have you ever noticed how if you complain about how something could be better in our society, you’re told ā€œwell it’s worse in *insert country with lots of issues*ā€ or ā€œwe’ve come so far in *insert human right* so just be grateful.ā€

Like…? Yeah I’m glad that the government can’t send me to prison for being gay and that I can vote, but the goal isn’t to be just enough better so that we can hold that over another country’s head. The goal is to be the best, and therefore treat people the best.

My rights are not an opinion. My rights are not apart of your bullshit competition so that you feel justified in your pride in your country.

Sorry for the ramble I just wanted to share that.

I'm pretty sure I was more open to other people having different opinions than me as a child than I am now.

I remember being all "people can vote what they want! Voting should be anonymous! People have different opinions!" Then I turned 18 and actually had to understand my country's politics. So now I'm over here like "if you vote for any of the right wing parties you are a selfish asshole and don't deserve to call yourself norwegian <3"

Canada Isn't Perfect, So Stop Pretending It Is.

Yes, I get the desire to beat the US's rising claim to fascism and republican values, but that doesn't mean we need to base our entire image off of them. Our display of leftism and being 'progressive' is so insanely performative it makes me sick. How many times have you seen our government "apologizing", and "acknowledging" instead of actually doing shit to help the people Canada has literally killed. Yet, here we sit, content with "sticking it to american's" while thousands of indigenous women die, tortured, raped, are sex trafficked, etc. Please for the love of god, TALK about these things with your community - teachers, friends, students, neighbours, family, even online like I'm doing right now. - just start with spreading the news, which can lead to organizing, protesting, riots, getting our government to actually DO SOMETHING. If we want to fix our problems we have to first acknowledge them.

Indigenous Matter

No, Canada is not doing jack shit to help indigenous lives that have been ruined and discarded because of us. You're really just taking the government's word and sitting on your ass thinking "oh I live in such a perfect country, we do so much to help our people" WELL GET THE FUCK UP?? Pretty little words aren't helping us. TWO. TWO OF 231 CALLS FOR JUSTICE HAVE BEEN DONE. MORE THAN HALF HAVE NEVER EVEN BEEN STARTED. 11 of 94 calls to action have been done. Half are in progress. If the Canadian government needs motivation, give it to them. Show no respect, they don't give two fucking shits about us and only enjoy stroking the Canadian ego. STOP LOOKING AT THE US AND WAKE THE FUCK UP

Why I'm independent. Both are wrong and right in their own ways and nobody should be afraid to not pick a side. Vote for whatever you believe in <3

This post describes how I feel about politics perfectly

The liberal culture of perpetually walking on eggshells, fearing that whatever you say might offend somebody, or (alternatively) feeling like you are always a victim to everybody's microaggressions is extremely unhealthy.

The conservative culture of perpetually being rude under the guise of "just saying it like it is", completely disregarding that what you say might offend somebody, or entering into conversations always on the defense is extremely unhealthy.

People in both left and right political groups who fit within these behavioral patterns seem to operate off of getting high from feeling righteousness.

These behavioral trends in both groups breed authoritarianism, paranoia, ignorance, aggression, ideological purity, and black and white thinking.

People ask me why I keep going farther and farther left on my political views and it's honestly very simple. Most Republicans see that I'm bi and immediately say I'm going to hell or that I'm a devil worshiper.

I hate how Terfs main argument is that a man could be dressed as a girl is going to hurt them when there is literally nothing stopping a cis man from just walking into a girls bathroom. Like you think a sign with the silhouette of a girl in a skirt is going to stop them? In their mind a skirt is an invitation.

What is Brendan Eich?

Nearly everyone has heard of how Brendan Eich, Mozilla's former CEO, stepped down because of a scandal around his contribution to an organization that sought to ban gay marriage. Conservatives and liberals have been engaging in heated debates on this matter and this post isn't to determine who's right or who's wrong. What itĀ isĀ meant to discover is the phenomenon itself.

The interpretations I've encountered are:

#1: Opposing liberals meant that Eich made a strategically wrong step. Admitting to failure, he decided to step down.

#2: His personal standpoint went against the very mission of Mozilla, which was not creating profit but spreading openness, freedom and such with a diverse community.

These arguments. however, don't directly lead to the actual consequences. The reasons why these are misleading, inaccurate arguments are:

#1: Even though in politics and everyday life we all try to bring our own views to victory, a liberal couldn't oppose Eich. A liberal answer to his donation would have been nothing but total respect. That is because such a reply would be in favor of diversity, although all-inclusive includes the ones, who don't agree even with inclusiveness. There are many forms of liberalism but none of them would scold Eich's contribution to that organization. In summary, he couldn't oppose liberalism in a way that would lead liberalism away.

