Where Every Scroll is a New Adventure
I like this side of the fandom
I totally get shipping naruto and sasuke. I see it, trust me.
Naruto and sasuke are such perfect foils and reflections and their bond is genuinely amazing.
Both were boys abused by the system. I hc the Uzumaki clan genocide was devastating and comparable to the uchiha clan. A storyline with both boys would have been fantastic.
But that never happened.
Naruto became a part of the system that murdered sasukes family. He helped cover up the genocide, he did nothing about the hyuga clan.
As someone who loves Sasuke I just really can't ship it, as sympathetic as I am to Naruto.
Obsessed with critical thinking đâ¤ď¸.
To me the most unrealistic thing in Naruto is that there aren't more rouge Uchiha's as side characters (not counting Obito, Sasuke, Madara and Itachi because I'm taking about non big villain kind of way rouge). Like they were mistreated by village, but obviously unhappy about it and powerful. There should have been way more of them running around.
the naruto fandom is the only fandom i know that will get mad at a genocide survivor for being enraged at the state for orchestrating the slaughter of his entire clan. not only that, but they made his fucking brother commit the heinous crime. western audiences are so simple minded and only know what the colors black and white are that not only do they actively think the uchiha genocide was rightfully justified to be carried out, but they also get mad at said sole clan survivor for rejecting his indoctrinated brotherâs path by not becoming the stateâs bootlicker like-
You know what? I'm just going to say it.
If Naruto's version of a "Changed Hyuuga Clan" involves Hiashi Hyuuga still being Clan Leader, a Child of the First Branch still being the Heir, and no actual Restorative Justice, then it's not a change that matters to me in any sense.
"Thanks, Naruto-kun for changing the Hyuuga" Hiashi says, smiling, not disgraced or on some kind of exhile of atonement, and I'm supposed to believe him about everything being different?!
Right!
Because Hiashi's version of 'different,' the one that he told his brother about, still involved his genius branch nephew dying for his main branch daughter with his goddamn seal etched on to his face for all to see.
I'm so tired of people commenting on (What) Should Have Been (Mine) saying "Hiashi PROMISED that NARUTO-SAMA CHANGED the Hyuuga! DXDX. You can't say he didn't!"
Talk is so cheap in Naruto, especially coming from these reformed villains like Hiashi and Orochimaru and all the Konoha Elders. Forgive me for not trusting my authority figures without concrete proof.
If you live and die the gospel of post-Kishimoto work, where Naruto can't break out of a genjutsu because Kurama for some reason decided to take a day off, hard-trained-for super strength is now an inheritable trait, and Boruto deserves to be called sunshine even though he's never suffered a day in his life and doesn't have to persist to be bright a propos of anything, fine.
It's content. Interpret it however you want.
But maybe don't read MY CLEARLY TAGGED WORK and make a fit because I'm making a moral criticism
Another random thought, but am I the only one who thought that after Iruka sensei got such an iconic character introduction into the franchise... that he would have somewhat of a bigger role in the manga?
I recognize that his role is that of Naruto's school teacher and that he graduates early on in the series, but I was always looking for more 'Iruka-supporting-Naruto' interactions and I feel like I was starved; especially considering how good each one that we DID get was. Iruka worrying about Naruto in the chuunin exams, him being the one to comfort him after Jiraiya's death, celebrating his homecoming, etc. etc. All great moments!
And of course, that early scene when he saves Naruto from Mizuki and just looks at him and goes, "Your loneliness must have been painful, right? I understand..." Goodness! It's the first time that Naruto felt his own humanity was recognized and recognized in a way that moved his teacher so much that he was willing to die to save him!
If you ask me, I think the reason Iruka didn't feature more is because he wouldn't have let half the people who treated Naruto badly (including Naruto himself) get away with it, and then Naruto would have been radicalized by the realization that the village was crap for treating him and all the other orphans so badly...
Random thought but I really liked how in the Original Naruto, all of the characters' forehead protectors were tied on - and by that I mean that they were each a single piece of cloth knotted, not a circle of fabric slipped over the body.
I liked the symbolism that Kishimoto was able to invoke when he had characters tying their head bands, or when their head bands slipped off in the heat of battle. It was all quite evocative in my opinion. It made for a lot of heated dialogue between Naruto and Sasuke, and even Sakura and Ino to a lesser extent. The scene where Sakura cuts her hair and her forehead protector flies off is a great one, plus the one where she and Ino both punch their protectors off. And of course the scene where Naruto looks at Sasuke's flung off forehead protector from when he tried to scratch his forehead after Sasuke said that there's no way Naruto would be able to land even a scratch on him, is iconic. And at the very end, the last battle, when Naruto's forehead protectors comes off too, it feels like they aren't shinobi anymore, they're just Naruto and Sasuke.
