “who’s your roommate?”
“Oh, his name is-” With perfect timing, your new roomie whips open the door to your home and grabs another cardboard box, completely dismissing the existence of the brunet across from him.
“Ushiwaka?!”
***
Your new roommate wasn’t exactly a bundle of fun. And for some reason, whenever he was caught in the hall with Oikawa, the latter would verbally attack him like a rat on a Cheeto. Somewhere in the back of your mind, you had a distant memory of your neighbor complaining about a man like Ushijima. You had both been on your couch, drinking wine and just talking about life when he suddenly grew angry at the memory of a man who “pissed him off like no other.”
In a way, you understood why; they were complete opposites. One was smug and social, while the other was more laid-back and reserved. Fate must have been on your side. Of course your new roommate would be the mortal enemy of the man who had broken your heart. Things were looking up, and it felt good to see Oikawa jealous, no matter how petty it sounded. You were heart-broken. Screw playing nice.
“Hey YN?” Ushijima’s deep voice boomed from within his bedroom. The sudden holler made you jump from where you had been reclining on your couch, binging a new Netflix series.
“Yeah?”
“Can you take out the trash today? I have to get to practice.”
“Sure, I got it.” After hopping off your sofa with a deep sigh, you plugged your nose with one hand and grabbed the trash bag in the kitchen with the other, kicking your way outside and into the hall.
“I’ll see you later snookums!” A feminine tone chimed from behind you.
“Heh, wonderful.” Oikawa. He must have a new lady friend. “Can’t wait, okay byeee!” His words were desperate and rushed as you pivoted to see him ushering a girl with her heels in her hands down the stairs. Wasn’t that… oh what’s her name… Sakura! When she disappears from his sight, he face palms and groans loudly.
“Still having trouble kicking ‘em to the curb?” you snort, rolling your eyes. While you throw your trash down the chute in the hall, Oikawa sighs.
“Umm sort of, actually. I just… I don’t know.” He sounds confused and broken. For some odd reason, you almost want to comfort him. “YN.” A hand drops on your shoulder and urges you to turn around. You do, and regrettably so.
His body language doesn’t show it, but deep in his eyes, there’s an emotion you desired from him weeks ago. No. “Things aren’t the same anymore. And I think I’ve figured out why.”
“No.”
“YN, please just let me explain.”
“No, Tooru!” His name slips from your lips before you can stop it. “You don’t get to do that!” Your heart is racing in an instant and his nostrils flare.
“YN, I love you!”
“I don’t care!”
A painfully long silence follows after your shout. The three words you’ve always wanted to hear from him echo in your head. He loves me. He loves me. Yes, but it didn’t matter. What he’s done… it was unforgivable. Leaving you like every other woman he’s been with. You thought you two were friends, that he wouldn’t treat you like that. But he did, and no matter how he felt now, he had to feel your pain.
“You… don’t care?” His lower lip trembles and his voice cracks. You quirk your mouth nervously and shake your head.
“Oikawa,” you mutter, “if you really loved me, why did you treat me like the rest?”
He stares at you for a while, frozen in shock. The hall grows ten times colder and suddenly it’s hard for you to breathe. You had to get out of there.
Spinning on your heel, you hurry back into your apartment, closing and locking the door just as you felt his fingertips reach and brush your elbow.
“YN! Wait!”
“YN? Are you okay?” Ushijima towers over your form, which had slumped to the ground against the wall. Tears prick your eyes, and you couldn’t remember the last time someone had asked you that question. He meant it too, there was a concern in his gaze you yearned for.
“No,” you croak out, using the door to help you stand with wobbling knees. The wood shivers beneath your hand from the pressure of Oikawa’s knocks. “No, I’m not.”
Desperately, your neighbor's voice still pleads outside, and Ushijima nods. “Okay, I’ll talk to him.” It’s the most words he’s said to you in a day, and they pang your heart.
“Thank you,” you mumble, trudging away from the door and collapsing back onto your couch.
“Of course.”
The door opens behind you, and the lock clicks after it whooshes shut. You hug your knees into your chest and let the tears fall.
He loves me.
“YN please!”
He loves me.
“She doesn’t want to talk to you. Please respect her wishes.”
He loves me.
“Oh, shut up you big oaf. I’m not gonna let you keep her from me! I won’t let you stop me again!”
He loves me.
You breathe out a shaky sigh as the voices finally quiet. Wrapping a blanket around yourself, you fall into a dreamless sleep on the couch, stained cheeks and all.
***
Another week passes. Ushijima has been talking you through the pain, but he’s also made you see reason.
“YN, he can be a pain, but I don’t think you should give up like this.” Was that really what happened? Did you give up?
“Doesn’t he deserve it?”
“Maybe, but I think he might be a person like me. I need time to sort my feelings out about things. Maybe he did too.”
His words shock you to the core. In all the time you’ve been thinking about your own feelings over what happened, Oikawa might’ve only started to understand his own. Okay, you got that. But then why did he sleep with more women afterwards?
“You might be right, but I still need time.”
“Okay.”
In a million years, you never thought a stoic man like Ushijima would become the one to help you understand other people’s minds. He himself seemed aloof, especially when you tried to thank him. “For what?” he would say, “I’m just proposing a theory.” The man didn’t have a single touchy-feely bone in his body, and you began to respect that. It didn’t mean you would confront Oikawa yet, but at least you were getting somewhere.
While you stew over what Ushijima had told you, you hear a racket from in the hall. Ushijima is at practice, so you have to leave the apartment for the first time since last Thursday.
“Hey Shittykawa! Open up!”
There’s a beefy man furiously smacking Oikawa’s door that intimidates the shit out of you. However, you’re obviously not his target, so you lightly set the baseball bat down that you had grabbed for self-defense.
“C’mon Loserkawa! Tell me what’s going on!”
“Umm,” you hesitantly pipe up. “Is everything okay?” While even though it involved your neighbor… you think, you still wondered if something bad was going on. Did something happen to Oikawa? Guilt struck your heart at the thought. Oh God, what if you never got to see him again?
“Yeah, I guess,” Beefcake replies gravely and gestures a thumb at your neighbor’s door. “My friend just hasn’t left his house in a while. Sorry if I disturbed you.”
“It’s okay.” You figure the muscle man has it handled and plan to return to your daily activities of job-searching and wallowing in misery, but he grabs your shoulder suddenly, causing you to flinch.
