Okay, so!! Pretty much, even before all the Katsucrew and KariBaku was on my mind, I was obsessed with the idea of Katsuki like. having a whole separate life than we see in canon. I mean, it's not that hard to imagine, considering we've seen next to nothing about his personal, outside-of-UA life in canon. It would make sense to some people, since it's kind of accepted canon at this point that Katsuki's whole life revolves around Heroics, but I just never vibed with that thinking, y'know? I mean. Katsuki's a teenager, he's got to have some sort of outside life, right?

And when I started thinking about that, it kind of just combined with my personal HC about Katsuki being gay, and my mind immediately went Secret Boyfriend! Secret Boyfriend! Secret Boyfriend!

That thought alone was enough to get me pumped up, but before KariBaku I was a pretty staunch KiriBaku shipper, so all I thought of was perhaps making up an OC. But none of the ones I made seemed to fit the bill, and I kind of just ended up with this half-thought out concept that was just. going nowhere.

And then. And then. Oh my god, dear lord, I miraculously found what was, at the time, the one and only KariBaku fic out there in English, on AO3. Let me tell you, @pyrrhicwildfire was an absolute genius because that fic dragged me into rarepair hell and I have yet to leave. It was just something about the vibes of that fic, the banter, it stuck to my brain and refused to let go.

And because I was absolutely obsessed, after far too many rereads to count, I put my detective hat on and went searching. And I struck gold. I found this little corner of Japanese, and an even smaller corner of Korean, BNHAtwit and it was. It was phenomenal. I came across too many fantastic artworks, and in search for more, I learned the hashtags, learned the shipnames they used for KariBaku on the Asian side of Twitter, and I just kept finding more and more. And then when there wasn't more? I turned to Pixiv, overturned that for any scrap of content I could find, and then to Pinterest I went.

I really did become obsessed with this ship within a week. It was the greatest thing I'd ever found, and I was so fucking determined to share it!! And now we have a whole server, and amazing content that I look at every day of my life.

This whole thing was such an experience. And the fact that people actually love the 'verse I created out of a character once virtually unknown outside of those little corners Japanese and Korean anitwit, and a bunch of cobbled together OCs I thought up from low-res screenshots I took of the Aldera classroom, it's just. There's no words for how grateful I am to all the people who support this little monster of a concept I created, and the journey this ship took me on was just simply amazing.

I know I kinda deviated from your original ask, but yeah. In general my starting inspo was just the thought of Katsuki with a secret boyfriend, and then pyrrhicwildfire became my ultimate inspiration in writing this ship, and now all my friends in the KariBaku server are what keep me loving this ship <33

For your undercut verse, how did you come up with the names for Bakugou's friends from junior high? I love them!!!

Ooh!! Anon, how did you know I absolutely obsess over names?? Anyways!! For all the names, I use this handy-dandy little website called Tangorin. It's the absolute love of my life and it's saved me SO much time.

For most of the crew, I started out by picking out certain traits I wanted to be represented in their name, whether that pertains to physical appearance, personality, or Quirk. However, for some, I also picked names that were thematically sound or had certain reasoning behind the naming. Both of these are very reliant upon the kanji I use to spell the names, as well.

There are plenty of examples within the Katsucrew alone for all these reasonings, so I might as well just go over all of them, huh?

So, with Kariage, his name was actually pretty easy to come up with. For him, I was looking for a name with any particular meaning, I just wanted one that I could validly take Kariage from. As some of you already know, that's the name the Japanese fandom came up for him, courtesy of his hairstyle, and it's since become decently known in our little corner of the fandom. And thus, if you rearrange the name I created for him in the Western way, it'll give you ashiKARI AGEi.

Unintentionally, however, I did give him a name that represented him in some way. His surname has kanji that give meanings that align with his personality (relaxed, quiet), and his Quirk (in how he must apply many techniques, and often uses it to trick opponents). His first name also gives insight to what he'd do as an Underground Hero (hunt down criminals, raid villain bases, gather intel.)

With Kanji, her name came about due to it having a primarily thematic purpose. The kanji I used to spell it have the meaning of perfect motive, which in terms of importance to the story, emphasize how she, before all else, is the one who inspires Kariage to be the very best he can be. She is the reason he wants to become a Hero, and for the longest time, she was the only thing keeping him going. It's a pretty minor thing, since not many people care for the meanings of names in a story, but it was one of the first details I ironed out, and one that I believe makes the storyline just that much more enjoyable for me.

As for Yasushi, the name I settled on actually wasn't the first one I thought up for him! The first I had in my notes was actually Sashi Terunobu, and admittedly, I do like how this one aptly described his Quirk in the name (quite literally meaning finger and stretch). However, when I went through much investigation on whether Katsuki's childhood friends had canon names, I actually found an info book that listed Yasu's canon surname as Dehisa, and had the first part of his given name (Ya) shown. Since I didn't quite have a lot of room to work with, I did the best I could, and thus ended up with the name I have for him now. While not as exact as the first name I thought up, I really like how his canon surname has the meaning of long time, as it comes across as rather accurate in regards to how long he and Katsuki have known each other.

With everyone else, I had a good amount of wiggle room, though! Seika's pretty unique in how long it took for me to pick her name. In the end, I settled on the names I thought fit her best. Her surname described her most prominent trait (large eyes) and personality (radiant, sparkling) pretty well, and her first name did so much justice in regards to explaining her Quirk on the surface level (blue/green vortex), so while it took some time to settle on something good, I'm happy with what I decided for her.

Henshuu's name was the most difficult to decide, I think, out of everyone. Many of the meanings I wanted to include in her name weren't quite compatible with kanji, so it was hard finding loopholes and attempting to piece together something cohesive. In the end, her surname effectively described her Quirk (salt bubbles) and her given name included both a reference to her appearance (braid/plaits) and a surface level understanding of her personality (in how people tend to flock around her).

Out of everyone, I think Mito's name is the most cohesive. It's actually quite funny how succinct the meaning of her surname is in regards to her Quirk (literally fire hand, I love it), and her first name is rather lovely in how it potentially describes her hair (beautiful orange). Overall, I like the simplicity of Mito's name most out of everyone, excepting maybe Kanji.

