Celebes warty pig or Sulawesi pig

Although a number of subspecies have been recognized, they were disregard after further studies. Today, the Celebes Warty Pig is regarded as a monotypic taxon. This pig is the only species that has been domesticated apart from the Wild Boar. The fact that is being semi-domesticated may have change its appearance.

It is almost impossible to find a complete photograph of the Javan Rhinoceros. Doing this illustration was very challenging but also I had to be more creative.

Indonesian Javan Rhinoceros

The second species from the Rhinocerontidae genus is the elusive and rarest big mammal, the Javan Rhinoceros. There are about 60 individuals in the world, making this rhino the most endangered big mammal in the world.

The surprising thing is that it wasn't the case 200 years ago. It was the most common rhinoceros in the world and could be found from India to Indonesia (Nepal, Burma, Malaysia, Cambodia, Vietnam, etc). Sport hunting, poaching, and environmental deterioration put him on the brink of extinction today.

It was often confused with the Indian Rhino. The biggest difference will be its size, which the Javan Rhinoceros is considerably smaller, its armor is less marked, and the triangle formed at the back of the neck is less notorious in the Indian Rhino.

Rothschild's Giraffe This animal classification is a little bit tricky. Some consider it a subspecies while others consider it an ecotype of the Nubian Giraffe. An ecotype is a species that develops physical differences due to its surroundings. However, genetically is the same species. The term is a little ambiguous because I think describes in many cases, a subspecies or the beginning of one. Rothschild's Giraffe is also known as the Baringo Giraffe or the Ugandan Giraffe. It is known to be one of the largest subspecies. Also, its sight, smell and hearing is well developed and its body is specially built for speed. However, the easiest way to differentiate this giraffe from the other subspecies is that it has five ossicones. Yes, five! (Ossicones are the name for the horns of the giraffes). The normal two that all giraffes have, one in the middle of the head and one behind each ear. Incredible. Is critically endangered despite being one of the best-evolved giraffes. That just can mean that is not the environment the one that is putting in danger the survival of this animal but us. Nature takes over the weakest, we humans, take over the strongest. Dwarf Giraffes? Well yeah. I just discovered that these subspecies have Dwarf Giraffes. They are about 3 meters high, which is close to two meters less than the normal size of these animals. Babyrousa babyrussa

The skull of the Babirussa along with the important teeth of the lower jaw in order to be compare with its relative found by Clement Van Burden, also in the Jungles of Vietnam. The Sus Cofra Satanae or Satanic Boar as Clement decided to named after studied its destructive behavior.

Whales are divided into three families. This is the second and biggest: the Balaenopteridae, which contains the biggest animal that ever inhabits the earth. However, we will start with its smallest member but also the fastest: the Mink Whale. This is the most common whale and is probably due to its not being commonly hunted by humans. Its size is too small (about 10m) and does not have enough oil yield, so hunting it is not worth it. Nonetheless, the hunting of this whale has increased.

Its name is confusing because it was first confused and classified wrongly. Its name is derived from the Norwegians who usually refer to any type of small whale as Minkie or Minkies' hval.

The Dwarf Mink Whale was described as a new subspecies not long ago and it is not sure yet if is one. Still has not scientific name. Mink Whale in captivity.

Mink whale has been tried to keep in captivity in Mito Aquarium, in Japan a few times. Most of the specimens died in few weeks while in 1956, the last one was able to scape a net aquarium after 37 days spinning the pool in the same direction.

Working these days has been a little difficult for me. As I mentioned, I moved to live in Canada last week and for now, I don’t have a place to live. I’m staying in the house of a friend and I have spent most of my time getting used to the weather in Vancouver and looking for a house. So far so good. I like changes and I think that being uncomfortable, sometimes just shakes the routine away and forces you to try new things. In my life, I have lived in eight different places. Lowland Tapir This species is a little bit tricky. English books just recognize one species, while Spanish and Portuguese recognize four. Since the animal is from South America and most of the biologists who studied this animal are from there, I will believe their information has more credibility. Therefore, I will present four subspecies of Lowland Tapir. Let’s begin. Tapirus terrestris aenigmaticus From what I understood and what I have seen, this one coloration is darker. This might not be a parameter to identify the subspecies, since animals of the same species can present various colorations. However, its skull presents substantial differences.

Southern Black Rhinoceros It's a subspecies of the Black Rhino that is extinct by 1850. This was due to excessive hunting. Inhabited the south of Africa and according to some skulls and some other remains of the animal, this subspecies is supposed to be the largest.

Incredibly, there was not a single photograph of the animal. Some scientists believed that this subspecies is not extinct and is considered a population that exists in the North of Namibia. New design. What do you think?