“Wait!” He looks over his shoulder at Oikawa’s door, then back to you and your apartment. A deduction has been formed. “Are you YN?” Uh oh.
“Umm, yeah? Who’s asking?”
“Well son of a bitch,” he grumbles with a snarl, brandishing a key from his pocket. After sticking it in the lock and shouldering open the door, the man drags you into Oikawa’s apartment, which looks like ground zero. Pillows and clothing are strewn everywhere. There’s a table flipped on its side and empty food containers are littered on the ground here and there. In the middle of it all, curled up in a ball and covered in a blanket is a tear-stained Oikawa. His eyes resemble that of a raccoon as he peels them away from the TV he had been watching from his perch on the couch.
It’s a soap opera… about two roommates falling in love. Holy shit, he’s broken.
“Goddamn, Shittykawa, it smells like someone died in here!” The man who tugged you in here waves his hand to disperse the aromatic funk, only to waft it into your face. You hold back a gag.
“Something did, Iwa.” He makes eye contact with you for a split second before glancing away. “My happiness.”
You can hear your heart break at the jab, but “Iwa” only scoffs.
“You big sissy,” he folds his arms and raises an unimpressed brow. “Just talk to her and fucking get over it. We’ve needed you at practice for a week now.” Iwa places a hand on your back and shoves you forward through the mess. It’s not a hard push, but it’s enough for you to get the idea.
“Call me when you’re done so I can let the team know you’re okay.” Beefcake begins to exit but halts himself with a hand on the door. “Don’t go dark like that ever again, okay Shittykawa? People worry about you, not just your love life. Let us know what’s going on,” he mumbles over his shoulder before disappearing into the hall.
When you turn back around, Oikawa is sniffling and wiping his nose while avoiding your gaze.
“So…” you trail off awkwardly, standing in the middle of his apartment like a clean lighthouse amongst a beach of crap.
“YN, I’m sorry.” Oikawa takes the initiative, but still refuses to look at you. “God, I’m so sorry for what I did. I knew it was a bad idea from the moment I left your bed.” His voice is absolutely ruined. It sounds like every word scrapes past his throat and rubs it raw. He sounds… broken.
You can hear your heartbeat in your ears as you struggle to breathe at a normal volume.
“I just,” he pauses to hide his face in his hands. “I just didn’t know what else to do. With you, yeah it felt different. God, of course it did. It felt amazing. But leaving after was the only thing I knew how to do, no matter what I felt.”
His words raise the hair on your arms, and you slowly walk around the random objects, taking your sweet time before you slump down onto the couch beside him.
“Okay,” you breathe out shakily, eyes also locking on the television. “I get that.” As you chew on the inside of your cheek, you can’t help your gaze straying to his hand. It’s twitching closer and closer to you and you grasp it slowly, interlocking your fingers like long before. His are cold, and in your peripheral vision you can see him smiling at you while you try to warm it up with both hands.
“But look,” you pull your legs up onto the couch and swivel to face him, grabbing his other hand and rubbing it in the process, “I’m gonna need a little time to trust you.”
“That’s okay!” He nods his head frantically and turns to face you as well, copying your position. “I can give you time!”
Your lips twitch at his excitement and you shyly glance down at your hands, but your eyes catch on something. The sweatshirt you got him for Christmas. He’s wearing it. Your breath hitches at the sight and Oikawa grows confused, following your gaze down to his clothing choice as well.
“Oh. Right.” He forces on a smug smirk. “It’s not that bad now that I’ve tried it on- oof.” You don’t hesitate to yank him into a hug across the couch. To be honest, you were surprised he had kept it. You had expected him to toss it just like you had done to his coupon. Although, to be fair, your gift had already been utilized.
With a sigh, you tuck your face into the crook of his neck and drag a hand up into his hair, combing through the tangled strands. Hesitantly, he wraps his arms around your back, then seems to gain a little courage as he suddenly squeezes you ten times harder than your ribs can handle. You don’t mind though.
“I’m sorry for what I said, too,” you whisper against his neck, pressing a kiss against his skin simply because of the convenience. “I love you.”
Oikawa freezes in your hold and digs his fingers into your back. “... I love you too.” You sigh happily into his collarbone, pecking his skin more and more as his breathing grows labored.
“YN.” He pulls away just enough that there is a minimal amount of space between your noses. His eyes bore into your own with utter seriousness as he rubs his hands up and down your back calmingly. “I need you to know that after that night, I haven’t been with anyone since.”
Abruptly, you pull away and snap your brows together. “Really?”
“Yes.”
“What about Sakura?”
“Who?” You roll your eyes.
“Sakura! The girl you pushed out of your apartment?” His eyes widen in realization and he leans back slightly.
“Oh crap, you’re right. She was a nutjob!” You scoff.
“So you did have sex with her.”
“No,” he shakes his head and stares deeply into your eyes so you knew he meant it. “I didn’t. She got ahold of me weeks after I stupidly gave her my number in the first place and I had to kick her out of my house after she barged in.”
“Oh really, snookums?” You sneer at him and he only chuckles.
“Yeah, buttnugget,” he smirks and bounces his forehead against yours lightly. “I mean it. She was an absolute whacknut, and I blocked her right after she left.”
“She was carrying her shoes.”
“You think I’m gonna let her track mud into my apartment?” You glance around with a disbelieving look and nod your head.
“Uh yeah.” Oikawa scoffs and gestures around the living room.
“Ok, this,” he points his fingers in emphasis, “was all your doing, sweetheart. Congratulations, you're the second person in the world to break me.”
“Second? Aw man, who beat me?” You snicker as he smacks your thigh, offended. Then his face darkens and your smirk falters at the sight.
“Is something going on between you and Ushiwaka?” The smirk regains its rightful place and you tug on Oikawa’s cheek teasingly.
“Aww, Tooru, are you jealous?” He bats your hand away and pouts at you.
“Of course! That emotionless bastard told me to stay away from you. Also, everybody knows roommates always fall for each other!” Your face scrunches up at the thought.
“Okay, who told you that?” He huffs and points at the TV.
“Sofia and George fell in love after like two weeks of knowing each other! I mean, yeah, he did put her mother in a coma, but that bitch deserved it!” Your eyes grow to the size of saucers at his theory and you don’t hesitate to click the television off before grabbing his hand and tugging him out of the apartment faster than he can say “telenovela.”
