Where Every Scroll is a New Adventure
This was for a school project and I think it turned out pretty good.
PLEASE THIS WAS THE FUNNIEST LINE IN THE EPISODE OK đź’€
Janine: I'm not a mushroom!
June: ... okay?
Drew this back in December 2022 and finished it on April 13, 2024.
I wanted to draw the Commanders of Gilead from Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale in Countryhuman style. I wanted to make them as accurate as possible. *Yes, I also added Donald Trump because for my headcanon I'm working on for the Hulu series' alternate history, he's a Commander in Gilead* I previously drew my first Gilead design back in November 2022. At first, I liked it but now I don’t like the head since most Countryhumans have round heads like Countyballs. So, when I drew the Commanders, I wanted to make them more human-like heads than round but keep the style of Countryhumans like the white eyes
Commander Fred Waterford played by Joseph Fiennes
Commander Nick Blaine played by Max Minghella
Commander Joseph Lawerence played by Bradley Whitford
Commander Andrew Pryce played by Robert Curtis Brown
Commander Warren Putnam played by Stephen Kunken
Commander MacKenzie played by Jason Butler Harner
Commander Donald Trump as himself *obviously*
Commander George Winslow played by Christopher Meloni
Drew this a while back on November 22, 2022. This is the Republic of Gilead or simply just Gilead. He’s the fictional country from Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale. I wanted to draw him as a Countryhuman since I saw how popular the fandom is. I joined in to draw Gilead in CH style and gave him a bio. The person I based him on is Commander Fred Waterford, played by Joseph Fiennes.
For those who don’t know much about The Handmaid’s Tale, it’s based on the 1985 novel by Margaret Atwood. It’s set in a dystopia where the world suffers from low birth rates due to pollution that causes a fertility crisis. In the US, a Christian fundamentalist group called the Sons of Jacob or SOJ, a Puritan Christian group, violently did a coup in Washington DC on President's Day, by killing the President, Congress, and the rest of the Cabinet, to overthrow the US government. They seized power and transformed the former US into the Republic of Gilead, a totalitarian patriarchal Christian theocracy that rules most of the former continental US. They strip away women’s rights and make them handmaids to be impregnated by their Commanders, who are the leaders of Gilead, for their barren wives. Their laws are based on the Bible, mainly the Old Testament for the authoritative laws against women.
In the Hulu series, it does the same element as the book but it is set in an alternate 2014 where the SOJ did the coup in Washington DC on September 11, 2014, by staging a terrorist attack to kill President Obama, Congress, and the Cabinet. The SOJ blamed the attack on Islamic extremist groups for the attack, quite possibly ISIS at the time of 2014. They then removed women's rights by first firing them, leaving them unemployed, freezing their bank accounts, not allowed to own property, and finally a nationwide abortion ban. All of these led to a 2nd Civil War from 2014 to 2017, as the setting for Season 1 of the series.
I already finished watching the series back in February 2023. I'm still waiting for the release of Season 6, which won't come out until next year due to the writer's strike last year. My mom got me hooked to watch this show. I mainly watched it for its alternate history since it talked about a fictional 2nd American Civil War.
It's a good show to watch. I highly recommend watching it as it parallels how US politics are right now.

I started watching the handmaid's tale and I can't stop thinking if they wanted kids why didn't they use IVF and surrogacy?? This was in the 21st century so I am sure they must have the technology.
here. this.
There are so many things to love about the Nick and June scene this episode. I, for one, was worried that Nick was never going to be able to hold his baby so I was relieved that he gets to hold Holly
I also love the parallel of this scene to when June tells Nick she’s pregnant in 1x10
Their absolute adoration of their daughter and their genuine happiness at being together with her alone in a moment without Fred, without Serena
June finally, finally verbalizing that she loves Nick
But also, I love that they’re both feeling this love and joy and they’re both processing it differently. June is just letting herself be in that moment with no guilt or reservations or self-admonishment. She’s with a man she’s in love and their child and she’s happy and in that moment carefree
and it took her a while to get to that space
whereas Nick is so happy and so in love and he realizes that neither June nor Holly can stay there
he’s making a plan in his head at that exact moment, he’s going to do everything in his power to ensure that neither of them perish in that house and in GIlead
and he’s saying goodbye
every-fucking-single conservative woman ever these days
Serena Joy is also an allegory of the right-wing/conservative anti-feminist woman’s tendency to take the freedoms and rights that their feminist foremothers fought and died for, for granted.Â
She took for granted:
Her freedom to get an education and later become an author
Her ability to take on a leadership role in a movementÂ
The concept of equal partnership with her husband
Having original ideas for a movement and being credited with them
She thought the idea of “the good old days” sounded good in theory but she failed to realize in practice she’d lose everything that makes her Serena.
the fucking complexity of this character and the phenomenal acting. phew.
You’re weak, and God wouldn’t let you pass on that weakness. You could never father a child because you’re not worthy.
Fancast Felicia Hardy aka Black Cat ptII
Madson Beer
25 years old/nort-american/1,68 height. Honestly i can't say anything about her acting, but she has ambition, determination, charisma and lips . A femme fatale who also knows how to be soft, she balances herself in whatever the moment demands without losing herself (much like an anti-heroine) If there's one thing she knows, it's retaining the public's attention.
Even the poor finger for a man is canonical, in addition to that she understands and can help with the visual audio of the character and general scenario and if everything is talked about correctly there will even be a song for the film, being a public figure the marquetin would be easily elaborated
Sabrina Carpent
24 years old/nort-american/1,51 heigth
"All because I liked a boy and" sorry was stronger than me
But seriously, apart from her huge career, because she is a great actress, in short, very talented and exudes confidence in all her femininity, but what I want to highlight is the impact of music and the beef with Olivia, I present two points
positive: it would help her experience of being seen as the villain just for being the "other woman" in the construction of the character and in deconstructing this misogenous thought that there is only room for one woman in any position or scenario .
negative: this whole talk could have a negative influence if stupid people associate the image that the media made of her with the character, it could actually create more female and ship intrigue than usual
Felicia Jones
39/40 years old/British/1,60 height
What can I say? Her name is already Felicia!
I have an emotional attachment to her, she is the star of the afternoon sessions, stable career, good humor, elegance even when dressed in simple costumes, there is no small role for her, and she transcends her characters while maintaining her registered emotional brand.
As a romantic pair or anti-heroine I think TAMS was a robbery, they deprived us of the experience of having our Black Cat with Andrew and speaking of chemistry these two got an A+ from what I could see in the deleted scenes I'm hungry for more interactions, but hope ladies and gentlemen the war has not been won, may the force be with us (rogue one)
Maybe we have a part 3 soo gets your though, whos prefer??
Handmaid’s Tale
like the giver but about sex
trying to “protect” women but just 100% turns them into objects
removes the beauty and partnership from marriage leaving it cold and dead
poignant look at trauma and how past weaves into the present and the present is numb
“it didn’t happen that way either. I’m not sure how it happened. Not exactly.”
creates so much shame
juxtaposition of night with commander vs night with Nick. Nick even gets a name
The Testaments
“One person alone is not a full person: we exist in relation to others.”
"an interrogation of faith and institutional religion, how it affects how we view ourselves and others and the world around us, even in ways that we might not realize, and how hard it is to deconstruct beliefs that we have incorporated into who we are, both harmful ones, and harmless ones, and what that can feel like for someone."
