If Someone Is An Adjunct Professor, It’s Even Worse (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/11/11/adjunct-faculty_n_4255139.html).

If someone is an adjunct professor, it’s even worse (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/11/11/adjunct-faculty_n_4255139.html). According to that article, the average salary for an adjunct is between $20,000 and $25,000. I think the untenured column on this graph is higher than that because it’s including tenure-track positions.

Belittling of male rape victims is the result of several factors, but feminism isn’t one of them. The primary reason people think men can’t get raped is that they stereotype men as more capable and stronger. Which is the sort of stereotyping feminism is actively trying to combat.

In fact, feminists are some of the most vocal advocates saying that men can be raped (see example here: http://everydayfeminism.com/2014/12/male-rape-epidemic/ ; I can provide more examples if you want).

Some of the most common proponents of the idea that men can’t be raped are MRAs (which is a misleading name if I’ve ever heard one). If you really want to point fingers, point them at the group that actually is dispensing this sort of lie.

Obviously, people can feel free to choose whatever label they want for their beliefs, but if they believe in equality of the sexes, then they are feminists. If they don’t, then they aren’t. It’s that simple.

Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson go on a camping trip, set up their tent, and fall asleep. Some hours later, Holmes wakes his faithful friend. ‘Watson, look up at the sky and tell me what you see.’ Watson replies, ‘I see millions of stars.’ ‘What does that tell you?’ Watson ponders for a minute. 'Astronomically speaking, it tells me that there are millions of galaxies and potentially billions of planets. Astrologically, it tells me that Saturn is in Leo. Timewise, it appears to be approximately a quarter past three. Theologically, it’s evident the Lord is all powerful and we are small and insignificant. Meteorologically, it seems we will have a beautiful day tomorrow. What does it tell you?’ Holmes is silent for a moment, then speaks. 'Watson, you idiot, someone has stolen our tent.’

I think the difference here is that minus-zero-blogs is talking about systemic sexism, whereas johnhocksbur is talking about specific incidents of sexism. Men will rarely be victims of systemic sexism (although there are occasional instances, such as how it’s socially acceptable for a woman to wear either a dress or pants but not for a man to wear a dress); however, they may be victims of specific instances of sexism. People are just sexist in specific instances against women more often.

I will also note that your sources both mention sexism against women as being more frequent or more common than sexism against men.

Sexism can be against anyone. And thinking that women can't be as savage and heartless as men is sexist against everybody.

actually women can’t be sexist toward men

women can hate men, or be biased against them, but sexism requires privilege and power

basically it’s the difference between an isolated incident and society being completely rigged against you

“Cis and straight people can do as much propaganda as they want about cisness and heterosexuality, but as soon as we try to give the choice to children, they call it ‘brainwashing’.”

Holy Crap “Lost Stars” Just Acknowledged The Existence Of Transgender People In The Star Wars Universe.

Holy crap “Lost Stars” just acknowledged the existence of transgender people in the Star Wars universe. And not only that, but that transition technology and procedures exist and are relatively common knowledge.

I know some people could interpret this as an anti-trans women joke, but it honestly doesn’t read that way to me. This author, Claudia Gray, could have had Dak say something very different, either overly derisive of trans people (we all know how those jokes tend to go) or responding with agreement about how cold it is and not mentioning transition at all. Instead Gray has Dak say “There are easier ways to switch genders you know.” Aka if for some reason Thane wasn’t talking about the cold, it opened up that line of conversation (Perhaps Dak’s reason for saying it within the diegesis of the story). Aka letting any trans readers know that people like them exist in the Star Wars universe in canon, even if no named trans characters have appeared yet (I don’t think they have?).

Idk, this line blew me away and made me really happy. Gray has made people like me a canon part of the Star Wars universe with this line, and not in a way that marginalizes us or treats us as freaks (at least the way I read this line) and that makes me ludicrously pleased.