“What are you doing?”
“Bringing you back out into the real world, where stepmoms don’t poison their daughter-in-laws over a lost diamond.”
“They don’t?!”
***
The sun is shining, birds are chirping, and once again, thankfully, Oikawa is right by your- oh shit, he’s gone!
“Tooru?!” you call out in a panic, feeling around the empty mattress for any sign of where he may have gone. “Tooru?! You son of a bitch, I swear if you left again, I will kick your ass!”
“YN?” Oikawa peeks his head inside your bedroom, throwing you a confused look. “What are you yelling about?” Oops.
“I thought your bitch-ass left again.” Your husband rolls his eyes at you.
“Seriously, YN? It’s been five years, give it a rest will you?” You only stick out your tongue and roll out of bed before waddling over to him.
“Never.” You smile sweetly and kiss his cheek while he rubs circles on your stomach. With a shake of his head, he lazily returns your grin and lands a large smooch on your forehead before directing you into the kitchen.
“I was making you breakfast by the way.” He sets the plate down in front of you, and it’s a pleasant surprise to notice he’s shirtless and only wearing a “kiss the chef” apron over his glorious six pack. “Pancakes and hot sauce, just like your nasty, pregnancy-craving ass requested.”
“Mmm, delicious.” You rub your pregnant belly and lick your lips hungrily. “Just like baby Ushiwaka wanted.”
“I told you that joke isn't funny, YN!”
*GIF not mine*
Summary: Kuroo needs your help wooing the pain in the ass cheerleader that’s your lab partner. But what if Kuroo wasn’t actually trying to pursue her?
A/N: Fuck me, it’s five am, why am I still here. I’m tired af, but fuck it, I finally wrote 5k words. I hope y’all like it!
Word count: 5062
“YN YLN.”
“Here.”
Like your previous two years at Nekoma, you expected your final semesters to pass quickly and be relatively painless.
“Psst, hey Takahashi!” Sadly, your chemistry lab partner’s relentless pursuer made that expectation all but wishful thinking.
“Kuroo’s trying to get into your pants again,” you relay the message to her and roll your eyes when she releases a high-pitched giggle.
Sakura Takahashi was the bubbly captain of the cheer squad. Every day, she awoke with sunshine and rainbows outside her window. Every night, she was cuddled to sleep by a pack of kittens and puppies. Her constant happiness killed your vibe, especially when she would skip into the classroom with a smile brighter than your future and proceed to beg you for yesterday’s homework. She was also gorgeous, with legs for days and endlessly-flowing black hair. You used this to your advantage whenever bullies came around; she was a great distraction.
“Oh, isn’t he just so hot!” Takahashi sighs dreamily, biting her lip before glancing over at the bedheaded Casanova on your other side.
Tetsurou Kuroo was the captain of the boys’ volleyball club. If something had two legs and walked, you bet your ass he’s put his dick in it. He was a player with a signature smirk to match, and the last target on his fuck-it list for high school was your airhead lab partner.
You, on the other hand, were the unlucky wall that sat between their daily sexual tension. No matter how many times you begged Mr. Suzuki to switch partners, desks, or even planets, he wouldn’t let you move. You guessed, in some ways, he was also against the inevitable screwing of the two lovebirds.
“We will have a pop quiz tomorrow.” The class groans exasperatedly and the teacher nods along, “Yes, yes, I know. You’re all so busy with your jobs and your overtime and your wives and kids- oh wait,” he narrows his eyes at the class. “Don’t be such whiners. Study what we’ve gone over this week and you’ll do fine. Class dismissed.”
The bell rings like music to your ears, and you replace it with actual music in your ears, quickly snapping on your headphones and heading out for the day. One of the daily occurrences you’ve caught onto over the past few months is that Kuroo likes to flirt with Takahashi directly over your head. One time, he literally folded his arms on top of your head and leaned over to chat with her.
Kuroo was growing to be the bane of your high school existence.
Huffing a sigh, you scramble out of the class as fast as humanly possible, not wanting to hear even a lick of today’s banter. However, something seems different at the moment. Kuroo’s not stuck back in Mr. Suzuki’s room with his ass plopped on your desktop. Instead, he’s got a hand wrapped around your upper arm, halting you from a quick escape.
“What do you want?” you hiss, tugging yourself away and pulling your headphones down around your neck. He smirks at you and leans in closer to your face.
“I think you know exactly what I want.” Totally unphased, you blink at him once while pursing your lips. Suggestively, he waggles his eyebrows at you.
“Don’t you dare say it-”
“Takahashi.”
“Oh fuck me.”
“Just give me a time and place, baby.” While he simpers at you, you can only muster a snarl in return.
“Don’t call me that.”
“You got it, Kitten.”
Scoffing, you turn to walk away, but a hand snags your wrist and spins you right back. Kuroo’s smug look falters at the sight of your furious glare.
“Oh, for God’s sake!” You yank your hand out of his grip. “What do you want?” you seethe through your teeth.
“Like I said before, I want Takahashi,” he shrugs. You shake your head at him.
“My God, you are such a douche.”
“Oh c’mon YN, please?” He pouts and folds his hands pleadingly with well-executed puppy-dog eyes. You wonder how many girls that’s worked on before.
“Why should I help you?” With a deadpan look, you fold your arms indignantly.
“Because I know you’re a 4.0 student,” your lips quirk at this, “and I also know you suck at chemistry.” The trump card widens your eyes and you waver for just a second.
“Pshh, how do you know that?” Your recovery is about as smooth as sandpaper.
“Did you forget that you almost burned Suzuki’s eyebrows off in front of the whole class?” Eye twitching at the memory, you give in.
“Fine, what do you want me to do?”
“I thought you’d never ask.”
***
“I think sodium needs to go in there.”
“Okay.”
It’s the first day of your deal, and while you didn’t believe Kuroo at first when he said Takahashi was a stickler, you guessed you understood it now. After all, you had never seen them go any farther than words. Not that you wanted to see anything more, because gross.
In the end, Kuroo wanted to woo her like the sixties, and the first idea on his agenda was a classic.
“All right, now add a drop of water,” you instruct, watching carefully to make sure she doesn’t implode the entire school. A sudden jab in your side makes you choke on nothing and you glare over at your partner in crime.