Lastly, Hifue's name is one that gave me a bit of trouble. Her last name was found quite easily, actually, and I do feel quite proud of how it outlines her Quirk (small, float and mind, air are the most prominent meanings, which is pretty great since her Quirk is literally floating small things through the air with her mind so). Her first name is one I wasn't quite satisfied with because it was really a last minute decision, but it grew on me after a while. After all, it does tie into how her Quirk works (two fingers must be outstretched for her Quirk to work), and I now adore how much it describes her now that I've fleshed out her character and story a bit more (flourish, prosper, and splendor are all very apt, in my personal opinion.)

Anyways, I feel like that's everything!! In summary, I pretty much picked certain traits and vibes I wanted to shine through and went with it!! I'm really happy you love their names just as much as I do, Anon. They were created through the labor of love, and I'm happy that they resonate with you!! <33

Introducing the entirety of the Katsucrew at long last!!

From left to right we have - 

Daikikou Seika, the sweetheart and resident fashion disaster of the group. She’s a bit soft spoken but with a surprisingly willful side to her, and she loves taking care of her army of plants and reading from her many books.

Kate Mito, the mechanics-obsessed trouble-maker of the crew. She’s a very candid girl who expresses her feelings freely, and she’ll rant for hours about her ideas and theories to anyone willing to sit down and listen.

Agei Ashikari, or Kariage, the very reason the trope of bad boy with a heart of gold exists. He’s understanding to a fault and cares deeply, always willing to defend his friends or cheer them up with a ride through town.

Bakugou Katsuki, the center of this motley crew. Somehow, even as a bratty kid with a million and one complexes, he ended up with the most amazing group of friends and all it took was a few months of badgering and friendship rituals.

Agei Kanji, the absolute baby of the group and favorite of them all. She’s sweet and kind, quick to comfort and unfailingly hilarious, an amalgamation of all the best traits of the group, who she all views as her honorary siblings.

Shioawa Henshuu, the most feral of the the group under her deceptively disarming guise. Both driven and gentle, she knows every way to topple someone down and then how to pull them back up with a helping hand.

Obuki Hifue, the perpetually exhausted mother hen of the squad. She’s quiet to a point, but around her friends she smiles brighter than the sun and works hard to make sure they take care of themselves, lest she get personally involved.

Dehisa Yasushi, the laid-back older brother figure of the squad. He’s relatively chill most of the time, only really getting hyped over video games, but he’s always down to have a good time with his friends, whether it’s legal or not.

I should say though, that I’ve also decided that Family by Mother Mother is the theme song of the Katsucrew. Give it a listen if you haven’t already - it matches this squad of hell-raisers perfectly.

Oh, wow, not me answering asks twelve years late - never that! Okay, but for real, I’ve lowkey been thinking about a Skater Katsucrew AU for awhile now. I’m probably never gonna write something for it, at least not now, what with my busy as fuck schedule, but!! It makes me happy to rant about, so I’ll guess I’ll just do that dkfjhdjsk

Okay, so!! Kariage’s your classic skateboarder. He made his first one out of old scrap wood and bought his first real one years later after he fell in love and decided to save up for one. He’s got a bunch of scars from falling and the rough edges of his homemade board scratching him. He’s really into doing complicated tricks, mostly to impress Katsuki, but mostly enjoys how learning and rehearsing his moves will take him out of his own head for a few hours. It’s relaxing to him.

Yasushi is a longboarder. He’s knows a few tricks, but mostly prefers cruising - especially down empty roads or on his way home from school, where there’s not that much foot traffic. He learned because he got jealous of Kariage’s interest in skateboarding when they were kids, but made the switch to the more casual board after a bad fall.

Mito’s a biker. Solidly built with thick tires and a more filled out frame, her bike looks like a mainstream dirt bike, but that’s mostly because she built it to withstand some pretty harsh crashes. She doesn’t know too many tricks, mostly because her bike’s too big for doing most of them without her screwing up or falling, but she loves having races with anyone who’ll go against her.

Henshuu has a scooter. She’s not that interested in using it for tricks or to try to impress people, and she is fully aware that riding on it makes people think she’s younger than she is, especially combined with her stature and baby face. However, she loves how easy it is to cruise on it for hours and to get places fairly quick - plus, it also serves as a perfect opportunity to hit someone’s ankles when they’re being annoying.

Katsuki has inline skates. This may be surprising to most people, since he so much looks like someone who’d use some other sort of wheels, but it actually fits him best. He doesn’t like riding bikes or scooters because it requires the use of hands and he prefers to keep his free, and having his wheels firmly attached to shoes that can’t come off with ease makes it effortless to do tricks and seamless moves without a second thought.

Seika’s a rollerskater. She’s a very clumsy person by nature, so having the four wheels set in two rows instead of one helps her maintain her balance easier. She loves doing competitive roller derby, often serving as her team’s jammer since she’s the fastest and most flexible on account of her small size, and it’s not rare to see her practicing evasive maneuvers and racing her friends to get better.

Hifue is a figure skater. She’s got that fancy feel, y’know? I don’t know, but the vibe of her dressed in fancy silk and sequins, spinning and dancing and moving like she is so in tune with her body, effortlessly like she was made for it - it’s perfect. Figure skating for her is not simply a skill to master or a way to make people ooh and ahh, it’s a way of life to her, something so ingrained that being off the ice feels foreign.

Anyways!! In this AU, I’m imagining that the squad starts off split up. You’ve got Kari’s gang: him and Yasu and Mito, just a bunch of bad kids on boards and a bike. They’re known as those kids who practically live at the skate park, and you can’t live around their neighborhood without seeing them cruising the empty streets at night laughing at the top of their lungs at least once.

Then, comes Katsuki’s crew. It’s odd, seeing him and Seika and Henshuu together - they don’t really fit as well as most people think friends should: Katsuki’s loud and brash, Seika’s shy and sweet, and Henshuu’s bold and sly. But Katsuki and Seika’s similar styles and Henshuu’s incessant butting in brought them together as friends.

The two group collide when Katsuki decides to skate at the slightly derelict park that Kariage frequents. Immediately, Kariage is intrigued by Katsuki, who slouches with a hand on his hip, barely reaching Kari’s shoulder because of the one row skates he wears, scrunching his nose at the sight of the board that rests against Kariage’s hip. Immediately, Katsuki wants to leave, not wanting to associate with wannabe skater kids, but Seika and Henshuu are already so enamored with Mito, and now he can’t leave.

