Thunderstorms remind me of you
You who was there on the rainy days
Overpowering the dreary, mood
You sparked and brought light to the sky
I was afraid of you at first
But at some point, you became comforting to me
You were my Thunderstorm
There was a thunderstorm, outside. The clouds were rolling, the rain was pouring down accompanied by the flashes of lightning. Y/N was scared of storms since they were young. The flashes of lightning, the loud noises, and the howling wind all scared them...
But now they were at ease... Thunderstorms became pleasant for them since they met Namjoon; he was their knight in shining armor that protected them like a shield from the arrows of what they were so terrified of.
If it had been their younger self they would have run and hidden somewhere, turning herself into a ball waiting for all the commotions outside to stop. But now thunderstorms didn’t scare them... it reminded them of his love .
Y/N was scared at first, questioning themself for getting into a relationship with a busy idol. But Namjoon reassured them and talked them out of all the insecure thoughts that plagued Y/N's mind. He was there for them all the times they were insecure, when they were questioning themself, or when they were stressing about work and Y/N was there for him when he was insecure about not being a perfect leader or a boyfriend, when he was not getting any inspiration to write or compose, or when he was stressed of everything happening in life. They were like two pieces of a puzzle that fitted each other perfectly to make a complete picture. They completed each other by filling each other’s incompleteness.
Now they were both on their couch cuddling comfortably while Namjoon read a book aloud for Y/N to listen. They were both happy in each other’s embrace, sharing their warmth, sharing their love…
in which the love you have for him is the cause of your death

“And the Princess got taken away-“ his superfluous gestures almost caused him to fall off the bed, but before he could slide off, he put a foot down, hands still high in the air, bearing a striking resemblance to a gymnast. Even through the foggy vision caused by the tears running down your cheeks you could clearly see the comical expression, wide eyed and mouth puckered.
“Yoongi, stop.” Exploding into another fit of laughter, you held yourself, tears still streaming down your face. It had been a little over an hour since you had called him over, your desperate watery voice immediately springing him into action. He didn’t care that it was almost midnight and tomorrow he had an early lecture, it didn’t matter that your dorm was on the other side of the campus and it was way past curfew. None of this mattered to him. The thought of you alone, in your tiny dorm room, crying your heart out was all he could think of. So he ran as fast as he could until he reached your dorm. Getting past the night guard was a piece of cake, he’d done it more than once for your movie nights. Once he arrived at your door, panting and bent over from the effort, he knocked once, twice, three times; your secret code. The sight of your blotchy tear stained face wiped away any memory of the stitch he had acquired on the way there. You needed him, so without a word he grabbed your top and pulled you into his arms.
It had been a little over an hour since Yoongi appeared at your door, face red from running, his breath coming out in raspy pants. It had been a little over an hour since he pulled you into his arms, holding you tightly. His familiar scent had washed over you and as you felt his arms slacken to let you go, you fisted his hoodie and clung tighter onto him. You weren’t ready to let go.
“Why did you run all the way over here, stupid? You hate running.” Your voice was muffled by the thick material of his top and you could barely breathe, yet you couldn’t care less. The warmth of his hold paired with his own scent were the only things holding you together. Your tears had stopped, but you’d been crying for so long that your whole head felt stuffy.
Yoongi savoured the feel of your frame pressed against his, your tight hold on him let him know that you needed him, and he was ready to provide all the support he could. There was very little he wouldn’t do for you. In fact, there was only one thing he wouldn’t do for you. He wouldn’t tell you how he felt on days like these; days when you would call him struggling to deal with your own emotions. Not because he couldn’t, but because he didn’t have the courage to burden you.
If there was ever a situation where Yoongi needed a kind soul to write him a ‘Best Friend Handbook’, this would be it. It’s not that he was a bad friend, quite the contrary. Almost a decade of being friends would suggest otherwise. Give him playground troubles –he could deal with, give him school troubles and last minute assignments stress– he could deal with, give him late night calls to discuss anything and everything under the sun – he was your man. Throw love at him, and he was as good as a Lost Boy in Neverland.
“Tell me a story.” He turned to face you, his expression giving away the surprise he felt at your words. You hadn’t asked this from him in years, knowing very well that storytelling was not his forte. You found out this fault of his pretty early into your friendship, when your rambunctious twelve year old self decided to pester him for a story. He failed pretty miserably to meet your standards and since then you’ve decided to not ask him to make such a tremendous effort. To hear it come out of your mouth in such a pleading way befuddled him.
“I…uh, Y/N.” He couldn’t continue, the sight of your fresh tears pooling on your bottom lashes killed any complaints he may have had. “Right.” He glanced awkwardly around the room, spotting your desk chair not too far from where he was. Before he could grab it and settle in for a disastrous venture, your grip on his hoodie tightened and you pulled him in the opposite direction.
That is how he found himself halfway through a botched version of Sleeping Beauty with his body doing acrobatics he’d never thought himself capable of. Yet, the sight of your bent over form, your hands holding your sides as if you’d burst at the seams if you didn’t and the fresh tears caused by laughter – it made it all worth it. The notion of secondhand embarrassment didn’t matter to him, all that mattered was that you forgot about your troubles and replaced your tears of sorrow with tears of joy.
“No, no. Yoongi!” You chastised him as your laughter subsided. Reaching out for him you pulled him back on the bed, the contact of his frame onto the mattress making you bounce. Suppressing a chuckle he turned towards you, a wide gummy smile taking over his features and you felt your breath hitch and your heart rate speed up. Letting him go before he could feel how clammy your hands had become, you lay down on the bed taking deep breaths to calm your racing heart. “That’s not how the story goes!” Once you felt a bit more control over your own feelings you turned your head towards him. At his incredulous look you let out another round of chuckles.
“You know I am not a good storyteller!” He huffed in annoyance, earning an amused look from you. He couldn’t help but stare at your face, your features enthralling to him; regardless of how disheveled your hair might have been or how splotchy your skin looked from crying. He wanted to memorise every little bit of you. The silence that fell over the two of you felt comfortable, your eyes locked onto each other, you let the calmness of the moment envelop you. This was your safe haven, these moments you got to spend with your best friend.