‘Do it!’ he mouths, frantically waving at you to get a move on. Revenge is a priority to you, however, so you rear back and smack his arm with a glare. Satisfied at the awkward squawk that escapes his mouth, you swivel back to your lab monkey and brace for social discomfort.
“So, uh, Takahashi, do you like flowers?”
“What?” She shifts her gaze from the liquid-filled beakers to your face and flinches at the sight of your stiff, forced smile. You’re baring your teeth like a chimpanzee preparing to die, but Takahashi takes this in another direction. She’s a birdbrain, remember?
“Oh, YN, I’m sorry,” She smiles pityingly at you and pats your shoulder in what she believes is a comforting way. The sound of her acrylic nails scraping your uniform actually makes your skin crawl and you lean away from the touch, still smiling like a maniac. “I just don’t feel that way about you.”
A muffled cackle sounds from behind you while your face falls. “Oh,” you mutter, teeth gnawing against each other. “That’s not really what I meant-”
“It’s just that I’m kind of into guys.” She surveys your expression for any sign of a breakdown, but the only thing she spots is your nostrils flaring. Chuckles are still rumbling in the desk beside you.
“Yeah, Takahashi, that’s okay,” you emphasize with a nod and wide eyes. “Now what fucking flowers do you like?”
“Oh!” Like a child with toys, she is instantly distracted from the painful previous events. The bell rings while she taps her chin, and she lifts her bag over her shoulder while responding, “I quite like petunias!”
While she exits the classroom, you spin in your seat to face Romeo.
“She likes petunias.” You’re practically foaming at the mouth, and Kuroo’s cheeks are burning from his front row seat to the show.
“Well thanks for that.” He snickers and you flip him the bird while gathering your things. “Oh, and YN?”
“Hmm?”
He pushes in his chair before winking at you. “I would have paid to see that,” he whispers.
“Fucking perv!”

Two more weeks have passed of you being Kuroo’s sidekick in Operation: Smash and Dash and he keeps half-assing his part. Either that or he’s a shit teacher.
“Oh, come on YN, you aren’t that stupid. Surely you know the formula for…” his voice blends with the crickets chirping outside of his window as you zone out. Takahashi still acts the same with him, you still sit and stew in the middle of the pair, and Kuroo keeps begging you to help him get her. Nothing has changed, so what was the point of even trying to continue-
“YN!” Your teacher, “Mr. Kuroo” as the creep prefers to be called, snaps his fingers in front of your face. “Pay attention in class!” You lazily drag your eyes away from the moon and yawn in his direction. You’re laying flat on your stomach on his carpet and he sits across from you cross-legged with a finger incessantly tapping on your textbook.
“This isn’t a class, and you’re a terrible teacher, Kuroo.”
“Mr. Kuroo to you, Kitten.” He winks and pushes his glasses up his face before running a hand through his rat’s nest. Scoffing, you roll over and stare at his ceiling, only to get patted on the nose with a ruler.
“Ow,” you grumble, rubbing the injured area. “You’re an abusive teacher too.”
“Only to bad students.” His words cause a palpable shift. The atmosphere of the room suddenly grows ten times more intense and you trace your fingers on the ground nervously. Ever so slowly, Kuroo places two hands on either side of your head, effectively trapping you. He leans over you, and even though he’s upside down, his smirk still manages to take your breath away.
“Are you a bad student, Kitten?”
Oh, so that’s how he gets all the girls. Interesting.
You scoff abruptly and push his face away while he releases a surprised “mfphm!” Ignoring the heat that has blossomed on every inch of your body, you sit back up and pivot to confront him. The textbook between you is no longer forgotten as you snatch it up and point to a random page while avoiding his gaze.
“I don’t understand this.”
“I don’t understand you,” he grumbles under his breath, accepting the book and adjusting his glasses with a twitching jaw.
“Excuse me?”
“This problem’s easy,” he stares at you from above the rims, “I thought you were a good student?”
“I am smarter than you and your bloodline will ever be, dillweed.” With a huff, you cross your arms and avoid his sceptical gaze. “I just… don’t understand the question.”
“It’s simple chemistry!”
“Yeah, well I just don’t get it! I’m not familiar with this kind of chemistry….”
Kuroo’s eyes twinkle at your admission and he scoots just a tad closer. “Then I’ll just have to teach you.”
***
“YN!” Kuroo whisper-yells your name during the middle of notes and you choose to ignore him.
“Psst, YN!” He’s louder this round, capturing more pairs of eyes than your own. Luckily, you both sit in the back of the class so the teacher can barely hear you. The feeling of Takahashi’s gaze urges you to continue the ruse, and you bite your lip while squinting at the marked-up white board. This must be how your mom feels before she turns her radio down so she can “see the road.”
Sadly, your effort in focusing diminishes in an instant when your carefree cohort brandishes his weapon of choice: a pencil. As he prepares to land a devastating blow to your side, you seize the offender, accidentally brushing his hand during the event, and snap it in two before setting it back on his desk calmly.
Kuroo gawks at you in your peripheral vision before lightly muttering “Rude!”
“Hehe, loser,” you snicker before sticking your tongue out at him.
“YLN!” Mr. Suzuki places his hands on his hips as he shakes his head at you. “Please stop distracting Kuroo and Takahashi!”
“Sorry sir!” you nervously respond, hurriedly grabbing your own pencil and returning to your paper. The words still haunt you, as you have always hated being scolded by others. As they repeat like a chorus in your head, you finally catch on one name. Wait, Takahashi? With a gulp, you barely tilt your head to get a glimpse of your lab partner. Her jaw is clenched and her eyes are lit like an angered bonfire.
Woah, what’s up with her? You keep your gaze on her even as the bell chimes out, signalling the end of class. She seems unlike her usual self as she shoves her papers into her backpack before zipping it up and stomping out into the hall. Now that you think about it, she hasn’t asked for your homework in a while either…. I wonder if something happened-
“YN, finally you can pay attention to me now!” Kuroo slams his hands down on your desk and leers over you.
“Wow, sounds like you’re getting a little needy,” you relax back into your chair and cross your arms. “Didn’t know you liked me that much.”
“Neither did I.”
“What?”
“Anyways,” he waves his hands dismissivley, avoiding your eyes to take a seat at Takahashi’s desk, “I was thinking that since we already have to spend so much time together because you’re shit at school-”
“It’s just chemistry!” He places a hand over your mouth to stop your vexed screech.
