"The World"
(original poem)
Sometimes I look at the world
And I see that it is hideous.
I see a girl typing offensive messages behind a screen,
Knowing no one will know it was her.
I see a boy making jokes about a group of people
When his classmate is part of that group.
I see a girl being told that she “asked for it”
Because her skirt was “too short.”
I see a boy forbidden from being himself
Because he was born a “girl.”
I see a couple keeping their relationship a secret
Because their love is illegal.
I see children torn from their parents and siblings
For coming to a safer place.
I see students huddling in the corner of their classroom,
Hiding from the armed man in the hallway.
I see people who believe that others should not be alive
Because they are different.
I see chaos, hate, prejudice, sadness.
I see all of this, and I think, “The world is hideous.”
Sometimes I look at the world
And I see that it is beautiful.
I see a girl placing her lunch next to a girl she’s never spoken to,
But who looks lonely.
I see a boy standing up to defend his friend
When someone is bullying him.
I see a girl shaving her head and donating her hair
To raise money for cancer.
I see a boy tutoring a younger student at school
And helping him to understand.
I see a family with a raft rescuing their neighbors
From the roof of their flooded house.
I see a group of students organizing a clothing drive
For children who need it more than they do.
I see an act of kindness on the street
That may make a world of difference to one person.
I see celebrations of identity, heritage, and pride,
And people who are unafraid to be who they are.
I see peace, love, acceptance, joy.
I see all of this, and I think, “The world is beautiful.”
In April I was in a school production of West Side Story. Here are the Sharks - I was a Shark ensemble boy. That’s me in the black hat and brown jacket. Loved my cast. ❤❤❤
Ben Platt as Evan Hansen and Laura Dreyfuss as Zoe Murphy from Dear Evan Hansen. This is based on the “Only Us” scene. Made in 2 hours using mechanical pencil, a smudger and wax paper to prevent accidental smudges.
Agreed! I loved most of the Love Simon movie, but that part really bothered me. I like the way the book portrayed it better.
simon’s friends tried to treat their dumb straight people drama to simon being outed to their entire school and then proceeded to show ZERO empathy towards their friend who had just undergone an incredibly traumatic experience like yeah sure he lied! but nick and abby still end up together and simon’s gay so there was never any chance for him and leah anyway slkfsjdlfkjs
AND THEN they proceeded to not talk to him for what??? days?? weeks?? even when he was the victim of homophobic bullying in front of a whole crowd of people. and then when they decided simon was cool again they didn’t even apologise they just went “want to go to the fairground? :)” as if they hadn’t just ditched their friend through one of the worst periods of his life what the fuck
How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines, it will shine out the clearer. —The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
As you probably know I'm very interested in Dear Evan Hansen, so I made an animatic of For Forever on my YouTube channel, Ravenclaw Book Nerd. I also do book reviews and speed art on that channel. Hope you like it!

***SPOILERS CONTAINED BEYOND THIS POINT***
Wow. What a ride. This book was not only so exciting that I stayed up past midnight three nights in a row reading it, but also incredibly meaningful.
I was upset by Elhokar's death because I had hopes for Moash and Elhokar was close to redemption. And by upset I mean I was throwing my pillow down the stairs. That scene where Kaladin had his breakdown and the humans and parshmen he cared about started fighting really got to me. Poor Kal has gone through so much and he just needs love. (Not necessarily romantic, just love in general)
This book really addresses the meanings of right and wrong, after getting to know the parshmen with Kaladin and finding out that the humans we're the voidbringers.
I think there's a lot of representation of different human problems and mental illnesses in this book: split/multiple personality with Shallan, depression with Kaladin, epilepsy with Renarin, amnesia and alcohol addiction with Dalinar. As Brandon Sanderson himself said, character's limitations are more interesting than their strengths, and the realism of these characters is one of the amazing things about these books, as well as the detailed worlds and cultures he created. And, of course, the crossover with Warbreaker and the mention of Vivenna.
I loved this book. So much. I'm glad Shallan and Adolin ended up together, because I don't think I could imagine Kaladin and Shallan. Also, Dalinar fighting off Odium was the coolest thing ever. I'm so happy that Jasnah became queen.
I think it's awesome that Dalinar learned to read at the end because as he said, the men claimed battle and the women claimed literature, and now with Jasnah, Shallan, Lift, Lyn, etc, learning to fight and Dalinar and Renarin learning to read, they're reclaiming what used to be closed to them. It's so cool.
Thank you, Brandon, for this amazing new update on Roshar, and I can't wait for the next one.
The way Jeremy screams Michael’s name when he makes an entrance during The Play reblog if you agree
This is honestly the best AU I've ever seen in any fandom
No ok but seriously:
- Instead of racing for gem hearts, the alethi high princes battle it out with their synchronized skating teams
- Team Sadeas skating to Look Down from Les Mis
- I think it was mentioned somewhere that there was slightly less gravity on Roshar so like, people doing quintuple jumps and quad axels
- Adolin challenging people to singles matches for their shard blades (i.e. their skate blades)
- Ardents are the judges in the VSU (Vorin Skating Association)
- Wind spren sticking peoples tow picks to the ice and making them faceplate during spirals
- Renarin can’t jump for shit but he’s a genius choreographer
- Instead of rediscovering Storm form, the listeners rediscover dance form. The reason everyone is so scared of them is because HOW THE HELL ARE THEY SUPPOSED TO BEAT THEM IN SYNCHRONIZED SKATING IF THEY CAN LITERALLY HEAR THE RYTHMS PERFECTLY IN TIME
- Sadeas makes a bunch of teams work themselves to the bone.
- Kaladin’s team, Team 4, is just like, fuck that I’m out
- Amaram took credit for Kaladin’s choreography and Kaladin was like, fuck that I’m out
- Jasnah is basically the queen of women’s singles free skating
- YOUR FAVES DOING PAIRS
- Dalinar bullying the Stormfather into coaching for him
I could go on but you get the idea
