raiden was annoying to me in mgs2 bc he is like subversion of player's expectation set by snake: bitching about difficulties from the very start, initially refusing to do stuff he wasn't trained to (deactivate bombs), has emotional conversations with his gf about their relationship etc. none of which is bad tbh but it is the opposite of what i expected after mgs1. but that's why he's a fun protagonist, teasing the player a bit. i am glad he's still annoying in rising (like bothering kevin with unsolicited marriage talk, the courtney codec calls if you don't save etc) and lowkey evokes cringe reaction from the voice he definitely does on purpose, the whole the "i get off to shredding dudes" ripper thing. they really integrated devs trying to make him more appealing to audience into his character development. but tbh to me, mgrr raiden is more cringe than mgs2 raiden (and that's a big part why rising is fun). in mgs4 there are fun moments which are definitely meta jokes (like the timing of the raiden in hospital scene, i am sure it was set up for player to expect seeing snake, or the voice) but it's serious so there's less room for fun. it's a shame tho that the devs seem to shy away from the mgs2 raiden, should've embraced him more and admit that players who hate on him just don't get it or aren't into it, he already was a well designed character.

and rosemary hate is wild, ofc it's bad to violate people's trust and their relationship is edgy and creepy but by mgs standards it's pretty wholesome and full of hope (except for raiden hitting her). idk what do they mean by ruining raiden's life, he literally brags about how much he loves his family in rising

i will say tho adding onto the post i reblogged before last like. raiden was also generally not well received on the launch of 2 for like multiple reasons but i imagine being annoying was one of them and i think its really only because of rising a good portion of people like him. yknow after they made him a cool robot with that deeper voice and other shit i havent played rising. rose still gets treated infinitely worst by fans tho for shit she didnt do

i guess drawing this guy the other day paid off bc this is the best i have managed to make to date. didn't actually take me 25 minutes, i was doing it for ~20 extra minutes bc i liked how it was going so far and wanted to finish. might return to it later and fix it a bit more.

i am satisfied with the 5 minute guy and not satisfied with the 5 minute lady at all, as well as the 10 minute lady except for hair which is my most decent attempt at conveying long hair structure so far.

i remember playing mgs right after the "awkward phase" (which was a mullet in my case) of growing out hair and thinking "damn, almost everybody in mgs has a mullet, i could rock an epic hairstyle like that this entire time?" and then it turned out that actually no i couldn't, gottem lmao

either that or huge haircut choice and hair styling skill issue on my side (entirely possible)

i should do a challenge "draw every time you hear an explosion or anti air defense sounds" while i'm here, lol. wanted to stay at a friend's place overnight but returned home before curfew to do line of action (bc i would have just chatted with him the whole time otherwise), an hour later there was an explosion not far from him. could've witness the action from the front row if i stayed, but parents would know where i am and would worry and it's nothing i haven't seen before anyway, so no regrets. i write stuff like "lol" or "action" but just to be clear - it is not fun and people get hurt and die and lose their possessions such as home, don't be a war victim if you can and definitely don't go and be an occupant in foreign country, you are not welcome and no possible repercussions for draft evasion or defecting are a valid reason to do that.

anyway, noticed that i gave the guy few extra ribs only on shading stage when there were 4 minutes left, decided to not fix it. both proportions and shadings are a bit off today, i should pay more attention next time, but it seems the faces are improving. i try to make sure i draw the face during figure drawing if there's enough time. the last pic is faces only study i did yesterday after figure drawing - most of them are very bad but i liked 3 of them.

i will try to ask my friend to pose for me. tried that with another friend a while ago and the results are nothing to share; i hope now my skill is good enough.

i hate drawing that guy. i got 25 minutes for him today and accidentally reset the timer, so i had even more time but still didn't manage to draw him well and started shading after the timer ran out. his photos are always beautiful, it's frustrating to be unable to convey it in the sketch. and this is just some random person, idk how frustrated i will be if i try to draw a character or person i care about, lol - should do it anyway some day tho.

i wanted to do a 1.5 hour class before work, but due to some distractions and resetting the timer i had no time for the last sketch. not really satisfied and wanted to rage quit, took pauses during the last one even. i thought my little public practice diary was too negative due to me bitching so much despite having fun and was going to complain less, but not today it seems :')

idk when i will next have time to do 2 exercises in the same day, but when i do i want to draw some faces, big and small.

frustrating as it was, i am still definitely glad i keep up exercising daily. will see how long i can last

30 minutes line of action. i think i improved a lot shapes-wise, even 1 minute ones often look coherent to me.

idk what i did to achieve it, it just became like this few days ago. well, i hope it isn't just as easily reversible, haha
