Welcome to my new Wilbur x M!Reader story! (<-Link)
Originally the hope had been to format it for both Tumblr and Wattpad but the way Tumblr works doesn't suit both the format and potential length so it'd staying on Wattpad for now. The hope is to post chapter links here for you all to read for now and then figure out a way to post on both sites.
Note: This story is something I've been working on for a bit and does not yet have an update schedule. One-shots will still be coming out and requests are still accepted.
Until next time,

"Y/N," Sir Oliver, your commanding officer, called you over. His dark brown eyes looked you over, making you straighten up in your stiff salute. "I'm assigning you onto King Eret's guard duty for the week."
"Yes sir." You replied, staring over his shoulder. They narrowed their eyes at you before they nodded. "I expect a good report when I arrive next Monday."
"Of course sir," You promise. This was a big game-changer for you. Only the best got assigned to King Eret's protective detail. If you managed to keep him alive from the weekly attempts on his life, the raise would be enough to pay for your little brother's hospital bills. "I won't let you down."
Sir Oliver looked back at you, their eyes softer. "I know you won't."
Grinning at your mentors back, you couldn't wait to tell Dean when you visited him tonight.

"Have you ever met the king before?" Spencer asked curiously. They had done guard duty with you a few times before, protecting the lower levels of the kingdom. They were younger than you too, barely a few months shy of 19 with big brown eyes and even bigger dreams. "I mean, I've never done anything higher than middle-high but you've been here longer than me."
"No, King Eret's guard is a very special assignment. They don't let just anyone go with the king." You explained, rounding the corner of the training grounds. Morning laps were such a pain.
Spencer nodded. They tilted their head as they considered something silently. "I'm gonna join King Eret's personal guard one day."
Chuckling, you nodded along. He probably will one day. The kid had so much determination that you'd be surprised if he didn't.
As you both crossed the end, where a few others were already waiting, you considered where you were going. A lot of people didn't make the cut for the personal guard, so those who did ended up staying until someone better was found. Would this weekly assignment turn permanent?
There wasn't much time to think about this. You were heading off towards the main hall where the rest of the personal guard awaited you. The walk was shorter than you would've liked, with quick and easy pathways to get there.
"Y/N," A female soldier greeted you, they were likely your temporary commander. "Welcome to Eret's Eight."
"Glad to be here, ma'am," You replied holding the door open for her to walk in first. "What's Eret's Eight?"
"It's what we call ourselves," She chuckles to herself. "Eight of us guard Eret so it's pretty self-explanatory. Also, don't call me "ma'am". It's too formal. Call me Sara."
"Alright, Sara." You smile weakly at her. It's hard to crush the part of you that wants to please, but you push it down. "So, where's King Eret."
"He's eating breakfast in the dining hall. Which is where the rest of Eret's Eight is."

Sara was nice. She explained what she could on the walk. It made it easier. Less pressure building upon your shoulders. Being in the castle just provided a more relaxing feeling, you suppose.
With the soft lanterns hanging up, and the aesthetically appealing vines that likely got trimmed daily. The plain, stone walls were offset with the amount of colour the rest of the castle brought. With multi-coloured flags hanging everywhere and silly flamingos randomly set up.
It felt homey.
It reminded you of when Dean was younger and decided to redecorate the entire apartment when his babysitter was sleeping. Things were clashing horribly and items were put away in too tight boxes that likely would've caused them to burst if you hadn't gotten home when you did. And maybe all of it was ugly, but you'd never seen Dean more proud or your home more lived in.
The babysitter was still fired and Dean was grounded despite that.
Straightening up, you got ready to finally meet King Eret. The king who had supposedly played an active part in turning the tides against L'Manburg. Dean was a big fan...
King Eret was laughing as his guards shared smiles. The king's smile was pretty, you absentmindedly noted. With perfect white teeth and a dimple on his right side, he seemed so much more real than the legends made him seem.
"Hey! Eret!" Sara called out. She placed a hand on your shoulder and pushed you forward. When you regained your footing, the king and his men were staring at you. "This is Y/N, he's the new recruit this week."
"Oh, hello!" King Eret's smile was directed at you, a small little grin that made his whole face light up. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Y/N."
Your heart stuttered in your chest. It was strange. You had never had to deal with this before, the feeling of your heart beating out of your chest.
"It's good to meet you too, your majesty." You awkwardly nodded.
"Oh, no. None of that. Just call me Eret."
"But-?"
Sara pulled your attention towards her. "It's better not to argue. We all end up doing it in the end."
"Alright, your-, Eret..." You corrected yourself. The king chuckled softly, not mocking but still making you flush.
"I'm sure you'll do amazing here."

