i'm losing my damn mind right now
i’m literally so in love with nurse stevie !! he and his clumsy girl are so sweet 🤍
i was thinking, what if she was having a pregnancy check up and it happened to be at a time where steve was on shift so he like races down to where she is and does the ultrasound himself and gets to see the baby and she asks why he ran down here or something and he accidentally says “i missed my girls” and she’s like “wait it’s a girl?”
idk just him doing the ultrasound himself and accidentally telling her it’s a girl is just asjsueked ahhh so fkn cute
AN | Okay but stop! This is the cutest and with how much of a loveable disaster these two are, I could totally see this happening 🥺 This can be read as a companion piece to the below but also as a stand alone!

Despite your best efforts, a small sigh escaped your lips as you looked at your watch. Steve should have been off by now - he realistically should have been off about an hour ago, but you were used to that by now. There was a still small part of you that had hoped he would be here for the ultrasound. You knew you could just take home the photos, but it wouldn’t be the same. There was always next time, but today you were halfway through your pregnancy and it felt like a milestone.
When you heard your name being called by the ultrasound tech, you stood up and made your way over. You suddenly felt very pregnant with how long it took you to properly stand up and make your way over to her. At least you weren’t waddling just yet.
“Hello there,” Mary was sweet with a kind face and gentle smile. She’d been the one to help you out since the beginning and had always made you feel better, especially when you had a million and one questions, “no Steve today?”
“He was going to try and make it,” you explained and she made a small sound of understanding, “but it appears he got stuck past his shift.”
“The ER has been pretty busy today,” at least that confirmed your thought that he got stuck working late, “and you know how he is. Always going above and beyond for everyone and everything.”
“Trust me,” you grinned as you set your stuff down and moved to lie on the table which had become a friend the past few months, “I’m well aware. He’s being even more cautious than normal these days. I can barely lift a finger before he’s offering to do it or helping.”
“Well…” she was grinning in spite of yourself as you sighed dramatically, already knowing where this was heading, “remind me how the two of you met again? Something about a broken ankle?”
“Very funny,” you snorted in amusement, “I’ll have you know that nothing bad has happened in months! I’ve been very careful.”
“Mhmm,” she shot you a wink as you laid back and slowly began to undo the button of your jeans. Before she could say anything else, a frantic knocking came at the door, causing you both to pause, “do you want me to check who it is or let them know we’re busy?”
“You can check,” you shrugged, “don’t want to keep you from something potentially more important.”
She gave you a small smile before slowly opening the door. Mary almost laughed out loud when she found Steve on the other side, a panicked expression on his face as he tried to catch his breath, “hey! Hi, sorry I’m late - is she still here? Please don’t tell me I missed it!”
“We were just getting started,” she stepped aside to let him in, and as soon as he spotted you, he gave you a huge grin and visibly relaxed, “better check with your wife to make sure she wants you to stay.”
“He’s alright, I guess,” you teased, but Steve wasted no time before gently talking your face in his hands and leaning down to kiss you. You almost melted into his tender touch and the feel of his soft lips on yours. When he pulled back he was practically beaming, “on second thought, he can absolutely stay.”
“As if you’d ever say no to him,” you looked at your husband and shrugged, giving both of them a sheepish grin. She was right - you couldn’t fathom any situation in which you’d turn him down for anything, “ready to get started and see your baby?”
“Definitely!”
“Actually, Mary, I have a request,” you raised your eyebrows, trying to fathom what it could possibly be. He turned towards her so you were looking at his back and spoke softly under his breath, “I know we don’t usually do this, but do you think I can do the ultrasound today? I’m trained on how to do them and thought it might be cool, you know? But I understand if you say no…”
“You’re something else, Harrington,” there was nothing but playful affection lacing her words as she shook her head in amusement. He gave her the best puppy dog eyes he could muster up, which all things considered were pretty good, “alright, I’ll let you have at it. But this stays between us and if anyone ever asks, I was here doing it and you were just watching. Yes?”
“Yes,” he cheered softly, “you’re the best, Mary.”
“Don’t forget that the next time I need a favor,” she shot him a wink before turning back to you. You hadn’t heard their hushed conversation and looked at them in confusion, “well, I gotta get going but I’ll be back in a bit. Good luck!”
