βFor better or for worseβ¦β Is simon getting married to the freaking Seelie queen??
Wanna bet that if Sebastian ever encountered that demon that feeds on dreams and wishes heβd just be eating Valentines homemade spaghetti with Clary
Gosh this new episode stabbed me right in the heart π₯ Can't wait till next Tuesday ( lol Europe ) ! I made some Malec art for some more feels, you're welcome π
I honestly need to know if Iβm the only one who growing up reading TMI I imagined Alec Lightwood as arab, IβmοΏΌ Emirati and Palestinian so that might play a role but I canβt seriously be 100% alone in this ππ
I mean....i always pictured him really, but still lighter than magnus, so i had trouble picturing him like will...aka british white boi...if that's helpful?? Not really arab...but like south american almost..if that makes sense at all. but thats just how I picture him.
MY TMI GANG HEAD CANNONS
- Alec can, will, and has forged Mayrse's signature, to bail Jace and Izzy out of trouble, with the clave.
- When Jia was consul, she always has them file two reports, one for records and legal purposes, and one with what actually happened, cause you know they 'smudged' the truth a little (a Lot.)
- Simon as a toddler was the type to put anything he could reach in his mouth, rocks, mud, bugs, he'd tried to lick a lit candle at least once.
- Clary was and ankle bitter 100%- much to Luke's amusement.
- Mayrse and Simon have the same coffee order - and and Amazing son-mother-in-law relationship.
- Clary Izzy and Magnus regularly have sleepovers and just rant about their boyfriends all night, and walk out with amazing manacures...Alec is not allowed in the loft during these.
- Alec and Magnus have a ranking of who they can ask to babysit Max and Rafe...it's based one how likely they are to give their toddler/baby deadly weapons and magical ideas, Jace and Izzy are towards the Bottom.
- Simon is either the best with baby/house sitting...or they place is in fire in 1/2 hour...there is no in between.
- Simon is the only one of them who can actually cook worth his ass...and no Magnus, elabrote meals summoned from around the world don't count.
- Alec is low-key a pyromaniac.
- They all have rotations to make sure that no of them are alone a night, cause they all have nightmares.
- one of them definitely has a very detailed kill list ..very detailed...and elaborate
- Simon takes April fools very serious...no one knows how he does it...but there all extra nice to him towards the end of March.
- Izzy and Magnus have drilled a fashion sense into everyone they regluarly interact with.
- Jace and Simon are both polygots and often have arguments switching between several languages...Alec has giving up trying to understand, and Magnus laughs his ass off, at his frustration.
- Izzy has is the type to fake a different accent everytime she order...much to the confusion of the barista at Java's.
- Eric named the band The Mortal Instruments...not Simon.
- Raziel killed George to get back at Simon.
- Raziel has watched the gang because he know if someone doesn't ...there gonna fuck up the world
-Simon absolutely despises angels...and low-key thinks Azazel was a Vibe... Clary thinks it's whatever...the Lightwoods are very concerned
- Alec has set off fireworks on the institute roof once..he never got caught
- Magnus gets a tattoo of their intials..after they all pass
- Sizzy has an open relationship for sex..but not dating...they also have a mission to sleep their way through New Yorks age appropriate shadowworld population.
- Simon know way to many people...like way to many people.
- after watching Spiderman No Way Home..they all just kinda clung to Simon..it hit too close to home.
- They all tease Jace over the fact that he's the only one to never meet Raziel despite the fact that his the reason he was summoned twice now.
- Jace is ridiculously vanilla....Clary is less.
My head cannon that makes no sense but lives rent free in my head any way is that Alec calls Simon Elijah...and he gives no explanation as to why.
Okay so I've had some thoughts about this, ESPECIALLY as a Simon fan. If you look at my account I think it's pretty obvious that my favourite character of all time is Simon Lewis-Lovelace-Lightwood, and alot of stuff in the newer books, including TFTSA bother me about his character. I hate how Cassie keeps trying to push him out, she killed off all his character development with George, even all the other TFTSA characters like Jon, Julie, ect, in the later book more or less ignore him and there reason for being there is cause if Jace and Clary. Simon is allowed to have friends that don't revolve around Clace. I feel like his whole asension is so forced, never once has Simon expressed anything other than being annoyed or even hateful of the Clave and Anything Shadow hunter, ( Including RAZIEL, you know the angel that dictates who survives the cup or not that more than likely despises his ass after CoLS) so him wanting to be a shadowhunter is very unlike him.
