random idea for my head cannon of jaune

walking through remnant was a long and drawn-out process. especially when you didn’t pack rations before you set out. ruby would argue that she had a lot to think about before leaving but she knew she’d screwed up. she was taught to fight not to plan a caravan. luckily jaune knew how to hunt and process his kills, sure it was sad to kill a cute bunny or a gentle deer but hey they had to eat law of nature. she only cried a little  the bad news was that jaune processed the kills while they were around. and seeing her crush bestie friend ripping the guts out of an animal before skinning it. she got a little sick to her stomach.  Jaune: “okay, ruby you want the heart?” *still got his hands covered in the deer* Ruby: *kinda scared* “what?” Nora: *gasps* “Renny it’s happening!” Ren: *pleasantly surprised* “ahead of schedule as well, congratulations ruby” Ruby: “why am I being congratulated? what’s going on” Jaune: “the hearts something that can be eaten raw, I wanted to know if you wanted it” Ruby: “okay funny guys, really funny. you almost had me” *looks around* “you’re joking, right?” Jaune: “as serious as a heart attack” Nora: *gasps* Ren: *smiles happily* Ruby: “I couldn’t” jaune: “I don’t mind, you should have it” Ren: *shakes his head, still smiling* Nora: *pantomimes eating* Ruby: *panicking*  “YOU EAT IT!” Nora: “ohmygodohmygodohmygod,” *grabs ren by the shirt and shakes him* “IT’S HAPPENING!” jaune: *shrugs and takes a bite out of the heart like an apple* Nora/Ren: *applauding* Ruby: *face pales* *softly to herself* “what the heck” ———————————————————————————————————– so fun fact about deer hearts they can be eaten raw. in vale the heart is traditionally given to the youngest member of the group to help them grow strong in minstral the heart is given to someone you care about and is seen as something romantic  in the kingdoms, proper no one eats deer heart  so three different things were happening during this story for Nora and ren, it was jaune giving a romantic gesture (a very major one) to ruby who then reciprocated (in a major way) basically announcing that they would be courting each other  jaune made a kill and as a skilled hunter offered the best part to ruby who was the youngest as a gesture to show he cared about her. but she didn’t like deer heart so he ate it for her ruby just watched her … jaune, kill an animal rip its guts out through its butt cut off its skin then eat the heart out of it still raw after offering it to her

Not gonna lie, Ozpin's advice did contribute to the way Ruby understands leadership's, and it is visible that his way of leading has rubbed off on Ruby quite a bit (I had a whole post on that a while ago)

BUT

The problem is people being allergic to nuance. You can be partially responsible for something, without meaning to, without being a bad person, without bashing a character.

Did Ozpin's advice lead to this situation in some ways ? Yes.

Was it meant to ? No.

Was it malicious advice ? No. In the context it was given, it was very good advice.

Was it hypocritical ? No. Ozpin acted exactly as he adviced Ruby to.

See the fun fact about giving advice, especially when you are a traumatized teacher, is that even when you mean well, even if you only wish to help, your own experience (or trauma) will "color" and impact the advice you give, and possibly make it flawed in some aspect. Does that make you an inherently bad person & teacher ?

No it makes you human, it makes for understandable & compelling character arcs, it gives us parallels. People just need to exerce some nuance really.

This is basically the same problem I have in the MHA fandom, where people who criticize All Might's teaching need to paint him as an inherently bad teacher & person. But actually, All Might has never given any consciously malicious advice to Izuku. He neve asked or expected for Izuku to do anything that he hasn't done himself and to himself. Self-sacrificial tendencies ? All Might has them in spades himself, and was never really given the room to acknowledge how bad they are. And yet he STILL hopes for Izuku to be safe (safer than him at least) and urges him to take care of himself and not act recklessly.

Being human, having trauma, offering advice based on your own experience can lead to flawed advice. That is interesting and compelling. It makes sense, and it leads to wonderful parallels and development. That doesn't make a character bad, nor does it mean that their entire advice & teaching was always terrible and that they should be burned at the stake.

To the person who made the “all of Ruby’s problems are Ozpin’s fault!” Post. Disrespectfully, and I mean this in the most rancid way possible, fuck off.