You reached out for him, his slumped form making it easy for you to pull him lying next to you onto the bed. Once you were certain he was comfortable, you shimmied your way flush against him, your head lying on his chest. Reaching out to play with the strings of his hoodie you yawned his rhythmic heartbeat a relaxing tune. “Tell me another story.”
You felt him protest before he voiced any complaints, the shift of his muscles underneath your head a telltale sign of his discomfort. “You know I am not good with stories.” It was on rare occasions that you heard him whine, however this once in a blue moon occurrence never failed to make your heart melt. “I can write poems, sure. Why do you never ask for a poem?” He threw his free hand in the air in mock desperation.
You burst out in laughter once more, burying your head into his shoulder in an attempt to stifle it. Absorbed in your amusement you completely missed the way Yoongi glanced down at you, as if you put the stars in the sky. In a way, you had. Ever since you became friends, you’d been a light in his life. Your infectious personality immediately drew him in, it didn’t take long for him to realise that he wanted to be part of your life forever. You were the only one he wanted by his side.
“No, no.” You shook your head, the loose strands tickling his chin. Sighing, you lifted your head up for a brief moment to glance at him. The sight of him, eyes closed, a small smile on his face filled your heart with a myriad of feelings you never thought you’d experience throughout the length of your friendship. “Tell me your story.” Yoongi raised his head up to glance down at you, the confusion clear on his face. Sighing, you let your head drop back down on his chest, resuming your finger drawing onto his hoodie.
“How would you tell your story if your story was a fairytale?” You clarified, your heart pounding in your chest. This was new uncharted territory for you, but the thrill of it made your stomach flutter.
All was quiet for a few moments, and you were prepared to repeat your question thinking he hadn’t understood you when he started talking. “Once upon a time, in a land far far away, there lived a Prince.” He ignored your chuckles, choosing to focus on his fingers that wrapped themselves around strands of your hair. “Of course, the Prince is me.” He added confidently earning another round of laughter from you. “This Prince thought he had everything he wanted, what he didn’t realise was that he was missing a best friend.” His arm wrapped around your shoulders, the action bringing you closer to him. “But the fates were kind enough to the Prince and told him that he will be gifted a best friend. Under one condition.” He paused for effect and whether you’d admit it or not your breath hitched in your throat.
“He needed to give up any chance at love.” Yoongi carried on, a slither of sadness slipping into his words. The tears that just subsided threatened to escape the corner of your eyes. You didn’t speak, you didn’t think you could even if you tried. Instead you stayed silent hoping he’d continue. “The Prince immediately agreed, so desperate for a friend that he didn’t think anything of what he was signing himself up for. So, the fates brought someone for the Prince. It was an amazing experience, and the Prince made the most of the friendship, for years and years. Until one day, the Prince realised everyone around him was falling in love. Yet, he felt like he couldn’t afford the same luxury. So,” so enthralled with the story, you clung onto his hoodie making Yoongi smile, “after years of trying to find someone to fall in love with, he remembered the pact he made with the fates. He felt desolate, desperate. Why did everyone have love and he didn’t? For a while he even blamed his best friend.” At his words you gasped, a lone tear trailing down your face. Sniffling you hurriedly wiped it away.
Yoongi’s warm hand cupped your cheek, his thumb brushing over your skin. “ But what the Prince didn’t realise was that the fates had given him the opportunity to save himself. The fates were generous with the Prince, and the Prince was just too stupid to notice.” He chuckled lowly to himself. “He wasn’t falling in love with anyone, because he was already in love.” He chanced a glance at you, your wide eyes rivalling those of a doe.
“He had fallen in love with his best friend, his other half, the only person he’d ever wanted in his life. Seeing her happy was his sole purpose in life. He watched her grow, become the amazing human she is now, and he realised that he wanted to be the only one by her side.” He trailed off, the weight of his admittance finally hitting him. He’d done it. “As you guessed–, I am the Prince and you are my best friend.”
You needed to quickly find your voice to respond to him, you wanted to know the end of the story. You felt selfish, he had been the only one that addressed this, even though you were just as involved as he was. “And? How does the story end?” Your voice was barely above a whisper, the hopeful tone making Yoongi smile. He’s finally understood.
“And then I fell in love with my best friend, and we lived happily ever after.” Yoongi’s hand finally ended its decade-long search, his slender fingers finding the courage like the prince in his story did. Gently, as if even the littlest amount of pressure would cause you to retreat, the tips of his fingers ghosted over your wrist, tracing delicate patterns over the back of your hand. The butterflies in your stomach picked up the pace once more as a surge of bravery made you turn your hand around, completing his journey and interlinking your fingers. Daring to turn your head to look at him, you were certain the rosy blush you could see on his cheeks mirrored yours. Glancing at his lips you licked yours.
“Hey Yoongi.” You whispered, your head tilting up towards him. He hummed in response, his breath brushing over your moist lips. “All stories end with a kiss.” Pressing your lips to his you finally felt your fairytale come to an end. You smirked mischievously at him as you parted. He may have owned your heart, but he was still your best friend. And honesty was your code of honour.
“Just so you know. You’re still shit at telling stories.”

F1 MASTERLIST🏎 | Previous Part | Next Part
From the moment you had accepted that Max’s grid kids were also yours in the process, you had thought that your interactions with them would only be during race weekends. However, when you saw that some drama was already happening even though the season had barely started, you decided that the rookies would become both your on and off track children.
It had begun with Jack.
You had never been Alpine’s biggest fan – you mostly considered Esteban and Pierre as acquaintances during the previous season – and it had gotten worse when Flavio was back in the paddock. Still, you were glad for Jack when it was announced that he would get a full-time seat for the 2025 season – although it was a shit move from Alpine to sack Esteban for the last grand prix of 2024.