Things go on, and eventually the kids start hanging out more and more, especially after Kariage quite frankly shocked Katsuki with his skateboarding skills - not that he’d admit it or anything, but Kari can see the twitch of Katsuki’s eyebrows and the light in his eyes and he smirks because Katsuki’s not as slick as he thinks, trying to hide his amazement.

Then, Seika, ever the sweetheart, brings in a new member - Hifue, who’s stiff and slightly uncomfortable, who slowly relaxes and who eventually becomes best friends with the crew, who takes note of the risks her friends take when riding and incorporates more daring flips and tricks into her routine and becomes even better at her sport than she ever thought, now that she has friends who inspire her to step outside the box and think freely.

Plus!! Just thinking of little baby Kanji, trying out skateboarding with her brother holding her hand and the whole crew cheering the first time she manages to land and flip - it’s gonna make my heart explode from the sheer cuteness.

I am banging my fists on a table as we speak. Oh my god, I just?? I really like this?? I remember when you messaged me about this, and I was super excited to see how you handled this!! To be honest, I never expected Kariage and KariBaku to get as popular as it did. When I first started shipping it back in August-ish, literally no one I knew had heard of it. Only a few Japanese and Korean writers and artists had works spread across the web, and @pyrrhicwildfire had their fic on ao3 that came out last year, which helped me get hooked.

Now, we’ve got a whole ass Discord server for KariBaku, so many talented artists and writers creating amazing content every freaking day, and a doc for Kariage and his rise to fame?? Please, I am so happy that you made this!! It was absolutely perfect, even for a work-in-progress, and I can’t thank you enough for making it <33

The Kariage Master Doc

It is a somewhat collective from of Kariage and his character. It's still unfinished but I'm planing on adding onto it. Such as expanding on the history of the character and other smaller aspects. Going more into depth with his dynamic and the versatility that it holds.

WOW, so I finally got around to rereading this and lemme tell you,, it is just as painful as the first time you talked about this concept on Discord. Like?? Wow, Gab, really tearing my heart to shreds here.

ANYways, yeah this is just?? So supremely sad, to be honest. There’s just something so depressing about reading stories and concepts where characters dying preventable deaths, and all I can think of is the build up to this, you know? How many times Katsuki must’ve asked, told, pleaded for Kari to give up his habit, only to have Kari laugh and tell him it’s not that serious as he lights up another cigarette, as his voice gets deep and scratchy, as he gains a cough that never really goes away, until he can barely breathe after a few steps and can’t laugh unless he wants to pass out.

Then, Kari gets the diagnosis and there’s,, there’s nothing they can do. No medicine is working, it’s too far along, they’re not given hope - they’re given a time limit. Maybe Katsuki’s mad, at first. After all, he told Kari time after time after time, looking out the corner of his eye as Kari smoked, breath raspy and fingers shaking: That’s gonna be the death of you.

He wished he wasn’t right, for once in his fucking life.

Kari dies and takes some part of Katsuki with him, some integral, important part of Katsuki that lets him feel, lets him live. It’s buried alongside Kari in a casket that won’t ever open, and Katsuki maybe feels a little like he, too, died.

But his heart still beats and his lungs still breathe and his stomach still grumbles, and Katsuki feels like his body has betrayed him. Because how can he still be alive, when the one person who actually saw him is gone, buried six feet under, never to be seen again, never to laugh or cry or love again?

Katsuki’s alive, but it doesn’t feel like it. Not when the colors he sees are dull, and he feels rooted to solid ground. Even when he becomes the Number One Hero, people cheering out all around him, he can’t muster up a smile, can barely mutter through a scripted speech before he’s beating it. He sits a home, dressed in his half-done up Hero Costume, and thinks about how he’d give it all up for Kari. He’d stop being a Hero, leave the people who call themselves his friends and family, shed his name and every aspect of his identity just to have a chance to talk to Kari even once.

But the real world doesn’t work that way, and he wakes the next day and continues the constant cycle of sorrow.

Anyways, yeah this broke my heart, hehe </3

BAKUGOU HEADCANON 27

Kariage dies from lung cancer due to his smoking habits during Bakugou’s 2nd year and fuck, Bakugou knew this was coming, knew that it’ll be sooner that later but he still can’t wrap his mind around loosing one of the people that cared about him. (Bakugou cares about a lot of people, though they seldom care about him too).

Sometimes when he sees a cigarette bud on the street, he can’t help think about how they’re the reason he lost the one person in his life he truly loved. When he smells smoke, they bring tears in his eyes and his throat instantly gets tight because it smells so much like Kariage, it’s like he’s there beside him again. But that’s just it right? That smoke is the reason he’s gone. Funny how that works.

He can’t bring himself to wear the color black anymore because it reminded him of their high school sweetheart days and suddenly he feels numb, feels nothing because the love of his life isn’t there to watch him grow as a hero and as a person (like Kariage said he would). Can’t bring himself to sneak out of U.A. no matter how much he wants to because that used to be their secret thing. When he becomes number one hero, sure he’s proud he’s made it, he worked and bled for this. But the one person that supported him since day one wasn’t there to watch the stars with him until sunrise that night. He thought the day he’ll reach number one will be the best day of his life, but it’s not. Not without him, the only person that mattered. He realizes after everything that his greatest goal in life wasn’t victory, because he was already a winner with Kariage. 

And now he isn’t.

Like, hello? The concept of Kari not really caring about losing his Quirk cuz it only really fucked him up and he only ever wanted to go to art school?? Interesting, and I am so intrigued about the idea of people not really feeling like their Quirk is integral to their existence and people who don’t feel lost when they lose their Quirk. But!! The fact that Kari thinks only of Katsuki after is just,, immaculate.

Kari being scared that Katsuki won’t accept his little crush now that he’s Quirkless is just so 😭 please I’m so sad. But then!! He’s just so desperate that he takes a chance and I am just clutches chest dramatically swooning over how Katsuki so readily accepts him because he doesn’t care.

Kari is Kari, Quirk or not.

And, ugh, the absolute flavor of having the Bakusquad being utter assholes? Delicious, even more so since Katsuki is actually, reasonably mad at them. But the moment he just drops his squad because they fucked around too much and messed with shit they shouldn’t even touch? Very sexy for him to ditch them, in my honest opinion 😌

Headcanon that bakugou dates someone quirkless and everyone is super confused but also invested. There are bets and private group chats and someone has done a background check on them. Someone definitely tried to check BK for any type of manipulation. (That poor soul is no longer with us).

