especially when it comes to women having facial hair there are a surprising amount of "feminists" who are just offended by the proposition that some women don't see their facial hair as tragic. Their feelings do not matter because every woman with facial hair should just wish it didn't exist and "automatically" separate themselves from whatever insults they use. You literally do not have a feminist argument to stand on with this. It is still body shaming and it is still bad.

I’ve been going back and forth on posting anything rebloggable about Eden Knight, because simply posting something feels like…such a non-action. But it’s worse to say nothing at all, and the people who loved her clearly want her story to be known. So I’ll try.

A Saudi trans woman named Eden Knight died by suicide after her parents hired two American “fixers” and a Saudi lawyer to traffic her back to Saudi Arabia and forcibly detransition her. Her loved ones have put together a document about this tragedy in hopes that something can be done:

docs.google.com
Eden Abduction Details

I feel like the cultural piece of this hasn’t get discussed, and i understand why; I’ve seen plenty of utterly sickening commentary from people who can’t be normal about the idea of a trans Saudi, but I feel I’m in a position to break the silence around this, as being a queer Arab myself, the nuances aren’t lost on me. So I’ll try that too:

Arab culture is patriarchal (like most cultures are), communal, and honor-based, which contributes to many Arab parents wholeheartedly believing that they own their children and that they need to control them to prevent any “dishonorable” behavior, even at the cost of death. This is not unique to Arab culture, and I’m really simplifying here, but this is why honor killings happen, and I think it’s remiss to not name the honor-based violence at play in what happened to Eden. She threatened her family’s honor by not adhering to the gendered role coercively assigned to her, and so they inflicted the conditions that led to her death upon her. And I can guarantee that, had her parents not had the money to hire some of their fellow monsters to destroy their daughter, they’d have recruited extended family to stalk her or found another way instead. Honor culture is self-policing.

It’s also remiss to not name the other forces that killed Eden: transmisogyny in both the United States and Saudi Arabia—the latter obviously being worse than the former, but fleeing to the former DID NOT PROTECT HER, so USAmericans can hold off from being smug about her being Saudi, thanks—and her migrant status. The State, capital-S, and its borders assisted Eden’s parents in this.

We need support networks that can actually help trans people with complex cultural/legal situations like this. We need support networks to prevent honor-based violence, which primarily impacts women and LGBT people of any gender. “Just cut off your parents” isn’t helpful when you’ve been raised to internalize this level of guilt and shame, and it especially isn’t helpful when your parents are willing to find you and abduct you to protect their image. There needs to be SOMETHING to prevent tragedies as horrific as this. I can’t say I have the answers. But there needs to be some understanding of how far this honor shit can go, how it can cross borders, and how even people who have found community outside their abusive families can still be very vulnerable to it.

I’m so sorry, Eden. You deserved the world. Rest in peace.

The atheists who hate the terms "culturally Christian" or "Christianized" atheist/atheism, need to come to a reckoning with the fact that most of the people talking about the phenomenon of Christian cultural practices and default assumptions remaining present in atheist communities in historically Christian and Christianized parts of the world, are in fact also atheists.

Jewish atheists, and other atheists from non-Christian cultural backgrounds latched on to "culturally Christian" as a term to describe the ways in which atheist communities dominated by people from majority Christian, or majority Christianized, countries, are hostile to us and don't recognize our forms of atheism and secularism as legitimate, in spite of the fact that we also don't believe in any deity. it also became a convenient term to talk about the ways in which atheists from culturally Christian backgrounds frequently insist that to be properly secular, properly an atheist, you have to assimilate into a specific set of cultural practices viewed by these particular atheists as culturally and religiously neutral, AKA secular. "Culturally Christian" is a convenient term used to point out that these are not in fact culturally neutral practices, and that there are forms of atheism that do not include them, and include other cultural practices, and that atheists from other cultural backgrounds should not have to assimilate into another culture, for our atheism to be considered valid.

So like, the fact that the response to the term culturally Christian is to paint the non culturally Christian people using it, as religious people going after atheists as atheists, is both an example of a culturally Christian phenomenon, and also really obnoxious and ironic, given that the people who are making this argument are usually making it from within the atheist community. We are also atheists, which is why this phenomenon actually matters to us. This is an intra-community discussion, and trying to frame it as the mean religious people going after the atheists, erases our atheism, and is really annoying, and the only thing it serves to do, is to protect the people using this framing, from having to confront what those of us talking about the phenomenon are actually saying.