“You’re going…what? I don’t-” but she was gone and out the door before you could say anything else. You looked at Steve and raised your hands in confusion, “wait a minute, what are you two up to?”
“Nothing at all,” he smiled innocently before reaching to grab something off the cart, “but I’ll be conducting your ultrasound today, Mrs. Harrington. Now, whenever you’re ready.”
“Oh Steve,” you laughed at him, rolling your eyes playfully, “well then, I’m ready whenever you are, my love.”

It was a strange feeling to be lying on the hard examination bed, with your belly out (which seemed to have grown overnight out of nowhere) and covered in the cold jelly. You’d already learned that it was definitely not your favorite thing in the world. But the moment was perfect with Steve right next to you. As ever, he was calm and patient, treating you with such gentle reverence that made you weak in the knees. Good thing you were lying down or your clumsy self might have actually fallen.
“Let us see what we have here,” Steve brought out the wand and settled it on your stomach, causing a shiver to run down your spine. At first there was nothing for a few moments, which caused your worry and anxiety to spike, despite the fact that you knew the baby was one - definitely in there and two - had been moving around in the day. You waited with bated breath until you heard the sound of the small heartbeat over the monitor, “just as I suspected, we have - a baby!”
He turned to you with an amused little grin and you couldn’t help but laugh at him, “really? I thought we were getting a puppy! Is it too late to exchange it?”
“Ahh, sorry honey,” he shook his head before kissing your cheek, “I think it’s too late. We’re going to be stuck with a small human.”
“I guess I can live with that,” your eyes were glued to the monitor where you could see the blob that was your baby. They were moving around and you couldn’t help the tears that sprung up along with the wave of emotion that washed over you. It all seemed so surreal; you were having a baby. A baby with your wonderful husband. What a crazy world it was, “look at that blob. That’s our blob!”
“Oh honey,” he turned to look at you, a soft smile on his pretty features as he tenderly wiped away the tears that had pearled up and rolled down your cheeks, “it’s okay. Baby’s looking great!”
“I know,” you leaned into his touch, letting his large, warm palm engulf your cheek as you offered him a teary smile, “it’s just all so overwhelming, and I’m already all emotional, you know this by now. I just…I’m really happy, Steve.”
“Me too, sweetheart,” he kissed you, not minding the salty of your tears, and you sighed wistfully against his lips, “I love you, so much.”
“I love you too, Steve,” you teasingly poked at your belly, “and you too baby blob.”
“They’re going to come out of the womb thinking their name is Blob!”
“Tell them to stop looking like a blob then,” yeah, it might have been a blob, but you were already so enamored with it, “does everything look okay? Honestly?”
“I would never lie to you,” he wrote down a few things in your chart as you tried to peek over his shoulder as if you would understand any of it, “you know that. Yes, everything looks good. Strong, steady heartbeat, measuring around the perfect size. It all checks out - that is a healthy baby, and mother.”
"Good," you let out a nervous sigh of relief, "I can't wait to meet you little blob."
"Halfway there."
"Halfway there," you repeated, suddenly feeling like that was coming on way faster than you wanted, "slow down there little one!"

Steve knew you almost better than you knew yourself. You were already tucked up in bed, half-heartedly watching some movie on TV, but mostly trying not to fall asleep by the time he came into the bedroom. He had a glass of chocolate milk and a plate with some cookies in his hands. Your face lit up with excitement - you'd just been thinking about a sweet treat.
"Is this alright?" He asked, setting everything down on the bedside table before pressing a kiss to the side of your temple, "I had a feeling you'd been wanting something sweet right about now."
"You are my hero," you looked at him with big, wide doe eyes, leaning up to press a kiss to his lips. He tasted sweet; you just knew he'd already snuck a few cookies, "thank you, my love."
"No need to thank me," he pulled up the big fluffy comforter and crawled under it. He made himself comfortable before pulling you into his side. You rested your head on his chest and sighed wistfully, "how are you feeling?"
"Good," you promised, taking his hand in yours and lacing your fingers together, "today was good. I'm just tired, but that seems to be the new normal. But it's worth it - it was amazing getting to see the blob today. Thank you for coming, Steve. You didn't have to rush and leave work though, I know how hard you always work …there'll be plenty of other appointments."