Ozpin is doing his best and is literally traumatized by the events and years leading up to where we’re at, the advice he gave to her in volume 1-2 about being a leader was genuine advice, how the fuck was he supposed to know it would’ve led to this, he didn’t do it maliciously stop acting like he did. He gave RWBY and JNPR an out from the war SEVERAL TIMES and they CHOSE not to. So don’t go saying that he manipulated them into the war or some other bullshit.

He kept all those secrets EXACTLY because of RWBY and CO’s reaction, he knew they were going to be mad which is why he didn’t want them involved in the first place.

God you people are fucking insufferable.

When you hate a character you people will find every reason you can possibly pull out of your ass to shit on them, which is wildly unhealthy tbh.

Blake & Sun/Blacksun i wasn't particularly invested in the ship for V1-V3 but Blake really needed help & a steadfast presence in V4-V5 as well as some sunny optimism and Sun was there for her so yeah i'm sorry i still love them so goddamn much. also, he just had so much impact on Blake in general by finally geting her to accept her friends' help and stop making choices for them. he might lacks tact but come on he cares for her it's dishonest to argue the countrary. BLAKE HAS TWO HANDS IF THAT'S WHY YOU DISLIKE SUN. JUST SAYING.

Blake & Yang (V1-V5) i really like their relationship, i loved Burning the Candle & i don't have any problems with Bumbleby fundamentally. however i would have liked more for the resolution of their V5 conflict (like a soft & deep convo similar to what Yang & Weiss had, or Lumity in last week's ep if you watch it too). Just my preference. All that Matters is a song I absolutely love, but for me it's not a love song but a very sad one and I would have wanted another resolution than the one we got.

Hello everyone !

I don't know if anyone tried to guess which song was whose in my previous post here; but in any case I've figured out how to make easy gifs it seems soo I'll be putting out shippy gifs with lyrics from now on ♡

We're starting today with the babies Ruby & Oscar, let's get going with Rosegarden 💚❤️ The theme song I chose for them is Talk to me - Cavetown

WHY THIS SONG ?

For Rosegarden, I tried to focus on aspects specific to their characters and thus their ship. It came down to several things :

Ruby's struggles with sharing her problems

Oscar's comforting nature & willingness to listen

The fact that Ruby was the only character to reaffirm Oscar's personhood & lift him up in V6

The fact that Oscar is the only person who managed to get Ruby to externalize her sorrow

I imagined this song as back and forth between the two, each talking & trying to comfort the other.

A few noteworthy lyrics :

"You don't have to be a hero to save the world" "You don't have to be a prodigy to be unique" "You don't have to be anybody you can never be"

From Ruby to Oscar, these easily echoes his worries about the merge and her reassurances. When Oscar worried of being just another of Ozpin's life, when he felt like he had no inherent value & nothing to give to the group; Ruby was the one who told him that "Of course not.". Ruby likes Oscar as just Oscar, and she's grateful for his help whether Ozpin is there or not. He doesn't need to be a century-old hero or a prodigy; or anyone other than himself.

"It doesn't make you a narcissist to love yourself" "That's alright, let it out, talk to me" "Let your words release your pain"

On the other hand, Oscar is steadfast in trying to establish an honest relationship with Ruby. Countrary to many characters, even if he admires her drive & optimism, Oscar has never tried to forcefully drag it back to the surface when Ruby's feeling down. On the countrary he gave us the Dojo scene aka Ruby's only admission of trauma; and has expressed hesitance and uncertainty at some of her decisions without being accusatory. Oscar likes Ruby, struggles and all, and if she ever needs to confide, she can come to him and know that he will listen and not just try to *fix* it.

"You and I will share the weight Growing stronger day by day"

Two beans, with their special "thing" (silver eyes & wizard soul) Though Oscar was but an unexperienced boy when they met; he's grown a lot since then. Him & Ruby are clearly equal; more than she is with her own team in some ways (by virtue of being their leader). And as two people who have their own kind of "chosen one" power, they're major players & allies who can share the weight of the war against Salem, growng stronger along the way.