Even so he should have been George's, or even Marisols Parbati, not Clarys. Not that I think he would have one period, He's JEWISH, a huge part of that is not marking your skin, including tattoos or Runes, which Are literally burned onto your skin! I feel like Cassie writes his faith over as character convenience, and other than the star of David, it Earley mentioned.
Cassie should have explored his experience gaining his memories back and rediscovering his place in the shadow world...which as a Mundane he would have had to CARVE.HIS.WAY. INTO! Even with his status. Like his strength of of will is imaculate, and his mental strength his what got him through, and is commented on by magnus or Alec (I don't rember) in LBOTW. But if course that is shoved under the rug, to make room for Julian and Emma...and of course more Clace. The only characters That really get explored outside of Clace is Malec, and I feel like that's mostly due to there fan base. Like Simon out smarted and/or out willed, Lilith(the mother of demons!) Azazel( LUCIFERS second in command), Raziel( a fucking angel) Asmodeus,Samuel,Valentine, Sebastian, Molachi, Robert Lightwood, Jace, The Seelie Queen, Raphael Santiago...shall I continue?? He deserves respect from that alone.
Don't get me wrong I love Clace, and Climon is one of my favorite friendships, but it's not focused on outside of competition for Jace( which he wins, cause why would Simon's literally life and or sanity outway his angst??) Or plot convince to get Clary where she needs as a character ( to get closer with Jace.) Even isebelle, like I love Sizzy, but her whole personality went from being a whip welding badass, to being a shallow heartthrob, who is only with Simon. There whole relationship ship is so forced...but she needed someone to take Simon attention of Clary,(so her primary focus can one again be Jace)
My god I never meant to write this much but damn Simon Slander gets me pissed, HES FUCKING IMPORTANT AND IN PAIN ANF UNDERAPPRECIATED, SOMEONE GIVE HIM A HUG!!!
I feel like I should mention my theory that George only died because Raziel couldn't take his grudge out on Simon, so he took it out on his BROTHER!!!
I think in the Tales, Simon was concerned that he couldn't become Clary's parabatai because he's a bit older than her and close to 18. But it was explained to him that becoming a vampire stopepd his aging, so he's still 17 and still has time to complete his training, Ascend and then take the parabatai oath.
I think CoB started with Clary's birthday but I can't remember if it was her 15th or 16th (I think 15th, because I remember my shock at how young when was lol). Considering that the whole TMI story happened in months (I really don't think it was years) and the vampire thing, he still had time.
All is possible for Clare's darlings! as long as she can play matchy matchy and pair everyone up in some way or another to play on that nostalgia factor.
Like why would Simon be parabatai with someone who's virtually a stranger to him after the memory loss curse?
Why because Clare needs everyone and everything to revolve around Clary (and by extension Jace and the SH world)!
Angel forbid Simon actually forgot all about them and lived his life as normal without having to abandon his family, friends and religion.
She even killed off George to make sure Simon could get the Lovelace last name AND didn't have to choose between him and Clary πππ
It was Claryβs 16th birthday in City of Bones. As the events of The Mortal Instruments take place in 2007, and Tales takes place some months after COHF, itβs somewhere in 2008. Simon would turn 18 in October that year and Clary would turn 17 in August. And since Simon was physically stuck at the same age some time, thereβs that.
Okay, they are both under 18 even if Simon didnβt manage to push through his education and ascension before October. Itβs a tight schedule but conveniently Simon has a reason why Clary and Simon can happen as parabatai. Itβs not exactly pushing the rules because it does fit and kind of make sense, but again, itβs convenient.
Parabatai were told to be rare, but now many characters have one after Clare got more enthusiastic about it after concocting The Infernal Devices. Before Clockwork Angel the only book in the series to use the word parabatai was City of Bones. Simon and Clary donβt feel like parabatai. I forgot they were when reading The Lost Book of the White until the line βHe was standing in front of his sister and his parabatai and his parabataiβs girlfriend and her parabatai.β Thatβs more parabatais used than in CoA and DoG combined (which was none).