"Are you kidding?" He scoffed playfully, "I wasn't going to miss it. I was already missing my girls too much."
"I - wait," you sat up and moved across from him so you were looking directly at him, "your what? Your girls?"
"Oh honey," a guilty, sheepish look crossed his features, "I-I didn't mean to…say that."
"We're having a girl?" and cue the waterworks. You most definitely couldn't help it at this point, emotions like a live wire as the tears rolled down your cheeks, "Steve?"
"Yeah," his smile was breathtaking as he nodded softly, "we're having a girl."
"Oh Steve!" you threw your arms around his neck and held onto him tightly, burying your face in the crook of his neck. He was surprised by your sudden excitement but melted into your touch as he pulled you onto his lap, "we're having a girl!"
"I'm sorry," his cheeks flushed a pretty shade of pink, "I know we said we weren't going to find out, and then I realized today at the ultrasound. I didn't think that one through. But I also didn't plan on telling you…it sort of slipped out. Sorry, honey."
"I know that's what we said," you pressed a big, excited kiss to his cheek, "but I've been dying to know too. I'm not upset, Stevie. I'm just…so happy."
"Yeah?" There was a dopey, lovesick smile on his face as you nodded fervently, "me too, sweetheart."
"It just makes it feel more real," you looked down at your bump, running your hand over it. Holy fuck. There was a baby girl growing there. A small gasp escaped your lips as you felt a flutter of movement, "oh!"
You grabbed Steve's hand and placed it on the spot you had felt the movement and watched his face light up as he felt her move. You placed your hand on his and gave it a gentle squeeze. You could see his pretty brown eyes glittering with unshed tears as, "Hey, baby girl. We're going to meet you really soon. Your mama and I love you so much already."
She moved around some more, clearly wanting to make herself known, and that left the two of you both emotional fools, "she likes you, likes your voice. She's totally gonna have you wrapped around her finger."
"Well, her mother already does so it's only natural," he touched your face, brushing his thumb gently over your cheek, as he studied you, “you know, some days none of this feels real. Like…how did I get my dream girl and get all of this, huh? Seems more like a lucid dream.”
“Dream girl?” you rolled your eyes affectionately before lightly pushing his cheek, “you’re so dramatic. I highly doubt your dream girl ever was the fool that trips over her own feet, manages to dislocate her elbow…among other things. It was a happy circumstance that we met!”
“That’s where you’re wrong,” he insisted, pressing his forehead against yours and letting his lips brush over yours, “you are my dream girl, and you were worth waiting for. You might be my clumsy girl, but you’re also my dream. I mean it - you are everything to me.”
“You’re not playing fair,” your voice cracked as you wrapped him up in your arms, clinging onto him like a koala. You were lightly crying again, unable to control the hundred of emotions that were coursing through your veins right now, “you’re taking advantage of my fragile state.”
“Oh honey, honey,” you could feel the rumble of his chuckle in his chest, but you refused to loosen your grip on him, “it’s okay, just let it all out. I’ve got you - I love you so much.”
“I love you,” you were pretty sure that there was no better spot than right there in his arms, “you're the best thing that’s happened to me. I’m so glad I broke my ankle and got to meet you.”
“Baby,” he sighed softly, rubbing soothing circles on your back, “that’s…we would have met some other way, I swear it. But I guess…I’m glad you did too.”
“And now you’re my husband,” you pulled back and gently took his handsome face in your hands as he nodded softly, “and we’re having a baby.”
“Yeah,” he agreed softly, turning his face so he could press a kiss to your palm, “we’re married and having a baby.”
“Steve?” he never loved his name more than when you said, always so sweet and soft. He made a small sound, encouraging you to go on, “you’re my dream too.”
And he practically melted in your arms as he leaned in to kiss you, “glad we’re on the same page, sweetheart. But now, the important question is - are you ready for cookies and a back rub?”
“Oh yes,” you practically groaned at the thought, “best husband ever.”
“I try,” he reached over and grabbed a cookie, taking a bite before offering you half, “I love you so much, my girls.”
“We love you too, Steve.”

Y/N: I’m not lazy, I just find it hard to put effort into things I’m not passionate about.
