Where Every Scroll is a New Adventure
LAZARUS (2025) dir. watanabe shinichiro ✴ action supervisor chad stahelski
From Lazarus, the latest anime by the director of Cowboy Bebop.
It’s crazy how one episode can change your entire perspective on a story or character. Growing up is realising Dr. Skinner is the good guy and humanity are the bad guys.
Dude dedicated his entire life to the betterment and advancement of the human race, didn’t even patent all the lifesaving medicines and inventions he made and genuinely would give the shirt off his back to a stranger, yet the moment he started preaching about shit that would impact the top 1 percent’s profits like combatting climate change, everyone laughed at and ignored him. The dude lauded as the next Einstein who had done so much for the world, but you doubt him on this lmao. The US walking out of that UN assembly speech on climate change had me cracking up because it’s sadly all too real.
Wiping out humanity with a miracle drug might seem a little harsh, but in Skinner’s mind he’s not doing anything humanity aren’t already doing to themselves. He told them The North Pole is literally gonna melt in 3 years which would mean the end of life as we know it and they ignored em but want to act all scared after he revealed that a drug would do the same 😂 yea we stand with Skinner.
The Lazarus crew are coming together well, Axel continues to be funny af. “We’re like the avengers”, uh more like the thunderbolts or suicide squad actually buddy lol. Christine kicking him out the car when he said how much time he was serving in prison had me dying too. Generally felt like a set up episode to introduce us to Lazarus team dynamic and give context on Skinner’s actions. It was fun tho.
Chad Stahelski’s involvement starts with this episode as well, not a ton of fights today, but you could see the influence briefly. Can’t wait to see what they cook up later.
A trans character and black character in my seasonal anime bonding over the discrimination they’ve faced??? HELLO?!! This means the world to me. Thank you Watanabe. Always been an ally.
i did something a litttttle different this time around and made a whole youtube video <3
MAN that was a workout but I wanted to draw every character at least once if not just for future reference! I've got like 3,000 hours on this game over the course of eight years and I think I may be playing it for the rest of my life
Think I might make a portrait mod 🤔
Shoutout to my friends for helping me through my eye style crisis
Lazarus: The Complete Hardcover Collection Volumes 1, 2 & 3 In the not too distant future, the 18 richest families of the world get together and divide up the world. Governments soon fall, and these families become the leaders of the world. People are broken down into three classes. Family (those who rule), Serf (those who have been chosen by the family to serve the family) and Waste (those who have no association with the family). As you can guess, most belong to the 3rd class. Along with their fighting units, each family has a Lazarus; a warrior specifically designed to be the ultimate fighter. They are strong, cunning and hard to kill. For the family Carlyle, this is Forever, the youngest daughter of the family and the series protagonist. This series is, quite easily, my favorite book of the past 15 years. Writer Greg Rucka and artist Michael Lark really put their heart and soul into this series, which is evident if you get the hardcover collections with all the bonus "how we did it" material. Tons of research and discussion go into each issue. Rucka even went so far as to film himself and buddy for a fight scene that Lark could use for reference. Rucka originally said the story would take 125-150 issue to tell. Unfortunately, it looks like the series has died. The final volume (four) is due out in May, collecting the last 9 issues of the series to have come out, which finishes off the first major arc of the series. The last issue came out in 2022, literally one year after the previous issue, and that issue came out 8 months after the one before that. It's a shame, because it was a great book. Image Comics - 3 HC volumes (with the 4th due out in May) - Vol 1 $34.99, Vols 2 & 3 $39.99, Vol 4 $49.99. All still available. Also available in SC trades (with no behind the scenes items).
I think the effects of using the Lazarus pit are determined by several factors, and this is all my hc ofc. I hope you don’t mind me using this old post as something to go off of teehee
For one, Lazarus pits can’t be used “raw.” There is a very tedious process of purifying them before they can be used that involves science and magic. It is, in itself, a ritual. If the steps are not taken correctly, something may go horrible wrong, a la Lazara. If you were to take a swim in raw Lazarus, your skin would probably melt, much like Melisande.