The drama had started a bit after Alpine announced their reserve drivers for 2025. First, Paul Aaron. He was a good driver, and had done a good F2 season, despite the insane amount of car issues he had suffered from. Then, Franco Colapinto. Having raced for a third of the 2024 season with Williams, Franco had quickly become a fan favourite due to this charming personality.
The issue wasn’t Alpine having two reserve drivers – it was honestly quite usual. No, the actual issue lay in fans already expecting Jack’s downfall so that Franco could take his place. Everyone was claiming that Jack only had the first five races to prove himself, and then it would be goodbye for him.
Then, it got even worse. Shortly after the New Year, Alpine announced their third reserve driver. You remembered seeing the news and being really surprised because “why do they need so many plans b?” – that’s what you had said to Max, who had agreed and had then proceeded to diss the French team for the next few minutes. And if you thought that they were done, you were wrong because Alpine waited until a few days before the first race of the season to announce their fourth reserve driver.
You truly hoped that Jack wasn’t too stressed about it, but the latest season of Drive To Survive showed you that he definitely was. The scene between Jack and Flavio in the latter’s office had truly scared you, and you couldn’t imagine the amount of pressure they were putting on the Aussie.
It also didn’t help when Jack DNFed at his home race, which led to the fans clearly awaiting the day when Alpine would replace him with Franco. The dinner you had invited him to along with the other rookies had helped, but you knew that it was only temporary comfort until the following races. The next week in China had been a bit better: Jack had finished 13th after the three DSQs, which wasn’t so bad, but you had seen the comments everywhere. ‘Fans’ were still dreaming of Franco taking his seat, not caring one bit about Jack.
You were truly saddened by the situation. Jack didn’t deserve that kind of reaction – no driver did. The only thing he deserved was the opportunity to prove himself, and his full potential couldn’t be seen after two races.
Two. races. were. not. enough.
And yet, it wasn’t Alpine that was currently at the origin of your newly-found anger. No, right now, you were only mad at one team: Red Bull Racing.
You had seen the rumours online. You had heard about them in the paddock. You hadn’t wanted to believe them; they were rumours for a reason. So when Max told you the news before it would be public, you thought he had been messing with you. You had been back in Monaco in your shared flat, when he announced it to you:
“Don’t be mad but…” Max waited for you to look at him before he kept talking. “They’re dropping Liam”.
“What?” Did you hear it well?
“Red Bull”, Max explained. “They’re switching Liam and Yuki.”
“You’re joking?”
“Wish I was, honestly. It’s such a shit decision, but I have no say in this.”
You were kind of glad that even Max wasn’t agreeing with the switch, but it still hurt. You were mad. Mad for Liam. Mad at Red Bull.
“Do they not realise they’re the fucking problem?” You couldn’t help the venom in your tone. “Have been for years. But no, it’s always the driver.”
“I know… Trust me, I wish I could have helped tilt the balance on the other side. Turns out my opinion suddenly doesn’t matter.”
“Shocker”, you sarcastically replied. You knew Max had vouched for Liam to stay; but when his team had decided something, even their star driver apparently didn’t have any right to go against it. “Do they wish to destroy another driver’s career?” You thought about Yuki, with whom you’d been friends for years since he had joined Racing Bulls. “At this home grand prix, that’s fucked up.”
“You know everything Red Bull does is fucked up at this point. That’s like your main take everytime they do something.”
“Am I wrong, though?” You raised an eyebrow at your boyfriend.
“Unfortunately, no.” Max sighed and ran his fingers through his hair. “I guess I won’t see you in my garage in Japan, then?”
“I’m not that much of a bitch, Max. I’ll show up for Yuki, obviously.”
“Obviously”, Max repeated with a chuckle. “You’ll text me which garage I have to collect you from, yeah?”
“You know me so well.” You smiled at him, before pulling him close for a quick kiss. “When are they announcing it?”
“I think some media are confirming it today, but the teams will only post about it starting tomorrow.”
“Does Liam actually know?” This was the dreaded question. You knew Red Bull was bad enough that they were capable of telling him after the entire world was made aware.
“He does, yeah.” Max thought for a second. “Don’t know for sure if they told him before Yuki, but they were decent enough not to let him find out through the internet.”
“I hope so.” You pulled out your phone, your thumb hovering over the messages application. “Is it too early to text him?” You really wanted to show Liam your support, but you were scared that Red Bull had actually been too cowardly to not notify Liam until the very last minute.
“Might be good to wait a couple days”, Max suggested. “He might be home right now, so he’ll probably have his family and friends with him.”
You nodded at Max’s words, agreeing to wait until the information would be out everywhere. Still, you made a mental note to start thinking of what you could eventually do to lift the Aussie's and Kiwi's spirits.
…..
At the end of the week, the whole world had seen the news. Red Bull Racing had definitely swapped Liam with Yuki, deciding that the younger driver had not shown enough potential after only two races.
Trusting yourself, you did what you thought was right and texted Liam as well as Jack. You sent them your address, and offered to have them for dinner that evening. You knew that even though almost the entire grid lived in Monaco, it was actually quite rare for the drivers to hang out. Max, especially, loved to stay home in order to avoid seeing his work friends. However, he was surprisingly glad to have Jack and Liam. Your boyfriend had even helped to cook tonight’s meal, and you were certain the rookies would particularly enjoy this information.
Monaco was a small town, so it didn’t take long for Jack and Liam to arrive at yours. It was known on the grid where each driver lived in the city, but actually seeing where Max lived with their own eyes felt surreal to the young drivers. When you opened the door to see them both awkwardly standing next to one another, it only took one warm smile from you to help them relax. They cautiously followed you inside; admiring every piece of furniture, every picture, Max’s beloved simulator which looked out of place in the living room you had beautifully decorated.
The most surprising thing for Jack and Liam, though, wasn’t the wall full of helmets and trophies nor the silly cushions you had bought with cats’ faces on them. No, it was the shocking view of four-times world champion Max Verstappen who was wearing an apron and currently setting the table.