Steve: What are you passionate about?
Y/N: Sleeping.
it’s not the end, I’ll see your face again
I can’t get out of my head the idea of Steve becoming a nurse.
Most likely he doesn’t even see college as an option, so when someone (Robin) suggests becoming a nurse, he laughs it off with “I need college to do that” and “that’s a woman’s job”.
After being kindly smacked for saying that (Robin again), he starts to think about it more seriously.
He does it when he babysits his favorite fifteen year olds, when he helps Lucas out after a minor basketball injury, but especially whenever he’s taking care of Eddie’s battlefield wounds.
He feels a sense of pride and accomplishment every time he changes his bandages, helps him out with simple tasks or relieves him from the pain, but he also grows frustrated when Eddie has symptoms he has not the knowledge to recognize and has to take him to the doctors for check ups.
«Why not a doctor?» He asks Robin one day, completely out of the blue.
«You hate doctors» she replies, after one second of astonishment.
«Do I?»
«Yes??? Don’t you remember how pissed you were when we brought Eddie to the hospital and you kept cursing at them?»
«They were all assholes! None of them cared about him, even if he was half dead! They barely spoke to any of us, and he stayed for like, a month??»
«They were fine, they helped him right?»
«It wouldn’t kill them to be a little kinder…”»
«… like a nurse?»
Steve flips her off and she laughs.
Contrarily to any prediction, he tells Eddie first.
He doesn’t want to give Robin any chance to say “I told you so” before being 100% sure about his choice. He and Eddie got insanely closer since Steve decided to take care of him until he got back in shape, and after that their routine was so entangled that felt more natural to keep it up.
Steve knows they’re weirdly attached to one another, he drives Eddie everywhere, they spend the night at each other’s places, they sleep in the same bed, they talk about the smallest things to their deepest thoughts and fears. Every time his minds wonders about their dynamic, Steve brushes it off as “Platonic with a capital P” like what he has with Robin, but he’s lying to himself.
He doesn’t look at Robin the way he does with Eddie, he doesn’t think about holding hands with her and well, kissing her. But he knows he can’t do any of that, so he buries these thoughts and hides them under the “platonic with a capital P” like he did with Robin months ago.
They will go away, he hopes.
«I’m thinking about becoming a nurse» he says, casually one day. They’re hanging out in Eddie’s trailer, lazily sprawled on the couch.
Eddie sits up, rigid, and looks at him like he has grown a second head.
«Eddie?»
«I fucking hate you» Eddie bursts «do you enjoy making me suffer?»
Steve is absolutely shocked by the reaction «w-what?»
«taking care of me daily like I had a hot personal nurse wasn’t enough?? You want to do the real thing? I bet it’s because of some selfless reasons like “I wanna help others” “think about the kids” and all of that bullshit» he gets up, pacing around the small space as he speaks «it was hard enough to make sure you wouldn’t notice how it made me feel- fuck, you’re going to wear the uniform to? Fucking hell-»
Steve stands up as Eddie is pouring out every single thought he had bottled up, pretty much like Steve Did, probably not realizing fully what he is doing.
Steve steps closer while Eddie is too busy with his stream of consciousness to notice «-just a poor man Stevie, what can I do when you take off my shirt and touch me everywhere? I even dream about it! And I don’t know why I’m telling you this and why are you so close I told you I-» his sentence dies as Steve presses their lips together.
The kiss effectively shuts him up, not that Steve wasn’t enjoying the heated confession, but knowing they feel the same about each other, he doesn’t want to waist one second more.
Bonus:
«are you ready?»
«no I’m not» Eddie groans, sitting on the bed «just come out already»
Steve steps into their bedroom, wearing his nurse uniform for the first time.
«Fuck!» Eddie groans, dramatically throwing himself on the bed. He brings a hand over his heart «help! I’m having a stroke, I need a hot nurse to do CPR on me!»
Steve laughs «there’s so many wrong things with everything you said I don’t know where to begin» but he leans down to kiss him nonetheless.
Summary-After the final fight with Vecna, Y/N gets hurt, sending her to the hospital

It was finally over, Vecna was dead. It was dead silent, no one making a noise. The group stood, looking at each other, slight, exhausted smiles pulling on their lips. Vecna lay in front of them, his gross, slimy body splayed on the floor, black blood oozing from his wounds, expanding as it continued to flow from the once human.