#2: Brendan Eich made his contribution as an independent individual, back in 2008. Now he spoke against everything that could oppose the gay society. He realized that holding up such views would definitely infringe Mozilla's mission. Still, his altered position promoted diversity. One could say that he is responsible for the collectivity of his actions but he actually faced this past act of his, trying to make it fit to the company's mission. Opposing Eich would actually mean failing this mission because at least toward him they close their imaginary gates and would exclude him.

What I'm trying to articulate is that there cannot be any idealistic reason to support his stepping down. On what grounds do many support it then?

(Before making my thesis, I want to note, once more that I'm not saying Eich was right or wrong when donating to the anti-gay organization, neither the same about his stepping down. Now back to the point...)

What this case tells us is that though people sympathize with liberalism or communitarianism or anything else, most of them don't actually belong to them. Eich's opposition (the kind, which doesn't only have a different view but instead is actively against him/agrees with his resignation) doesn't consist of liberals or any other group of idealists, instead of people, who may sympathize with them but they themselves are essentially different.

Carl Schmitt wrote that the main function of politics is to distinguish between friend and enemy. Schmitt wasn't a liberal--more importantly he wasn't an idealist but a realist.

Eich's opposition makes an enemy out of him. They called on Mozilla users to uninstall their browser and stop using their products. They took up a fight against him with smart methods, ones, which were enough to make the continuation of his being a CEO impossible.Ā

It's not a question whether or not Eich was right but whether or not he is a friend to us. Not a liberal community opposed him but rather a realist one that, at best, only serves a liberal community. They can sympathize with liberals but they can't be them.

The reason why I thought this whole matter important to see is that it's not the age of idealism any more. Of course I can't deal an absolute in regards of this because the political sphere is very mixed and while there are realists in it, we can just as easily name another huge group of idealists. My ultimate point is that this presently emerging trend is, contrary to popular statements, not liberalism, or any other form of idealism but realism instead, where one can't rely on rights or morals, only on the inclinations of those, possessing power.

love when tumblr leftists are so desperate to lick autocrat’s boots that they just. outright lie. saw someone today claiming that homosexuality was never illegal in either the USSR or the DDR (that statement is demonstrably false, if you didn’t know)

it makes my job as an evil liberal painting socialists as insane freedom-hating authoritarians so simple. getting my CIA paycheck will be easy this month :)

I disagree. liberalism has been, on the whole, a positive force.

Let’s look at the achievements of liberals:

- ended the transatlantic slave trade

- drastically reduced the power of the British monarch and Lords in favour of a democratic parliamentary system

- the French Revolution

- spread ideas of liberty and democracy to all of Europe, eventually leading to the decline and fall of the European autocracies

- the Revolutions of 1848

- the creation of Italy and Germany (which I will admit was probably an L in the long run)

- ended slavery in America (yes, the Republicans of Lincoln’s time were liberals)

- beat the Kaiser

- overthrew the Tsar and ended Russian feudalism (yes, that was the liberals. The Soviets only overthrew them later after the Republic was already established)

- liberated Ireland (while the later IRA were socialists, Michael Collins’ IRA was liberal and republican)

- beat the Nazis (the Soviets could not have won without American aid)

- decolonization (it was mostly American pressure that forced the French and British to decolonize, not Soviet.)

- liberated Eastern Europe from the USSR

- liberal democracies were the first states to decriminalize homosexuality and legalize gay marriage

And more that I don’t have time to list here.

I reiterate. No state is perfect. But America’s rivals are cartoonishly evil. The Chinese are committing a genocide as we speak. The Russians are invading a sovereign republic for no other reason than imperial expansion. The United States is practically a saint in comparison.

as trans activists we have GOT to get more comfortable with embracing the idea that we are a threat to the usamerican status quo. no more of this "we're the real america lovers, we make america great" shit. usamerica isn't and should not be made great, because it is a racist imperialist patriarchal state that has caused huge amounts of death and devastation worldwide. all our struggles are interconnected.

we should not be licking the ideological boots of a political system that gives zero shits about any of us, we should be dismantling it and replacing it with something that does. if trans existence is a threat to this country, then GOOD. I'm fucking proud of that. and you should be too.