Overall just a comforthing & wholesome song, acknowledging that the world might be dark & rough, but there are ways to keep warm together if you only share your pain with others and listen to their love.

I strive on the RG love and asexual Rosegarden content I've been seeing lately, so take this shipping chart ✨

I just can't decide between the two fors Ruby because... it kind of goes both way ??? Like Ruby definitely feels as INFP for the first half of the series; she's got a clear Fi > Ne preference... But then when she develops her Tert in V6 it's just... Te ? And she really doesn't show much Si actually she fits more the Si inf vibe in the form of forgetting about bad memories and her mom until people dig it up and she's like "nooo !" ?? So it looks like Te > Si but also Fi > Ne; conclusion idfk

Clear Fi tert rearing its head along with the 1 so I'm going with ISTJ; I also never really saw any Ne. Her type isn't too disagreed upon so tell me if you want a lenghtier explanation.

Wooh this might get the anger of some (i have experience with the INFJ typers) but Blake goddamn REEKS of Fi. Less so recently but for the first seasons oh my god. She straights up catch you by the shirt and tells you "I'm doing the right thing"; and said right thing is so heavily dependant on her own subjectives values, which is why Blake can't reconcile with the current White Fang; because she doesn't have a strong Je vision of "what objectively works in the end", she only sees actions in terms of immediate right and wrong, and this b&w dichotomy stems from herself. What the WF is doing is wrong and the circumstances don't matter for judging the morality of their actions (of course I'm not talking about murder here bc that's pretty wrong ALL THE TIME but for example the stealing occuring in V1 bc of the WF is a better example)

In my list Pyrrha is currently written down as ISFJ but that's mostly based on the general consensus and me wanting to get rid of the XX. I don't actually have any convincing arguments to decide on Ni or Si, so I could go either way if someone else makes their case well. I feel like she's Fe aux more than dom, but even about that I could change my mind. Pyrrha didn't have that much screentime in the end :((

Ironically I'm not sure about his type, kind of like you. I've mentionned I'm not very good at picking up on Ti right ? And Ren was a background character before V4 really. I had him written down as ISTP for a while but I've seen some convincing arguments for ISTJ so I might lean toward that actually but who knows. The thing I'm very confident about is his 5 fix = )

Again, not enough screentime for me to make an educated guess. My only certainty is : not high Fi. It's the source of their conflicts. Blake confidence in absolute right & wrong, tracing lines in the sand between acceptable & unacceptable. Whereas Ilia can only shake her head and say "Because it works", or cry out "I don't know what else to do !"

I honestly don't really have much of an opinion about Adam's MBTI, i'm sorry anon ;; I don't know enough about how he thinks

I would personally call him an INFJ. I... never really got INTP vibes from him ? I don't see the Fe inf work out with his interactions : he's always rather at ease, he knows how to navigate around people... His focus inherently lies on doing what's best for the "group", the people, humanity. Fx functions are both concerned with ethics, in different ways, and I think Oz reflects that well. He IS concerned with the moral weight of his actions, but it's a more adaptable and unpersonnal concern than Fi people. He regards Ironwood's soul machines as something wrong, but can still agree to use it if the situations demand it for example. So... if the INFJ + 5 makes sense to you, well that's what I'm typing him personally. I also feel like Ni fits him more than Ne. Ozpin has a very linear way of planning, he does use his fair share of symbolism in every day conversation... Even when taking decisions, he... kind of cares about the meaning of things a lot ? It's hard to explain but like; the way he highlights the difference between an army and a guardian, and the emotionnal response it brings. I don't know it feels like there's some Ni vibes in there x)

Oscar's type honestly isn't the one I would have the easiest time explaining in lenght but yea. It's mostly vibes; also just like Ozpin he doesn't seem to have a particularly Fi reasonning. And he feels more grounded, I don't really remember any Ni so... yay ?

