I haven't seen it get mentioned on Tumblr yet but Samsung has just gotten caught in a hilarious scam: they apparently advertised how their latest phones can take great picture of the moon, compared to other phones!
But it turns out they aren't using machine-learning to clear up blurry pictures, they're using machine-learning to detect when you're taking a picture of the moon, and then they swap in a saved PNG file of the moon.
A reddit user figured this out by taking a photo of the moon from Wikipedia, blurring it in photoshop, then trying to photograph it from across the room with all the lights turned out.
Their Samsung phone somehow managed to "clear up" the blurriness and recover details that weren't there in the first place. Because it's just cheating.

I had heard about porn bots on Tumblr, but I had gone for months of regular use of this site without seeing any. But these past few days, I have been getting flooded by follows from them. Are there any tools that can automatically block all users who’s names end in a 3-digit number?
this is what having sex with sonic the hedgehog sounds like btw
The fake post game really elevated when people started putting fake dividers between them, but it kinda sucks that they never put placeholder text up top to get rid of the double pfp/username

Tumblr, I come to you as a woman on the verge of fulfilling her destiny. Thanks to a viral poll by @relientk, the newest meme on Tumblr is vanilla extract, specifically the act of using too much of it. Pure vanilla extract is, of course, expensive and also strong in small amounts. Who among us has that much vanilla extract on hand and is foolish enough to attempt this?
For personal reasons, I have a lot of vanilla extract in my apartment. It was here before the meme, and it will be here after. I had all the ingredients for the horrible poll cake except for milk, so I went out and bought some milk. It is three in the morning and very cold outside. Why am I doing this now instead of waiting for the poll to finish? Two reasons: the first being how fickle the internet in burning through memes, and the second being that five days gives my better judgement enough time to convince me not to do this.
This is actually really smart, though. Human expressions are made through lots of relatively subtle motions of our malleable faces, which could be impractical for a robot. Very near that same depth of expression could be achieved with as little as like two motors in each of those triangular ears.
Of course, Wheatley is already incredibly expressive without those ears, but the Valve animators achieved that feat by keeping Wheatley in motion. If you looked at a static image of Wheatley, it might be a lot harder to figure out his emotions. Those ears would solve that.
on the furry au (yknow, the au where everyone is furries, which every piece of media has) chell is a regular furry, you see glados and wheatley never looked human in the first place, so my take is that they look exactly the same except they have triangular pieces of metal attached on top of their heads which look like animal ears for no sensible reason
We’ve been working on this for the past 7 months, and it’s finally complete
