Bumi and Iroh were standing there in front of Fire Lord or Fire Lady Izumi, Iroh's mother. She was not happy, whenever Iroh tried his best to stop or get involved into Bumi's shenanigans this would his mother very mad at them.
"Mother, before you can say anything let me explain" Iroh said trying to reason her "You can explain it to me at the throne room young man" Izumi said in an anger tone she turned her head at Bumi.
"Bumi" she said as she yanked her son's ear "ow, ow, ow, ow" Iroh yelped "Leave" she ordered Bumi made his shamed face. "Yes, ma'am" he replied.
As Bumi leaves the palace, and Iroh and Izumi went to the throne room.

(This is not comics compliant) not seeing enough Mai/Azula or even Mai/Azula/Ty Lee stuff today so take my interpretation of how it would work post canon:
im horrible at getting together stories but ANYWAYS I think mai would be with zuko and she’d also have feelings for Azula so for a while she’d be torn between the two and then she’s like why not both :/ to herself one day so she tells zuko and he’s like you want to date my sister too??? And Mai says something along the lines of ’i have a type’ (i think I’m hilarious)
anyways tyzula would already be established at this point and I think Mai would not confess her feelings, I actually see Azula being the one more likely to confess (or ty Lee ‘accidentally’ lets it slip to Mai lol) but yeah I don’t really have an actual getting together moment planned.
so I headcanon zuko as transmasc nonbinary and personally love adopted!izumi so that happens <3 Azula and ty Lee still like being called her aunts rather than moms but they raise them together. ty lee would teach her chi blocking bc she’s a late bloomer in terms of bending. Mai would teach her to throw knives and izumi thinks its hilarious that she’ll see her mom look super Powerful and Threatening™️ one minute and then the next her mom will just be laying on the couch cuddling her girlfriends and writing a love letter to her husband who’s on a diplomacy trip. azula and zuko teach her fire bending ofc. Sometimes Azula has to take breaks because it triggers memories of her intense training when she was a child, but her family is always there to calm her down 💘

Please tell me at the very least Iroh II and his sister survive the apocalyptic event and use the values and lessons they learned from Zuko and Izumi to lead one of the havens together in the new Avatar series. 🙏
(But if there was any justice in the world, Zuko and Izumi would be 100+ years old and still kicking in this post apocalyptic era.)
Personal take: Even in 2025, I adore Maiko being emo teens 😄. I hope they keep their emo vibes in the future content.

i wish one day Korra and the krew visit the Fire Nation Capital and we see Izumi and her daughter appearing in the comics
People really try and say Katara is Izumi’s mom like honey?? That baby looks nothing like Katara??? Someone got Zuko pregnant and I know for a fact it wasn’t Katara
They don't necessarily say Katara is the mom, but they try to go "Oh, Maiko broke up in the comics, so Mai can't possibly be the mom" even though Izumi literally has the same face.
It's a blatant attempt at downplaying the fact that Zuko chose Mai over Katara or whoever they ship him with.
And let me be clear, I don't mind people just using the character of Izumi, or at least the name, in fics and making her the child of Zuko with some other woman, I do that too. The problem is the blatant denial of reality.
She's a Maiko baby. Plain and simple.
