“Romantic Gothic deals with the tormented condition of a creature suspended between the extremes of faith and skepticism, beatitude and horror, being and nothingness, love and hate - and anguished by an indefinable guilt for some crime it cannot remember having committed.”

— – G. R. Thompson: from “Romanticism and the Gothic Tradition”

The handshake meme, where the two arms are labeled "jekyll and hyde" and "dracula." In the middle where their hands intertwine, it says: "extremely famous and influential pieces of gothic literature that still manage to be underrated because every movie adaptation changes so much and the actual text isn't as well-known or popular"

anyway if dracula daily made you realize how great the book dracula is, please read jekyll and hyde, it's also extremely good. and the audiobook narrated by richard armitage is EXCELLENT.

So I was listening to the Jekyll and Hyde musical the other day and during Transformation I realized that some of the effects of HJ-7 sound oddly familiar to those of contrast.

For those who don’t know, contrast dye is used in MRI’s, CT scans, and other procedures to make certain parts of your body be more visible on the scan.

As for it’s side effects, there’s the normal ones and the dangerous ones, like there is in most medicine.

One of the normal side effects of contrast is a feeling of warmth through your body. (This would be the ‘warm in the gullet’ line).

Some of the negative side effects can include nausea, cramping, itching, and difficulty to breath. (Light headedness, breath taking pain)

I’m not going anywhere with this I just thought it was an interesting coincidence.

I love in Lucy’s letter to Mina she says “but you must keep it a secret, dear, from every one, except, of course, Jonathan” so glad he passed the bestie test and is allowed to know the secrets

I've Loved This Book For Years, But I'm Not Sure If I'm Gonna Be Liveblogging Like I Did The Last Two
I've Loved This Book For Years, But I'm Not Sure If I'm Gonna Be Liveblogging Like I Did The Last Two

I've loved this book for years, but I'm not sure if I'm gonna be liveblogging like I did the last two times, or at least all throughout this year's run. Still, I'll definitely be reading along all the same! And for any first readers, enjoy!

How are you gonna complain that Nosferatu was too sexual as if Gothic literature didn't originate from social rebellion? As if Bram Stoker's novel didn't have sexual undertones? As if Nosferatu didn't have sexual undertones already? I understand if you didn't expect such upfront sexuality, but don't hate on the movie for it. If it's not for you, that's okay! Taboo topics aren't for everyone; Just remember that Gothic literature is meant to be taboo. A social rebellion. Expressing the dark, barbaric, animalistic, and shunned aspects of human nature. I haven't watched the film YET; But I have taken a course SPECIFICALLY on Gothic literature {and passed}, read Bram Stoker's Dracula, watched both original Nosferatu's multiple times, and immersed myself in Gothic literature for a while now. Gothic horror IS sexual in its essence. It's grotesque and disgusting. Revolting and shameful. That's the point. It's also sensual, emotional, despondent, and FULL of metaphors. It’s EROTIC. If the genre isn't for you, or if certain aspects aren't for you, that's okay. Everyone has their limits, everyone deserves their boundaries.

(Sketch Of Edward Hyde As I Try To Figure Out How To Draw His Body Hair)

(Sketch of Edward Hyde as I try to figure out how to draw his body hair)

I like how the pose turned out on this one, I think most of his face being hidden and his character being shown more in body language works well for Hyde

Hey Everyone! I'd Just Like To Share A Quick Message For People Who Would Like Some New Spooky Icons

Hey everyone! I'd just like to share a quick message for people who would like some new spooky icons to snazz up their phone, or perhaps were bemoaning the fact discord doesn't have an emote of a bat delivering a letter by default.

These 10 icons, with both coloured and transparent backgrounds in 2000 x 2000 pixel size, and the same resized to 128 x 128 pixels ready to be used as discord emotes, are now available to anyone who donates any amount to my kofi!

(And to those who hate Generative AI, you'll be happy to learn these, like all my art, were all actually hand drawn by me, yay!)

So if in the future you donate to my kofi, first of all, Thank you!

Second, remember to download these emotes and icons to save and keep for as long as you like, I hope you enjoy them ♥

Edric Montagu from The Mummy! A Tale of the Twenty-Second Century by Jane Webb (later Jane C. Loudon)

The novel is from 1827, so he's another one of those 19th century funky little literary mad scientists trying to resurrect the dead and it's great!

This is my design for him because I've been looking and, at the time of writing this, there are basically no posts on here about this book, at all.

So A Tale of the Twenty-Second Century fans, if you exist, here is some fan art. ♥
