good morning mr neil! a few users here have recalled a good omens talk you and terry attended around 2004-ish wherein you discussed one of your favorite things about the book was that it brought so many skinny goth gaiman fans and round nerdy pratchett fans together, and sir terry is delightfully quoted as saying that the couples "looked like lots of number 10s walking down the street together". Absolutely incredible and adorable image - I know many 1 and 0 couples myself haha! Do you recall this/have anything to add to the story?

Terry took an enormous delight in Good Omens signings because he loved that my fans (skinny, dressed in black, tattooed before that was common or with interesting hair colours ditto, "wearing their underwear on the outside" whatever that meant) and his (normally older, actually employed in real jobs, often wearing sweaters, sometimes carrying sweaters they had knitted themselves which they then presented to Terry along with a jar of homemade blackberry jam) stood in the same lines to get their books signed, and met and sometimes even married.

izzy's line to ed where he says 'you know me better than anyone has ever known me and i daresay the same is true for me about you' was devastating to me actually because imagine hearing that as ed

ed stopped trying to be friends with izzy long ago but still as recently as s1 was showing him things that he found interesting and was still being met with indifference. izzy betrayed him and the entire crew by selling them out to the navy. izzy had nothing but contempt for ed when he was sad after stede left him at the dock. izzy made it very clear that he's only interested in ed when he's performing the blackbeard persona, goading ed deliberately until he snapped back into it then proving that this was entirely his intention

so imagine being ed and having to hear izzy declare that he thinks he's the one who knows you best in the world when he's the reason you're living a life you despise and you spend all of your time desperately missing a man who you fell in love with instantly, who responded positively to everything you'd ever been made to feel weird for before, who listened to your biggest secrets and didn't bat an eyelid, who was the only person you ever felt truly comfortable and safe around, who is still literally your reason to live despite the fact that he left you behind
