it is also really annoying because Nina is presented as really attractive and desirable  throughout the books when plus size people are far too often presented as ugly and something to be pitied because they don’t attract many if any romantic or sexual interests

when people draw Nina skinny, it really just shows how many people can’t fathom the idea of a proper size person being viewed as attractive 

It makes me genuinely sad when people draw our queen Nina Zenik skinny. We already have so little plussize representation and when we do, it's usually comedic relief. Not Nina. She's a character with depth, she's confident, she's not ashamed to love food, her friends are worried about her when she doesn't eat due to parem, they're happy for her when she finally starts eating again, she's a powerful character. AND PEOPLE DRAW HER SKINNY. Like...to every plussize art there are like 30 skinny arts. Please for the love of Saints, don't do this lol

Jan Van Eck writing letters to Wylan, knowing he can't read, must be one of the cruelest things a negligent parent could ever do. and by that I mean mocking your own child instead of trying to understand and help them. I'm sorry it just makes me really emotional, I think sometimes we focus more on the other characters and their past, but Wylan was not as privileged as it seems to be at the beginning

Important Anouncment:

In the german dub, when Jesper lies on top of Wylan, he doesn't say "you got me waffles", he literally says "you baked waffles for me"

Jesper, how tf do you forget someone who you not only slept with but who also actually sat down cooked for you?? Ffs

So you know how in the show they say that Grisha need to touch their hands before they can use their powers right? And we alwalys see that, especially with the heartrenders.

But you know who never does that and can still use his power? Jesper. The boy who was never formally trained to use his powers.

Now my theory is that Grisha need to do a little ritual or movement to 'kickstart' their powers. And all the Grisha who get trained, learn this movement where they touch their hands. So they need to do this, which is why Nina can't do anything when she is a captive on the ship.

But Jesper taught himself, mostly. So he subconsciously came up with his own ritual, the gun twirling. We see him do that constantly. It is especially visible during his face off with Ivan. Before every shot, he twirls his guns on his fingers.

I have no idea where I am going with this, I just think it's interesting that they don't actually have touch their hands, their kickstarter could be whatever.

Did anyone else realize that Kaz probably cuts his own hair because he can't bear touch and that is the reason his haircut isn't that good which leads to Nina making fun of it????

We talk a lot about 30 million kruge, because of course we do, but we don’t mention often enough that the original offer was FIVE. It took Kaz one conversation to get it from five million to twenty million, and then he demanded thirty anyway. I love him.

And the smeared ink in the background is her Lynx spots and the ink on her hands is blood.

And the straps on her legs is where she keeps her knives but she doesn't have her knives

me: kaz brekker’s character is incredibly complex and well-rounded. he’s a product of not only his circumstances but also of the choices said circumstances forced him to make, and his personality is more than just his love for inej. he and inej are two individual, strong characters, and that is precisely why they work so well together—because they bring out the best in each other, and this best already exists.

Yellow is Kaz’ favourite colour.

Not some bright and neon yellow but a soft, somewhat golden, type of yellow. The yellow you would spot faintly in a sunset, the yellow that reminds him of the days as a child watching that very sunset with his family, the yellow you could spot faintly on Matthias’ hair when the sun hit it just right, the yellow spotted in small specks throughout Nina’s eyes as she smiled widely- a teasing and caring smile, the yellow found surrounding Wylan with a soft glow as he laughed and shone with pure emotion, the yellow that glints in front of Kaz’ eyes when the sun hits Jesper’s precious Zemeni revolvers at just the right angle, the yellow showing throughout Inej’s tunic embroidered in small details he has memorised, the yellow he has found to be intertwined with all his favourite things about his life.

So yeah, his favourite colour is yellow.

I suggest finishing Crooked Kingdom on chapter 39, namely at the moment, “But then she saw him striding toward her across the empty square. He raised his hand in greeting.”

The Crows got their revenge, eventually got their money and lived happily ever after, making their dreams come true.