When he saw you, the loving smile on his face naturally appeared. He then noticed the two rookies behind you and gave them a nod.
“Hi”, he said to them. “Welcome to our home, I guess.”
“Thanks for having us,” Jack replied. “It’s nice here.”
“Yeah”, Liam agreed. He then raised his right hand that had been holding a bag. “Hmm… I brought dessert?”
“Oh, you shouldn’t have!” You exclaimed. “That’s so sweet of you, Liam.”
You took a large box out of the bag, and barely had time to put it on the table that another box got put down right next to it.
“We had the same idea”, Jack stated. “We didn’t buy the same thing, though. Had time to compare when we were in the lift.”
“You guys are so nice, thank you so much!”
Quickly opening each box, you saw that Liam had brought chocolate muffins while Jack had brought profiteroles. You let yourself out to the kitchen in order to put the boxes in the fridge, which meant that the drivers were now alone in the living room.
Safe to say, the atmosphere was quite awkward. There wasn’t any tension per say, but it wasn’t everyday that Max had people from his workplace at home. Remembering what he was wearing, Max looked down at his outfit and swiftly removed his apron.
“Yeah… hmm, sorry… you guys can sit down if you want. It’s almost ready.”
Jack and Liam thanked him with a nod, before they both pulled out the closest chair to them.
“Dinner is ready indeed, but everyone’s washing their hands before we eat please.” You had just come back to the living room. Your tone wasn’t harsh, but commanding enough that no one would disobey – exactly like a mother.
You made sure that everyone, including your boyfriend, had now washed their hands before leading them back to the table. You asked Max to bring the food there, which he did. Together, you had prepared lasagna as well as some potatoes to go with it.
You served the drivers, who all thanked you with a smile. You and Max were sitting next to each other, with Jack and Liam facing you both. You then all began to eat in a comfortable silence.
“Thanks again for having us,” Liam eventually said. “Food’s really good by the way.”
“It is”, Jack agreed with a nod.
“Max is a good cook, right?” You chuckled before offering them seconds, which they gladly accepted.
“Guess I have a plan b if racing doesn't work out,” Max claimed with a shrug. “Can't say that it's really going well recently.”
“We said no work talk, remember?” You reminded him while serving the rookies. “Tonight is supposed to be about anything but your jobs.”
“It’s fine, honestly.”
“Yeah, Jack’s right. If anything, better to talk about it with y’all than anyone else,” Liam added.
“Sure?” You wondered. They both nodded, which reassured you. “Well, if you don’t mind talking about work then I guess we can do so after dinner while racing.”
“Racing?” Liam and Jack repeated.
“Y’all know how to play F1 24?” You asked them, to which they positively answered. “Then yes, racing.”
Exchanging a glance, the two drivers in front of you were now even happier to be there. A proud smile made its way on your face, glad to have your boys in a good mood.
Dinner finished quickly enough after light-hearted chats. You learnt more about Jack’s and Liam’s childhood, while they asked you questions about your and Max’s relationship. They were really enjoying their time with you – even more than with Max – and loved getting to know you outside the track.
While the drivers were moving from the dining table to the sofas in front of the massive TV that adorned the wall, you went back to the kitchen to retrieve the desserts. When you came back, Max was giving controllers to Liam and Jack before he turned the game on.
Obviously not caring about you being here, Max left the racing mode on ‘expert mode’ which clearly wouldn’t bother the other drivers present. As expected, he chose to play himself. You let Liam select Lewis while Jack selected Oscar, before it was your turn. You picked Charles as you often did, and now it was actually time to race.
As usual when you played with Max, you didn’t do great. After a couple races, Liam and Jack realised that dating a world champion didn’t mean that you had gained his driving skills. So they decided to tone it down, and let you overtake them during the next race. You hadn’t noticed, simply thinking that this track wasn’t their favourite. Max, however, immediately realised what was going on.
“You shouldn’t let her win”, he told them while taking a quick bite from his muffin. “She’s used to losing, don’t worry about her.”
“Fuck you, Max.” You threw a cushion to his face, which didn’t even affect him as he still crossed the finish line in first position.
“You’re like the worst boyfriend ever, mate. I think my girl would kill me if I didn’t let her win from time to time,” Liam explained with a chuckle.
“What?” Max turned to Liam, a serious and intimidating look now on his face.
“I– I mean, not the worst of course!” Liam was scared he had joked about the wrong thing, and tried to take back his words. “You’re the racing driver so… yeah, makes sense you’re better than her.”
“I’m kidding, Liam.” Max simply said. “God, you’re easy to pressure.”
“And you are actually the worst”. Putting down your controller, you took a profiterole and faced the rookies. “Please don’t let him scare you or some shit like that, he’s literally just a silly nerd. If anything, be the ones to intimidate him. I’ll teach you both his weaknesses.”
“I’ll ban you from my garage”, Max retorted.
“Great, I didn’t even wanna be there anyways.”
“I’ll ban you from the paddock”, Max added.
“Then I’ll date another driver who’ll give me access and overrule you”. You innocently smiled at your boyfriend, knowing that he wouldn’t manage to get the upper hand back.
“I’ll run him off track and he won’t be able to race anymore.”
“I’ll join the FIA and give you stop-and-go penalties.”
As they had been sitting between the two of you, Jack and Liam could only watch the exchange between you and Max as if it were a tennis match. They were deeply entertained, and one thought was certainly shared between them: they would definitely side with you against Max, no matter the situation.
Max was their grid mum on track. But you were their grid mum off track, and that was worth so much more to them. If Liam and Jack had been nervous to come spend the evening here, all their worries had now completely disappeared.
If anything, they could even pretend to still be bothered about what was happening to them in the Formula 1 world, just so they could spend more moments like this one. They wouldn’t need to, though. Even without the excuse of wanting to distract them and lift their spirits, you would still invite them to dinner the next day, before offering them a ride on Max’s plane as if it was yours – it kind of was, according to Max who deemed everything he owned as your possession too.
