Where Every Scroll is a New Adventure
How far can a person bend before they break and how long can the broken be wielded before they turn double edged?
This season was so devastatingly beautiful, but ironically, the metaphorical crown wouldn't be heavy if the gemstones didn't dig into the head of the wearer.
Sometimes, the line between mercy and cruelty can be thin.
The reason WHY Claudia resonates so deeply with Aaravos' story is because it's a mirror that she finds herself in. She IS the daughter in the story but not the one who pays the price. No, that was paid by her father... her father, who was brave enough to do what Aaravos couldn't. What's heartbreaking is that she doesn't even realize what she's discarding is the same thing Viren chose to embrace in death; his humanity.
The loss portrayed was so unsettling...
To even the loss we felt as the audience, seeing what made Viren who he was... his own son, to seeing what he made himself and the loss of what could've been and how his death proved the one thing we didn't want him to show... him having a human heart. And that's what this show did magnificently... it made this audience root for people against our will.
From the unfinished story of the lovers forever frozen in time to the mournful ballad rayla sang to console the stormbringer.
The only thing left to see is how these weapons charecters are to be utilized.
How callum will embrace his darkness and if Rayla will be able to kill him if need be. Or if promises will not be the only things to be broken next time.
spoilers under cut, unorganized long-ass essay because it do be 4am and i have many thoughts and no one awake to listen to them. brief content warning about abuse but no details, just mentioned:
ok season 5 was better but this wasn't terrible. I still have no idea how they pull the Y7 rating with all the blood. I'm both appalled and impressed. And also some of that other stuff too. . . with like the wash-down with Claudia and Terry. . . damn idk that seems a little over Y7 to me but go off I guess.
TERRY YOU DESERVE BETTER. That whole thing just gives me flashbacks to my buddy's abusive relationship (minus voodoo) and I just want to scream at him to GTFO before it's too late. is this gonna be some reverse joker thing? idk. bad vibes.
Why they brought Viren back just to kill him was dumb but damn it was fun to see Claudia go so unhinged in ep 1.
who tf wrote the Rayllum part of this season because HOLY FANFICTION BATMAN THERE WAS ONLY ONE BLANKET. ALSO WAS THAT ONE END CREDITS SKETCH AT THE END OF EP 9 AGED RAYLLUM WITH A KID?!?!??! WAS THAT REAL?!?!? DAMN. WOW. (Edit: while that shot in particular upon looking at it again is maybe Rayla and her parents because the dude has pointed ears. . . but then if that's the case. . . why doesn't he have horns? that shot is super weird i wonder if the art dept. made a mistake and if not I have a thousand questions.)
Regarding that, does that mean final season time skip? Uncertain. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I hope not. timeskip for JUST the final season when the problems are here and now makes no sense at all. (Edit: again, clearly no skip if that''s the parents but also WHERE ARE THE HORNS. HOW COULD YOU FORGET THE HORNS YOU HAD ONE JOB GUYS I'M PRETTY SURE THERE ARE NO HORNS ON THAT GUY).
regarding rayllum tho, this season, it felt too much like fan service honestly? especially that dumbass ship monologue it was so dumbbbbbbbbbbbbbb i hated that. I DID like that Callum finally confronted the whole dark magic thing with Rayla. Interesting to see where he goes from here. Aaravos doesn't need him as a vessel with claudia around but he might still try to mess with him now that he's free. I did like the resolution and where it eventually ended up but that part of the build up was just KILLER (derogatory)
Props to Rayla and her 3 dads I love it, I thought that resolution made sense. Her parents had each other but Runaan can't move on without Ethari and I respect being that down bad for a man. Regarding the rep. . . who else is seeing something with Soren and Corvis? I think they could be on to something there. or not. I wouldn't mind either way, we need more caring friendships shown between men in media. the show has plenty of rep without it, so to me I think it works either way. tho I will say that's my opinion as a straight person so maybe others feel differently?
