no one here is guilty of this crime but her name is LENORE DOVE. Not Lenore. Dove is not her middle name it’s the second half of her first name.
Double barrel names are full names. You say the whole thing. It’s like Mary-Kate Olson. It’s not Mary or Kate, it’s Mary-Kate. There’s just a space between Lenore and Dove instead of a hyphen, which is totally normal. The whole thing is her name. Just like Lucy Gray isn’t Lucy. Double barrel names are a part of Covey culture AND ALSO current southern and Appalachian culture.
hiiii :3 ive been following ur stuff on tiktok b4 finding u here and am absolutely obsessed w ur portrayal of everything - esp ur previous hunger games content & post mockingjay stuff! do u have many thoughts on either of those bc id be DYING to hear them lmfao
Thank you so much!!!!
First, I am very much not neurotypical and even less so when it comes to THG and have A Thought about most things in the series but I'll try to be as brief as I can lmao
My main thing that I love and am obsessed with is what I believe is the the theme at the heart of the story: That compassion for those around you and building community are acts of rebellion and vital to break the cycle of oppression. And I think that can be seen through pretty much every character and story line throughout the series (including ABOSAS) by either embodying it or rejecting it.
When it comes to my art for the series, I try to draw things that I haven't seen as much as I'd like to. I'm not great at writing my thoughts down, especially about things I am passionate about, SO I try to use my art as a more concise outlet. (If you were asking about a specific artwork I did, lmk!)
For my thoughts specifically about what happens post Mockingjay- I think Katniss and Peeta got to live out the dream they had at the top of the training center in Catching Fire. But that takes a LOT of work and I appreciate that Suzanne Collins didn't wave away their history and trauma for a happily ever after either. It feels like their lives and struggles and joy aren't over when the book ends.
When I have a specific thing to talk about, I can go for HOURS (all my friends and family can very tiredly attest to that) but here's like my over arching feelings that I hope answered your questions a little?
Some people: The love story isn't the point of The Hunger Games series! The love story distracts people from the important messages about war and oppression!
Me: Actually, the love story is vital to the series because it sits at the heart of all the major themes.
Other people: Yeah! You're right! This series isn't a love story! It's a metaphor for those themes!
Me: 🤦♀️
Me: YOU DON'T GET IT EITHER!
These things are not mutually exclusive! The love story can be thematically relevant and a metaphor for philosophical concepts and still be a love story! Romance is not a dirty word! It's okay for a story to be about characters in love!
Katniss, during almost the entirety of the trilogy: I don't want kids but I want Peeta to have children so much. He is so dad-shaped it hurts, Imagining his kids running in the meadow in 12 brings me so much joy..
Peeta: has never, not once, expressed any desire to have kids before the epilogue
I just finished chapter 46 of Blind Prince and I fear for my sanity
as katniss and peeta enter the capitol for the first time, katniss is shocked at how peeta is able to hold his ground by smiling and waving to the capitol citizens (thg, 59). and she immediately concludes that this is because peeta is already fighting hard to survive (thg, 60). and fighting hard to kill her (thg, 60).
just like everyone else in his situation would.
but literally every other word he says to katniss in this book is about how he doesn't actually think he is going to survive this. like when they are talking about their skills (thg, 90). or when he is explaining how he wants to die as himself and not stoop to the capitol's level (thg, 141). or when he is trying to tell katniss what he wants her to know before he dies in the cave (thg, 261).
by the end of the first games, i am sure that peeta had started to think of himself as a survivor. a victor. after all, he was about to survive a brutal death arena with his lover.
but then the rule changed. and only one of them could survive. and any drive of his to survive did not stop him from immediately realizing that katniss needs to be the one to live. because he needs her to live.
and so, throwing all survival instincts to the wind, he threw his knife into the river and released the bandage from his wound (thg, 342). he was planning on dying for her. he just didn't realize that his songbird was thinking the same.
and this continues in the second game when both katniss and peeta hyperfocus on how they can ensure their lover's survival. knowing that it would cost their own life.
they both don't really consider themselves survivors. or, if they do, they recognize how they will need to just forget all of their natural instincts to survive. because there is something more important.
and it is almost like they both decided to be survivors in the quell because they need to survive just long enough to help give the other person a better chance of surviving. because what is the point of surviving if your happiness dies alongside your lover.
saw a stupidass take about my favorite guy but im being sooo brave about it
Getting sick around the fourth is hell. I just wanted some fresh air in my own backyard and instead I get second hand smoke from the sky
Genuine question: Do you think there's anything like social media in Panem? Obviously not in the districts, but like in The Capitol. And, if so, what do you think it'd be like?
Here’s the link! <Little Fawn> https://www.webtoons.com/en/canvas/little-fawn/list?title_no=1034965
Hey realized I hadn’t mentioned it officially on here
But I’m now publishing a comic on Webtoon!
I know I’ve talked about it before but that was a WHILE ago so sorry for advertising again
It’s called Little Fawn. It’s a Snow White retelling about the huntsman deciding to risk himself and go with Snow White to protect her from both the queen and the forest. It’s centered around found family- especially between the huntsman and Snow who he becomes a father to. I’d like to say it’s very sweet and cute but it’s been pretty dark so far so be aware of that going in 🥲 (there will be a lot of light moments! But the start of Snow White isn’t exactly the cheeriest in any adaptation)
It’s officially up to 4 chapters as I’m writing this so please check it out if that sounds at all interesting!
So I reread the jabber jay scene and the scene after to draw this
and holy shit I'll never get over how much of Peeta's dialogue and character got cut in the movies
Most of his role in these scenes was cut entirely or given to Johanna of all people?? (love Johanna, I just think it's kinda funny)
I wonder if part of it is because Peeta notices and cares about the details and the movies cut out most of said details lmao