I’m going to go and make this Karibaku, if that’s alright.

Okay, so.

Imagine if Kariage lives in a really rough neighbourhood, so he’s always been around illegal substances and black-market quirk-related content. And then he hears talk of bullets that can erase quirks, apparently they’ve started circulating around the villain communities, but they’re incredibly rare and have barely been used.

But then, one night, he’s walking home from Katsuki’s place, it’s the weekend and so he finally got the chance to go see him again since Kat is always busy at UA, and before he knows it he hears fighting in an alley, and just as he’s about to rush by the entrance to it, he hears a gunshot and suddenly there’s pain in his leg. A stray bullet.

It’s all a little bit blurry after that. 

Before he knows it, he’s in the hospital and he’s being told his quirk is gone.

Fine. Whatever. He wasn’t using it anyways since he was going to art school and it was only making his goddamn asthma worse.

But fuck.

Katsuki.

Now, he knew the blond wasn’t the way he used to be in middle school, he knew that his opinions on quirkless people used to be complicated and had since changed. But he just couldn’t get the damn thought out of his head, what if he had lost his chance before he even got to try and make it work with his friend?

He’d had a pathetic crush on him since Middle School. Katsuki knew about it, he was sure of it. They’d been dancing around each other for years.

And now... he didn’t know if the dance would continue.

He didn’t know if Katsuki would want him now that he’s... well, useless.

But then, the next day, Katsuki is right there by his side, holding his hand all the while he’s calling him an idiot for not being more careful.

Kariage pulls him in and kisses him before Katsuki manages to get himself kicked out.

After that, they officially starts dating.

The last thing he expected was for Katsuki to become increasingly more and more pissed off as they got further into the relationship.

At first, he figured he was the problem, maybe he’d done something.

But soon Katsuki told him.

“Told those stupid fuckers I was dating ya a while back cause they kept asking who I was talking to. They asked if you’re in the hero course and when I said no they asked if you have a weak quirk or something, I said you’re quirkless. They’ve been fuckin’ placing bets on how long it’s gonna take for me to dump you cause of it and shit.”

Kariage just shrugs and pulls him in, kissing him and hugging him until he finally calmed down.

A few days later, though, he gets a message on his IG. 

After a short chat, they finally end up asking the question they’ve clearly been meaning to ask, “so, how did you get Blasty to date you? What did you do to him?”

The moment Kariage texts Katsuki about what had happened, his boyfriend is trying to figure out what the fuck is going on.

Only then does he find out the lack of faith his friends have in him, the doubts and the judgement. 

Whatever. He doesn’t need those fuckers.

All he needs is Kariage. And he has him - quirk or not.

The fact that I somehow missed this actual masterpiece is a crime and a damn shame and I cannot believe myself. Just?? The way you write them,,, absolute perfection. I don’t know how to describe it, but their interaction, their voices, their banter are all supremely immaculate and I’m in pure awe.

Just,,, Katsuki realizing that knowing someone for as long as he has Kari means they know your next move maybe even better than you do, Kari’s incessant teasing, them cuddling?? Bye, I am simply deceased, they are far too adorable for this world. Kari just opening his arms and baiting Katsuki into hugging him?? Perfection, I love it.

Katsuki not pulling away from Kari’s kisses because he craves affection is just,,, adorable. The whole thing with Kari being weaker than Katsuki but still holding him anyways 😭 please, Your Honor, they’re in love. And the part where Kari teases Katsuki about Deku is fantastic, especially the part where he insinuated Deku was salty he wasn’t the one dating Katsuki - that had me laughing so hard.

And the end?? Where Kari takes such pride in dating Katsuki to the point where he brags about it and the whole “I’d never, Katsuki”?? Please, I am deceased, he is just?? so in love with Katsuki and he’s proud of it and he’ll never deny Katsuki what he wants because he’s just?? so?? in love??

Once again, you slap me in the face with your amazing writing and characterizations and I am!! so!! grateful!! <33

Hi! I just wanted to drop a headcannon I'm currently finding motivation to write here because I'm still new on the discord server and stated before that I get panicked easily!

Imagine this: Kariage and Katsuki gave each other promise rings in middle school but they lost contact when Katsuki went to UA... Kariage on the other hand, became a popular singer or something and he has lots of fangirls, but despite that he's still loyal to Katsuki and wants to find him again like a modern day Romeo and Juliet. He wears the promise ring and his fans starts to notice and ofc there are *THOSE* fangirls that try and buy matching ones... What they didn't know was that the promise ring Kariage wore had a vow or sentence that only he and Katsuki knew... Now back to Katsuki, he rarely wears the promise ring but he still kept it and polished it and the only ones who realised that Katsuki was wearing the ring were Momo and Deku but they decided to leave it be

OK, now onto how they're reunited...basically the fangirls are getting wild so Kariage finally revealed that he has a lover but won't say who... So one day he decides to have a little concert at UA because they really need something fun (also because he knew Katsuki was there)... He was allowed a tour in the school and let's say, coincidentally Katsuki walks by and Kariage sees him and he grabs Katsuki and makes him turn towards Kariage so he could see his face... As for your little concept - its super cute!! I love thinking of all different types of AUs when it comes to these two, but this one is interesting!! I really do like the concept of Kariage and Katsuki exchanging promise rings (I have a century old concept of Kari proposing to Katsuki at a festival which has been in the works for,,, forever) and the idea of the two of them being in a secret relationship and/or losing contact is!! just!! one of my favorite things to think about, to be honest, because of the sheer amount of possibilities. Especially if you add in some good ol’ Dadzawa, ya feel? 👀

God, I adore the concept of Katsuki and Kariage being together for just everything. Through the good and the bad and everything in between, through tears and laughter and victory and defeat, they’ve been by each other’s side for it all and that’s just perfectly sweet.

The idea of them creating a code just to make sure they never feel unsafe or uncomfortable around each other?? I love it. Just the thought or Katsuki feeling so wrong after the Sludge Villain Incident, constantly flinching from touch and having to choke back the feeling of cold slime sliding down his throat, choking him is so extremely sad. And, Kariage always being on guard becuase he’s been conditioned to expect slaps and hits and hurt from the people meant to love him the most is absolutely heartbreaking.

