Mysterious AU

finally i have the Black hat and Flug counterparts  Cerin Hatter and Dr Fallen Slully

Cerin Hatter (aka: Spooky Hat): A monster of indeterminate species that was found in Mexico and adopted by a cryptozoologist couple. Throughout his life, he has made it his goal to figure out what exactly he is. Eventually, he gets a job, working for the FBI due to his high intellect and skill on tracking annd finding information. There, he comes across a bunch of old files on the paranormal. Seeing this as a new lead to figuring out the answer to his own existential crisis, he starts working on them, often getting in too deep and biting off more than he can chew. In college, he had a reputation for loving the paranormal, thus earning the name “Spooky Hat.” Just like the original Black Hat, he is very temperamental, blunt, and dark humored. Hes paranoid and although he isnt evil, he wont hesitate to kill a man. 

Dr Fallen Slully: also a monster of indeterminate species that landed a job in the FBI working as an investigator and medical doctor. Not much is known about his past other than his high anxiety as a child, outstanding performance in school, skill as a pilot, and that he was the soul survivor of a horrid plane crash. After a few years of working for the FBI, he was paired up with Cerin Hatter to keep an eye on his paranormal studies. however, not long after they started working with it, Cerin discovered that Fallen was also a monster that really had no idea what he was. Soon, Fallen joined Cerin in the hunt for finding out their true origins. Fallen is pretty skilled in shape-shifting, just like Cerin. Even in his human form, his bag still covers his face, even if it doesnt appear like it is. If this bag is removed, he will become homicidal, sadistic and ravenous. However, if his bag is ever suddenly removed, he can just manage to keep sane just long enough to find something else to cover his head. With his head covered, he is sarcastic, slow to trust, but mostly good natured. he still has lots of anxiety

So I’d say;

Slug doesn’t know where he stands. He has doubts about the heroic path he’s taking.

Yes, he is a genuinely nice person deep down but that doesn’t mean he needs to go around and help every single person out there. He had met a lot of shitty people in his life that were real assholes to him, making him wonder every time he’s about to be a ‘hero’ and save a stranger; Is this stranger really just an innocent civilian? For all he knows, the person might be some rapist or an abuser. That they deserved this fate.

No, he doesn’t actually kill them. But he’s a smart man and knows better than to blindly help strangers.

Of course the public couldn’t hear this, especially from someone who was supposed to protect them. To make matters worse, no one in the manor understands him. They don’t see it from his point of view. They didn’t go through what he did. Heck, they aren’t even human. He practically lives with two saints that could easily overlook humanity’s flaws. (One of the main reasons he chooses to be cooped up in the lab)

Then there’s Flug.

They’re rivals. Enemies.

He was bound to find out this dilemma of Slug’s and no doubt would try to put it to use. Subtly, slipping in between conversations, Flug would tell the anti hero how shitty the world is and that nothing was ever black and white. Telling it’s ok to not want to save a random damsel in distress sometimes. To remind him that he isn’t some saint or an all-forgiving deity, but a human.

Slug knows this is a trick but he would be lying if he says he doesn’t find it nice to actually have someone to talk to about it. Someone who finally understands him.

And I’d like to think that Slug has been through some shitty childhood too. The reason he has this whole defensive, self sabotaging-by-being-a-dickhead-to-everyone. But maybe living with WH and Clem has an effect on him, so he is on the path of recovery. And we all know who else had been through some shitty childhood but hasn’t done anything about.

So this where Slug steps in

The more Slug hangs with Flug, he notices this unhealthy habit of seeking validation Flug has. An outcome of the horrible upbringing the villain had gone through. Unlike the anti hero, Flug wasn’t pulled out of the negative environment in time. Thus creating this damaging and long lasting impact in his mindset. Not only does this make Slug relate to the villain even more but he knows how to approach Flug about it.

Helping him heal. Not entirely erasing the scar but maybe cleaning it and bandaging it.

So the idea of Slug being lost but Flug knowing damn well he’s a villain and Flug being trapped by his past and Slug isn’t. And using their opposite traits to help each other. Sure they had their fair share of arguments and debates due to their clashing opinions on most topics but that only means they get to see another perspective on said subject.

This hc is still new and I’m trying to flesh it out but I’m trying to expand on this concept of having this other person who had gone through the same things as you but had some things differently. Everyone has their flaws but since this other person is your opposite, you wouldn’t have the same flaws and perhaps even the opposite. So why not use this fact to help improve one another. Not entirely perfecting or/and changing each other, but helping to be a better person.

So the reply was wayyy too long for me to reply to it in the comments so I decided to make a post. Totally didn’t rewrite this like five times because of how shitty my words sounded like every time I reread it :’D