“-I was thinking,” he continues, “you should become our team manager so you don’t have to walk over to my house all the time. It’s kinda dangerous, don’t you think?” Like anybody would, you lick his hand in an effort to drive him away, but he raises his eyebrows back, quirking up a corner of his mouth.
You sneer in disgust at his action before shoving his hand away. “Fucking perv.”
“I prefer to think of it as sexy, but back to the less-fun topic. What do you think?” There’s something unfamiliar about his face; it seems almost… apprehensive in a way. Shaking away the thought, you tap your chin contemplatively at his proposal.
“I mean, I guess that’s a good idea,” his eyes glimmer at your words and his knee starts to bounce, “Plus my mom would like how safe it is. Sure, I guess I could do that,” you shrug at last and Kuroo’s face lights up.
“Sounds good,” his voice is surprisingly nonchalant compared to his body language, “I’ll introduce you to the coaches and get this show on the road.”
“Sounds good,” you parrot, grabbing your bag before you’re suddenly smacked with a memory. “Hey wait!” You capture Kuroo’s rather muscular bicep in your grasp to stop him from leaving. As he looks at you, his eyes glimmer with something akin to mischief. “How are things going with Takahashi?”
His face falls and he glances down at your hand, which you swiftly pull away from his arm like he burned you.
“Sorry,” you mutter, shifting from side to side on your feet, “it’s just that I haven’t seen you two talk in a while. Did something happen?”
Kuroo’s nose wrinkles before he plasters a smirk on his face, casually settling a hand on his hip. “Nothing you need to worry about. Although, now that I think about it, I could use some more advice.” You smile in relief and nod your head. Even though you had initially hated the pair, Kuroo was slowly becoming your friend, and you were glad nothing had deterred him from his goal. It was still a goal that repulsed you, sure, but you wanted to help him. You wanted to keep helping him.
“Of course, what’s up?”
“What are some things that girls like to do on dates and stuff? You know, if you could try to think like a normal girl for a second.” Your jaw drops with a gasp while he bursts into a maniacal cackle, and you don’t hesitate to smack his chest harshly.
“You’re such a dick!”
“And you’re painful, oww!” Smiling victoriously at the sight of him rubbing his stomach, you ignore his pout in favor of placing your chin in your hand.
“I don’t really know, I guess. I kind of don’t have experience…” you trail off when you remember who you’re talking to. Kuroo glances up at you confused before he processes your words and his mouth forms an “o.”
“Aww, YN, am I gonna have to show you what a first date is like?” he simpers.
“No! Shut up! Just buy her more petunias and you’ll be fine!” You try to escape the room as fast as possible, but Kuroo’s lanky body blocks the exit, arms and legs both spread out to cover the area.
“Oh c’mon, I was just kidding,” he chuckles dismissively. “Now that I think about it, what flowers do you like?”
“Are there any flowers that you’re allergic to?”
“Ouch, gee YN you’re feisty today.” He waggles a finger at you. “I bet you’re more of a rose girl anyways. You seem like the type to….” You’ve mastered the skill of zoning out Kuroo’s incessant rambling as you observe him from multiple angles. You even squat down to see if you could wiggle out through his legs. Nope. Looks like it’s going to be a straight take down.
You take a few steps back and kick your feet like a bull. It’s your lucky day too; Kuroo’s wearing his red volleyball jacket, and he makes a perfect target. His mouth is still chattering nonstop, but you can tell his face is growing more and more confused at your reaction. Finally, when you feel like you’ve revved up enough, you make your move.
“Chargeeee!”
Kuroo falls to the ground in the hallway with an “oof” and you land on top of him, one leg on either side of his torso.
“What the hell, Kitten?!” The nickname slips out in the heat of the moment but you don’t bother to correct him. Instead, you pat the side of his face and clamber off him, not hesitating to use his sturdy chest as a boost onto your feet. You're still towering over him, and Kuroo’s face flushes at a certain display you're giving him. You haven’t even noticed; you’re still pounding on your chest like a gorilla while hooting nonsensically to celebrate your triumph.
“Umm, YN?”
“I’m pretty sure that’s what rugby is like.”
“Hey Kitten.”
“I would be amazing at that sport, let’s be honest.” You step away and off to the side, only to peer down curiously at a tomato-themed Kuroo whose eyes are completely unfocused.
“Umm, did I tackle you too hard?” You wave a hand in front of his face, but he doesn’t move a muscle. “Hey Rooster, did I break you?”
“YN?”
“Yeah?”
“You do know you’re wearing a skirt, right?” You chuckle.
“Umm yeah, Kuroo, they’re kind of mandatory.”
“Oh good, I’m just making sure you’re fully aware of what just happened.” Your forehead creases as you tug him up onto his feet.
“What do you mean? I just took you out like a pro-footballer, what are you talking about?”
“Nothing, Kitten,” he sniggers, ruffling your hair before you bat his hand away. “I’ll talk to the coaches about letting you manage, okay?”
“Okay,” you nod, still confused, “just be sure to get checked for a concussion too. You’re acting weird.”
“Aye aye, captain.” He mockingly salutes with a smug smile before walking away. Those words, however, they were… familiar.
Oh shit. You gasp in horror. “You saw my Spongebob underwear?!”
“Aww, don’t be one of those girls, YN,” he calls out, discreetly speeding up his strides, “They’re called panties.”
“You sick fuck!”
***
You never realized how often Kuroo practiced until you became the volleyball manager. It was every night, and more often than not, you got tired just watching them.
“Five more laps, boys!”
However, you did have to admit Kuroo was noticeably different during these times. He was less of a womanizer and more of a leader, and you couldn’t help but wonder if any girls he had been with had seen this side of him. In this way, he seemed more redeemable, more worth knowing.
“YN, can you grab us some waters?” Just as whiny, though.
You were still attempting to get used to the feeling of being called upon like a waitress every two minutes. The sweaty boys asked for this and that, and you missed the days when you had first met them. Weeks ago, they used to fall at your feet and offer to do everything for you. It felt good to be the center of attention, although apparently Kuroo gave them a stern talking to at some point, and now they don’t even dare to speak to you. Shame.
“Hey, Kitten,” the captain jogged over to you, slowly wiping the sweat off his face with a towel you instinctively tossed him the minute he approached. “We’re finished up now, are you ready to go?”
