There are good bands, and there are bands that makes you go, "Whoa, this is something that I've never heard before."
In no particular order and with no particular reason, these are somewhat unique sounds worth checking out. A few of these bands are actually already quite well-known in the indie world, but as with any alternative genre, fame is always relative.
1. Alt-J ( @altjband on tumblr ) In the sea of indie rock, Alt-J is really something else. I won't even try to describe their sound because I'll just fail miserably, but the mix of their nasally voice, weird lyrics, and layered arrangements really pulled everything together in the most distinct way. Their debut album "An Awesome Wave" reached quite the critical and commercial success. Their follow-up album, "This Is All Yours" has a more introspective approach, but is every bit as unique as the single-friendly Wave.
Honorable mention: Glass Animals. I heard Glass Animals being compared to Alt-J a lot by fans, for some reason. I tend to disagree because they don't sound remotely alike and I'm not even sure they belong to the same subgenre, but they do have similar spirit--at the very least, in their refusal to be ordinary. At any rate, they're worth checking out too. Click here to listen to Glass Animal’s “Black Mambo”.
2. Twenty One Pilots ( @twentyonepilots on tumblr ) Rap + indie rock. Their debut album, "Vessel", was cute enough. It was new, it was different, and basically it was a proof-of-concept that such odd pairing can work. "Blurryface" album though, was a piece of art.
3. The Cat Empire Okay, maybe I'm biased because they have "Cat" in their name. I'll also admit that I don't know much of their discography besides of their self-titled album which was released in 2003 (I also heard their newer albums aren't as good, at least a bit different). But with its fusion of ska, jazz, and Latin, damn if "The Cat Empire" isn't one of the most fun albums I've heard in a long time.
4. Wild Belle ( @wildbellemusic on tumblr ) If reggae is your jam, Wild Belle might be for you. Wild Belle is composed of siblings Natalie and Elliot Bergman. Natalie's beautiful thinly voice, along with reggae influences is the focus of their debut album, "Isles". But based on their newest single, it seems like their to-be-released sophomore album will be much different--I guess we'll just see. Recently they also had a collaboration with Major Lazer in "Be Together".
5. Milky Chance 'Stoner song' might be the best way to describe Milky Chance's sound. But don't let that description fool you, Milky Chance's songs aren't stupid nor simple--they're just damn delectable.
I hope you’ll like these bands! If you have any suggestions, I’m open to it. Meanwhile, visit a few of my curated music collection, and follow me for Unique Sounds Worth Checking Out Vol. 2!

what to do when Sound Cloud says you can't upload on your account anymore without paying? make a second one. so yeah, I have a new account "AyaKo" and I would appreciate any kind of support <3
people have the audacity to ask if i'm okay after I have been listening to infinite baths by sleep token and confession by girl in red nonstop for the last few weeks
just listened to even in arcadia (the song) and oh my god vessel sounds so hurt :(
i don't have any idea if it's true, but it feels like the album version of caramel is faster than the single version
i felt inspired and made a desktop wallpaper for damocles
stayed up to listen to the new sleep token song and holy fuck it's worth every single moment of its four minutes and fifty seconds of runtime
i really really wouldn't say i like my voice, but today i recorded some lines for a song idea i had and i kept the file instead of deleting it instantly. so that's a win i guess
my life starts feeling like i'm living for sidequests again. i'm supposed to play bass for my friend's band's soundcheck later this week. slight problem here.
i have never fucking played a bass before.
so lets hope my mediocre (at best) guitar skills will save me
putting trumpets in a metal song feels like cheating. I have never heard a metal song with trumpets that wasn't an absolute banger
being friends with other metalheads is weird af. couple weeks ago i told a friend from uni that i found a symphonic deathcore cover of vivaldi's "winter" (which is quite a sentence for itself imo) and I doubted that they (or anyone I knew, really) had heard of it. and then, without hesitation, they grab their phone, begin to scroll frantically and show me the exact song in their library.
so I opened my phone this morning and found out via some random insta video that there's a new song from Linkin Park and they're gonna release a new album? With a new singer?????
there really isn't anything that hits quite as hard as hearing the singer of the band that helped you through some of your worst years sing "it's okay to cry" from the top of his lungs. like technically i know. i don't know how many songs of yours made me cry already. but hearing you say it made me feel something i haven't felt in a long time
someone just said "bring me the horizon are at their best when they're just weird as fuck" and i couldn't agree more. i know some people don't like their new style, but in my opinion it slaps and i love that they're blending everything they've done before in their latest songs
To me this band has an early panic at the disco feel. It makes me nostalgic in a really nice way. 8.5/10
Hi if your feeling generous this holiday season please give my cousin’s band a listen. I know it would mean the world to him since he’s been working on this album for the last year and a half. Happy holidays ❄️ merry Christmas 🎄😊
I started collecting CDs in I think 2012. It’s small collection tho, I had more but I sold some and I really regret that because now the price of CDs is higher (the brand new ones)
Yeah you can see that I love SOUNDGARDEN and everything related to Chris Cornell… I also have a pile of my custom discs from 2014(?) and some of my stepfather ones from early 2000’s
I can’t even explain how much I was into Hole and L7 I always dreamed about having original ones in my collection especially L7s “Bricks are Heavy”
I almost forgot about Sub Pop 200 CD and lately I like to listen to this one because it brings so much nostalgia to me because I remember discovering more and more about grunge music and idk I felt a connection with this genre (I still feel)
Really proud of these two
My biological father had a lot of those custom discs and I remember the 9 y/o me and him driving his car and blasting Rammstein or old Metallica albums and then later when I was older I brought him my L7 CD to play in car but he didn’t like them… I remember my disappointment. He was a classic metalhead. I like those memories…

Idk, Murata looks like that nerd Wojak that NeoPunkFM uses to represent the emo nerd alternative music listener. It's funny and scary at the same time, maybe it's because he looks like an autistic male manipulator.
"Being a Murata fan is like being a fan of NeoPunkFM thumbnails roasting the avarage alternative music listener"
