Where Every Scroll is a New Adventure
Charlie is such a great contrast to Benoit Blanc, because while Blanc is all about elaborate whodunnits and smooth talkin Charlie is a feral ex gambler who compulsively shouts bullshit and has no cool whatsoever
i mean how else would he deal with Benoit's shenanigans?
I also love how we all just immediately went they're married.
Not they're boyfriend's, just got together or engaged, it was just clear that they have been married for a long time
the expectation of heterosexuality in films is so crazy-like watching glass onion and my dad just sighs and says ' god why is it only gay men that have style...' and i legitimately went 'what about Benoit Blanc?' and he looked at me with such concern

I hope Rian Johnson knows how much I needed this
Obsessed with Miles Bron in Glass Onion choosing a murder mystery game as the entertainment for his private weekend getaway with his closest friends. An activity to provide structure to what would otherwise be 3 days lazing about on a Greek isle with his “friends.” A game that requires an intensive weekend of solo investigation and observation and puzzle-solving…which Miles himself will not have to participate in.
Miles has assigned his “friends” homework for their weekend holiday. And their assigned task is to labor and compete to impress him by solving a mystery. It’s no coincidence that the mystery game compels his friends to work separately. He has isolated his friends so that he can remain their individual focus. Note that Miles hasn’t bothered to come up with an actual prize for the winner…because to his mind, the ultimate prize is Miles’s respect. He’s flummoxed and insulted when Benoit Blanc requests a physical reward—and something as comparably worthless as an iPad.
So of course Miles’s friends are relieved when Benoit Blanc blows up the game. Because it means the pressure to perform is off. The pressure to provide the entertainment for Miles, because make no mistake, they’ve been invited to the island to entertain Miles and keep him happy. Honestly, ever since they took his side in the trial, that invitation has become a summons. Can you imagine any of them declining his invitation? It’s a luxury vacation, sure…but it’s also a summons to perform a jester’s dance before King Miles, who can easily destroy them if they fail to show their gratitude/fealty.
Miles’s response to the game ending early is to ask, horrified, “What am I supposed to do now? Play Yahtzee all weekend?” Heaven forbid he enjoy spending unstructured time with his closest friends in the lap of luxury! But to a narcissist like Miles Bron, any moment when the attention isn’t on him must be Hell. And that’s why his murder mystery game was the perfect plan to make his friends compete for his approval, while he sat back and enjoyed the show.
I just need to say that the scene where they play amoung us in glass onion was actually really cool because blanc gets caught and immediately gets ejected and he says that 'so angie caught me and now the games just over' Which sets up for later when he catches Miles but it's not over, everyone knows what he did and there's nothing they can do about it.
Unpopular opinion: Being intelligent isn’t an excuse for being unkind.
I think what I’m enjoying most about Glass Onion discourse is that hugh grant is hugh grant. Like, benoit is played by daniel craig we all acknowledge this but I immensely enjoy that his husband is hugh grant. no fancy detective name, no alias, that’s just hugh grant with a sourdough starter
glass onion had lgbt rep in the way that i prefer: a character is shown to be gay in a subtle yet unmistakeably domestic way, and then nothing romantic happens and we go solve a murder with the power of friendship and violence
Are you implyin to me that a shramp managed to frah this rice? It's preposterous! But it intrigues meh so.
I also think that all the "um okay knives out & glass onion were good. Wrap it up now" posts are so funny. You're tripping if you think there's not going to be at least five Benoit Blanc films lol
I haven’t seen anyone point out that the Mona Lisa is also a metaphor for the glass onion. Like the majority of people look at the Mona Lisa and think she’s an enigma, they wonder what she’s thinking. They wonder who she was, what she was thinking. They talk about the layers and the complexities of this woman’s smile when in reality she isn’t a mystery at all.
The Mona Lisa was a commission from a wealthy silk merchant who wanted to celebrate the birth of his second son by having a portrait of his wife be painted by that up and coming artist. Like we know exactly who she was, why she’s smiling, we know who she is. But despite this the air of mystery surrounding the Mona Lisa continues because people love her perceived mystery. They love imagining that there are more layers to her than there really was. And it fits so beautifully.
Benoit Blanc accent being the new "tell me will" meme.
*benoit blanc voice* now that is just amazing, mister kira, but you seem to be a lot less bright then i musta thought... we're only broadcasting this program to the kanto region of japan.
Yes
everyone is talking about Blanc calling Marta after Glass Onion, but can we imagine him coming home and telling Philip everything.
like
"darling, i have just experienced the dumbest case ever. good lord, it was worse then playing clue. goddamn pineapple..."
Thank you Rian but also wdym Blanc can’t afford his apartment? He’s a famous detective????
I was just thinking about how Miles throws these massive fancy holidays where he shows off a bunch of wanky rich shit like renting the Mona Lisa or piloting a hydrofoil, and it's all people who are not actually friends but are faking it to make it, whereas when we first see Benoit Blanc he's just... playing Among Us from his bathtub with his friends. It's a much cozier, more genuine vibe than the elaborate show put on by the Disruptors--
Oh goddammit Among Us isn't just foreshadowing because it's a murder mystery in an enclosed location. It's also got an imposter running around. God fucking dammit
Benoit Blanc taking his growing army of young women out to dinner:
I think every media and every fandom needs a silly queer detective like Benoit Blanc
I also think that all the "um okay knives out & glass onion were good. Wrap it up now" posts are so funny. You're tripping if you think there's not going to be at least five Benoit Blanc films lol
I love both Knives Out and Glass Onion and the thematic parallels throughout the stories. I also think it's important to learn that Marta would have never won getting angry and throwing things, and Helen would have never won with kindness alone however not only did they get their happy ending by "playing the game" their own ways, there were places where Marta needed petty revenge and Helen needed kindness (ex: Marta lying to Ransom about Fran not surviving, Helens kindness to Wiskey.) I just think it's important to learn there are times and places for BOTH unconditional kindness and fighting back.