So when the four of you would arrive together in Japan, the other rookies might be jealous. They might ask Liam and Jack about how they pulled it off, and maybe the two would agree in telling a little white lie just so they would gatekeep the family time they spent with you and Max.
And it would eventually become a competition as a joke: who would be able to get the most time with their grid parents?
..........
Hope y'all enjoyed it!! Y'all cannot imagine how mad i was when the devil (rbr) switched liam and yuki - actually you kinda can bc i posted ab it lol
But i fr hate that they only give liam 2 races to prove himself like THAT'S😭NO😭ENOUGH😭 and for jack, well i saw that oliver oakes confirmed they ain't getting rid of him + plan of having him for the whole season but they aren't giving him enough love imo - like why tf y'all have 4 reserve drivers
Anywayyys i acc have no idea whether liam was made aware of the switch before it went public but let's pretend rbr ain't bitches
Don't hesitate to like or reblog if you liked this<3 and don't be shy to leave a comment so i can know your thoughts as well :))
See you soon, take care of yourselves, i love y'all xx
hiya, i have no idea if you do requests but i have a very brief and simple idea, which you can do your own take on - overly sensitive reader is dating oscar piastri & people are bothering her online but she doesn't tell oscar, instead she hides it and acts like she's fine but one night, she's in bed with him but then moves out to the living room & she's reading people's posts and messages about her not deserving him and she just sobs her eyes out, very quietly, thinking he's asleep - but he's not and he hears her, he walks out to the sight of her crying,,, then you can do whatever you want! just basically a hurt/comfort fic idea :) thank you!
𝒏ote , hi nonnie! thank you so much for requesting this. im convinced he is the sweetest sweetest bf and this thought goes so well with him . . .
fem!reader x oscar piastri. established relationship. hurt -> comfort. fluff. insecure!reader. mean online comments.
you knew better.
you knew better than to look. you knew better than to click on the notifications, the comments, the threads where strangers, bold and faceless, tore you apart like it cost them nothing.
you know it’s not true. these people don’t you. they don’t really know oscar. they don’t know anything about your relationship. and you knew better than to give them so much power over you, but you did it anyway.
it felt like a constant in your night routine at this point. after the steady rise and fall of oscar’s chest tells you he’s surrendered to sleep, you slip quietly from the bed.
you try to convince yourself you’re just stretching your legs, grabbing some water, anything to justify the gnawing pull toward your phone, toward the weight you tuck away during the day but can’t seem to ignore when it’s dark and that inner voice manages to convince you to look.
you curl up on the couch, wrapped in one of his hoodies that still smells faintly like him, like the smell of your safe space can wrap around you and stop the words from piercing as deep as they always do.
“he could have anyone and he settles for that?”
“you can’t convince me she’s there for anything but the money”
“he could do way better”
“why do the best guys always tend to settle for the most basic, gold digging girls”
one after another they appear on the screen. picking apart your body, your intelligence, your motives.
you don’t even realize you’re crying until the drops fall on the screen. little blots of water smearing and obstructing the words that had already twisted like knives in your chest.
you know you should turn it off. climb into bed and let oscar cuddle away all the insecurities gnawing at your chest. but it feels like you’re stuck. like if you just read one more comment, maybe you’ll find one that makes it all make sense, one that explains why you feel like you’ll never be enough for him.
you flinch when a familiar hand gently closes over yours, steady and warm, taking the phone from you. you hadn’t even heard him come in.
you don’t move, don’t blink, don’t breathe as he scrolls through the comments himself, brow furrowing more and more the further he goes.
after a few minutes he locks the phone and discards it on the table, settling next to you and pulling you onto his lap.
“you know none of it is true right?” he mumbles against your head, pressing a kiss to your temple and you sniffle
“osc—” you go to argue but he interrupts
“no” he says, the word so blunt and direct it catches you so off guard for a second that you pull your head away from his chest to look at him
“i’m not gonna sit here and listen to you justify what they’re saying. they don’t know you. they don’t know me. and they sure as shit don’t know anything about our relationship” he says, shaking his head slightly at the utter ridiculousness of what he just read.
“but it’s true. i’m not perfect and you could do so much bet—“ you mumble but he interrupts you again before you get the chance to finish, this time with his lips on yours, kissing you until those thoughts float away and the only thing you can focus on is the way his hand is running through your hair
“you’re perfect with me, to me, and for me. hell perfect doesn’t even begin to describe you baby. you’re everything. you’re all I want. the only way these people have any power over you is if you actually believe there’s some truth to what they’re saying. do you?” oscar asks, holding your jaw so you can’t look away from him.
“are you only with me for the money? the attention?” oscar asks, raising his eyebrows dramatically in a way that makes you wanna laugh and by the slight tilt in his lips, he knows.
“no” you say softly and he gasps in mock surprise
“really? I for sure thought you were” he teases and laughs when you hit him playfully.
“i’m just kidding baby. you hate attention even more than I do and you practically tackle me every time I try to pay for anything. and if you think for even one second that I don’t believe you’re the sexiest woman in the world, you come tell me and I’ll prove you wrong, yeah?” he says, pressing kiss after kiss against your temple, your cheek, your nose, your jaw, your lips. every inch he can reach.
“I love you” you say softly, hoping your gratitude for him shines through in your tone.
“I love you the most,” he murmurs back, no hesitation, no doubt. just the pure, simple truth.
his hands gently frame your face, thumbs brushing away the last of your tears with a tenderness that makes your chest ache all over again, but in a different way this time. a softer way.
“let’s go to bed,” he says, voice thick with exhaustion and affection as he picks you up and carries you to the bedroom, leaving your phone and all the negativity on it right there on the table.
awww its soo cute

A/N: my first time doing a fic on tumblr 😔🤚🏻
His wound was healing faster than the doctors had expected, and Jang Hanseo found out playing dead wasn’t as fun as it seemed in the movies.