“Oh, sorry Tetsu, I guess I forgot to tell you,” you wave away his offer and smile apologetically, “I’m actually going out with someone tonight, so we can take the night off chemistry. You’re off the hook for the day.” Honestly, you expected him to be pleased. He seemed to get more frustrated with you recently, even though you were understanding more and more of the topics in the textbook. But his reaction was… explosive, to say the least.
“What?! Who the fuck asked you out?! Who?!” With narrowed eyes, he scrutinized your face with folded, bulky arms. You flinch at his sudden outburst, and so does the rest of the team. Throwing a reassuring smile their way, you pull Kuroo over into an emptier corner of the gym to discuss the matter privately.
“Hey, crazy, calm it. It’s not a date date, it’s just a hang out,” you shrug.
“With who?” he growls.
You raise a brow at the act before rolling your eyes. “My God, Tetsurou, I’m just going to hang out with Takahashi! She said she wanted to talk about something-”
“No!” He instantly grabs you by your shoulders at the words. “Don’t go. You can’t talk to her.”
“Why not?” His overreactions are concerning you, and you slowly peel off his grip before asking, “Did something happen between you two?”
“No! Never!”
“Never? Do you still need help?”
“No!” He exclaims once more and you give him a look that tells him to shut his piehole just a bit. With a huff, he nods in understanding and lowers his tone. “No, I don’t really need your help anymore. Not with her.”
“Oh,” your face falls and you bite your lip, “So does that mean we can’t hang out anymore?”
“No!”
“Is that your favorite word?”
“N-” he cuts himself off in a scoff before shaking his head at you. “No,” he snickers, “it’s not, Kitten. Just, be careful with Takahashi, all right?”
“Okay dad.” You roll your eyes.
“It’s Daddy to you, Kitten.”
“Shut up, you perv!” You smack his chest with a giggle and he chuckles along with you. Glancing at the clock on the wall, you huff at the time and murmur, “Hey, I have to go. I’ll see you tomorrow.” He nods with a solemn smile.
“All right, Kitten-”
“YN.”
“-Kitten, be careful.” For the first time in your life, you see Kuroo hug someone. And it’s you. His slim but powerful arms wrap around your waist and he tugs you into his warm, sweaty chest, ducking his head into your neck and sniffing your hair. You would say it’s weird, but you regrettably do the same.
“Ok, Tetsu, I gotta be honest. I like this, but you smell.” Your phone buzzes in your back pocket just as he pulls away with a cackle. Smiling at him, you grab it and see Takahashi’s name on the front.
“Hello?” you answer, stepping away from him with one finger held up as you wait for a response.
“You’re late, so I guess I’ll just have to skip out on the whole fake hang out thing.”
“Takahashi? Are you okay?”
“I’m perfectly fine, YN,” her voice is lower than normal, the bubbly, cheery tone is completely nonexistent. “I just wanted you to know that Kuroo and I slept together, so you should probably stop trying to flirt with him from now on.”
Your face falls at her words, and Kuroo mouths a concerned question at you. You don’t dare to decipher it; instead, you turn away and face the wall.
“Is that right?” you mutter, your own tone lifeless.
“You better believe it sweetheart, so just give up. We’re going to become a couple soon, just you watch. Especially at the assembly tomorrow, when we walk together on the stage.”
“Oh yeah?”
“Yep, and those loving looks he gave you during class? Newsflash, YN, those were for me, you were just in the way-” You hang up with pursed lips and peel your phone away from your ear, staring at it blankly.
“Kitten, are you okay?”
Your chest feels empty, and your heartbeat slows in your upset.
“YN?”
“How long?” You turn around and drag your eyes up your form to face him.
“Excuse me?” Kuroo steps closer and you let him, but he doesn’t move to touch you.
“How long have you been leading me on?”
“I don’t-”
“How long have you been sleeping with Takahashi?” You felt like you just got cheated on, even though you had offered earlier to help him with her. You guessed, in some strange way, you hoped it was never really her you were helping him woo.
You were wrong.
Kuroo’s eyes widen at your question, but he quickly tames himself, taking a deep breath and licking his lips.
“It was just one time.” God, it was true. “Before I asked for your help.”
“Wait, what?” You stumble back a step and stare up at him perplexedly.
“I thought,” he sighs once more, “I thought that if I asked for your help and hanged around you enough that she would get the gist and leave me alone like the others. But she didn’t. She just kept calling me.”
“So… you used me?” You were hurt, but in a whole different way now. Your heart stuttered at his confession, but now it panged with remorse.
“At first, yeah,” he nods, approaching you once more before looking into your eyes deeply. “But then, I guess at some point I just,” he takes one more deep breath to prepare himself for something, “I guess I just fell in love with you.”
Slapping your palm against your forehead, you scoff, “This is fucked up, Kuroo.”
“I know,” he nods in agreement. Against your better judgement, you pocket your phone and give him one last hug. The breath in his lungs forces its way out of him and you pull away before he can return it.
“I need time to think, okay?”
Shakily, he backs away and allows you the room to leave. “Okay.”
The doors whoosh closed after you exit and make your way home alone. Inside the darkened, locked up gym, Kuroo slowly picks up the stray volleyballs, not hesitating to hurl them at the wood panelling with loud grunts of fury while he finally takes out his frustration. After he runs out of ammo and his arm grows tired, he runs a hand through his wild tufts.
“Fucking shit. What am I gonna do, Kitten?”
***
The assembly was loud and cheerful. Nobody around you knew what went down inside that gym just a single day earlier. In the crowd of third years you were corralled in, you occasionally caught glimpses of the other volleyball boys your age, but no Kuroo. He was supposed to announce their victory, and their succession to state today. And the one to walk him up the stage was no other than Takahashi.
You’re dragged out of your self-deprecating, Rooster-filled thoughts by the sound of the principal clearing his throat in the microphone. It causes a loud whine that pierces your’s and everyone else’s eardrums, but you don’t have enough will to gasp and whimper like they do. Instead, your eyes lock on the pairs of people who have just arrived. One cheerleader to one sport captain, and at the end of the line is Kuroo, who is snarling and leaning away from Takahashi attached to his hip.
The sight makes your lips twitch, and your gaze seems to have an effect on him, because his head instantly whips around in search of something, only to lock on you as he smiles softly. You only nod back and take your seat in the bleachers along with the other third years.