Nancy lowered her shotgun from her shoulder, sighing as the final demogorgon fell limp on the ground from a gunshot wound, letting out one last screech as it died.
Then the celebration started. Steve and Robin hugged each other tightly, Nancy and Johnathan kissed, Johnathan then pulled Will into a hug, smiling at him. Hopper and Joyce embraced and kissed each other, letting out heavy sighs of relief that the fight had finally come to an end for good. Mike lay with El in his arms, exhaustion overcoming her body from fighting Vecna, smiles on their faces as they watched Dustin and Eddie hugging each other, jumping around like crazy people, Lucas and Max holding each other in tight embraces.
Eleven's eyes caught sight of the only remaining member, Y/N, who sat off to the side, breathing heavily. El squinted her eyes, taking a minute of staring at the older girl, to realize she had a piece of wood impaled in her chest. The younger girl scrambled to her feet, forgetting all about her exhaustion, rushing to the oldest of all the teen girls. El fell to her knees, looking at the wound to the other girl's chest, tears welling in her eyes.
"Oh my God. Eddie!" Mike called as he followed his girlfriend to where she was off to in such a rush. Everyone fell quiet, the only noise came from Y/N, her labored breathing becoming apparent to her friends around her.
When Eddie saw who El and Mike kneeled next to, his heart dropped, rushing to his dying girlfriend. "Oh my God. Y/N/N. W-what happened?" He asked, tears filling his deep brown eyes. Y/N looked up at him with glazed-over eyes, giving him a weak smile, blood coating her teeth, but she hadn't even noticed the metallic taste in her mouth.
"I-I-I had a little accident. Didn't m-move out of the w-way f-f-fast enough I gu-guess." She stuttered, a string of blood mixed with saliva falling from her lips as she spoke in a quiet voice. The metalhead could faintly hear Hopper instruct Steve and Robin to bring a car around to the front to pick Y/N up, the two older teens following orders quickly. Eddie moved to sit next to his girlfriend, trying to move her onto his lap, but she only whimpered out, and all movement ceased. Eddie didn't want to put her in more pain than she was already in, so he sat next to his injured girl, stroking her hair every few seconds. "Hurts, Eds." Y/N muttered, her words almost too stung together to make anything out of.
"I know baby, I know. Just hang on for me for a few more minutes. Harrington and Robin are bringin' the car around to take you to the hospital. Just keep those pretty eyes open for me for a little while longer, pretty girl. Come one Y/N, keep those eyes open for me!" Eddie voiced, watching as the y/e/c color of Y/N's eyes fluttered closed, but would open only a second later.
"Car is here!" Robin yelled as she rushed back into the building. Hopper moved to the injured girl, telling Eddie to help him get her into the car, Eddie doing as told. Everyone rushed after the three, watching as Eddie got into the back of Steve's car first, helping to guild Y/N into the back with him, resting her head on his lap. Hopper shut the door once the girl was fully in, telling Eddie everyone would meet him at the hospital in a while after they all cleaned up. Eddie simply nodded his head, telling Steve to go. The tires squealed on the pavement for a second before the BMW was flying out of the parking lot of the old Starcourt mall, where the fight ensued.
The car tore down the roads, Robin occasionally turning around to check on her friends in the back, making sure Y/N was still awake and responding to her boyfriend.
"Hey, Y/N, baby, keep your eyes open for me! Stay awake princess, we're almost there. Steve, go faster, I'm losing her!" Eddie yelled, trying to keep the fading girl in his lap to stay awake. Steve pressed down on the gas pedal harder, shifting the gear, the car lurching forward just slightly before picking up speed, bringing them closer to the hospital. Eddie stared down at Y/N, watching as her eyes drooped more, trying to coax her to stay awake. Y/N fought against the inviting sleep that was encasing her, but she lost when it wrapped its sloth-like fingers around her, encasing her in a darkness that she wasn't entirely sure she would wake from.