He had to deal with watching from afar as Babel Group descended into chaos, without a Chairman or Vice; all his subordinates were at each other’s throats for the seat.
Then he remembered his wish, that he could run the company on his own without the scar of needless death. That he would not run Babel the way his older half brother did.
Through this mental storm, a clearing came in the clouds as Hanseo found the perfect candidate for the next Babel CEO.
“ Me?” You nearly exclaimed, but kept it low for your ex-boss’s sake. You were one of the few who knew that Hanseo was alive, and was not hoping to keep it that way. You wanted him to reveal himself and return to his position of power- but he said he didn’t want anything to do with it anymore. Not after everything that happened to him.
You knew better than to pry into someone’s personal business- especially if they used to be your boss- but something was different about Jang Hanseo.
How he walked like he was always being watched, the way his hands tremble when someone touches him the slightest and how his eyes shine in the smallest of praises.
“ Er- yes, you.” He confirmed, still sitting upright in his hospital bed, his hair a bit messy from tossing and turning in his sleep.
You found out he was alive by accident.
You were visiting your friend who worked in the same hospital to gift them something in advance for their birthday. As you walked past the patient rooms, you spotted the notorious Hong Chayoung you saw in the news. Intrigued, you tailed her until she entered a private luxury room that had no other than Jang Hanseo lying inside.
He screamed as you did as well. Noticing how much of a panic he fell into, you took pity and sympathized with him. Although he was now nothing like the man you had once worked under.
You didn’t know how to reply, and wasn’t sure what was appropriate to ask or say. Sucking in a deep breath, you smiled warmly and gave a curt bow. “ Thank you, Mr. Jang.”
He broke out into a gummy smile, a hand waving away the honorifics. “ It’s Hanseo, I’m not your boss anymore.”
From then on, fabricating a not-so-fake will, you took on Babel Group and started a new era as you reigned profits back in. It was harder than it looked, as you spent restless nights up without a wink of sleep.
Although through all this chaos, you still found time to visit Hanseo time to time, updating him on the company and buying him snacks.
You noticed even if you did the tiniest things- like the first time you brought in a bungeoppang you had purchased from a street vendor outside- his mood would instantly light up, his smile rivaling the brightness of the sun. He acted like you had just eradicated all his debt or something, and as confused as you were, you found it endearing. You had no idea your ex-boss was so, so cute.
Childlike wonder filled his eyes whenever he talked about his Vinny hyung or Chayoung noona, speaking just like how a little boy would ramble on about Superman.
Before you knew it, your heart was racing every time you approached his hospital room; knocking on the door was nerve wracking as you tried to keep your emotions under wraps.
That was, until, he pulled this.
You weren’t able to buy a snack this time around, as your schedule was too tight to even go slightly out of line.
Hanseo could tell you were tired, recalling his old memories as the puppet Chairman. The way you ran your hand through your hair, biting the inside of your cheek as you constantly took in deep sighs.
Months had flown and Hanseo felt so attached to you he decided he would tell the truth about everything. What happened on the night he “died”, how he was so close to that Consigliere and what his past with the late Hanseok was.
His body shivered as he spoke candidly, as if he was reliving the past in this very moment. Suddenly, arms wrapped around his waist, bringing him into a hug. You patted his back softly in a soothing rhythm.
“ You are so strong, Hanseo.” Was the first thing you had whispered to him through his subsiding tears.
Soon those sobs turned to silent cries and those cries faded into hiccups that transformed into an angelic laugh. A weight was released from his shoulders as he absorbed every comforting praise you threw his way.
Later, you had to let go of him, straightening out his blanket until his fingers weaved into a hold to yours.
“ Could- could you, stay? Longer?” He piped up, only to fall into the abyss of another panic. “ A little while! You don’t have to, I mean. I know you’re really busy with the company- which I kind of forced on you to be honest- and I’m so sorry for- mMH!”
Your lips were instinctively drawn to his, as if it lured you in.
Eyes widening in shock, blood rushed to his face as it colored his adorable face red. He melted into the kiss. Placing a hand on your face, he silently begged you to deepen the kiss as his heart pounded loudly in his chest. His heartbeat being the rhythm to the melody your lips had made, hands threading through hair and tunes spiraling out of mouths.
Seconds passed and you both parted for air, panting in the now tense atmosphere. You easily broke the said awkwardness as you whispered:
“ Don’t ever apologize, my prince.”
BONUS:
“ And- and then I got kiSSED!” Hanseo exclaimed to Vincenzo, who smiled warmly at his excited tone and gestures.
“ I’m proud of you, Hanseo.” He said, patting his shoulder as the younger grinned. “ Hopefully I’ll meet this lover of yours soon.” Vincenzo remarked, fiddling with the curtains of the hospital room. Hanseo’s gaze found itself focusing on the engagement ring that his hyung wore. His overactive imagination then wondered how it would be like to propose to you, to place a ring on your finger, to marry you, to-
Snapping out of his trance, he quickly replied. “ Me too, Vinny Hyung.” Not shying away from the lovesick look that had taken over his face, he stared down into his fidgeting hands. “ Prince...” He then mumbled under his breath, not wanting to say it loud enough for anyone else to hear.
This would be his own memory to keep- even from his dear hyung- that you had whispered into his ear, calling him your prince.