Janaya wedding was lit, but I have thoughts on Amaya: namely, why have we stopped showing so much of her ASL? I think it's dope?!?! bring it back please I want to see the signs AND hear Gren, not just Gren. Amaya's face is very important to expressing her character, ESPECIALLY being a Deaf woman communicating in ASL!! I would like to see it when she is communicating, it's a part of the language!! So the rainbow rep was great, the Deaf rep needs a liiiiiiiittle more revising. Not that I'm Deaf. I've just worked in/with the community before. Maybe the Deaf have a different opinion.
Aaravos and the unicorn being his kid was a twist. they got me and I'm IMPRESSED. also the thing with the diamond, now THAT was a good fake-out. wow. impressed over here. i knew it wasn't gonna be so easy for Rayla but also I didn't anticipate it going in that direction. props to them for that, though they did NOT get me with the prison swap. that was so telegraphed it might as well have had a sign saying SUSPICIOUS plastered over it.
big star man. big. was not expecting so large. wow. that's it that's the thought.
some of the line delivery was kinda bad, specifically that aaravos laughing. bro. who approved that goofy-ass depression laugh bc it clearly wasn't the same person who green-lit Claudia being so deranged. also idk why the animation felt so bad but wow i hated it this time around most of the time. backgrounds and lighting were excellent though.
The whole Sol Regam thing kicked ass tho he whooped him GOOD. I cannot take it fully seriously tho bc Aaravos's vessel is named Pharos, which I conveniently forgot and had to PAUSE THE SHOW bc there's a print software I work with at my job also called Pharos and I was laughing my ass off. that's not the showrunners' fault tho.
Ezran is good. even his rebuff of viren was good and in character for who he is I think. he's not about to execute him, but he isn't about to give him mercy or forgive him. I think that makes sense for a man in support of peace and love. letting him live in prison IS mercy in a way, but viren was a piece of crap to Ezran. he didn't have to be kind about showing his mercy. I think that's the right thing for him to do. I respect it. Overall I'm impressed about how true he remains to his ideals. Ezran for president.
the family talk was awesome. I loved that in ep 5. its hard to deal with family members who have supposedly "changed" after they've abused you. I felt Soren's pain fr. I did like that Viren finally did become a servant to Katolis one last time. . . ok maybe if they didn't do the death fakeout last season I would have been fine with him this season.
so, things I liked. things I didn't. I am curious how it will all resolve next year. (none of my edits reflect my ranking but damn. i can't believe they forgot the horns. damn. wow. they're not there right?!?! am I blind?!?!)
... is Callum going to use dark magic to trap Aaravos in a coin? In the s6 finale he picks up Runaan's coin, and Rayla found K'ppar's coin earlier last season- what if they use the remaining quasar diamond to free him, Callum learns the spell and succumbs to the dark magic- what if that's the choice thats the sacrifice HOLY SHIT
Callum 'I would do anything for you.' Rayla 'pick the greater good.' What if the greater good is him giving himself over to darkness, what if the greater good means he needs to be the one to trap Aaravos forever.
What if Claudia comes around instead, leaving the path she thought her father wanted her to follow-making her way back to Terry and betraying Aaravos in one fell swoop.
The theme of book 7 is literally 'sacrifice' and is probably going to be titled Dark since the other seasons have the primal magic names already. I am so fucking hyped
Some very fast, very self indulgent ruthari from my sketch book
So um I am aware that all I do is draw Hubert and Ferdinand Fire Emblem making out but the 6th season of The Dragon Prince has awoken something in my soul and I just want to warn anyone who enjoys this blog at all that there will be art of Runaan and Ethari in the future. They basically taught me how to draw men five years ago and if I don’t draw them now I will die
I finally caught back up on The Dragon Prince, and I gotta say, I'm glad the newer seasons got rid of that odd and awkward pacing and writing issue that the fourth season had.
Also... (MAJOR SPOILERS FOR THE DRAGON PRINCE SEASON 3, 5, & 6)
Not me crying while Viren sacrificed himself to cast the cinder heart spell. Damn-
Not me also crying during Aaravos' flashback with his daughter, oh my god. They really had to have him tell her to 'close her eyes', didn't they? (Also, I'm not the only one who suspects Leola had autism, right?)