Time passes slowly as you wait and wait for the assembly to end. You almost consider ditching just as Kuroo’s turn comes up, but his actions stop you. As soon as he strides up the stairs to the stage, he wriggles his arm out and away from Takahashi. Then, he plucks the microphone out of the flabbergasted principal’s hand and taps it twice.
“This thing’s on, right?” The principal nods, completely discombobulated by your Rooster.
“Sweet, okay. YN!” His eyes search the crowd of grouped third years as your name echoes around the gym. They brighten when he spots you once more and he swings around to face you. While you want to seem calm and collected, the number of eyes now locked on you leaves you a blushing mess.
“Hey Kitten,” he waggles his eyebrows cheekily while holding out his hand, “Will you be my girlfriend?” The crowd falls to a hush and an uncontrollable smile takes over your face.
“Well?” He moves his finger in a “come hither” motion with a wink, and it has you coming down the steps of the stands in a trance-like state, pushing past your fellow classmates and occasionally mumbling apologies. With a hop, you land on the gym floor and approach him as he does the same for you.
“What do I get out of it?” you ask with a smugly raised brow. Kuroo grins back at you deviously.
“I suppose I could help you with your chemistry homework,” he steps closer and leans into your face. “You know, ‘cause you suck at it.” You can’t help but snort and bite your lip. Then you whisper three words and pull him in for a kiss that has the crowd cheering.
“It’s a deal.”

Summary: You broke up with Bokuto for a good reason. At least, what you thought was a good reason. But right now you can’t help but miss him terribly, and according to Akaashi, he’s feeling the exact same. But did you really break him like his friend said?
A/N: Did y’all know Bokuto is 6’1”? God, he’s a fucking dreamboat. How some people don’t like his beefy ass, I will never know. I’m just gonna warn y’all now, this is only well-written bc I had my cat by my side literally the whole time I wrote this. He’s given off fuckin’ good-writing vibes, I swear. Anyways, hope y’all enjoy!
Word count: 2299
“Fix him.” You flinch as a palm slams down on your desk, crumpling your assignment. Unimpressed, you raise a brow.
“Excuse me?” With a glance --- Akaashi --- you huff and turn to face the intruder.
“Fix him. You broke him.”
“Broke who?”
“Bokuto!” Your classmate’s sudden outburst is unlike his usual, aloof self as he throws his hands in the air. “I can’t remember the last time he hit one of my sets after you talked to him.”
“Maybe that’s not my problem,” you snicker.
“Oh hardy har har.” He rolls his eyes before lowering himself to your level. “Just fix him. We have a game coming up and our team can’t handle another depressed Bokuto phase. We almost lost the last one because of him.”
You wanted to make another snide comment, but you couldn’t bring yourself to do it. After breaking up with your owl-haired boyfriend, every sighting of him, even the mention of his name pained your heart. One time, you had spotted him at the same time he noticed you in the hall and he only whimpered before sprinting in the opposite direction. Most of the time, you regretted ending things, but you had to respect your own feelings. Although maybe, just maybe this once you could do the boys’ volleyball team a solid.
“Fine,” you avoided his gaze and fiddled with your hands. “I’ll talk to him. But don’t expect it to make everything all sunshine and rainbows afterwards!”
“C’mon YN,” he smirks at you, “we both know that’ll be inevitable.”
That smug bastard was always right.
~~~
You attended their practice that night, attempting to sit in the corner discreetly but that plan didn’t pan out. The second Bokuto walked through the gym doors it was like he caught a whiff of your scent. Some kind of animal instincts inside of him awakened as his eyes darted around the room, quickly spotting you with your legs splayed out as you tapped away on your phone against the wall. Not a sound of acknowledgement was made, but the impact of your presence was instantaneous.
Like a true captain, he took charge of his team right off the bat, even though practice wouldn’t start for another twenty minutes.
“Time for stretching, boys!”
“Bokuto, nobody’s dressed yet.”
“Then hurry up!”
Every jump was a tad higher, every spike a tad harder, and near the middle of practice Akaashi gave you a pointed look.
‘I told you so,’ he mouthed while dodging a stray volleyball of Bokuto’s. Your middle finger was raring to go, but you held back with much personal restraint. There was no way your ex was this pumped only at the sight of you- oh wait, this is Bokuto. Nevermind.
“Akaashi, set me up one more time!” The ace’s eyes strayed to you for a split second before he ran up and jumped, rearing back and spiking the ball so intensely you shivered at the sound. How did it not pop after that? It was his hardest hit yet, and a miniscule ounce of pride warmed your chest when Bokuto turned and grinned at you.
“Hey, hey, hey!” he fist-pumped, returning his attention to his team. For the last thirty minutes of practice, they decided to work on serves, and the outcome was just the same.
The hair on the back of your neck raised as you watched his bulky form take a couple purposeful steps before smack! The ball whistled through the air and landed perfectly in the corner of the court, blasting the water bottle away like a rocket into a forgotten area of the gym. His signature shout was interrupted by a sudden voice by your side.
“He hasn’t been like this in weeks,” Akaashi squatted next to you, taking a sip from his water. “I don’t understand how you got him so hyped up, but I’m glad.” He glances away from the court and watches your face from the corner of his eye, flashing you a small smile. “I’m glad you came today. We needed this.”
“I just came to watch, nothing more.”
“We both know that’s a lie.” He quirks a brow at your slightly flushed face. “Just talk to him this time, okay? He’s not-”
“Akaashi!” Bokuto orders from the far benches, “Come set for me again!” His voice is more demanding than usual, and his eyes burn with jealousy. The setter only chuckles under his breath at the sight of the green-eyed monster, and stands to face him.
“I will,” you grab his hand to halt him and stare into his eyes, nodding with certainty, “I promise. I’ll talk to him.”
“AKAASHI!” You both jump at the abrupt, irritable shout. Frantically, the setter nods back at you and wriggles his hand out of your grasp before jogging away, visibly shaken. With a gulp, you dare to peek over at the court, only to nervously shift on the floor after making eye contact with Bokuto. His orbs, normally yellow and glowing with excitement, are dark and pouring with envy. Pursing your lips, you can’t help but slump a little lower against the gym wall, hesitantly trying to hide yourself from the palpable heat that rolls off him in waves.
~~~
Practice ended quicker and louder than you imagined. Everything the ball made contact with-- Bokuto’s hand, the floor, that one door that flew open after impact-- it all created a sound that boomed and echoed around the room. Akaashi decided to call it quits after the door almost blew off its hinges.