lewis hamilton x !sister reader
hamilton reader x max verstappen
ayana hamilton, the younger sister of seven-time world champion lewis hamilton, has seemingly achieved everything she could ever desire— a successful career as a music producer and artist, been all around the world, has a supportive family and a loving husband—however, that’s a secret that no one, not even her brother, knows about—her husband is also an f1 driver. lewis has always made it his mission to prevent ayana from dating a driver— but is it technically considered dating if they are married? ;)
fc: tyla ! 🌸
(sza will be used as ayana’s best friend so when i say solana— our queen miss sza)
thank you to @babygirl-4986 for the idea for this series and i am so excited to write for you guys :)

vegas grand prix 2024
mercedes 1-2– as a little sister I am beaming with excitement for lewis but a part of me is wondering where max is after getting p5. i knew how hard he could be on himself sometimes. he was still leading the championship but it seemed as if that wasn’t enough sometimes. i stood in the crowd next to my best friend, solana, she was the only one who knew about max and i, she had been with me through everything. i have actually been trying to set her up with lewis for the longest time— they are both oblivious to my actions but maybe one day it would work. i took out my phone to start recording as george walked out first, i began cheering for him and waved to him— he smiled down and waved back. lewis came out next with a proud smile on his face and I cheered extra loud and solana blew him a kiss in which he returned and he waved at me. the british national anthem began and before you knew it there was champagne all over the place. i grabbed solana’s hand and we made our way through the huge crowd, stopping to take some photos with fans. as we made it through the crowd, i reached for my phone to text max.
how are you doing my love? where are uuu?
I slipped my phone into my back pocket as Lewis approached us. I reached out and wrapped my arms around him and he gave me a squeeze. He pressed a gentle kiss on my temple.
“I’m so proud of you, Lew. Always. You did amazing out there.” I said and he let go of me with a smile.
“I always do better when my wonderful sister is here to cheer me on..and her beautiful best friend.” He states and turned to Solana pulling her into a big hug, a light blush settling on her face.
“And what are you lovely ladies up to for the rest of the night?” Lewis asked and Solana shrugs my way.
“Honestly, not sure.” She said and Lewis smiled.
“How about some drinks?” He asked as I reached for my phone.
doing ok, schat. would be better if I could see that beautiful face.
“You guys go, have fun. I’ll catch up later, I just have some business to handle.” I said with a smile and Solana gave me a knowing look.
“Alright, see you later, be safe please.” Lewis said with a quick side hug.
“Of course, love you guys.” I said and sent them both a smile.
meet me in the lot in five angel
on my way pretty girl
I started walking to his car rather quickly, thankfully fans could not get in this area so we were able to be alone for a moment. I leaned against the sleek black SUV, the cool desert night brushing against my skin. I spotted Max a few feet away, dressed down in a black hoodie and some jeans. He approached me with a small smile, wrapping his arms around my waist, mine reaching around his neck.
“I swear every time I see you all my problems just fade, schat. Your beauty makes me forget everything.” He hummed with a love drunk smile upon his face.
“I feel the same way about you, my love.” I say pulling him into a soft kiss that lasted for a few moments.
“Marry me.” He murmured. I pulled back, stunned, slightly in shock.
“What did you say? Max are you drunk?” I ask and he chuckled slightly.
“No, Liefde. Let’s get married, right here, right now.” He stated again and I smiled at him.
“Let’s get you to the hospital. Did you hit your head getting out of the car?” I ask and he takes my hand.
“Mooi meisje, just listen to me. You are the one for me, I have known that since you walked into my life. Everyday I look forward to getting up to be with you and spend the day with you. Normally with a P5 result, I’d be sitting, sulking and thinking about what I could have done better but today I didn’t care— I don’t need to race— I don’t need the championships but I do need you— you’re the love of my life, yana.” He stated and I feel tears start to well in my eyes.
“Max, I-I love you so much. I need you.” I said wrapping my arms around him extra tight, I feel him squeeze my waist.
“So marry me, Yana. You’ll have me forever.” He whispered.
“Okay, let’s do it.” I said with a huge smile and Max lifted me up in the air. He pressed the biggest kiss to my lips. He pulled a small red box out of his sweatshirt and popped it open. I gasped slightly at the beautiful ring and he took the ring out gently and reached for my hand. He left a kiss across my knuckles and gently slid the ring onto my finger. It was absolutely stunning— everything I could’ve wanted in a ring.
“I know this isn’t the most ideal place for this but I could marry you while standing inside of a dumpster and I would still be overjoyed and we can always have a ceremony later-“ I interrupted his rambling by placing my hand on his cheek.
“Max— this is perfect. I don’t care how it happens as long as I get to spend forever with you.” I said and he smiled.
“Now let’s go get married, champion.” I teased and he hurriedly opened the car door for me and rushed to the drivers side.
—
I had changed into one of Max’s hoodies and put on a hat and some larger frame sunglasses. Everyone in the city is either drunk or too distracted from the race but it’s best to be safe. Max had pulled his hoodie over his head and also threw some sunglasses on. He held my hand and looked over at me.
“You really sure about this, Verstappen?” I teased lightly biting my lip.
“I’ve never been more sure about anything, schat.” He said rubbing my knuckles.
“Let’s go then.” I said and hopped out of the car. He came around and wrapped his arm around my waist as we made it inside the chapel. The neon lights flickering above us. It smelled faintly of roses and old wood. The lady at the desk shot us a quick smile.
“Here to get hitched, lovebirds?” She asked as she stood. We stared at each other for a second before nodding.
“Come with me.” She states and led us into the actual chapel. There was a man stood at the end of the short aisle who gave us a sweet smile.
“Mind if we trade your hat out for this?” The lady asked and offered me a veil, I look towards max and he nodded with a smile.
“I think we can do that.” I said and took off my hat and she helped fit the veil into my hair. Max smiled at me and took my hands into his.
“I suppose we are ready now.” The officiant said with a big smile.
“Names?” He asked.
“Ayana Hamilton.” I said and he nodded looking towards Max.
“Max. Max Verstappen.” He nodded and smiled to himself.
“Do you, Ayana Hamilton, take Max Verstappen to be your lawfully wedded husband?” He asked and I nodded.
“I do.”
“And do you, Max Verstappen, take Ayana Hamilton to be your lawfully wedded wife?” He asked.
His eyes never left mine. “I do.”
“By the power vested in me, in the state of Nevada, I now pronounce you both husband and wife. Max, you may kiss your bride.” He said with a smile and Max grabbed my waist and pulled me into a long passionate kiss. It wasn’t rushed, it wasn’t hungry, it was soft and sweet.
We stumbled out of the chapel laughing, my hand wrapped tight in his. The Vegas Strip roared around us, but in that moment, it felt like the world had gone silent.