Ironwood • ENFJ 6w5 1w2 3w4 (pre-Vol8); ENTJ (post-Vol8)

Might be weird if you think he was a dictator from the start, but I kind of entertained the idea of Ironwood being Fe dom ? From his very first interaction it was very clear that he was a Je dom to me; he's all about objective results; he doesn't give off the "internal framework" or "personnal values" vibe AT ALL; so it was more a matter of picking Te or Fe. He LOOKS super Te don't get me wrong; but he also has an enneagram tritype that is very common amongst XXTJs (and TJs stereotypes thus derive from it). And just like Oz, his focus at all time seemed to be the greater good and doing what's best for the people still. So I was like... Eh, a "harsh" ENFJ I think that's interesting ? Plus Fe ethics actually derive from their environment, kinda like "everyone agrees that Y is wrong", and if you consider that James is from Atlas... Well his way of thinking and ethics align pretty well with the military.

His character took a turn for the worse in V8 (whether too quick or not depends on who you ask) and past that point he's a clear ENTJ; but I feel like it was more debatable before that. Idk though I might be overthinking this in the hope of making more interesting combinations xD

I don't really see anything else than ISTP for Qrow... But he's not a character I would want to find Ti arguments for either.

She just cares more about her personal relationships and being loved, so she automatically looks much nicer, especially with 2 mechanisms of trying to make herself useful and needed. Also because she's surrounded by 8-ish people xD

➸ Yang suffers from Raven's abandonment, knowing that her mother left and didn't consider her daughter important enough to *stay* for. For YEARS she knew nothing of her. And saying that Raven didn't want to want Yang seems pretty accurate.

➸ It's thanks to her father & uncle that Yang is so very aware of what love (actual love) is. It's why Yang is so different from Raven, why she cares so much and isn't impressed by Raven's attempts at "kindness". She wanted to know her mother & why she left. But after years and years wondering... the time to "come back" is long lost. Yang is far from impressed by Raven's philosophy.

➸ All in all, it's clear that if Yang is so well-adjusted most of the time it's because she had her own family, without Raven, that she could always count on. Her father who, having given up on the Hunter life, took care of his daughters & loved them as best as he could. Her uncle who, unlike his twin, chose to STAY as much as he was allowed. A credit to how fiercely Qrow loves as well, that shows how different the twins are.

➸ Raven might have abandonned Yang, but Yang isn't planning on doing the same. She'll be there for Ruby as much as possible, and she can feel safe in the knowledge that Tai & Qrow will always be there for the both of them as well.

I've been having THOUGHTS again (very dangerous I know, someone take my brain away) but about Summer this time bc I saw a post with the same premise aka...

Please, PLEASE don't make her a Ruby 2.0

The show kind of loves to emphasize their Ruby-Summer similarities... Their designs are very similar, and most of the time when her personnality is mentionned it's to drive home how much Ruby took after her.

But I really don't want it to BE that ?

EVERYONE is their own person. And even then in general, trapping a child in the confines of who their parents were is bad for them on many levels. It stifles growth and self-expression and in Ruby's case since her mom is very appreciated by those she left behind, it's also a kind of "role model" she feels she HAS to reach. Even though Ruby's growth right now should lean more toward acknowedging her flaws, her trauma with honesty and gentleness instead of being "perfect" like her mom. I don't want Ruby teared down, but i also don't particularly want 3 speeches a day about how good she is because it doesn't help nor fixes her core issues.

BUT ANYWAY, back to Summer Rose. Make Summer her own characters. Give her flaws, her own personnality, her own dreams. Why did she join Beacon academy ? How did she get along with everyon ? What I love most about her design are the little things that differentiate her from Ruby. A warmer skin (though let's be honest Ruby being pale as a sheet makes no sense when BOTH of her parents are more tanned wyd RT xD); a white cape; hair even redder that her daughter

Give me a Summer who has the same drive and optimism as her daughter but who is her own person. Give me a bratty Summer. Give me a Summer who knows how to make herself respected. A Summer who is warm and bright and sunny but won't coddle you. A Summer with a temper. A Summer who went toe to toe with Qrow's shenanigans. A Summer able to butt heads with Raven without flinching and laught it off afterwards like a warm summer wind.

In a fanfiction I read, someone went ahead and gave Summer & Clover parallels and similarities as a way to tie up how easily Qrow fell into that relationship. Give me this sort of thing : let Summer exist outside of Ruby. Tell Yang how she inherited some of her mother's quirks too. She knew her in a way Ruby didn't. Show that.

