i think there was a time that charles, for all of his good-doing and faith in humanity, would have walked away from it all if it meant that erik would come with him

like, i understand that his character is driven by helping others, but erik was the exception. erik was the exception from the moment they met, and erik was the exception when charles chose to shout about how erik left him above everything else twice