Simon continuing on with his life wouldβve been good for him. Clary wouldβve lost something, the story wouldβve had more stakes. Simon did the heavy lifting for the plot in TMI and suffered for it. Simon got dragged into the shadow world because he didnβt want to leave Clary, but this way Clary couldβve let Simon go to live his human life with his friends and family. But whoβd be Claryβs parabatai? Whoβd date Isabelle?
Matchy, matchy.
I hope that when Simon and Isabelle get married, Simon takes the Lightwood name. I hate that nostalgia-baiting with the name Lovelace.
Isabelle Lightwood is the only TMI character that hasn't had a last name identity crisis
TMI Gang on a mission after edom
Alec: * makes a plan*
Simon: That's a shitty plan
Alec: okay you might have pulled through in Edom, but I make the plans!
Alec: I kept Jace and Izzy alive before you showed up
Simon: That's because your plans are shitty but theirs are somehow worse
Jace and Izzy: That's fair
Hey guys from today I'm gonna be doing my favourite charachters from every letter of the alphabet this is going to be from across books/movies and maybe tv shows!
Letter A:
Anikan Skywalker
Alec Lightwood
Which do cast do you like better?
fucking bawling my eyes out
How perfect is it that Magnus decides to take Alexander's surname? to unite it with his own, making it something unique?
Now, I'm not up to date with the books, but from what I gathered Alexander is it for Magnus. Before Alec, Magnus never married, never even bothered to imagine a forever with someone. Alec, in his simplicity and contradictions, has managed to tear down and entirely destroy that wall that had been up for centuries. And while Magnus desperately wants to hope for their forever, desperately wants it, he knows how it is going to end. He knows Alexander is going to pass someday and what he decides to do?
He takes is surname.
I can very well imagine Magnus never removing their wedding ring, even after Alec's passing, which would be a declaration on itself. But the surname?
He is not only saying "oh, he was my love, we were married once". He is incorporating him in his identity. We know how important identity is for a warlock, they usually choose their names for themselves. And Magnus is choosing to making Alec part of it, part of himself.
In a couple of centuries, when the present will only be a chapter in the book of history, Magnus still be Magnus Lightwood-Bane. He would still be Magnus Bane, but he would still be declaring, centuries from now, that he loved a shadowhunter once. That there's a part of him that still will be loving that shadowhunter. That he will probably never stop.
I don't ever want another love.
Was anybody going to tell me that Alec Lightwood is autistic or was I supposed to come to that conclusion while rereading the books five years later myself???
I think itβs very interesting that Alecβs full name is Alexander.
Alexander means βmanβs defenderβ which is often his tactical position during fights. He defends the perimeter with his bow and often gets the brunt of attacks.
Although it fits perfectly with his identity as a Shadowhunter, it also fits nicely with his personality.
Alec is very defensive over the people he loves:
- He threatens Clary over Jace
- Kills Meliorn when searching for Magnus (insane moment that cemented him as my favourite character)
- Was adverse to Simon dating his sister (who heβs extremely protective of)
β¬οΈβ¬οΈIn this scene he nearly flips β¬οΈβ¬οΈ
βββ
βWhere's Simon?" Clary interrupted.
Isabelle wobbled. "He's a rat," she said darkly.
Did he do something to you?" Alec was full of brotherly concern. "Did he touch you? If he tried anything-"
No, Alec," Isabelle said irritably. "Not like that. He's a rat."
β-
Even with his sons heβs always defending them, he worked hard to make sure Rafael was adopted properly.
Not to mention all the things he does for the Downworlder community.
Alec spent a lot of his life worrying about being unable to live up to expectations, only to become what his name represented.
Alexander doesnβt just mean defender, bro IS the defender π₯
Shout-out to Cassandra Clare for appreciating the intimacy of characters calling each other by their full names when everyone else uses a nickname for them
Shadowhunters. Thereβs nothing left to say. Just Shadowhunters.
Bro this fits perfectly