This raw Lazarus is an excellent energy source, capable of powering cities. It’s also a clean energy source, of course, and has no negative effects on the environment. The Al Ghuls don’t keep the pits to themselves out of selfish reasons, quite the opposite. The pits are hidden because they’ve seen what humanity has done with oil and coal and would not intend for the pits to be used irresponsibly.
Once Lazarus is processed, it is safe for human contact. Taking a dip for too long can lead to harsher Lazarus madness, so it is important that the length of time you’re in there is relative to the severity of injuries. Lazarus can also be processed into ingestible or injectable medicine that can cure otherwise incurable diseases. (This is why we see Talia, in the Batman Spider-Man crossover, provide a cure for Vanessa Fisks terminal illness.)
We’ve seen people get dipped in the pits after being completely dead to the point where their bodies began rotting. That sort of power is probably incredibly draining both on the body and the mind, and the Lazarus madness would be much more severe. Hence why Jason becomes insane for a while.
Though I should mention that I don’t think Lazarus madness necessarily constitutes unreasonable aggressiveness and violence. It is shown to also have an amnesia-esque effect, causing short or long term memory loss. (In my hc, Nyssa has perfected this process, using it to brainwash many members of the LoA but especially Talia. Alternatively, Ra’s has nearly perfected the process of healing with the pit.)
There’s also the point of Jason Todd gaining a white streak, and this is extremely symbolic to his character for a plethora of reasons. Some writers can make this very questionable and honestly poorly written, but it can be done really well. Nonetheless, it does beg the question as to why only Jason gained this streak!
I’m not sure if it’s ever been covered, but I do hc that Ra’s has these same white streaks due to his constant use of Lazarus for hundreds of years, AS WELL AS because of his age. Talia will also have one, but it’s towards the back of her hair, and she keeps it hidden and cut short. (Sort of like how in Rapunzel, she has that one little lock of short brown hair tucked away?)
With Ra’s, he still feels these effects every time he uses the pits, and needs time to recover after using them. This is someone who has been using them for hundreds of years. So imagine how severe that effect might be on someone for the first time? It might seem like it’s completely gone and then manifest again suddenly after a traumatic experience, or a reminder of that sensation.
This could be the same for a lot of people who use it in a dramatic way. It’s meant to be something you micro-dose. A small amount can heal so much, to submerge yourself in it is like taking an entire bottle of medicine instead of just one pill. It isn’t a floating light feeling of healing, it is incredibly painful and dramatic. We see Ra’s start to become a lot healthier once he stops using the pits, and it’s essentially one of those classic situations where too much of a good thing can be really really bad.
I’ll also briefly mention that the Lazarus pit cannot heal previously healed scars, or very old scars. Which is why I think Jason SHOULD have autopsy scars. And why I think Damian should have maybe a bit less scars than some artists draw him having, because I can’t imagine Talia or Ra’s purposefully leaving him in such a way. Not when they have access to some of the greastest doctors in the world, Lazarus based ointments and saline’s, and Talia literally being a qualified doctor… but I digress.
(Speaking of Talia being a Doctor, I hc that she went to med school specifically so she could find new ways to incorporate the Lazarus’ healing component. But I’m not gonna get into it here bc that’s a whole other thing.)
The pits should be used responsibly, and are probably more frequently used as an energy source or a base for medicines rather than submerging pools. Ra’s uses them more than he should, but that doesn’t mean he goes for a swim every time he gets a paper cut. If the injuries can be cured without it, then that’s what will be done, even if it’s more tedious.
Anyways! I hope you guys enjoy this sort of breakdown! As always, the disclaimer here is that it’s almost all my own hcs based on various sources. Please feel free to correct/educate me if I got something terribly wrong. And also ask any questions you might have!!
