Used an ancient draft for practice

forgot to post this one. i was really proud if the pull up man (still looks good to me), and the rest i think i did during english class (i couldn't possibly read the hiragana now, lol, completely forgotten)

wanted to look at old doodles to see my progress. this sketchbook is mostly undated but i finished it in february 2024.

i was rather hesitant to try to draw stuff i was bad at drawing, and used pencil to be able to erase and redraw any line many times, so sometimes it feels like nothing improved drastically. but i think i would be able to draw same stuff much faster now and be more confident in shapes and proportions and do less awkward mistakes such as too long torso or tube shaped shins.

30 minutes line of action. i think i improved a lot shapes-wise, even 1 minute ones often look coherent to me.

idk what i did to achieve it, it just became like this few days ago. well, i hope it isn't just as easily reversible, haha

very enjoyable session and i am glad with the results

sometimes it do be like that (worse than before) but we keep going. i kinda disliked drawing that guy bc his photographer uses settings that distort proportions (like fisheye or the opposite) so his limbs look bizarrely huge and disproportionate. but today i enjoyed the cartoonish look.

wow shading in digital is just like painting (i am bad af at it and don't understand how it's done). i think i have learnt something towards the end of my attempt to shade it, but not nearly enough ofc. big shaded areas are especially hard for me (look at his thigh lol). didn't do a full hour of practice but did some quick doodles and then ~10 minutes or so of 3 layer image (line of action and other messy lines, the outline and my attempt at shading). at least it got fun enough in the end for me to see next digital practice as a fun activity and not just something necessary.

anyway, never give up, i will get there some day and so will you

i should do line of action in digital, but would kinda prefer to do pencil or pen instead since i suck at digital.. but that's exactly why i should practice in digital more... sigh

i should also practice just drawing lines from point a to point b since i have trouble guessing the right direction when using the tablet, i will keep struggling at basic stuff until i learn to do that but that's an even less satisfying exercise

finally a free day, i should draw some but am tempted to play video games or just laze around, a hard choice...

took sleeping pills yesterday and had funny dreams, among them - having to draw miller on a chalkboard, struggling to draw his glasses for some time but only being able to draw o-o, and then abandoning the effort, lol. didn't even attempt to draw his face or figure

miller study based on pw reference. the first attempt was atrocious, then i traced it from the reference and tried to replicate the proportions twice more. still not satisfied but getting there. at least the traced one looks nice

i only like the longest one, except for his private bits but i'm not interested in that much so don't really care. thought the 10 minute one will be decent too, but its shading doesn't convey where the darkest/lightest parts are. the smiling lady one is atrocious even though i had 5 minutes for it; drawing rotated people is cool bc as soon as a head is at 90° angle compared to the "normal" i fail to recognise the parts and proportions properly.

idk what are you talking about tbh, pw has many new cool features starting with consecutive c!q!c! and grilling and ending with cool mission types such as finding stuff (documents, the guy with the banana, zadornov, the right door), pooyan, monster hunter ops, r&d management, optional quick time events in ai mech fights (i like them if they're rare) and ability to make codec calls without pausing the game. while also having nice stuff from previous games such as location partition similar to mgs3 (both indoors and outdoors locations with natural looking "doors"/transition points between them) or base management. the only boring stuff is the quantity of mech battle side ops and grinding high rankings recruits to meet development criteria imo, which is only an issue bc there's a ton of the same thing.

and kazuhira "work ethics and nature protection laws violation" miller is the cherry on top. i am very fond of him as a character but his most obvious features and interests in pw are a collection of flaws that'd make me instantly dislike a person irl, ig it means he's very well integrated into the game to make the opposite impression.

anyway "boring" is a matter of taste ofc, it's just an excuse to me to represent the pw simping part of the players too and to yap about gameplay

I felt nostalgic and full of love for MGR community today, so... 2015-2023 MGR FAN ART BOOK This is a compilation of my artworks done over the years. Most of them appeared on my blog, but some haven't. a friend said sleep deprivation works similarly to being drunk. if i was still into alcohol i would draw after, like, one beer, almost sober to be able to comprehend stuff and make effort to figure out and remember how things look, but drunk enough so anything i draw seems good enough

will draw sober instead (mb with a tasty non-alcoholic beer) and learn to be just as chill on my own

personal notes (mood) to previous post under cut

i am awake for 27+ hours (willingly), had a good day at work and it's doing wonders to my mood despite a sad and lowkey bizarre event earlier today. might draw more or go to sleep, idk will see how it'll go. feels a bit wrong but except that one event the day is really nice and i am both willing and able to do more. it is usually a bit stressful to draw new stuff, especially character i like and would like to portray good, but this one was just fun. i wish all-nighters weren't bad for health and incompatible with normal schedule

a small miller study based on @/sunclown 's art and peace walker model. i intended to focus on the hairstyle but ended up paying more attention to the face. i think i finally have an understanding (or a guess, at least) of his face structure. drew the pic that i like tbh and then some rougher notes on the shapes i tried to capture, for future reference.

2nd digital line of action. hopefully tomorrow will bother roommate to show me how to shade. drawing lines is still hard and slower than pencil or pen, but i like to think it's a bit better than the previous one. tried shading the long one with lines but failed and ctrl+z'd it. overall rather satisfied