~*~
The incessant beeping of something close to her woke Y/N from her slumber, bringing a hundred-pound brick of pain with it. The sloth-like fingers that encased her before unraveled from around her, but also dropped the brick onto her chest, shoulders, and sides, refusing to let up. An itching feeling crawled up her arm, pulling her other arm to her side, scratching at whatever was causing the itch. Her fingers felt tape and something sticking to her arm, so naturally, she started to pick at it, trying to get whatever it was, off of her arm. Warm hands grabbed onto her, pulling her hand away from her arm, wrapping themselves around her hand and setting it back down on the bed.
"Leave the IV alone, princess. It's there to help you." She heard a voice say from next to her, the same place she heard the beeping coming from. It took her a minute to register who the voice belonged to, but it wasn't long before she was opening her eyes to see her boyfriend sitting next to her bed. His hair was pulled into a bun on the top of his head, a look Eddie knew Y/N loved, his torso covered in a hoodie. He had bags under his eyes, dark compared to his usually light skin. His lips looked irritated, chapped and red from the constant picking and chewing he did over the last few days. But, the thing Y/N noticed over everything else, was the bright smile he had on his lips. His perfect teeth shown through his smile, radiating warmth towards Y/N.
A sudden pain rushed through Y/N's chest and shoulders, eliciting a whine of pain from her lips. Eddie sat up suddenly, placing his warm lips on his girlfriend's hand, watching as she breathed heavily, trying to will the pain away. When it calmed down, the girl slowly opened her eyes, looking over at Eddie. "What happened?" She asked, having no memory of how she got here, or really even why she was here.
"We fought Vecna, remember? We were in the old Starcourt mall. We didn't realize that Henry had built a kind of home there. We fought him there and killed him. He's dead, baby. It's finally all over. No more Upside Down shit. It's all over." Eddie said, a beaming smile on his face.
"But how did I get here?" Y/N asked, trying to recall the events at Starcourt that lead to her laying in a hospital bed.
"When we were fighting him, you got hit in the chest with a wood chunk. It went into your chest and hit one of your lungs. You almost died, but we were able to get you here just in time. You died on the operating table twice, baby. They had to revive you two times before they could get the wood out of your chest. But they were luckily able to pull the wood out and stop the bleeding before you started to code again. You've been asleep since then. That was four days ago." Eddie explained, playing with her fingers as he spoke. "You gave me quite the scare there, princess. I thought I lost you that night." The dungeon master mentioned, tears falling from his sad brown eyes. Y/N removed her hand from his grip, bringing it up to his face to wipe the tears away, letting the palm of her hand rest on Eddie's cheek, allowing him to nuzzle his face into her hand, finding comfort in being so close to her after days of no contact with her.
~*~
Not long after, Eddie went and got the doctor so he could examine Y/N. He confirmed she was okay, saying he would like to keep her for several more days before letting her go. Once the doctor left, Eddie all but jumped into bed with Y/N, snuggling close to her, making sure to be careful of the stitches on her chest. "Rest Eddie, you need it. I'm not going anywhere." Y/N told Eddie when she saw his eyes drooping. The metalhead nodded tiredly, falling asleep only minutes after he agreed.
The couple slept the rest of that day and all through the night, waking up mid-morning the next day. As the pair ate breakfast, Steve, Robin, Nancy, and Max came to see them. They were happy to see their friend finally awake, talking to her, asking her how she was, making sure she had everything she needed, overall, just fusing over her. Once she was able to calm the four down, they sat and talked quietly.
"Hey, baby. Are you okay if I go and shower? I won't be long, ten minutes tops." Eddie asked from behind her in bed, moving her hair off her neck and behind her shoulder.
"Yeah, I'll be fine Eds. Take as long as you need. I've got these guys to keep me company." Y/N replied to him, planting a kiss on his lips as he got out of bed and walked to the bathroom in her room.
"You know he never left right? He hasn't left this room once since you were put in here four days ago. And he hasn't left the hospital at all since that night. He's stayed put ever since." Steve said once he heard the shower go on. The girls confirmed what he said, telling her how he hasn't even left the hospital to smoke. He sat in the waiting room while she was in surgery, sat next to her in the recovery room, and now has sat in this room waiting for her to wake up.
