Where Every Scroll is a New Adventure
ok, hear me out. I’m thinking of writing a Love, Simon kind of thing, but with Parkner. I can imagine it really well, but would it be good?
Did I just read this entire book in literally one sitting? You fucking bet I did. What I have not done is sleep... It's 4 am.........
Just finished watching "Love, Simon". It's a beautiful story. The point especially where Simon mentioned how he hated it that only gay people had to come out, not the heteros. I mean, we all have lived with common standards for so long that everything different either stands out or just becomes a brave story for us to feel proud of. Can't they be just another story? Can't they be simply them? The thing is, we don't let them. They are all same as us, only difference is that they like John not Betty, or they like Shein not Randall- but who they like puts them into a whole new category for us. Because now they have to conform to the "gay" standards to prove their sexual orientation to us. I often think, why do we need people to do this and that just so they can be it for themselves? Or that why people need to be either this person or that person? Why not bits of everything they want to be or are? Being a human, a person, a complexity in itself is a beautiful puzzle- but why does it always have to be in colours we can see?! Why can't it be in shades we've never known, heard of, seen, smelt or even felt on the skin? Why can't it just be?
3 years & 2 days ago i watched love simon in theaters, and 2 days ago i finished reading simon vs the homo sapiens agenda, then tonight i watched love simon again since the first time i ever watched it.
theres something so beautiful in consuming an old piece of media that’ll make your mind revert back to the time you were first introduced to that media. it’s the way it makes you want to buy those halloween oreos with the orange filling because it makes you feel connected to the film by you casually referencing it. it’s the way you end up following the cast members on social media and look up to them, remembering that it all started because of one film you watched as a teen. it’s the way some of your favorite songs come from the movie’s soundtrack and you’ll listen to it from time to time but every now and then the specific scene it was played during will pop into your mind. to put it simply, nostalgia is beautiful. but if we’re going in depth, it’s the way rewatching one movie reverts you back to the first time you saw it, amongst reverting back to your other favorite shows at the time, and the friends you hung out with and the hobbies you had and the way your home life was and yourself. it’s you reliving the person you were during that time and not realizing how special it was gonna be years later. or maybe you did and your future self is thanking you for actually cherishing the moment.
nostalgia is a beautiful thing. 20gayteen was a treasurable year. love simon was great and simon vs the homo sapiens agenda was better at that. i’m glad i finally finished the book 3 yrs later and now look, i’m watching the second season of the movie’s spinoff series later this year. i’m so in love with being queer. the overall queerness of this all is a beautiful thing too. how fun to be nostalgic of your young queer self during an important year for queer media and an important year for your queer identity..
One thing I noticed:
Simon from love, Simon doesn't have his older sister in the movie.
Charlie from heartstopper doesn't have his little brother in the series.
Alex from Red, White & Royal Blue doesn't have a sister in the movie.
So basically queer charactere have to loose a sibling when becoming TV characters? Is this how it works?
Okay so I just saw Love, Simon for the first time and right before it started I yelled "So are we all gay here or what?"
And I swear to god the entire fucking theatre erupted, like they'd been waiting for someone to ask and it was just priceless
A subcategory of movies that makes me soft and very hopeful
Realistic, diverse, funny, heartwarming teen Rom-Coms that actually treat their main characters as they are, teenagers. Complete with wonderful chemistry between the lead and the love interest that is just so sweet every time
So me and some of my friends went to go see Love, Simon a couple of weeks ago and for some reason they weren’t playing it. Naturally we were mad and confused but went to see a different movie. As we were waiting in the front area for popcorn and stuff I realized that there were a lot of Christian buses outside dropping people off, apparently a new Christian movie was playing but then it clicked. Love, Simon was cancelled that night because it was playing at the same time as the other movie. Now I do live in a country ass place and while it didn’t really suprise me it’s so stupid. It’s not like we were going to be in the same theater but they still called ahead and said they didn’t want the movie to play because there’s was. I don’t have issue with religion or religious people, I respect them very much but when you do something like that, I can get why people start to dislike them. 🤦🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️