This is going to be a Christian based post so if you're not interested in reading a leftist opinion based on Christian beliefs, I invite you to just keep scrolling

I don't know how a human person can look in the eye of an oppressed person and then act in a way that continues to oppress them. The main example I'm thinking about is when the local government voted against a bill that would allow control of assault rifles WHILE SURVIVORS OF THE PARKLAND SHOOTING (literal children no less) WERE IN THE ROOM WATCHING THEM. Furthermore, an incredibly high percentage of people in power claim to be Christians, but lack even the most basic forms of empathy, one of the most fundamental parts of Christianity (and pretty much every other religion / belief system / moral compass??). How can you say you love Jesus, whose only interactions with rich people involved him telling them to sell all they had and give to the poor (the only exceptions being with those who crucified him), and then vote, lobby or otherwise advocate for policies that disenfranchise the poor?

The Acts 2 church is the epitome of the church as far as every Christian I know says, and Acts 2 says: "And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need." James 5 starts with a warning to rich people that their wealth is worthless and they will be condemned for the evils they commit just for being rich (including not paying their workers fairly) beginning with "Come now, you rich, weep and howl for the miseries that are coming upon you" and then continues with an encouragement for poor people to not give up on the faith because their endurance will be rewarded. How can you read these passages and think that being rich is a good thing actually?

In my limited research for this short post I found multiple articles about how being rich is inherently good, one of which was literally titled "Jesus loves rich people." Like okay, technically Jesus does love everyone period, but to excuse your exorbitant wealth that you absolutely don't need while billions of people are barely surviving so that you can be Comfortable+ (which Jesus himself and various other apostles and significant figures condemn explicitly) based on that technicality? Inexcusable.

While class warfare is one of the greatest threats we face across the board, other forms of systematic oppression (which are rooted therein) are still prevalent and need to be fought. To bring a couple things into perspective, Jesus was a brown Palestinian Jew whose mother was married to a man that was not his father (who were both teenagers) who all "illegally" sought asylum in Egypt while fleeing from a government that was trying to kill them. And that just scratches the surface. Furthermore, Jesus himself said "Then he [the Father] will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.' Then they also will answer, saying, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?' Then he will answer them, saying, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.' And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."

You brood of vipers. You say you love Jesus and yet you hoard wealth and disenfranchise the vulnerable. I haven't even touched on many other problems but they're evident in the Bible if you pay attention at all. Let go of what you've been taught all your life and embrace the teaching of the one who is infinitely wise and drank the cup of the wrath of God so you could be free. He said to love your neighbor, so why do you hate everyone but yourself?

To those who profit off of right wing radicalization:

This is a message for big social media companies whose algorithms boost radical content and lead people down conspiracy theory rabbit holes, for radical right wing news networks like OAN and NewsMax, for conspiracy theory promoters who know that what they’re saying isn’t true but promote it anyway because it makes them money, for Jim Watkins and whoever is behind Q, for all of the conservative congressmen and women like Josh Hawley and Ted Cruz who voted not to certify the election results. And for Donald J. Trump. How dare you? How dare you prey on people who are confused and scared and searching for anything that provides them with answers in this time of uncertainty. You have knowingly radicalized people, torn them apart from their families, their friends, their communities. You have tricked these people into believing that the world is against them. People are naturally afraid of what they cannot control. They will instinctively search for answers that make them feel like this has happened for a reason. That there is something that can be done to make all of our problems go away. You know this. And instead of doing your part to ensure that people have the right information and know who to look to in this time of need, you chose to trade people’s lives and well-being for your own monetary gain. A large group of the population lived most of their lives without the internet. They are not used to being able to access such a large quantity of information. And they are certainly not used to a lot of it being untrue. These people grew up where their only sources of information were local and national news and the library. They grew up in a world where there wasn’t much monetary benefit to misinformation. Where they could, for the most part, trust that the information they were being told was true. They were never taught how to check the validity of online sources, how to know if what they’re being told is true. As a result, they are especially vulnerable to fear mongering, conspiracy theories, and ultimately, radicalization. You knew that, and you exploited them. My grandparents have always been conservative, but they were never conspiracy theorists. They always had their heads on straight. They may have disagreed with democrats and other people on the left, but they weren’t evil. There might have been differences between them and other branches of Christianity, but that didn’t mean they were Godless. They may not have liked certain government interventions, but that didn’t mean they were trying to prosecute Christians. In the past couple of years, and especially since the start of Covid, all of that has changed. My grandmother is always talking about how terrible the state of human trafficking in this country is. She’s always going on about how all of these social distancing regulations are just trying to make Christianity illegal. She said that Joe Biden is awful and not a real Christian because he’s Catholic. She thinks the CDC, a non-partisan organization, is corrupt. (Luckily she still got the vaccine.) She even told me that they’re making it legal in some places to murder babies who are already born. My grandfather, while more subtle about his beliefs around me, will still mutter things to my grandmother when smear campaign ads come on, and will nod along when my grandmother repeats bunk facts and statistics about antifa and abortion. (This is part 1. I’m posting part 2 right away.)