"He had Dustin go to his house and get a bag full of clothes and his other things for him so he didn't have to leave. He said he didn't want to risk not being here when you woke up." Max said, smiling softly at the care Eddie had for Y/N. Just then, the bathroom door opened up, and Eddie came out of the room with a new set of clothes on, towel drying his hair. He smiled sweetly at her, tossing his towel over the chair under the window to dry.
"I think we should get going, let you rest some more Y/N. Glad to see you awake and doing better. We missed you." Nancy said, slowly ushering everyone out of the room, giving Y/N and Eddie a warm smile before she walked out of the room. Just as they walked out, a nurse walked in, looking over the chart on the wall.
"How are you feeling right now, Y/N?" She asked in a sweet tone, grinning at said girl.
"I'm alright. Still tired but I'm sure that will stick around for a while." She replied, resting her head back on her pillow.
"Are you feeling up to a shower? I'll help you and we can go as slow as you need." The nurse asked, walking closer to the bed, putting the side railing down as she talked.
"Yeah, I would love nothing more than a shower. I feel gross. I've never gone this long without a shower." Y/N snorted, making the nurse grin at her, and Eddie chuckle under his breath at his girlfriend.
"Alright. You're okay to wear whatever you want, as long as it's not tight or constricting on your chest and shoulders. I'll help you into the bathroom and if you need help showering, I'll be there to help." The nurse reassured, smiling gently at Y/N.
"I have some extra clothes for you here, babe. I figured you'd want to get out of the hospital gown as soon as possible, so I had Dustin grab something for you." Eddie said, getting up from the bed and digging through his bag for something that Y/N could wear. He came back with one of his shirts and a pair of pants, handing them to the nurse.
"Alright sweety, let's get you showered!" She said, helping the injured girl into the bathroom.
~*~
The bathroom door opened up, pulling Eddie from the random show he was watching on the tv, seeing Y/N walk out first, the nurse behind her for support. She shuffled across the floor carefully, gently sitting down on the bed when she got to it. She swung her legs up onto the bed, covering herself with the blankets once she was comfortable enough. The nurse quickly bid her goodbye, reminding her if she needed anything, to press the call button.
Y/N sunk down into the bed, looking over and Eddie with tired eyes, giving him a soft smile. "Hi, baby. Have a good shower?" Eddie asked, stroking her wet hair.
Y/N nodded her head, letting her eyes close for a moment before she opened them again. "It was great but it really kicked my ass. I didn't know taking a shower could be so tiring." She said with a quiet giggle, making Eddie laugh too.
"I'm sure. I do have to say though, you look really good in my clothes. They just swallow you whole, don't they?" Eddie laughed, looking at his girlfriend in his clothes. His Hellfire shirt nearly hit her knees, meaning she didn't really need the sweats she was wearing, but she put them on anyway, seeing as she was so cold. "Go to sleep princess. I'll be right here with you when you wake up. I'm not going anywhere." Eddie said, letting Y/N cuddle into his side as she slept.

"Alright, clean your stitches twice a day and put this over it once you're done cleaning it. Eddie, don't let her lift anything heavy until she has the stitches out and don't let her do too much. Her lungs are still healing too, so it's going to be hard to do some things right now. Just give yourself time to heal and you'll be fine. And no more getting wood chunks embedded in your chest, I don't want to see you back here for that. I'll have someone call you to schedule your follow-up appointment." The doctor said, handing papers to Eddie before he let the couple go.
Eddie pushed the wheelchair out of the front doors to the hospital, to the side of his van, helping Y/N up into the passenger side before he returned the wheelchair and got in on his side.
"You ready to get out of her, princess?" He asked, putting his seatbelt on. Y/N nodded her head, flashing him a wicked smile.
"Yes! Now, let's go to our spot in the woods!" Y/N said with a spark in her eyes, making Eddie nervous.