Give me her mistakes and her flaws without making Ruby the "upgraded" version who is everything Summer was without her failings. Instead, give me a human Summer and a human Ruby who are both their own person with their own flaws, similar but also so very different. Let Ruby recognize that without making it about "being Summer but better". I know that "the world is in good hands with the new generation, they're better than us" is compelling to many and there were already hints of that...

But I wish for something slightly different. Just a step to the left

Mercury & Emerald : emotional vulnerability ? never heard of her. Just on slightly opposite ends of the axis

RWBY just love piling up the angst & breakdowns on their emotionally-stunted adult men am I right. Sorry about that Oz, James, Qrow.

I made myself sad with this meme bc I realized that the last box is basically just characters who learnt that disagreeing lead nowhere good and they can't win :) (headcannonish in Tai's case but I just can't see Raven concede a point to anyone in a debate) *holds gently the three* You deserve better.

For clarification :

- Cinder only avoids people who disagree with her in the sense that she kills them. - Maria ain't got time to argue with people and she doesn't care.

- JRP + O are civilized and then there's Nora - RWBY all have different ways of dealing with disagreements so I guess they're balanced in that sense at least

I established the difference between "Their opinion is as valid as mine" & "I will talk to them" in that characters in the latter are firmly convinced to be right and aim to change others' mind. Whereas characters of the former category have their opinions but don't necessarily think they're more right.

Some fun headcannon includes : - James Ironwood is nearly half metal, and his all of his organs aren't intact. He metabolizes slowly and is actually a lightweight because of this. Since he overworks himself a lot, drinking tends to knock him out cleanly. It's a tactic his friends use to put him to sleep when he's exhausted but refuses to stop.

- Ozpin rarely drinks around others for fear of letting slip out truths he isn't ready to share. Qrow managed to convince him sometimes, and tipsy Ozpin's would always end up sharing embarassing or unpolite anecdotes about his stuck-up political entourage or figureheads of the past.

- Marrow is the baby of the Ace-Opps and a drunk Marrow is a loose canon. There's an unspoken rule that he must be looked after at all time when they go out drinking.

- Oscar and Ren will fall on asleep on one another quickly. Nora and Yang stay up late into the night, they're up to no good and their shenanigans are demultiplied on drinking nights.

- Weiss and Jaune aren't good with alcohool. Jaune has a hard time judging when enough is enough so he often ends up laying on the ground with slight nausea. Weiss knows what to expect and thus drink very little : she prefers to take care of the more inebriated ones.

- Blake, Whitley and Emerald are constantly filmed during drinking nights bc the loss of inhibition make them surprisingly earnest & wholesome :)

RWBY Analysis - Ozpin & Ruby, on the concept of leadership

In her song "Burned out", Dodie sings of her fans, how they look up to her and how uneasy that realization made her. For everyone is at the end of the day just as human as their neighbour; and having the hopes and expectations of others put upon you when you're just as lost as them can be a frightening thing. And this... made me think of Ruby & Ozpin.

On the subject of leadership, Ozpin tells Ruby the following : “Being a team leader isn't just a title you carry into battle, but a badge you wear constantly. If you are not always performing at your absolute best, then what reason do you give others to follow you?”

While I love this quote, I also have to analyze the drawbacks of this mentality and how they align with both Ozpin and Ruby. At the time, Ruby is a newly appointed leader and unsure of this reality. Ozpin's counsel give her the confidence needed to step up as a leader and take her duties more seriously, which in return appeases Weiss' and make their team all the more balanced. It is, in that context, good advice. A good leader should strive to lead by example and work hard to be worthy of the respect others give them, both in and outside of battle.

However there is one aspect that I find much more complex and that is... what does it mean to "always perform at your absolute best" and to have others follow you ? Note the use of follow, people letting you lead alone as opposed to "standing by your side" or a similar expression. It showcases in my opinion one of the biggest problem of Ozpin's leadership, but one that I feel has been inadvertently repeated by Ruby's.

To cultivate hope and lies

When it comes to Ozpin's lies, I am of the firm belief that he had good intentions. Soo if you think he's the scorn of this earth, this might be a good time to tap out :D Now, this said I have a lot to say on the subject but I'll keep this short to stay on track (& make another unrelated post to develop my thoughts.)