I’m a faggot. I’m a dyke. I’m a tranny. I’m a crossdresser. I’m a transvestite. I’m a pervert. I’m a queer. I am everything and anything and nothing if I want to be. I am every gay, lesbian, trans, ace, bi, nonbinary, queer person that walked this earth before me and will walk this earth after me. No one and I mean no one will ever strip my identity away from me. I am alive. I am here. I am you, your friend, your relative, your coworker, your neighbour, the stranger you opened the door for. No dirty fucking bootlicker will ever get to extinguish my existence. No fucking law or legislation will ever erase me. I will scream, I will bleed, I will fight, I will riot like the elders before me did. My history is written in blood and in sex and in community and in love. I am the passion and filth and desire and hope and anger and hurt and love of all of us. You can change laws, you can silence us, you can try and fucking kill us but we will never die. We will never be erased. We will never stop fighting. You can not kill us. We are everywhere and we are filled with more rage than you can possibly fucking imagine and our love is stronger than your hatred. My brothers, sisters, siblings, fags, dykes, trannys, and all of my queers will outlive you because you can’t kill us. You’ve tried so many times and we’re still here. We will always fucking be here. You want a fight? We’ll give you a fucking riot and we will burn it all down. Fuck you.

hey im in trouble and i need help

for context:

hi, you can call me cass or whatever fits, even my user, i have no preference. i prefer masc/neu honorifics if any though. im disabled, ND, queer, 20 y/o, and starting college again in the fall.

i got fired from my last job, i have no money, im going to apply for a student loan and everything thats going on has put a huge halt on my plans for moving out and getting any further aids and support beyond my cane and medication.

my family is really low on money right now, we cant even buy food this week or possibly even for the next week, let alone pay for our medication.

i have commissions and donations open, im trying hard to do what i can to get by, but im really struggling in such a tight situation and could really use any help i can get.

if you cant help monetarily but can help some other way, even just reblogging this so people who can help can see this, thats okay too! any support means the world right now, if theres anything anyone can offer my asks and dms are open for discussion.

my kofi is below, if you need any other info or have any ideas or just generally anything please let me know.

i dont like making these kinds of posts and reaching out because i always fear they never actually get anywhere but im at such a low right now its worth trying.

again even if you cant offer any money just reblogging this post and helping spread my reach for help is appreciated /srs /np

Trans politician Zooey Zephyr is getting twittercanceled by the right for tweeting horny Genshin Impact fanart. This is in fact a real thing that’s happening. Say what you want about the Republican Party but they provide some absolutely mind-numbingly bizarre moments.

it makes me laugh when ppl say that trans men who “pass” will never have problems bc there’s a cis guy on tik tok who gets endlessly harassed by transphobes bc he had surgery for gynecomastia so ppl are convinced he’s a trans man.

I think we desperately need more focus on exorsexism/nbphobia & analysis of nonbinary place in society that doesn't just generalize binary experiences. It's very very exhausting seeing nonbinary things barely every get discussed UNLESS they can be grouped under transfem/transmasc issues.

& this is kind of hypocritical of me to say because I know that "nonbinary" is such an expansive term on purpose! and I like that! maybe we need different terminology because like both as someone who is equally a man and a woman (androgyne) & as someone who is agender+neutrois there are experiences I have that are not addressed by such binary-focused thinking. Even when people are inclusive of nonbinary people... you still rarely see discussions ABOUT androgynes or neutral people that center us and explore the ways we are treated AS nonbinary people. Like the ways that misandrogyny has made me feel scared of being androgynous & the feeling that androgyny is inherently ugly. The internalized distress of wondering if it's even possible to be transneutral when woman/manhood is so defined by community and there just isn't any of that for us (literally smth that caused a huge depressive episode a few months ago). The lack of awareness about alternative HRT/SRS. The lack of androgynous and neutral and third-gendered language for us to describe ourselves & our relationships. The way that a LOT of binary trans people throughout the modern history of the trans community consider/ed nonbinary identity ad a stepping stone towards binary identity, something lesser that you only do when you can't commit (hello biphobia!), AND as something that somehow makes you safer, you don't suffer as much- as if it's safer being physically androgynous around transphobes when it's your desired presentation- you arent as REAL. Literally transmeds will argue that exorsexism doesn't exist because it's all "just transphobia" and "not unique" (god that sounds familiar). The forced binarization of all of us & also the forced degendering of androgynes who are never allowed to be considered "real" men and "real" women. The idea that two transneutral people who present the same SHOULD be forced into the transmasc/transfem binary based on their AGABs because "that's all cis people see so it's what matters the most," which only serves to disconnect us from each other & silence us calling out the exorsexism we experience from those communities.

