everytime he appears as a bg character or even has a speaking part - I'm definitely pointing at the screen with excitement.

(aka i bingewatched too many TTTE seasons and episodes and Edward has stood out each time, the only episode I won't watch with him is 'steady eddie' ITS THE CRAZY EYES OF SEASON 12 I HATE THEM-)

I think my favorite scene in Hero of the Rails - the UK dub to be specific - is when Thomas first finds Hiro.

Michael Angelis takes this very soft tone as he talks about the old engine, almost like the narrator can’t believe what Thomas has found either.  And since he’s speaking so softly, you almost forget that he’s there, and it lets the viewer take Hiro in for the wonder he is.

And I think something else that helps set the scene is that Hiro is - if I remember correctly - the first scrap engine we’ve seen since season five. For a lot of the kids watching when the movie first came out, this was the first time they had ever seen a Thomas character who isn’t in pristine running condition. And even for the ones who have seen Stepney, Oliver, or Trevor, Hiro is in way worse condition than any of them. They just needed some cleaning up. Hiro couldn’t even move under his own power at this point.

There’s also something to be said about Thomas himself here. He just finished running out of control and is currently lost in the woods when he finds Hiro. Unlike Edward, or Douglas, or Rusty, he’s scared when he sees this old, rusted, broken down engine. He doesn’t know whether to run, call for help, or smile back at the old engine. But Hiro is quiet, gentle, and even offers to tell his story to Thomas, and the little engine warms up to him quickly afterwards. It’s nice.

as much as i love the idea/headcanon of manfred being an absolute disappointment of a father to both franziska and miles (mainly miles), another idea i love but barely see is von karma being a good father to them all throughout their childhood. the 'perfect' father, even. what if he had high expectations of their grades, but overall was seemingly perfect father to miles and franziska. supporting their interests, praising high marks, showing affection to them, etc.

with miles specifically, what if he helped him through his DL-6 nightmares? showed genuine pride in miles for becoming a prosecutor?

Why is there such a huge emphasis on Edward's 'old age' amongst fans and sometimes in the series itself, but more importantly, fan depictions of him as this decrepit old man. He's at most 17 years older than James. Look at this guy's face, he's like, the face of eternal youthful beauty. He looks like a wry and mischievous fae folk charming you away into a forest where you will fucking never be seen again. GOODBYE.

And don't get me wrong, I like describing/thinking of him as older, it gives his struggles and his dedication more merit and weight, but he's not anyone's peepaw by any means. People act like this poor guy was made in 1806 as opposed to earliest 1896.

Maybe at the time, when he was holed up in the sheds, he was 'older'. Marginally. Like how you look at your Samsung S10 and frown because it's not the S21 ultra. I wouldn't call that a grandpa, would you?

Anyway that's my two cents for what it's worth. If anything.

you read stuff on wattpad for shit and giggles where most of the fics there are reader-inserted ones written in 1st person pov where y/n is a barely legal white girl with blonde hair and blue “orbs” who’s so smol and fragile that she’s dependent entirely on this morally questionable guy who’s killing people for a living but for some reason happens to have a soft spot for her.

you read real actual literature on archive of our own where it’s two middle aged men, who are each other’s sworn enemies, with tragic past, trauma and strong homoerotic tension. and while they’ve made each other bleed, killed each other’s friends and loved ones out of jealousy / possessiveness, lied and betrayed and manipulated, the rawness, depth, complexity and slow burn will keep you up all night, haunt you during your day and possibly change your life forever. and also the sex isn’t just smut. the sex is poetry that puts Shakespeare to shame