But, then, Kariage and Katsuki acknowledging that it’s okay to be not okay, and them coming together to make sure neither one of them feels bad with the other boy? Hi, yes, I am crying.

Them knowing each other so well that not even a word has to be spoken for them to understand? I love it. Their safe spaces and little tells and the comfort is so adorable, and I freaking adore how they always make sure it’s okay to hug and hang around the other boy to make sure no boundaries are crossed. They’re both boys who’ve been raised to be strong above all else, and the thought of them knowing they don’t always have to be the pinnacle of strength with each other is so soft.

The rest of the Katsucrew picking up on the little code and starting to use it on the daily is just another bonus that makes this whole concept even better, because here’s this ragtag bunch of kids who’re the exact opposite of perfect - they fight a lot and stumble around each other’s thoughts and feelings and they make mistakes because they’re kids - but they try, and they’re there for each other through the highs and lows and plateaus, and that’s all that matters in the end, isn’t it?

Kariage (undercut-kun) and Bakugou have been dating since middle school, it’s in context that they’ve spent years getting to know each other, working around one another’s insecurities and weaknesses. Kariage especially to Bakugou, after the sludge villain, sports festival, kidnapping, fights, etc., he’s been there.

He and Bakugou devised a code or secret language if you will, right after the sludge villain incident. Two consecutive taps must be done first if you’re going to initiate physical affection towards one another, and wait for 2 seconds if the other is going to shake their head as a no. If not, then the physical touch is welcome. 

This is done to not surprise Bakugou or Kariage at the sudden contact, to not activate their fight or flight response. This stemmed from Bakugou’s traumas of people grabbing him and Kariage with his abusive parents. It’s a simple secret act between the two of them, yet important nonetheless as it shows consent.

Another is four consecutive taps meaning that they feel unsafe or their anxiety is spiking up. No matter where they are or what they’re doing, they stop and try to leave (if they’re with other people) and goes to a certain safe place, like Bakugou’s room or under their tree at the park, until the person feels comfortable again. No questions asked between the two of them, they give the other space or affection depending on the mood and wait until they tap 2 times to signify they’re okay again.

With this, they built trust and boundaries, something Bakugou’s other friends may lack or ignore. They build comfort and protection, because no matter how strong Kariage seems to be, there are times when things become overbearing. They’ve been doing this for years and the other members of the Katsucrew or Aldera Gang (dubbed by @hitheryon) has caught up on their signs and makes it a habit to watch out for those subtle taps initiated to know how to cheer their friends up or to give them time and space.

Kariage and Bakugou know their friends have realized and seen their private codes already and they couldn’t be happier as the signs they use become an unspoken thing between the group. No questions asked, they’re simply there for one another. They might not be perfect, but they’ll go through everything and anything together.

Just?? Kariage on his knees apologizing and crying because he thinks he’s such a coward for not trying to help Katsuki, the person he loves, even if he couldn’t have done anything at all?? Katsuki acknowledging that Kariage valuing his own life was smart and basically telling Kariage he has nothing to apologize for?? Absolute perfection, I love it so much.

And, just?? Katsuki round-a-bout saying that Kariage’s actually brave for facing him, telling Kariage he can make up for his self-perceived sin by choosing Katsuki?? I am deceased, I am sniffling as we speak, this is so freaking adorable.

I love how you have Kariage be so stupefied by Katsuki’s annoucement, like he’s just so legitimately shocked because Katsuki’s choosing him? And their adorable interactions make my heart squeeze so much because they’re just so cute?? Katsuki telling Kariage he’s an ugly-crier, the two having their first kiss, Kari telling Katsuki they’re gonna have so many dates because he’s gonna romance Katsuki right?? The Bakugou’s already knowing their son is crushing hard, Kari knowing Katsuki’s a secret romantic at heart, and the fucking “I’ll make you happy, Katsuki. Katsuki stares at Kariage’s ugly, crying face, then huffs out a breath.

“Running away was the smart thing to do, don’t be an idiot,” he says, crossing his arms over his chest. He watches as Kariage tries, and fails, to wipe away the tears flowing from his eyes. He looks pathetic like this, kneeling before Katsuki in Katsuki’s bedroom, begging for forgiveness for a sin that Katsuki never regarded as one anyway.

Why would Katsuki be angry at Kariage for running away when he’d been captured by the sludge villain? Why would he hold it against him that he prioritized his own life, when Katsuki damn well knew that Kariage didn’t have the strength or power to fight back in the first place?

Katsuki didn’t blame him for anything, and yet, here he was.

Kariage says weakly, “I left, I could’ve at least tried—”

“You’re not strong enough to save me, and I never wanted to be saved anyway,” Katsuki says.

“Is that enough?” Kariage says, frustration written into his knit brows, his clenched jaw, his shaking fists resting over his lap. “Can you honestly say that’s enough, Katsuki? It’s not a matter of saving you, it’s a matter of being a coward.”

“I never said you weren’t. You were a coward.”

I love your characters they are ♥ So what if... What if the class learns 'bout the bullying stuff and they turn away from Katsuki. He's not well after weeks of being ignored by teachers and badtreated by his classmates, Deku is trying to help but he can only do so much. He's struggling to be himself and the Katscrew notice, they notice how much more quiet he's being, and the 2 in UA notice the strange behavior in everyonelse. The final straw is Kat crying his eyes out with Kariage maybe?

Okay, so this is somewhat related to this ask, but I’d 100% be lying if I said I didn’t have a Spiteful (@lawgrain) AU with the Katsucrew 👀

Obviously, considering the story isn’t finished yet and I’ve got a very one-sided view of what’s happening in the fic, the concept’s not fully fleshed out, but it has some very general ideas, of course.

Karaige, Seika, and Henshuu are the first to figure out something’s not quite right. After all, Kariage’s the closest to Katsuki and both Seika and Henshuu are the two in the group who have the best grasp on the emotional situations in the crew. Everyone, even little Kanji, know that Mitsuki and Masaru aren’t the greatest of parents - Mitsuki is abusive in so many ways and Masaru never actually stops it - but this is something else.

Before whatever happened, Katsuki constantly regaled the crew with stories of what happened at UA - the training, the lessons, even the shenanigans that 1A got up to. Then, one day, the stories all but stopped. Katsuki stopped bringing up how Aizawa-sensei was a great teacher who pushed him to his limits, how Shitty Hair and Round Face were awesome sparring parents, how Katsuki was one of the best in all his classes. Now, he barely mentions UA at all, until he starts bringing up a girl named Hatsume.

