I started crying today at the museum because they had reconstructed the shoes of Otzi the iceman.

a reconstruction of the shoe worn by otzi the ice man. it is made of an outer layer of bear leather with the back half made of knotted twine, stuffed with dried grass

Either he or someone he knew who cared about him made these shoes out of grass and bear skin and twine and he was wearing them when he died over five thousand years ago.

And a Czech researcher and his students did reconstructions of these shoes and wore them to the same place where he died to test them out and they were like yep! These shoes are really cozy and comfy and didn’t give us blisters while hiking!

Is that not just the coolest shit ever????

dark academia but you live in the countryside

wax jackets (barbour or similar) with lots of pockets… you can carry so many books in a poacher’s pocket

battered leather boots that were smart once

walking through a village graveyard with the sun at your back, warming you slightly in the crisp morning

always carrying a pocketknife (opinels are preferable)

tweed jackets - practical and warm (and classic da)

sketching the animals and plants around you and pinning them up in your room

collecting insects and labelling them neatly in their boxes

finding a sun-bleached sheep skull on a mountainside and taking it home

wandering across fields and moors with no particular aim in mind, and a hip flask full of whisky to keep you warm

stone churches in tiny villages, the smell of old bibles, sun through stained glass windows

taking a stack of books down to the river to sit and read in the sun

riding your bike down to the village library, occupying the only table for the afternoon

paddling barefoot down freezing streams, trousers rolled to your knees, cutting your feet on the rocks and feeling alive

just so yall know

art block is your brain telling you to do studies.

draw a still life. practice some poses. sketch some naked people. do a color study. try out a different technique on a basic shape.

art block doesnt stop you from drawing, it stops you from making your drawings look the way you want them to. and thats because you need to push your skills to the next level so you can preform at that standard

think of it as level grinding for your next work.
