Not my proudest kin…

The US house, 5 or 6 governor’s, and a number of state congresses flipped this year. We had some losses in the senate, but that was a long shot anyway and 2020 looks a lot better for us and a lot worse for them.
Nevada trended even more blue. Texas nearly had an upset in the senate race, and Beto has helped develop the democratic party in Texas in ways that have not existed before.
I can’t downplay how important that is or how much of a victory tonight actually is for us.
State victories mean more people can be helped at the state and local level.
Holding onto the state level stuff into 2020? Means we can fix the fucking gerrymandering for the US house if we can pick up even more states.
Having the US house means the Republican Agenda of Governmental Destruction comes to a grinding halt. It means we can subpoena records and people from the Trump administration. It means his tax records? Are ours.
It means if trump stops the FBI investigation the House can start it up again on their own.
It means we have a democrat third in line to the presidency.
It means oversight, it means committees and investigations and it means medicare is protected, social security, obamacare.
It means if a democrat tries to gain access to a child detention camp and is refused they can then turn around and order subpoenas and investigations.
It means the only things that get passed the next two years are naming post offices and bare bones budgets.

is that last comic you posted about a suicide note? I'm confused
One of the rituals from Victorian era’s cult of mourning: if a close loved one died, you’d order yourself some black bordered calling cards, note paper and envelopes. Your border’s width would be determined by how close you were to the deceased, how long you’d been in mourning, and how ostentatious you wanted to be.
Even newspapers followed this etiquette:
Vancouver Daily World, British Columbia, January 22, 1901:
The Guthrie Daily Leader, Oklahoma, September 14, 1901:
Anyway, to answer your question, I doubt it. Unless the guy’s brother was a big stickler for etiquette, pretty full of himself, or had a dark sense of humor, I don’t think you’d mail your own suicide note in a mourning envelope. And in that case it wouldn’t be a very funny comic.
(As an aside, in some places you couldn’t actually mail letters with full mourning borders. They were said to be easier to tamper with; edges could be cut and then coloured with dark ink, so ones that were tinted rather than full-black were also sold).
I’m pretty sure the joke is just that the guy isn’t very smart, and thinks the black border + the brother’s handwriting means his brother must be dead. Really his brother is just in mourning for someone else.