“She’s crazy as fuck,” Katsuki tells him. “But she’s real.”

It’s subtle, but they know what he means by it. He means that she’s honest with her intentions, doesn’t hide her bad side, but she’s good nonetheless.

It’s only a matter of days when the truth about what’s happening really comes out. It’s not purposeful in any way at all, but Katsuki comes to the Warehouse, pure rage in his eyes as he paces around where the crew is sitting and he launches into a rant about how one his idiotic teachers, Ectoplasm, is fucking with his assignments and grades just to see him fail.

After that, the crew unanimously decided to help.

At the infamous lunch table, Hifue and Mito start sitting with him. They talk and laugh and mess around, not caring about the hateful and confused glares being thrown their way. Mito walks him to his classes, subtly snarking the Hero students that try and trip or shove Katsuki, and Hifue tells him about a plethora of places in UA that could serve as a place he could relax and avoid people in.

Hatsume is there to validate what Katsuki’s going through. She doesn’t defend what he did in middle school, thank God, but she’s there to tells him that what’s happening is wrong. She’s one of the first to tell him that the useless teachers who don’t bother to look further are worms, the one to snarkily deny doing repairs or upgrades on his classmate’s costumes. She’s there to call his mother a hag.

Henshuu’s there when he needs to take his anger out productively. She brings him to the gym she frequents, the one her papá owns, and she holds the punching bags still, and watches as he lifts dumbbells until his arms shake, and spars with him until they can do nothing but flop onto their backs with heaving chests.

Seika, Kanji and Yasushi are there when he needs to relax. They bring him around Musutafu and Tokyo and practically make him have fun. They drag him around newly-opened restaurants at night and fast food places in the early morning, take him to arcades and festivals and the movies, make him tag along as they visit owl cafés and karaoke bars and parks. They make him smile.

And, Kariage? He’s there when Katsuki needs to let go. He’s the one Katsuki turns to when everything gets a little too much, when his mother bruises his cheek and someone calls him a villain one too many times and he gets another bad mark on a perfect assignment. He’s the one Katsuki turns to when he needs to cry, because Kariage won’t make fun of him - he’ll hold him for hours, whisper hundreds of words of affirmation, kiss away his tears.

And, no matter what Deku does or says or tries, the class and teachers will always hate him. If Katsuki didn’t have his crew or Hatsume, maybe it would’ve gotten to him more. But, with them, the situation’s not good, but it’s - it’s better. He can live with it easier, because he’s strong, but the people who love him make him stronger, and that’s all that really matters in the end. 

Pablo, Pablo, oh my God, Pablo. How’s it feel to own my entire heart just by drawing this? I freaking love them and I adore you from drawing this, you talented, amazing, astounding person. I just?? i’m in a kariage/katsuki/yasushi mood so 👁👁👁👁

after the sludge villain incident, they both realize their feelings for katsuki, because he could’ve died. they could’ve lost him.

yasu goes to kariage and tells him that he thinks he likes katsuki. kariage also tells him he likes katsuki. they make a “truce” that they won’t try and “steal” him away from the other.

they start to hang out more, just the two of them, and soon develop feelings for each other too.

one night, they’re goofing around together at kariage’s house, both tipsy. kariage just looked at yasu who laughing his ass off at something. and in that moment kariage found him so pretty. he leaned over and kissed him. yasushi kissed him back.

when they both realized what they just did, they jumped away from each other.

“what the hell was that for?” yasu yelled.

“i don’t know! i looked at you and suddenly we were kissing!” kari hissed at him.

“what about katsuki, huh? we both like him.” yasu asked him.

“apparently we both like each other too!” kariage’s bluntness shut the both of them up immediately, both turning their heads away from each other, face burning.

“....what are we gonna do?” yasu asked after a few moments of awkward silence.

kariage sighed. “i have no idea.”

after that night, things got awkward between them. katsuki could tell something was up, and frankly was sick of the tenseness between them. so he decided to intervene.

“what the fuck is up with you two?” katsuki bluntly asked them, one day while they were all hanging out at katsuki’s house. “did something happen? you two are barely speaking to each other.”

kariage and yasushi’s eyes both widened and the looked at each other before quickly looking away again. “i have no idea what you’re talking about.” yasu said, staring at the game controller in his hand.

“bullshit.” katsuki says. he stands up and takes the controller out of his friends hands. “you two are talking this shit out right now or i swear to god-“

he plops down right onto kariage’s lap and grabs yasushi, dragging his head onto his own lap. “now talk. i’m staying here until you solve your bullshit.”

his two friends faces were as red as can be, yasu trying to bury his face into katsuki’s thighs while kariage did the same with his back.

katsuki let out a sigh, and brought his hand up to run it through yasushi’s hair. “.... we kissed.” kariage’s muffled voice came from behind.

katsuki froze. “was it consensual?” yasu and kari both nodded. “then why is it such a big deal? you two like each other right?” he felt another nod come from the two of them. “then just go out!”

“it’s not that easy.” yasu mumbled. katsuki looked down at his friend, who’s face was still hidden. “why? why is not that easy?”

“....because we like you too.”

everyone stopped. suddenly a burst of laughter came from the blonde. “that’s it? that’s what got you two all freaked out? jesus! you act like two middle school girls!” he said between laughs and giggles. “i like you too dumbasses.” he smiled at his two friends.

yasushi and kariage whipped their heads up to look at the blonde. “seriously?”

“i don’t say shit i don’t mean! of course i like you idiots! you think i’d do this shit with just anyone?” katsuki raised his eyebrows at them, gesturing to the obvious cuddling going on.

kariage and yasushi’s faces became bright red, while simultaneously looking a little constipated. katsuki started laughing at them again. “you two are so stupid oh my god!” he turned and kissed kariage’s cheek, then leaning down kissing yasushi’s cheek too before getting up off of them.

kariage made a strangled noise in the back of his throat while yasushi fell back onto the floor, looking like his brain was reloading.

“up and at ‘em idiots! i’m gonna beat your asses in some mario kart right now.” he tossed the controllers back over to where they sat.

wait, he’s gonna move on? just like that?, kariage thought to himself. “wait! what about us? are we all dating each other now?” kariage called, looking up at the bed where katsuki sat.