"So?" Spencer asked. "What's the big deal? Why are you all mopey?"
"The king is attractive," You complain, fixing the tight armour straps. "I didn't sign up for him to be pretty."
Spencer laughed at you. Their baby face was ridiculously younger when they laughed. "I mean, most royals are. And you signed up to protect him, looks shouldn't affect that."
"Spencer!" You whined, pouting at him. "It's not fair. He has such a pretty smile, and laugh, and-,"
"I get it, Y/N." Spencer giggled. "Why don't you talk to him if you like him so much?"
"He's the king, Spence. If I flirt with him and he gets annoyed, he could have me beheaded."
Spencer rolled his eyes, grinning up at you. "Good. Then I won't have to hear your love-struck rambling."
"I see how it is," You pout. "When you start fumbling over your words with Derek I'll just watch and laugh."
"You're so mean."
"Wha-? You started it!"
"Y/N?" Someone spoke up behind you. Spinning around, you found Sara smiling at you. "You were assigned to night duty tonight."
"Of course, ma'am, I'll be out in a second." You nod.
"Sara," She corrects. They pause halfway out the door, glancing back at you. "And also, Eret's not against the idea of a man in the sheets."
You splutter indigenously, face flushed with heat. Spencer and Sara laugh and you are left to be the one embarrassed.

"Y/N," King Eret greets with a smile, warm and practically full of sugar. They looked so peaceful in their light blue nightgown. It made his eyes pop, you noted as you situated yourself by the balcony. Stephen and Mira had taken the outside, leaving you to privately protect the king alone. "It's so good to see you."
Suddenly, what Sara had said earlier crossed your mind. Unable to meet his eyes, you nodded. "It's good to see you too, your, er-, Eret."
"I feel like you just like calling me that now." Eret chuckled. He gave a teasing little grin. "Your Eret."
Laughing nervously, you scratched at your neck. It was more than slightly embarrassing. Glancing up, your eyes met the king's, who softly stared at you with stars in his eyes. You felt your stomach flutter.
Coughing and staring down at your feet, you tried to ignore the butterflies in your stomach. "You should probably sleep, Eret." You glanced up when the king sighed. "I'll protect you the entire night."
"I know you will," Eret said softly, his voice sweet as honey and mixed with a layer of something hard to imagine. It almost sounded like want.
Flushing, you straightened up. It was your duty to defend King Eret and flirting was just distracting you.

The night passed with little fanfare. You watched the world with a careful eye, wary to protect the king. They slept soundly, not a care in the world. Eret looked so peaceful lying there, but you tried not to stare.
When he woke up, your eyes met and he sleepily blinked at you before smiling. "Good morning." Eret shifted and beckoned you closer. He took your hand and stood up, not letting go as he wandered over to his wardrobe
Turning around, you let go of Eret's hand. You were blushing heavily, knowing that King Eret was changing right behind you. Fiddling with the bracelet Dean had given you, it was quite a few minutes of Eret's humming as you stared at nothing.
"Alright, we can go now."
As you were escorting him to breakfast, he seemed quite happy to grab onto your hand. Mira wiggled her eyebrows at you, snickering with Stephen. It seems Sara's influence had gotten to them, somehow.
Kori and Raven had met you at the doors, opening them for you both. They shared glances between your intertwined hands and Mira and Stephen. Kori patted your shoulder as you passed. "Good morning."
"Morning," You nodded back. Eret sat down, meeting your eyes and gesturing to a seat at the table. Tilting your head, you splayed your hands out. You were supposed to be guarding him. Eret frowned.
The table was already set up with loads of expensive and fancy foods. Fit for a king. It'd be disrespectful for you to eat there, especially since you're supposed to be doing your job.
Eret looked you over, calculating how he'd get you to sit probably. Then, they smiled. "Lisa?"
The guard walked over, her girlfriend a step behind. Katrina and her were serious at work but adorable whenever you got to talk to them after shifts. "I think me and Y/N will be fine alone. The rest of you can wait outside."
"Of course, Eret." She nodded, giving a low bow. Her iron armour glittered as she stepped into the sunny outside hallway. As they all walked out, Sara shot you a grin.
"Sit," Eret ordered. It was odd considering he had never ordered you around before, but you listened. He watched you for a second, his pretty blue eyes scanning over your face.
"I think you need to taste this for me," Eret said. They shoved the deliciously fluffy pancake in your direction.
You blinked, you had expected it but not so bluntly. "Um."
"What, you'd rather I be poisoned?" Eret's eyes shone brilliantly.
Of course not. You hesitantly cut off a piece, only to practically melt in satisfaction. "Oh my god." It was amazing. "I- er, I think it's fine."
"You should try a sip of my drink too," Eret hid a wry grin. "Just to be safe."
You gladly started testing the food after that. It might have taken you slightly too long to realize it was practically a date, with Eret feeding you delicacies off their plate.
You definitely weren't mad though. Especially not when Eret held your hand the entire time.

[this was quite possibly the longest and most fun one I've written yet. Anyway, happy pride everyone! Go sleep if it's past 10pm for you, or just get a bottle of water and a snack. Sleep is preferred but I'd settle for either.]
