She remembered wearing them on those day excursions with Gem at the farmers market. She remembered those freckled hands pulling them off her at night. And she remembered that they had been part of that pile that Gem had hastily packed without much regard to those clothes she was taking before she was kicked out. Pearl swallowed a breath of fresh regret.