“obviously.” he snorted. “...unless, you’re uncomfortable with that and i read the situation wrong.” his cheeks pinkened and he looked down at the bed, playing with his fingers.

“no!” yasushi yelled. immediately getting embarrassed, he tried to cover up his eagerness with a cough. “i mean... no. you didnt read the situation wrong. i’m okay with us all dating.” he looked at kariage, who just hummed in agreement.

katsuki bit the insides of his cheeks to conceal his smile and looked back up at them. “good. now get your asses up here! i’m gonna demolish you.” he swung his own game controller in front of them.

kariage snorted. “not if i beat you first!” he jumped up onto the bed, lightly elbowing his boyfriend. holy shit. they’re boyfriends. he has two boyfriends.

“id like to see you try!” katsuki elbowed him back.

“10 dollars that kat wins.” yasushi calls, slowly making his way on the bed.

kariage gave an overdramatic gasp, looking completely offended. “excuse you! i’m great at mario kart!”

“kari, babe, i love you, but you’re absolutely atrocious at mario kart.” yasu pats his boyfriends head.

katsuki snorts. “yaoi hands is right! you suck!”

yasushi squawked at hearing that new nickname. “YAOI HANDS?!?!?!?”

kariage burst into laughter. “YAOI HANDS- THATS THE BEST ONE IVE HEARD SO FAR! KATSU YOU ABSOLUTE GENIUS!” he leaned over and kissed his temple.

katsuki turned red and giggled, while yasu sulked. “we’ve been dating for 5 minutes and you two are already ganging up on me.” he turned his back on his boyfriends, fake pouting.

katsuki grabbed the back of yasushi’s shirt, pulling him backwards, causing him to land right back into katsuki’s lap. “aww boo hoo.” he jokingly mocked, leaning down and kissing his forehead.

and that’s how the night went on. the three of them having fun, being teenagers, and finally together. katsuki is so happy. they’re all so, so happy. and they wouldn’t change a thing in the world

kariage and bakugou haven’t talked in a long time. after katsuki went to UA they lost contact and stopped talking to each other even though they were best friends. until one day katsuki is out with the bakusquad plus the rest of 1A. they’re at the mall just looking around having a fun time. until someone pushed bakugo. they were just messing around but he got caught off balance and fell. and landed in someone’s arms. he looks up and sees kariage who has changed so much but is still the same old bad boy he definitely didn’t have a crush on. but he caught him like his knight in shining armor.

“guess you’ve fallen for me huh”

and all katsuki can do is blush while he stares at those dark brown eyes that used to be so familiar.

If you guys catch me replying to asks like a month late, no you didn’t <33 No, but, for real, I love this. Like, Katsuki and Kariage losing contact despite being best friends is just so sad and real, because you know it had to have affected Katsuki a lot. After all, they’d been friends since they were kids, add Katsuki’s obvious need for affection and desire to be understood onto that and Katsuki’s probably feeling pretty shitty. But, since there’s no way to get back into contact with Kari, he’s left feeling so lonely, not that he’d ever willingly admit it. And, on some random day, he’s out with the idiot brigade and the rest of his loser class at the mall. And, like always, they’re always so touchy-feely. He doesn’t understand how they could just poke and nudge and shove at each other so easily when touch, for Katsuki, hasn’t felt right in a whole year. Hasn’t felt good or safe and warm, which is why he dodges, ducks, bends away from the wayward, wandering hands of his classmates. And, then, out of nowhere, Shitty Hair knocks into him. Katsuki knows immediately that it wasn’t purposeful - unlike the other idiots, Kirishima knows to respect his boundaries, and he doesn’t go out of his way to tease and touch him when Katsuki obviously doesn’t want it - because Shitty Hair jolts away right after and opens his mouth to apologize. It doesn’t matter, though, because Katsuki’s already tripped forward and he’s falling and -

Someone catches him.

It wasn’t necessary, of course. Katsuki’s a Hero-in-training, he would’ve easily been able to regain his own balance if some random stranger wasn’t there to grab onto his waist and steady him. So, Katsuki straightens and looks up, already preparing to step back and put space between himself and the hands on him, and stops.

Because the person who caught Katsuki isn’t a stranger, and the feeling of the not-stranger’s hands on him suddenly don’t make him feel like bugs are crawling under the surface of his skin, doesn’t make him feel cold, doesn’t make him feel wrong. No, the touch feels nice, and the sheer surprise of that is what makes Katsuki stutter when he blurts out the name of the not-stranger, who’s hands are gripping him protectively: “K - Kariage?”

Kariage, the boy Katsuki used to visit arcades with, used to tell off for his nasty smoking habit, used to laugh with, used to love. Kariage, smelling of smoke and leather and the cheap vanilla cologne he used to wear back in middle school, with his messy undercut and pierced ears and half-lidded eyes, caught Katsuki. He grins down at the blond-haired boy, smug in a way Katsuki has missed, and huffs out a short laugh.

“Guess ya fell for me, huh?” he teases, dark eyes sparkling with mirth, and Katsuki can do nothing but fall in love all over again.

Like, I’ve always really loved the concept of Person A getting into a relationship with Person B, but all of Person A’s friends/family don’t like Person B for some reason, because it is prime angst material. After all, who wants to chose between a lover and friends/family - they’re all people you love, just in different ways, but it hurts that none of them can get along for reasons you can’t understand.

And, the class not being the ones to like Kariage? Perfection. I love it. Just, the fact that the kids are Heroes-in-training, people who’re supposed to be the epitome of good, and yet they still make mistakes. They see Kari, in all his delinquent-esque self, with his cigarettes and piercings, and they immediately don’t like him, don’t even think to look past that to see his true, kind and funny nature. Add in their jealously from just how close Katsuki is to this two-bit thug, and you’ve got some serious animosity that they don’t even bother to try and hide.

And, oh my gosh, when Kirishima was the ome to overhear Kariage comforting Katsuki? Boom, my heart was hurting. Because, Kiri was supposed to be one of Katsuki’s friends, how didn’t he realize that he was hurting him?

But, I just love how the class, after hearing what happened from Kiri, make efforts to change their ways. They give Kariage a chance, and, yeah, he’s an absolute asshole, but he’s also funny and kind and he loved Katsuki so fucking much, and that’s something they all share with Kariage.