In my opinion, at the core of his lies stand different beliefs. And on the subject of leadership, I think one stands out in particular and aligns with the advice he gave Ruby : the need to perform at your best to give others a reason to follow you.

Ozpin is the reincarnation of a centuries-old wizard and the headmaster of a school : what is one aspect almost every character agrees on upon meeting him ? "Oh, he's wise. He's knowledgeable. He has the answers. He has his shit together. He can tell us what to do."

Inherently, Ozpin's existence inspires respect and reassure. Just like to a child, a parent is all-knowing and unbreakable, Ozpin's status automatically give others the assumption that he knows what he's doing. And this, in my opinion, is one of the core problems of his leadership.

May it be with his inner circle, with RWBY, with ANYONE really; as soon as Ozpin reveals himself there are unspoken expectations that will chain him. He has the knowledge, he was here when it all began, he's the one calling the shots so he HAS to know exactly what to do. In that situation, breaking down and revealing to everyone how lost Ozpin is, how out of his depth... is unconceivable. And this is where Ozpin's conception of leadership becomes a problem as well. If you always perform "at your best" then you keep your doubts to yourself, you hide your sorrows and you put on a brave face. There are expectations in place that Ozpin wants (needs even) to meet. And thus the hopes of others and Ozpin's desire to fulfill them feed one another, as a perfect recipe for disaster. Because the more time Ozpin spends acting as if everything is under control, the more the expectations pile up... And coming clean about his humanity, the fact that he's just as powerless as the rest of them, becomes impossible.

And in that sense, breaking down the pedestal Ozpin had been put on was probably one of the best thing to do for his own mental health (though the method lacked a bit of compassion in my opinion xD)

The other part that somehow causes problem is how RELIANT on him his inner circle is. Despite their apparent friendship, Ozpin is the clear leader and as soon as he's out of comission, everything falls apart. Ironwood is the only one to call out Oz but in the end still wishes for the wizard to tell him what to do in period of stress. Qrow plays spy and takes order but doesn't seem really interested in stading at Ozpin's side as an equal. Glynda is stern but still defers to him etc...

All of them FOLLOW Ozpin but are just a few steps off from standing at his side. And this is something I see reflected in Ruby.

Following optimism up until it fails you

In Vol6, as secrets and lies are brought to the light, the loss of Hope that Ozpin feared so deeply happens. Is it worth it ? What are we even going to do with an immortal foe ? Maybe we should just go home. In that situation, Ruby is the simple soul who manages to keep her optimism, stand tall and say "No. We are taking the lamp to Atlas." And from then on her position as a leader and a bacon of light is reaffirmed. As Jaune put it in V4 "You gave us the courage to follow you."

Now is that, in itself, a problem ? Of course not. In fact I loved seeing Ruby come into herself and take the lead in Vol6. The problem in truth comes after, from the ramifications. From Vol6 onward, Ozpin has essentially been rid of his leader position and Ruby inherited it. And on a surface level sure, they are pretty different. Ruby is certainly closer to her partners : they're a family and they care about each other.

However, she is still clearly put at the lead. The others relied on Ruby's optimism and resilience to get to Atlas, and continue to do so. Setting foot in Ironwood's office, Blake tells Ruby "We'll follow your lead". They trust her, and whatever Ruby does... goes. They lie to Ironwood and Yang expresses some hesitations but eventually rally to Ruby's decision. And I emphasize this again : it is Ruby's decision. They did not pre-emptively discuss this as a group and then let Ruby be the spoke-person. Yang herself in Vol8 criticizes not their actions but Ruby's choices. Ruby calls the shots, Ruby is responsible for what happens, Ruby is their beacon of hope... Ruby is the new Ozpin.