If "Pit madness" is a thing tell me why it's only applied to Jason and not the actual Al Ghuls who own multiple and use the Lazarus pits frequently? 🤨 TELL ME TUMBLR 🤨🤨
Today was a weird work day. We had a power outage cause people don't know how to drive for about an hour but it never got busy after that so sucks for the cafe but I was fine with it. Meh, anime time!😶
Singing is hard enough. A grown women singing like a child and it still sound good? I was floored!😲
I'm really confused now. Why are we doing Cyan's background story after not finishing out Lightning Dude and WE are like three ep behind why Moon was shot or if she was shot in front of Lin Ling? 😵
Damn! I really did think that Oguri was gonna lose. Like the rule of sports anime is that you have to lose the key battle in order to have the come back arc. Is it cause this isn't a sports anime but an idol anime?🤔
Damn people stop drinking the Kool-aid, thinking the aliens are coming, or trial by fire! Cults are dangerous and stupid. End of line.😒
I jumped when the Master kabadoned Yuli but then when her leg went through him and I was like oh, that's why he looks like Kurt.😁
I am so glad the romance is actually going somewhere. I don't mind the slow place since we got the kiss. Also those little split moments in the village from more than one perspective? I really enjoyed that and finally some others know that she is a junior knight. 😊
Being an evil lord isn't that easy huh? I mean the idea of wine, food, and women all around is a classic concept from literature but no one talks about the ramifications do they? I feel bad for Banfield honestly cause although he is an adult inside with these idea they just sound childish no matter what age you are.😆
t
Happy Mother's Day to any other moms out there! I was surprised with breakfast made by my youngest son which was really yummy! I gave my mom her present which I smartly bought in March cause I knew I could be broke by May and I was right.😩
Still have to work today sadly but my body pain is at a decent level so as long as there are no surprises at work today it should be all good. Anyway, let's get to the anime shall we?😊
Awww why is this anime so adorable! I mean its dark in some places too cause of poor Ageha having the thoughts that he isn't gonna be around and needs to succeed to Regulus but still passing out cause he was sewing picture books for his little brother to learn? My heart! I am low key hoping that we meet the gardener/sword master's grand son's next week and Ageha teaches them to play nice as well!🥰
I not gonna lie. I didn't think this was going to go the way it did. I did not see that coming at all so that took my whole idea about how this side story plays into the end of ep 4 is so far gone that I am back to square one.😵
Okay I have mixed feelings about this episode. On the one hand I knew what the outcome was going to be cause plot be plot driven but still I think that Oguri should have had more say in everything properly. Like the other school should have approached her not the trainer and then if she made the decision based on those kinds of feelings it would be alright to push her into a corner a little. I don't know.😶
Damn people stop drinking the Kool-aid, thinking the aliens are coming, or trial by fire! Cults are dangerous and stupid. End of line.😒
So the church is cleaning up after themselves with their favorite means, misdirection, sacrifice, and murder. That being said, Kurt made a damn lake and created a daughter from an egg and now Lise and Yulishia both wanna be mama.😆
Whoa! Ep five and no take backs? Well...going in and then getting pushed so hard the wall breaks? But she is blessed by the Gorilla God so I'm sure Louis senpai will get used to it.😁
Technically this is a Saturday anime but it comes out so late for the West and so early for the East that I'm just gonna keep it on Sunday. That being said, I am enjoying this one. Its not the best by far, and the fanservice is not needed for the story, but the idea that the Guide is trying to ruin Banfield's life so he can enjoy the misery and negativity and its backfiring on him like crazy is quite amusing!🤭
Internet is finally chill so I can get this and Monday's up in one piece. Man was that annoying all weekend.😤
So because of the semi curse of being biologically female all my plans for today were thwarted by pain. I'm pissed too cause i went to bed right after watching all my anime yesterday with a full plan in mind and I only got two hours of sleep before the pain kicked in and it is still going, although thanks to drugs it is a little better now.😩
So now I working on this, watching today's anime, and smelling the roast pork that I am cooking down in the oven for dinner hoping the pain will not increase and I can eat it cause all i've had today is a bagel. Anyway enough bitching from me, let's get to what you guys are here for, the anime!😉