Jesper : *smug smile* Oh what a shame! Inej'd be Wy's maid of honour. We thought of saving the best man & maid of honour a dance but since you're adamant...never mind!

Kaz :

Kaz : What do you want me to wear?

THIS! Since he succeeded in realizing it was his people teaching this prejudice, not his faith, he didn't have to lose that important part of himself to become less prejudiced. And he probably wouldn't have anyways, but still. Some would've distanced themselves from all of it to become a better person or might've had to. But he didn't.

Really, really need people to understand how important it is that Matthias kept his faith while unlearning the toxic beliefs that people had instilled in him. That’s really important to his character actually.

Matthais being killed essentially by a younger version of himself will never fail to make me sad. Even in SoC, I always had a bit of a soft spot for him. I'm not sure why, but I just...did, I guess? And I was so happy when he made it over his hurdles in SoC. When he finally accepted how much he actually adored Nina.

But mostly, it's him coming to terms with the fact that maybe Grisha aren't all that bad. I absolutely loved his arc of overcoming his own prejudices. I also love how it isn't very rushed. His acceptance didn't feel sudden to me, it made perfect sense when it happened considering everything, at least in my opinion.

I only watched season 1 and a bit of season 2 of Shadow and Bone, so if it's different in the series (which I wouldn't know myself because I don't really remeber the show other than somehow squishsing the Crows in with the main story,) disregard this post.

words cannot describe how much i NEED kaz to crack me up in the SOC spin-off because his unhinged sense of humor means everything to me.

and don’t get me started on how wylan and inej and matthias are also fucking hilarious and the fact that we never saw that on screen should be a war crime.

Some of my personal favorite underrated Kaz moments from the books.

this is just six of crows but here we go:

- nina and matthias never actually abandoned their duties for “love”. they accept each other, but at the same time are tormented by their loyalty to their country. nina and matthias are extremely homesick all the time; nina never discarded her faithfulness in ravka or grisha and matthias never renounced his religion. they changed because of one another, yes, but their story is not just “enemies to lovers”.

- inej’s sexual trauma can be set off when someone touches her - even when nina or jesper hugs her. she doesn’t react quite as badly as kaz, but physical contact still triggers her. she suppressed it so even kaz didn’t know about this until she told him.

- jesper can actually hold his own in a physical, non-gun related fight (i have proof). he is also smart enough to make his own guns with the help of a fabrikator, to argue with wylan about explosive materials and to pursue higher education. he is not just a comedic relief.

- kaz is ruthless, amoral and cold but he is not a distant boss to the other crows. he makes jokes with them, flips jesper off when they banter, jokingly calls inej “treasure of [his] heart” and nina “love”, loses bets to wylan and makes fun of matthias’s religiousness - most of the time he acts like their slappable friend with a dark sense of humor and a questionable haircut.

- wylan is not just jesper’s cute love interest that tags along on a job just for shits and giggles and the occasional booms and bangs. he is a deeply damaged child who still believes in goodness despite never believing in himself.

for people who haven’t read the shadow and bone/ six of crows books, but have seen the show:

- inej ghafa is a survivor of childhood sex trafficking. she has ptsd and reacts in a panic attack at even walking past the menagerie

- kaz’s trauma isn’t just pekka rollins being responsible for jordie’s death, and waking up on the barge. he had to swim to shore, age nine and barely alive, using jordie’s body as a float

- the darkling has done far worse things than are shown on screen. he is not a ‘lost man’ and alina is not his ‘balance’

- alina was seventeen upon the darkling being nsfw/ romantic with her

- matthias helvar did not lead drüskelle, that was jarl brum- matthias is only just barely an adult himself

- the crows are not their own separate gang, they are part of the dregs, who per haskell leads and kaz takes over from haskell after haskell sold out his lieutenant (kaz) to pekka rollins

- zoya, genya, and alina have personalities outside of either being traumatised or hating each other

- alina never wanted any of the power and fame and idolatry, and in the end of the books is stripped of it all. she is very happy about this

- jesper is a gambling addict and somebody who watched the death of his mother