"I don't think so! You, princess, are going home and resting until you get those stitches out." Eddie said, throwing the van into gear and pulling out of the hospital parking lot. Eddie could hear the sigh from beside him, stealing a glance at his girlfriend, seeing her pouting in her seat. The metalhead snickered to himself, pulling out onto the road, driving himself and Y/N home to his trailer.
el was fighting boredom at the weekly dnd night at steve's house. she lost the plot thirty minutes ago when eddie brought out something called a pseudodragon that got the entire table up to their feet, screaming in frustration and fear. she knew what a dragon was but what does pseudo mean? no one could give her a clear answer and eddie was too impatient to let anyone explain, moving the plot along, promising to tell her later.
el gave up, walking away from the table and finding steve in the separated living room, tv on, popcorn bowl in his lap. she sat down next to him with an annoyed hmph.
steve smirked in her direction, "finally got tired of all the nerd shit, huh?"
she sighed, "i do not mind listening to the story. it can be fun sometimes. but the words are too long and no one has time to explain to me what they mean. it makes me feel...."
steve nodded, understanding clear on his face, "i get it. they talk so fast and loud, nothing they say ends up making any sense. or they'll get mad for even daring to ask. as if we grew up reading novel length fantasy books or whatever. don't worry, i'm sure once they finish up, they'll tell you all about it."
el smiled, glad to have someone else to be confused with her. she looked over at the tv. "what are you watching?"
"hmm? oh, i was just catching up on the baseball game. here, you can change the channel if you want."
she took the remote being handed to her, about to do just that, when suddenly she heard booing coming from the screen. a man in a pinstripe uniform, wearing a mitten was running towards another man with a metal cage on his face. she could see the two men were yelling, the man with the mitten being pulled back by other men wearing the same pinstripe shirt. the booing got louder.
"why are they angry?"
steve blinked, looking between el and back to the screen. "uhh, not too sure but from the looks of it, the pitcher thinks the umpire made a bad call."
el blinked back, head tilted.
"right, yeah, okay. so, you see the guy being pulled back? that's the pitcher, he throws the ball so that the guy with the bat can either hit or miss. they're on opposite teams so it's the pitchers job to make the hitter miss the ball. but he has to throw it in a way that gives the hitter a fair shot of hitting. the umpire is the one being yelled at and he isn't on anyone's team. he makes sure that the pitcher and hitter don't try to cheat, to make the game fair. sometimes, like right now, the umpire will make a call that a throw was out of bounds, meaning it wasn't thrown properly and that can make the pitcher angry. cause again, his whole job is to throw the ball and make the hitter miss. if the umpire says it wasn't thrown fairly, that will let the hitter walk onto the base. does that make sense?"
slowly she nodded, watching now with rapt attention. the angry men were scattering, the pitcher, going back to his little hill in the middle of the field.
"and they do not....want the other team to go on the bases? the squares on the corners?"
steve lit up, beaming, "that's right! the whole point of the game is for the team to hit the ball and get as many people on their team to touch each base and return back to the first square. the more people who touch all the bases, the more points they get and win the game."
el smiled back, sitting up straighter as she let steve's impassioned explanation envelop her with a sense of pride. it reminded her of will when he got really into a piece of d&d lore, how he would slow down to make sure she followed along and would go back to break down some of the more complicated bits.
but steve seemed to catch himself, face flushing and his smile growing smaller in a self deprecating way. "sorry, this all must sound super boring to you. we can put on a movie if you want, i got loads."
she shook her head before he finished his sentence. "no! it is not boring. it looks kind of fun. can we keep watching?"
shock colored his face but the smile lost its touch of shyness and a light feeling bloomed in el's stomach.
"sure thing kid. let me know if you get lost. gotta warn you, though, i'm kind of bad at it."
she shook her head again and bumped her shoulder against his. "the way you explain things...is easy to follow. i like it." his entire face softened, hand ruffling her hair before placing the bowl of popcorn into her lap.
"why is the pitcher standing on that little hill?"
"it's called the mound. pitchers can throw the ball faster if they throw it downhill towards the hitter."
"who is that man squatting behind the hitter?"
"that's the catcher. he and the pitcher communicate using hand signals to let each other know where they want the ball to go cause they're on the same team. if the ball is thrown and the catcher doesn't catch it, that could get the hitter a freebie or another chance to hit the ball. the hitter gets three chances to hit and if he misses, it goes to the next hitter."
they continue like that for the rest of the night, el asking question after question and steve answering the all to the best of his ability. she appreciates it when he lets her know that some questions leave him stumped. he promises to find the answer and let her know the next time watch together.
"if you want, i mean. there's usually a game on when the heathens play here."
el nods, excited for the first time for d&d night to come around again