This got longer than I meant but tl;dr we deserve better methinks

Commissions open, surprise! I no longer have disposable income

Hi, my name’s Marc. I'm a disabled, openly-queer and intersex indigenous-Asian man who makes art when his spinal cord injury isn't chaining him to bed. I make a fraction of minimum wage, and despite my best efforts, the already laughably-low rate I'm paid monthly has been halved without warning. All of my income has to go to food for my elderly parents and younger brother – I no longer have any money left in our combined budget for anything other than food. I'm at a loss for what to do other than open pay-what-you-want commissions, so here we are. Here're some examples of my work:

a loose, impressionistic flat-color drawing of a herrerasaurus, a late triassic dinosaur among the earliest known dinos. it's in a pouncing stance and is covered in messy feathers. said feathers are colored shades of sandy grey and slate grey; as the pattern is taken from the zebra dove, it has a ring of zebra-striped feathers around its neck.
two leporid demons holding a long bolt of gold cloth. the left one is red and brown with cream whiskers and looks to the right one for approval; the right one is white with grey points and a red-bladed scythe while inspecting the cloth in awe. both have stylized wings for ears.
bust of a dark reddish-brown qilin with a blue-green mane and jaguar spots, a cream underbelly, a blue stripe from in between the eyes to the nose, and a mule's face markings.
bust of a medium-brown anthro cat-dog with closed eyes and a wide grin. they are surrounded by hearts colored with pride flags. vertical text on the side reads "we are proud of who we are," and the word "proud" is colored with the progress pride flag.

Humanoid, furry/anthro, feral, mech & robot, landscape, character design, and NSFW including kinks are all OK. I'm open to doing subjects and topics not listed as well. Price quotes are free and asking for subject-specific examples is welcome.

You can see more examples and my ToS on my Ko-Fi page and pay for a commission there.

My dudes

Don’t think of the strike as “wah i’m not getting my shows”.

Think of it as “If they don’t - I’LL NEVER GET ANY SHOWS AGAIN”.

Because, you know, they won’t be there to write them. Because they can’t eat nothing. They can’t write if they have no laptops. Or houses. Or electricity. Or paper. Or pens. Which all funnily enough cost money.

Pay them what they’re worth - or they can’t afford to keep working.

And then no one gets what they want.

actually while I think about it, I want to give a shout out to every congenitally disabled person whose disability was not discovered until they were a teenager or adult, and spent their entire lives up to that point being told they were lazy, stupid, uncoordinated, or not trying hard enough

shout out to all of us who should have been helped from the day we were born, and instead were just made to feel like we were worthless for not being able to perform like our abled peers

Research on transsexuals also shows how the elicitation of deference depends on the type of man one is perceived to be. Based on in-depth interviews with 29 transmen, Schilt (2006) found that whereas white transmen beginning to work as men were taken more seriously, had their requests readily met, and were evaluated as more competent than they were as women, young, small Black, Latino, and Asian transmen did not gain similar advantages. Similarly, in her interview study of 18 transmen, Dozier (2005) found that, as men, white transmen reported being given more respect and more conversational space and being included in men's banter. They also experienced less public harassment. Transmen of color, on the other hand, reported being more frequently treated as criminals, and short and effeminate transmen reported being publicly harassed as gay. Gaining the full privileges of manhood is thus shown to depend not merely on being recognized as male, but on the whole ensemble of signs that are conventionally taken as evidence of a masculine self.

— Men, Masculinity, and Manhood Acts by Douglas Schrock and Michael Schwalbe (2009)

im so done with seeing articles about kids and screen time that doesnt mention parent behaviors even once. “kids are always on their phones” so are the parents! which the kids look to for how they should behave! ipad babies didn’t chose to only play on their ipads, thats what their parents gave them!

an anecdotal example: when i was a kid, all my parents would do in their minimal free time was watch tv and then they would be surprised when in my sister and i’s minimal free time we would also only watch tv/play video games. they scolded us for not reading books, but they never read books. they scolded us for not going outside but they never went outside.

“kids are always on their damn phones” my mom is in her 60s and opens up candy crush anytime she’s sitting — it isnt just the kids

Tragedy and vet bills have suddenly drained us of rent money.

cw: animal death, animal sickness

Tragedy And Vet Bills Have Suddenly Drained Us Of Rent Money.

Rory, my beautiful sweet baby boy of almost 13 years, died last night. He got out of the apartment somehow and I found him in the grass a street over from us. There were no signs of anything violent happening to him, so he must have gotten into something toxic. It had only been a few hours since everyone in the house had last seen him.

I am utterly devastated. Rory had been with me through five moves and several traumatic experiences. He meant the world to me.

This tragedy also struck the night I was literally waiting on bated breath for our paycheck to drop, because our dog, Hela, has been very sick for the past few days and we couldn't afford to take her to the vet until we got paid.

Tragedy And Vet Bills Have Suddenly Drained Us Of Rent Money.

Hela appears to be in much better spirits today and after seeing the vet and getting medication for her, that anxiety is on the back burner for now.

Our main concern now is that fact that we are short on rent. The vet bill for Hela's needs and Rory's cremation just set us back by nearly $700 and we owe our landlord $1070. We're going to start getting $25 a day late fees tacked on if we aren't paid up by the 6th.

I'm running on about 2hrs of sleep right now and I haven't done much of anything today except cry or stare blankly at a wall. I'm pulling myself together long enough to put together this post, because no matter how badly I just want to curl up in a ball right now, I need to do something in order to keep the roof over our heads.