Bokuto silently picked up stray volleyballs and loaded them up in the basket before wheeling them into the storage room. It was around this time that the co-captain of the team gave you the signal. With about four or five frenzied head nods towards the private closet, you finally caught his drift and made your way over.
The stench of sweat made you nauseous, but you powered through as you walked nearer to the boys, ignoring how their chatter had subsided when you shuffled past them.
The room was dark and dusty, with the only light coming from the outside. Bokuto perked up at the sound of your tennis shoes squeaking against the mopped floor. He parks the bucket of balls in an unlit corner next to some brooms before facing you.
“You came today. I was surprised.” His voice is wobbly and uncertain, and you’re shocked to finally notice just how ruffled he appeared. The normally wild hair atop his head sat in drooping grey and black tufts, and there were dark circles under his eyes. He flashes a small smile at you, but it’s forced and trembling. He was coming off the high of you watching him practice just like the old days, and he’s regretablly remembering that the old days have passed. You broke up with him.
“Yeah, I did.” You sway back and forth on your feet while twiddling your thumbs. Pursing your lips, you take a hesitant step closer and say, “I thought you did great, by the way.”
The life returns to his eyes for a split second, but it disappears just as fast. “Thank you,” he mumbles. The room returns to a deafening silence, and you bite the inside of your cheek to pass the time.
“Why,” he pipes up once more, killing the quiet. “Why did we have to break up again?” His arms hang limply at his sides while his feet scuff the floor. He didn’t dare to look you in the eyes at the moment, and you understood the feeling. The atmosphere was tense and choked up, like a glass teetering precariously on the edge of a table. One wrong move and everything would shatter.
“Because,” you force out, breathing shakily, “you just… you just never had enough time for me.”
“But I do now!” The cup falls. Everything breaks.
“Do you?” you whimper, pressing a hand against your lips to contain a sob. He steps closer instinctively, eyes watering at the sight of your walls collapsing.
“I do, I swear!” His rough hands grab your shoulders and yank you closer. His golden orbs search your face one, two, three times before he leans closer. “I promise, YN! Please, I promise!” His strong fingers trail down and grasp your wrists, tugging you into his chest while he pulls your arms around his back, free of their own volition. You don’t deny his needs and melt into the embrace, shedding a few stray tears into his shirt which you clutch tightly.
“I promise,” he whispers once more into your hair, wrapping his own muscular arms around your shaky form. “I don’t want to be without you ever again.” His voice trembles against your ear, and you begin to notice just how much your body missed his own. You fit perfectly against his chest, and his warmth makes you feel just right. Your heart races in a good way, and the pit of your stomach fills with a joy only he can provide effortlessly. You were made for each other, and you were perfect for each other.
Oh shit… you were perfect for each other.
“Okay,” you whisper, nodding into his shirt. “Okay, let’s give it another shot.” The reaction is instantaneous.
“Hey, hey, hey!” he whoops victoriously into your ear, hugging just tight enough that the only sound you can muster is a wheeze. You hang on for dear life when he lifts you up and spins you around while cheering even louder.
The atmosphere of the room grows ten times softer and brighter thanks to his beaming, and his hands trail down to the backs of your thighs and tap twice. You understand and hop with complete faith that he will catch you, and you will continue to do that until he drops you one day, which is highly unlikely. In a seasoned fashion, you wrap your legs around his waist and wind your arms around his neck for stability. He settles his hands under the tips of your thighs and stares up at you like you’re the light of his life. You wouldn’t mind if he kept doing that forever.
“I missed you so much,” he admits, completely unashamed. You can’t contain your smile, even though your cheeks are a bit puffy from your breakdown earlier, and your eyes crease at the corners.
“I missed you too.”
“I won’t leave you alone ever again. I swear!” You giggle and run your hands behind his neck and into his nape, just barely brushing through his hair.
“Okay,” you nod happily and stroke his peppered tufts. “I’ll hold you to that.”
~~~
A body crashes into the desk next to yours, but you don’t pay it any mind.
“Whatcha doin’?” The voice is playful and overjoyed, ecstatic even.
“Homework.” Your response is the opposite.
“Awesome!” Bokuto cheers, grabbing the attention of the rest of the class. While you palm your face, he loudly scooches his chair closer, ignorant to the noisy squeaks it causes. The racket finally stops when he deems himself an appropriate distance from you, which just so happens to be a roomy six inches. The only thing more palpable than his presence is the warm breaths hitting your neck.
“It’s homework.”
“I know, but you’re doing it, so it must be amazing!” You didn’t know whether to smack him silly or kiss his lips off. Neither idea seemed more desirable at the moment.
He’s practically bouncing in his seat beside you while his head plops down onto your shoulder.
“I think x equals six,” he points down on your paper, chin bobbing on your collarbone with every syllable.
“X equals two.”
“Oh.”
His grin doesn’t falter even once while he basks in your less-than-satisfied presence. You’re about to blow your top, and you just can’t take it any longer.
“What are you doing here, Koutarou?”
“I’m spending more time with you like you wanted!” You sigh exasperatedly and glance up at the ceiling.
“Kou, I meant more like after-school stuff! This,” you turn in your seat and gesture to him, “you sneaking into my class to visit while my teacher’s in the bathroom?” You shake your head. “It’s a bit excessive.”
He throws you a whiny pout at puppy dog eyes.
“But I wanted to see you!” Your hardened exterior cracks just a bit. God, he was an irresistible, beefy pain in the ass. With a huff, you cup his cheeks and peer into his sparkling eyes.
“I know,” you smile reassuringly, “I wanted to see you too. But you need to go back before-”
“Bokuto!” Your teacher stands in the doorway with folded arms and a tapping shoe. “Please return to your classroom right now!” Your boyfriend chuckles at the sight and spins up out of his seat.
“Oops, gotta go babe!” He presses a swift kiss to your lips that rattles your brain and widens your eyes. With a breathless gasp, you watch as he dashes out of the room with a cheeky grin, waving excitedly on the way.
“At least he’s fixed now.” Akaashi reclaims his chair and sits at his desk beside yours, observing as the class door closes with a slam. The teacher shakes his head and rubs his temples while returning to the front of the class, shuffling a stack of papers.
You, on the other hand, are still in a daze, slowly running your fingers over your lips to revel in the lasting tingles. Then you break out into a smile.
“Yeah. He’s fixed now.”