And him being best friends with Shinsou and Tokoyami (and, maybe Jirou to complete to Goth Squad 👀) is absolute gold, I freaking adore it.

The first time Kariage met the class they didn’t really like him. They kind of respected him for the way he could calm Katsuki down but the feelings of jealousy inside of them made it almost impossible to see just how kind and genuine he was. Along with that, they just didn’t think he was good for Katsuki’s image. The guy just looked like an absolute dickhead, and he fucking smoked, for gods sake. 

Their animosity disappeared the moment they overheard Katsuki talking to Kariage about it, though. 

It was Kirishima that heard them. Kariage was staying in the dorms for the night and Kirishima was just walking downstairs to get something to drink, but just as he was about to turn the corner and step into the common room he heard some sniffles and a deep, raspy voice.

“Come on, babe, you’re worryin’ ‘bout this way more than I am.”

“Shut the fuck up, it’s stupid, I know, but I just want you all to get along, I’m fucking tired of everyone talking shit about you everywhere we go and I’m tired of the looks and the way everyone’s arguing.”

“You’re too sweet, baby, just ignore ‘em.”

Kirishima ignored the sound of kisses being pressed against Katsuki’s face and he just went back to his room and sent a message after making a groupchat without Katsuki in it.

Guys, we fucked up.

After telling them what he heard the class changed immediately, they realized they’ve been absolute assholes and completely inconsiderate. They start to spend more time with Kariage, getting to know him and hanging out with him and straight away they fall in love with the guy. He’s a bit of a dick sometimes, sarcastic and with a dry sense of humour, but every time he talks about Katsuki his eyes light up and he gets this sappy smile on his face and they can’t dislike him after seeing that.

The person he gets along the best with is Tokoyami though, and later on Shinsou. They get together and revel in their goth/emo/punk aesthetics.

QUIRK

Seika’s Quirk is called Cyan Spiral. It’s an Emitter-type Quirk that lets her create fast-moving, flexible spirals of blue-tinted condensed air starting from her shoulders going outward. However, as her Quirk affects the pressure, movement, and quality of the air around her, she has trouble breathing while using it.

PERSONALITY

Seika is a very sweet and academically smart girl. While social situations tend to fluster and confuse her, she's able to discern emotions of the people closest to her very well, often being one of the first to notice if one of the Katsucrew is feeling off. She's also a loving girl, going out of her way to cheer people up and also being one to appreciate the little things in life.

However, Seika is also fiercely protective of the Katsucrew and her little sister, wanting nothing bad to happen to them. She learned martial arts in middle school and how to incorperate her knowledge of plant life into medicinal studies for the sole purpose of protecting and helping others. This is also indicative of how determined she is, as Seika does all she can to further her Rescue Hero studies, so she can be one of the best.

RELATIONSHIPS

Partner(s)

Kate Mito is Seika’s girlfriend. The two are childhood friends and have been together since the second-to-last year of elementary school. They love the other very much and spend as much time together as possible, often spending hours testing out support gear and baking together.

Shioawa Henshuu is Seika’s queerplatonic partner. They met in the first year of junior high and became very close friends. The two now attend the same Hero school, training for hours afterschool to help each other better their techniques and studying together.

Family

Daikikou Itsuyo (大輝煌厳与) is Seika’s mother. She’s a rather strict woman, often criticizing Seika’s grades, relationships, and aspirations. However, she does love her daughter, just not in a traditional way that’s shown outright.

Daikikou Bennosuke (大輝煌勉之助) is Seika’s father. He’s a hardworking man that isn’t often home as a result of being employed at a top Hero Agency in Hokkaido. However, he loves his children greatly, calling Seika and her siblings at least twice a week and setting aside time to visit once a month.

Daikikou Tomo (大輝煌登喪) is Seika’s older brother. She doesn’t know much of him, since he’s worked overseas as a Hero in America since she was young, but she admires him greatly from the stories her parents tell of him.

Daikikou Iru (大輝煌威瑠) is Seika’s little sister. She’s a demanding yet loveable kid that loves to bake and garden with Seika, have playdates with Kanji, and read the fantasy, botanical, and baking books Seika keeps stacked around her room.

Friends

Bakugou Katsuki is one of Seika’s best friends. They knew each other since they were kids, having lived in the same area, but didn’t become friends until the last year of elementary school. They share an intense love for Heroics, and both enjoy hiking, making food together, and training on the weekends.

Agei Ashikari, or Kariage, is one of Seika’s best friends. It took some time for the two to really become close on account of their wildly different personalities, but once they clicked, nothing could keep them from being friends. The two share a love for the least appreciated parts of Heroics, often pairing up together in school along with Henshuu.

Dehisa Yasushi is one of Seika’s friends. While they don’t have all that much in common, they enjoy each other’s unique brand of humor. They have tutoring sessions with the rest of the Katsucrew at least once every week, and Seika often visits the Yasushi family konbini since they, in her words, make the best melonpan.

Obuki Hifue is one of Seika’s friends. As the two of them are the least troublesome of the Katsucrew, they’ve become adept at getting their friends out of trouble and having fun along the way. They bond over their shared social introversion and their love for reading.

Minor Characters

Shou Kazahiko (翔風彦), also known as Buster Hero: Air Jet, the 68th Ranked Pro Hero, is Seika’s Japanese History teacher at Moushou Academy. He’s a rather casual teacher who helps his students as much as he can, making him Seika’s favorite teacher.

Nekoshima Myouou (猫島妙嫗) is Seika’s boss at the cat café she works at. As an older woman, she cares for Seika and the Katsucrew like they’re family, and often offers advice to the struggling teens when they need it. Seika also appreciates the motherly vibe she emanates, as her relationship with her own mother is rather strained.

Ukichirou Takanohashi (鷹嘴烏吉朗) is Seika’s cousin. He attended Aldera Junior High in the same class with Seika. The two share curly hair and rounded eyes but not much else, and neither really wish to have a closer familal relationship to the disappointment of Seika’s mother.

Shinsou Hitoshi is one of Seika’s acquaintances. While they don’t know much about each other, they met when Shinsou wandered into the Black Cat Café on Seika’s shift. The two bonded rather quickly, often teasing each other over their opposing pet preferences and having hours-long conversations over coffee and pastries about Heroics.