This is an anime that started late in the season, 20 April, but after a 3 ep ruling I am all in. I know from the manga covers online that the MC will lose weight but I find it amusing that the translation of the title in English leaves out something very important. Shiro means white and buta is pig, specifically when you are slandering someone. The English title is Reincarnated as a Neglected Noble: Raising My Baby Brother With Memories From My Past Life. Can you see what's missing? Yeah, yeah for Western white washing cause in the anime it is an important piece of information.😒
That being said I am in love with Regulus, the little brother, I felt so much for Ageha when he met him and how adorable he looks. Also every time I hear Nii-chan my heart hurts in a good way.😤
Oh and the parents are absolute trash and I am going to love hating them.😈
WE GOT BLUE BALLED! I'm so mad right now! Like I know that there is a reason but you can't show someone being shot in the head last week and then give me a background of a different person without any info at all! Like what the fuck script writer?🤨
Can I say how much I am not liking Kitahara-san right now. I hate when anyone in anime/manga feels like they are holding someone back and does the dumb shit of sacrificing themselves either by their own choice or being influenced by other people who think their shit doesn't stink. He is pushing Oguri into a corner cause he has been convinced it is for her own good but like every character before him or after him he is going to fail and either it will cost him something or destroy the one he is trying to protect. 🙄
I was a little confused about the fight scene in the elevator cause it was animated at such a slow speed but then again in such an small enclosed space and with so many people in there I guess realistically you can't have a high speed flashy fight and make it feel real.🤔
Kurt mopped the floor and ruined that demons life for reals yo! I was laughing so hard when he went from ku ku ku to what the fuck I can actually get hurt?😄
We know who that squirrel was for sure.😏
I am also working on another 3 ep ruling for another anime that hasn't been out long so I'll post about that when i finish. Mata ne Mina!😁
Man yesterday was killer. Because of how much spring cleaning I did on Sat, I slept till I had to work on Sunday so I didn't watch any anime until I got out of work, but I went to my friends house to be her private chef so I was not near my computer either to post when I was done.😩
So instead of posting this yesterday I'm doing it today but I will have another post for Monday Anime right after it so stay tuned!😉
So I'm not going to lie. I knew who the villain was before the reveal from the one scene but the whole moment was killed for me when i found out that Firm Man's boots were so firm that he could not bend at the knees and that bathroom scene had me crying laughing.😂
I kind of knew the end of the race cause it was too soon but when we saw those kicks I understood even more. It was nice to see at least one of the three bullies back off now, the red head of course, and in full tsundere mode which I am here for always.🤭
From Jerry to Jill and Baklava from grandma this was an interesting episode and I loved watching Axel destroy the guy trying to scam him. Still using an axe to get a watch is a little over the top don't ya think?😖
I can understand why they can't tell Kurt that he is OP as fuck cause he really would not believe them since he compares himself to the others from his home village. Its kind of sad honestly but at the same time it is really funny watching them convince him of what they can and it takes like two hours.😄
Is it terrible to say I really like Arcient? He is clearly a shitty guy but the way he said that Sophia was his prey just gave me the shivers. This should not surprise anyone who knows who my avatar is.😏
So these are two short form anime, about 12 min with OP/ED, that fall into the ecchi category that I am enjoying like after dinner mints or a fun size candy bar at the end of my anime watching day. Really nothing else just some guilty pleasure ecchi comedy.😁
The season one dynamic is so important to me because you watch the first episode and you’re like “they’re gonna bone” even though they don’t really trust each other and its just this first time field agent who knows exactly what shes doing in theory but has never actually experienced any if this and this vetted agent who was renown for his profiles with violent crimes who every just thinks is crazy but the take each other so seriously from the get go and why the fuck are they standing that close to each other and then at the end of the season (which i estimate to be about a years worth of time) scully, who holds her job and success over everything else, is ready to lose her job to protect Mulder and he is mostly ready to give up the xfiles (in name atleast, you cant really have mulder without the xfiles) for the same reason.
They’re not friends, they’re not coworkers, they’re not romantically or sexual invoved they are a secret fifth thing
Let me tell you a secret, have you ever heard that greek myth where humans were made with two faces and four arms and legs until they got split in half and thats where soulmates came from? That was actually written to describe the relationship of Fox Mulder and Dana Scully