Ruby has to be optimistic, and make the decisions and take risks because she's the leader. When Ruby leaves the room to break down, conversation & strategy stalls : the others don't take the lead. When things go south, it's Ruby's choices that led them here. Ever since Ruby has left Beacon, the only person who consistently encouraged Ruby to express the BAD, to share the negative has been Oscar. Even her silver eyes ask her to focus on only the happy memories to go off without a hitch ! The others comfort, they smile, they trust, they love even. But they don't want depressed Ruby finally grieving, they don't want honest "I don't know what to do" : they try to bring back confident and optimistic "we're gonna try" Ruby Rose. They want their earnest and happy but ultimately perfect leader that gives them reason to follow. In the end, even if they deeply care for her and have no shortage of warm coated reassurances for the teen, they still chain her down with their expectations. Ruby is NOT built for this. And I don't even say that in the "why is a kid calling the shots" sense, but "why is a kid put in a position where she's RESPONSIBLE for calling the shots ?"

Ruby is the youngest of the group apart from Oscar. The others should not rely on her this much to function. Blake telling Ruby that she looks up to her and that they'll follow her lead is admittedly sweet, but still builds up the pressure weighing her down. Blake calling out for Ruby's help when the teen has just been crashed to the ground by the Hound isn't even sweet anymore. They're all supposed to be equals. Blake is just as capable as Ruby. Calling out to your mind-controlled friend to bring them back from the edge is good. Calling out to your 17-old sister who's been beaten up because you need her to fight isn't.

They need to recognize that Ruby should not hold up the place alone. Because yes, they love her. But at the end of the day, Ruby is still the one bearing the weight of their decisions... Alone, even surrounded.

RWBY's Love Language - Part 1

Okay so I'm very new to Tumblr and that means I don't know yet how everything works lol So this is kind of supposed to be a reblog except if I use reblogs then it won't show up in the main tags and I spent too much time on it for that soo; here goes (and I'll edit my reblog afterwards) Inspired by greenteaandtattoos' post "Everyone has a different way to express their affection towards someone. This is called a love language. Each person has a different one. Not everyone expresses their love through intimate physical contact. Some enjoy praises, and others find the strongest love through hugs." What would be everyone's love language in RWBY then ? Here's my opinion !

Ruby Rose

Ruby's main love language would be Words of Affirmation ! From her tendency for optimistic speeches to how honest she is in her relationships, I think a lot points to that really. Her love is freely given, and she is earnest in a way that enables her comfort to land & reassure. Touch is used a lot within RWBY to symbolize the bonds between people and Ruby isn't an exception. But in her case it's aaaalways paired with words and a heartfelt talk. If you're feeling down one way or another, you only have to ask Ruby and she'll tell you just how incredible you are and how to find the strenght to keep going. (Also particularly visible with Penny & Oscar. Whether romantic or platonic one thing is for sure : these three deserve each other <3 )

“You think just because you've got nuts and bolts instead of squishy guts makes you any less real than me?”

“Hey, Oscar? This isn't gonna be easy, but the fact that you're even trying says a lot about you. You're braver than you think.”

For our resident Ice Queen, I would lean more toward Quality Time. During her convo with Yang, Weiss expresses a sense of loss at how isolated she felt in her own house despite everyone living together mostly because there was a strong lack of family time. "Separate lunches & dinners, then it was no recitals..." In general, Weiss' relationships really shine when she's allowed a moment to just BE with the person she cares about. These scenes are rather diverse but still boil down to simply spending time with others. May it be by listening to Yang, making coffee for everyone, going to the movie with Oscar & Jaune or training with Winter... All of these are show of love in Weiss' eyes.

“I would do anything for you three, and I'm willing to bet Blake feels the same way. So, when she's ready, I'll be there for her. And I know we're not as close, but... I'm here for you too.” “It was really good to see you, Winter.” “I've always wanted bunk beds as a kid.”

I'm much less sure of what Blake's preferred love language would be.. Partly because I feel like she mirrors others a lot. And because of that I don't know how much of it is her own preference. However, for lack of a counter-example I'll say that Blake does seem to have a thing for Physical Touch. She feels safe in her father's arm, she reciprocates Sun's shoulder comfort, Yang & her have many soft touches together and group hugs are the best. I'm not quite certain of how much Blake initiates in this kind of love conversation but it's safe to say she doesn't have an aversion to it. On the countrary !