Aside from the asethetics of how without the ties, the forehead protectors look more like athletic headbands, I think it is sad that we won't get moments like that in Boruto where the characters have to contend with what it means to tie the protector around themselves and be Konoha shinobi. If you ask me, it speaks to how it's no longer important to consider how each character defines themselves in and out of the Konoha ninja framework, wearing or not wearing their forehead protector, in the Boruto universe.
Of course the tension in those scenes was also developed through much stronger character backgrounds which few (if any) Boruto new gen character has, but it seems strange to think the symbolic option is precluded entirely.
Sakura gripping sasukeâs shoulders so hard they creak before he enters the courtroom: do you have your flashcards. Do you remember your lines. Do we need to go over basic respect again. Are you sure I canât just transform into you and make your case myself
Sasuke: isnât that illegal
Sakura: oh so now you suddenly care about the law?
Sasuke:
Sakura: ..yes it is but that law was made when the Uchiha ran the police and could tell with their sharringan. Not like anyoneâs gonna do that NOW.
Sasuke: hm. Funny that.
Sakura: shut UP we clear your name first and THEN we can actually do things that matter.
Sasuke: so my potential execution suddenly doesnât matter?
Sakura: DO YOU HAVE YOUR FLASHCARDS OR NOT
Sasuke: GOD fuck fine YES I have them now get out of the way or Iâll be late. Is that what you want you want me to be late I canât WIN with your crazy ass
(Three minutes later, Sasuke on the stand)
Kakashi, loopy on painkillers Iâm preparation for the obvious oncoming migraine: âŚ.and how do you plead?
Sasuke, setting his note cards on fire and turning on his sharringan: guilty on all charges, obviously. The real question is how YOU, as the citizens of konoha complicit in atrocities and wars and countless horrors in your name, plead
The jury: đđđ
The courtroom: đđđ
Sakura: *foaming at the mouth and being physically restrained by Tenzo*
Naruto:
The konoha 12: thats what I thought youâd say you dumb fucking war criminal
Naruto: đđĽ°đ¨đđ°đđą
Kakashi, very relieved heâs a dictator: well then Iâve heard enough. Youâre free to go =/
The double standards Konoha and fandom generally has when it comes to Uchihas, for example - Asumaâs death. Apparently, Shikamaru is allowed to grieve over his teacherâs death and be unreasonable and lead Choji and Ino against the people they had no chance against. Shikamaru may have had plan against Hidan, but he had no idea about Kakuzuâs abilities. Sure, he planned to get Hidanâs jutsu to kill Kakuzu, but without Kakashi, who got added to his team on last second, Ino and Choji would be long dead before Shikamaruâs plan came into action. Everyone supports and understands him. But now, when Sasuke is grieving over his family and wants a revenge, whole village (and fandom) is calling him a wuss. Where was Kakashiâs famous speech about how he had it worse when he offered his help to Shikamaruâs team? He never showed any intention to support Sasuke about killing Itachi, like he did with Shikamaru. He literally said: âSasuke quit seeking revenge, even if you success, youâll be left with emptiness in the end,â of course, it sounds wise, but then Kakashi goes and offers his help to other team for a revenge mission. Why? Itachi was a criminal just like Hidan and Kakuzu, member of Akatsuki. Did Itachi cause less grief for Sasuke than Hidan did for Shikamaru? Why was it so wrong to go after Itachi like they did with Hidan? There is no arguing that Itachi is worse opponent, but that had never been anyoneâs point. The only thing everyone droned about was that Sasuke had to give up on revenge, forget about his massacred clan and play house in Konoha like nothing bad had ever happened. Another example would be how everyone says how Sasuke doesn't deserve forgiveness or happiness after everything he had done. What had he done so bad actually? Are we still going on about killing few samurai in a battle? Well, remember Gaara, who used to kill everyone simply for the sake of it. He wasn't on his right mind? Surprise, neither was Sasuke at kage's summit, he was finally going to face man who had ordered his family's death, too bad he wasn't all logical. Gaara could be redeemed for his killing spree, but not Sasuke. Sasuke, who got rid of two akatsuki members, sealed Orochimaru and put end to his experiments and torture (until konoha embraced Orochimaru back, because he was bad but at least he didn't kill samurai). Not to forget how Sasuke did Konoha a huge favor and got rid of Danzo, and I'm not gonna talk about how helped Naruto to save the world, but who says thank you? Nope, no one.
I donât know whatâs up with me and making post recently, but anyways⌠as someone who is only on season 6 episode 315 of Naruto Shippuden âLingering Snowâ (10:22 in) I can confirm this far that I am 100% anti-Konoha; or at least, not pro-Konoha. Donât get me wrong, thereâs some people I like, but the majority is ⌠ehhh⌠I mean, just look at what they did to my boys Naruto, and Yota. lol, I donât know either. Uhm⌠whatâs your opinion on Konoha???