I also didn't expect how much blood was in these two seasons. WOW. What age is this series geared towards again? TV-Y7? First Viren gets stabbed in the chest in season 3, now there's a bunch of blood spread in a ritualistic rite for dark magic? Yikes! (Also, in season 3, Soren stabbed Viren in the heart, right? Now Soren has Viren perform dark magic that requires a rune in his heart. Coincidence? I don't think so.)
Oh, but I love this series. I cannot believe that they actually got me to care about Viren, though.
I also gotta say, I love that none of my theories end up being right. I have so many every season, and then the story just keeps taking a left turn to somewhere completely different.
Anyway, now I'm just gonna sit in a box like a cat and wait for the next season.
do you think corvus has ever helped ezran to brush his hair, because when the boy was little he didn’t like them tamed in any way and now that he changed his mind with age there is no father to teach him how to do this, even though it was him that passed on the unruly curls onto the kid?
do you think soren has ever helped ezran to put his ceremonial armor on, because there are harrow’s old ones stored in the castle that now the boy is slowly growing into, but there are so many parts and straps and layers and poor kid has no idea what to do with all of them?
do you think corvus and soren have ever whispered in some secluded place about it, because this is their king they’re talking about - and it feels so improper to discuss him having problems and insecurities, but at the same time he is a child and he should be allowed to behave like one and learn things - and also because they love the kid so much but neither of them is allowed to say it out loud?
when terry started cleaning up his girl in the lake, scrubbing her with the sponge, i was wondering if i had walked in on something i wasn’t supposed to see because WHY THE FUCK DID THAT LOOK SO INTIMATE
i just KNOW book six: stars is gonna reveal that callum’s related to aaravos via dad’s side of the family and it’s going to be the source of all kinds of drama.
You chose the blindfold.
the brain got thinking…
s4 rayla said something about all of them making it out or being safe and just being super worried about everyone’s well being (been a hot minute since i’ve watched s4) and it just sounded — and i thought i read somewhere from another user with a similar theory — like it came from personal experience. and how stella was found alone and she just adopted the lil thing. and for some reason i got thinking…
okay, hear me out
rayla’s venturing through xadia or wherever and she comes across a(n elf?) girl not too much younger than herself. they just kinda run into each other in the wild — elf girl is running from undisclosed reasons and rayla’s is obvious — and elf girl is like “hey! let’s stick together!” and it’s like golden retriever/black cat duo.
but of course, as they journey they become super tight and along the way the elf girl finds stella and is like “LET’S ADOPT HER. I SHALL NAME YOU STELLA.” anyway they’re venturing, something something somethinggg, and then suddenly they’re ambushed by elves hunting down elf girl. elf girl is frantic and like “we gotta go” and rayla is confused/concerned. as the three are fleeing from the elves, an arrow hits elf girl to the point rayla is supporting her as they flee. but the ambushers are closing in and she’s slowing rayla and stella down so elf girl looks at rayla straight in the eyes and says “you need to unal1ve me.”
of course, rayla’s like “fuck no!” but elf girl starts telling her that she’s only slowing them down. the ambushers are after her because she knows too much, is too much — descended from the first ones (but she doesn’t say that) — and it’s better for her to d1e then and there than for the ambushers to find her and do something so much worse. she’s begging her to, forcing her to promise her she’ll go back to that human mage she knows rayla’s absolutely smitten with, promise to take care of stella, promise to end her now before something worse comes for her.
and rayla keeps that promise.
elf girl is bleeding out to death and rayla and stella are gone in the foresty expanse of xadia or whatever. it haunts rayla in the back of her mind, and then at full force in season six when suddenly dots start connecting like stars in a constellation and she’s forced to admit what happened. to callum. to her friends. to the new city of elven folk they encounter up in that new location where the nova blade is (memory is fading i’m sorry).
everything begins to make so much sense now.
