daredevil born again s1 is done!

(spoilers)

-so… all of s1 was just a prologue for s2? we’re just. not gonna tie up any of the storyline like at all? coolcoolcoolcool no that’s totally fine! (i’m gonna cry)

-karen and matt are so dear to me idc. i love them.

-frank why tf did you do that like be so fr. karen would not be pleased

-whyyyy can heather not understand how horrible fisk is. she’s supposed to be smart! it feels like it’s just to spite matt at this point i mean come onnn.

-i was looking forward to the bb and gallo team up but now that’s never gonna happen LMAO

crazy how this was the whole show and nothing bad happened after!

DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN

S01 E01 : Heaven's Half Hour | dir. Justin Benson & Aaron Moorhead

DDBA SPOILERS!!! (episodes 1-2)

okay i have thoughts and none of them are in order and some aren’t very developed, but here they are so far:

-to start off positive, i like how matt’s blindness is being portrayed, maybe more than in the original. it shows how he is in fact visually impaired and that when he focuses on other things specifically he is affected by his blindness. (for example: episode 2 when he’s focusing on footsteps and almost gets hit by a cab)

-right off the bat, i knew we weren’t gonna get what we had in the original series. the opening shots and dialogue were too bright and clinical in my opinion, as is pretty common with disney.

-while the actors did an amazing job imo, the way it’s being filmed just lacks the grit and depth of the original series.

-that being said; matt crying on the roof did have me crying too, charlie cox is such an incredibly talented actor and even despite the flaws that opening scene had, he managed to pull me in and get me to care.

-there are moments and choices being made that i do like, and i’m sure i’ll enjoy the show even with the disappointing parts

-matt being framed in red light at the end of the first episode and the fight at the end of episode two that resulted with his daredevil yell were the most dynamic and classically daredevil moments and they give me hope

-also i was almost unable to pay attention to a single second of it because of how absolutely soulcrushingly and devastatingly attractive matt murdock is. it’s actually ridiculous.

*TLDR: i found the first two episodes of born again to be a bit disappointing and not living up to the standards that we have come to know and love from daredevil. that being said; through the amazing acting from charlie cox and the maintaining of matt murdock’s character, as well as some promising new characters and arcs, i’m sure it still will be an enjoyable watch.

i still think going with the anti vigilante viewpoint in a post avengers endgame new york is fucking insane. do you enjoy getting mugged??? do you enjoy getting killed by aliens?? do you enjoy getting BLIPPED?? like. idk

The Matt and Karen vs Vanessa and Fisk of it all

Not me not shutting up as usual.

It's pretty evident that Karen and Matt vs Fisk and Vanessa are meant to be seen as units when it comes to parallels and foils.

This gets more in line with Karedevil because thematically and writing wise is what makes more sense. If that bothers you, please don't read it.

Vanessa and Fisk do love each other but they love nothing else. Their love makes them even worse people, it makes them more selfish, more brutal, more unrelenting.

Vanessa kills Adam (that, like Frank is right in the middle of the shot) because she knows Fisk won't do it so she will. For him. For them.

Theorically, we were also meant to see the flip side of that and I believe (again nin shipper, I'm just being objective here) that Karen and Matt are there representation of that.

In just a few minutes Karen got to show Matt that, like Foggy, she sees all of him (and it was left implied that like Foggy she loves all of him) but the main difference here is that she pushes Matt to be better, she forgives him his transgressions and loves him in spite of them.

But Karen is one of the reasons Matt went through one of his biggest character arcs (the one of letting people in). She made him see he wasn't alone, that he he has her, and I think she probably regrets having left.

But I do think Vanessa and Fisk are meant to show the dark side of love while Matt and Karen are the representation of the light, healthy side of that love. Potentially, even though Karen obviously has feelings for Frank.

Both foil each other, contrast each other and parallel each other. I believe this is meant to establish them as THE couples of the story, but for different reasons.

I think is disingenuous to believe that they'd get Matt and Karen together just due to the comics. There's enough textual and visual cues on both the Netflix and Disney parts of this that lead me see that as possibility.