And I hope they hate me for leaving.” “It's about time I saved my friends for once.” “I don't have a choice. I have people who actually care about me, and I promised I'd never leave them again. So I'm not dying now.”

For our local hand-to-hand fighter I have to go with Physical Touch ! Out of everyone in team RWBY, Yang is the one who communicates the most through all kind of touches. Linking hands, forehead touches, hugs and even sparring, the sunny dragon shows her care with her whole self and others naturally reciprocate that language. Yang isn't the most eloquent with her affection, and conversation can be hard because she's got opinions and isn't scared of showing them. But her touches are especially tender and always go beyond the simple act of hugging. It's a melody of "I missed you too", "I forgive you" and "I love you" all wrapped up in the softest brush of hands; and I'm certain it's what matters most to her.

“You can spout off whatever you want, but nothing is going to keep me from my sister.” “I've missed you, too.” “No one blamed her for anything! If she had just talked to us, she would've known that! How could I be there for her if she doesn't let me? What if I needed her here for me?”

Lie Ren (why does no one in the show call him by his 1st name actually ? Were we ever given a reason ? It's weird. Anyway - ) Lie Ren sucks at talking. Emoting is not his forte, grand displays of love though hugs and tender words either. But one thing is for sure : you can count on him for everything else. He's the responsible one. When Oscar is in trouble, Ren is the most hellbent on saving him. He's the cook of the group, as well as an open ear to anyone who might need one. Acts of Service is the way he shows how much he cares day by day. And though he could certainly stands to get better at articulating how he feels... Being the best partner you can be and making sure you're always here to help when needed is just as important.

For not being as good as the Ace Ops, for what happened at Robyn's rally, for losing the lamp. I thought if I just focused on working harder, getting stronger, that we...I, wouldn't fail. ” “You know I've... never... been really good with talking.”

For our resident and lovely Penny, I'll have to go with Physical Touch and Acts of Service ! From the very beginning, Penny has had a passion for tight hugs, tackles, fist bumps and let's not forget... hand-holding. Our favorite robot loves nothing more than to share comforting touches with others, and the care that shows through them. And NO I don't buy the whole "never felt the warmth of hug before getting a human body", take that canon elsewhere and throw it in the trash ! Penny has always been enthusiastic and loving; and it's though physical touch that she's best comforted. Additionally, Penny took the sentence of "always help your friends" right to the next level, and you can be certain that if there's anything she can do for you, any way to help... She'll get right to it, and you have absolutely no chance of deterring her.

Also Penny more than deserve a second gif for how wonderful she is, so take it and not a word.

And then it's Vomit Boy time as they say. If you're thinking "wow we're really lacking in the Gift Giving love language" well... You're right. Since no one ever gives others gifts in RWBY, I feel like that's the hardest to guess lol. However, among our heroes Jaune in particular seems to care about material memories in more tangible ways than the other. He rebuilt his sword around Pyrrha's weapons, and kept her red sash as well. It seems highly plausible then than Gift Giving might be a way for him to show care & affection as long as he's allowed to put a lot of thought in the gift. Other than that, I'd say Words of Affirmation is a safe bet as well : him and Ruby are certainly good at tag-teaming to lift the other up along the way of a conversation.

“I guess... I'm just trying to say that... you've always been there for me... even when I didn't deserve it. And I can tell there's something on your mind, so... I don't know. How can I help?” “You didn't drag us along. You gave us the courage to follow you.” “Ruby is your sister, she's always going to love you even if you disagree with each other.”

Nora, Nora, Nora... Is anyone really surprised by this conclusion ? I should hope not because it's one of the easiest to notice ! Physical Touch is Nora's go-to way of showing her care to others. She's the glue in JNR group hugs, Oscar probably has a few bruised ribs because of the strenght of her taclking hugs, she initiated the Boopness in her relationship with Ren and she's always delighted with getting back some of that physical affection. While Nora could probably stand to learn to tone it down a little for the sake of those who are not as comfortable with this kind of discussion, she's still a lovely girl and has a good grasp on emotionnal intelligence overall. She's earnest and caring and gives her all in her relationships, and even Oscar is able to appreciate her hugs when her enthusiasm takes the backseat to her gentleness <3
