it's good to have a comfort zone artwise, something that feels most true and resonating for you, an easy-to-access source of inspiration. i always thought that expanding skills further should basically mean finding comfort and resonance in a broader sense. doing studies should feel good because you're learning to understand something, and it leaves some part of itself in you; you will eventually resonate with everything you grow to understand. and that's why skill growth should feel rewarding

weird rules, social expectations and Being A Woman

you know, something that really pisses me off about Society (tm) is how normativity is just so mindlessly, happily rewarded, even by the most tolerant of people. specifically (but not exclusively) regarding to gender expression.

i am a woman. i was born a woman, i live as a woman, i am perceived as a woman, and i even identify as a woman. ill admit i also have some gender fuckery going on in here, but my internal identity is, frankly, nobodys business; im happy to be assumed a woman, because i honestly dont care how others perceive me in this regard. but. this doesnt mean that i am happy to do the whole nonsense routine that is required to be considered a Real Woman by almost everyone in this god darn planet. i dont do makeup, i dont like to style my hair, i mostly stopped shaving, and you couldnt pay me to care about clothes.

my mother is always telling me about how pretty i am. growing up, i heard it all the time. you have such beautiful curls, if i had hair like yours i would let it grow a lot longer (thanks, i like it shorter tho). im so jealous of your eyes, they are so blue! (haha yeah, i was born with them). i bet this dress would look so pretty on you, why do you never wear skirts? (they just make me uncomfortable, i like my own clothes anyways). if you wore makeup more often you would look so much more beautiful (i like how my face looks, thanks). you should shave your legs, they look bad like that (you never tell [brother] to shave his legs).

it is infuriating. i hate it so, so much. i am a woman, not a doll to play dress up with. and if i have to pretend to be a human, the least that society could do is to just let me exist in peace! it drives me crazy that all this is even expected. worst part, it is fucking Everywhere.

this christmas one of my cousins got me a new pencil case. it is pink and green, and has some cats and snakes and bugs and moons drawn on it. it is beautiful, and although i wasnt too thrilled about the color, i figured it was cool so i began using it. one of my friends saw me take it out during class, said oooo [name], thats so pretty! and gave me a Look. i dont know how to explain it without sounding crazy, but i swear it was like she was saying, so now you like Woman Stuff! you know what Look im talking about, right? when you finally cave in and do the feminine thing, and its like everyone is so happy that youre finally filling your expected role in life. it is weird as hell. i dont like it.

but like, this is my friend, who supports me being aroace and autistic and IS BISEXUAL HERSELF! something something, leftism leaving peoples bodies when a gender non-conforming person does something that is stereotypically associated with their gender. idk, its a bit like dog training when you think about it for a second. in animal training (and i mean proper animal training, not beating your dog until it stops barking), good behavior should be rewarded, while bad behavior is supposed to be ignored so the animal learns to only do the good behavior. you do the feminine thing, and you get smiles and compliments; you stop doing it, then suddenly gender presentation doesnt matter. and this... training behavior is, of course, mostly unconscious, with its perpetrators unaware that theyre even doing it. if i asked my friend what she meant by that, she would say that she didnt mean anything, she just liked the case. if i asked my mother why do i have to shave while my brother doesnt, she would say that its just how things are.

its just how things are. its how it always has been. its how it always will be. so just shut up, smile, and pretend it isnt happening. pretend youre not being trained like a dog to salivate at the sound of a bell. it doesnt matter, it isnt happening, so why bother thinking about it? dont think about it. stop thinking about it.

It's so wild thinkin about how I was so caught up in the idea of 'finding my style' as a kid. I just drew the same things over and over hoping eventually it would look exactly how I wanted and I'd finally have my style, then I could draw the things I really wanted to. Everything you draw is in your style. Style isn't a thing that you find that stays static forever, it's always evolving as you improve and figure out how you like to draw things. It finds you, and it'll keep finding you as long as you keep drawing

anyway everyone should draw whatever they want forever and ever until the sun explodes <3

Brb, sobbing uncontrollably over fictional hedgehogs with (C)PTSD

For those complaining that the Shadow Dark Beginnings episodes are too short, I urge you to look at some of these scenes frame by frame (pauze the video and use , and . to go back and forth per frame). The attention to detail is immaculate and there's no way they would've been able to achieve this high quality if the episodes were like 20 minutes long. Remember that it's still all free promotional videos we're getting here.

Taking this two/three second clip here to explain my point. First the indicial pose, Shadow's attack in a flash of light, camera following it, a pauze frame, then the impact shot with flashing lights, camera shaking, bight light fading to show the broken arm with the chain, even the lights at where the arm was separated flashing on and off each frame, then BAM Shadow's shoe covering up most of the view, only to be wayy in the back one frame later to give a real sense of speed, the camera needing to catch up to him, one more flash as Shadow slides into place, giving the feeling of slow-motion which also puts more emphasis on how fast he's moving, not to mention to give the viewer a tiny moment to take in the composition of it all. The way it's angled leads the eye from the robot to Shadow, the size difference between the two and hhh the chain so perfectly put in place, slightly tilted towards the camera for an extra sense of depth. It all seems so simple, but there's so much thought and effort put behind this and it's absolutely gorgeous. Putting the frames together below the cut

Ok so my knowledge of him is limited I just know he's the commander and that he hates Shadow and blames him for what happened to Maria and his family.

I think his name is Abraham Tower that's what I could find on him anyways.

(Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong I just wanna share my thoughts)

OK so the scene started with him running away in anger though let's remember anger is usually a secondary emotion meaning he could be reacting out of fear or frustration.

Best bet he confronted shadow about what he really is since he did call shadow a freak before running off and once he maybe got confirmation on it , it may have given him more of a reason to hate him and idk maybe he said something to shadow before running off idk

Since we do see shadow staring at the larva either the boy said something to him or maybe he's communicating with it I know he can do that. (I think XD)

Also personally think he's also jealous of Shadow and all the attention Maria give him since Maria is constantly reassureing him that he's good and not heartless

Well lookie here seems he must have stop in his tracks once he realized Maria is still with shadow

I feel like he's feeling left out since I know he dose see maria as a big sister and they probably knew each other much longer then Shadow

He may even feel like he's being replaced by him which could explain why he dosent like him

But once Shadow was around Maria may have unintentionally left him out seeing that he dosent constantly need her the way Shadow might for emotional support.

Which could lead to why he could be jealous of Shadow

When Maria says the line that Shadow really does care about her and then Abe looks away when she says everyone

Maybe Shadow dosent like him either

I wonder if he would say things to shadow to get under his skin maybe he wants a reaction from shadow to show maria he's the monster he think he is

i bet he dose, who knows maybe he told shadow how come he hasn't cured Maria yet if that's what he's ment to do I can see a jealous lil bro saying something like that