“You realize Lewis is going to kill me when he finds out, right?” Max said, chuckling as he pulled me into his arms.
I grinned, resting my forehead against his chest. “Maybe. But you’ll survive. You’re a world champion, remember?”
He tilted my chin up, kissing me again like he had something to prove. “Now I’m the champion of something even better.”

present day / max and ayana’s apartment
The late afternoon sun poured through the windows of our Monaco apartment, casting a warm, golden glow over the hardwood floors. I sat cross-legged on the bed, half-folded clothes scattered around me in a chaotic mess. Max leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed, watching me with an amused smile tugging at the corner of his lips.
“You’re packing like we’re moving across the world, not like you’re just spending four days with Lewis,” he teased, nodding toward the three overstuffed suitcases.
I tossed a hoodie at him. “It’s not just four days. It’s Lewis. You know how he is — there will be fancy dinners, training sessions, impromptu yacht trips. I have to be prepared for anything.”
Max caught the hoodie with one hand, laughing. He crossed the room in a few steps and sat down beside me, plucking a pair of sunglasses from my pile and perching them on my head. “You’re gonna miss me,” he said, mock-sulking.
I looked at him over the rim of the sunglasses. “Of course I’m gonna miss you,” I said, pushing them up into my hair. “Who else is going to steal my snacks and hog the blanket at 3 AM?”
He chuckled, reaching out to tuck a loose curl behind my ear. “You know you could just stay,” he murmured, teasing but a little serious too.
I leaned into his touch for a second, then grinned. “If I cancel on Lewis now, he’ll definitely figure out we’ve been married for a year and didn’t tell him.”
Max groaned dramatically, flopping backward onto the bed. “Still can’t believe we’ve kept it a secret this long. You’re a terrible liar, Ayana.”
“And yet, here we are,” I said proudly, zipping one of the suitcases shut.
He reached out and grabbed my hand, tugging me down onto the bed beside him. I landed with a soft laugh, my hair spilling across his chest. He looked down at me, blue eyes soft, thumb tracing lazy circles over the back of my hand.
“I’m proud of you, you know,” he said quietly. “For everything — the tour, the music, surviving this crazy world… and for still picking me.”
My chest squeezed a little at the tenderness in his voice. “Always you, Max.”
—
After I finally managed to wrestle the last suitcase shut, Max stood and stretched, looking all too innocent. Too casual.
I narrowed my eyes. “What are you doing?”
“Nothing,” he said, way too quickly.
Suspicious.
But I let it go. For now. I tugged my duffel bag onto the bed, double-checking I had my headphones, my laptop, my chargers — the essentials. Max wandered over, slipping his arms around my waist from behind and resting his chin on my shoulder.
“Promise you’ll call me every night?” he said, voice dropping to that soft, boyish tone he only ever used with me.
I smiled, resting my hands on his. “You act like I’m going away for a year, not four days.”
“Still too long,” he mumbled.
I twisted around and kissed him quickly. “I’ll call. Pinky swear.”
He grinned against my mouth, stealing one more kiss before finally letting me go. I grabbed my bag and headed for the door, tossing a “Love you!” over my shoulder.
Max winked. “Love you more.”

later that night
Lewis, Solana and I had just arrived at the Beach House. I was always insistent on unpacking as soon as we get to the destination. No— before you ask; I am not sure if Solana and Lewis are together. I invited her on this quick trip and Lewis is always willing to have her.
I was digging through my duffel bag, looking for my spare phone charger when my fingers brushed against something unfamiliar.
Frowning, I pulled it out — a small, folded piece of paper with Max’s handwriting scribbled across it.
“For when you miss me too much.”
Taped to it was one of his racing gloves — the very one he wore during the Vegas GP last year, the night we got married.
My throat tightened, emotions bubbling up too fast. Inside the note, he’d written:
“You’re my best win. Always have been, always will be. Come home soon, Mrs. Verstappen.”
I clutched the glove to my chest, a wide, stupid grin breaking across my face.
“Yana-“ Lewis said as he entered the room and I quickly tucked the glove in my suitcase.
“What’s up?” I turned around with a smile.
He gave me a confused but big smile.
“They have dinner prepared for us on the beach, whenever you’re ready.” He said and I nodded.
“I’m just going to get changed and I’ll be out.” I said and he nodded.
“Thank you, Lew. For the trip.” I said and he reached out for a hug.
“Of course, no one else I’d rather have with me.” He said and left the room.
I pulled out my phone and sent a quick text.
got your surprise, mr verstappen. you made me cry. i miss you and love you so much.
you’ll be back in no time, my beautiful wife. enjoy your time with your brother. call me when you can, schat. i love you even more
I smiled and plugged my phone in. I quickly changed into a sundress and slipped on some sandals. I added a few pieces of jewelry and left the room. Lewis was standing behind the counter in the kitchen as Solana stood across the counter from him as she was showing him tik toks— he finally got the app he just doesn’t understand the humor yet.
“Showing Gramps how to use Tik Tok?” I questioned with a smirk and they both smiled at me.
“Mmm girl you look so good..” Solana reached out her hand and spun me around.
“So do you, my love.” I said and she smiled.
“Well beautiful ladies, shall we?” Lewis asked motioning towards the beach.
“We shall.” Solana said and we all started walking towards the beach.
—
next day
I was sat out on the balcony, having my morning call with Max.
“How are Jimmy and Sassy?” I ask and he smiles before pointing the camera at the two cats who are snuggled together.
“Precious babies.” I murmured with a smile.
“They get it from their mother.” Max said and I chucked.
“Unfortunately I do have a meeting and some training to do so I have to go but enjoy your day and I will talk to you tonight, okay? I love you so much.” Max said and I smiled giving him a small wave.
“Love you more.” I said ending the FaceTime.
“Good morning, Mrs. Verstappen.” Solana joked as she pulled open the sliding door and handed me a juice.
“Not too loud now.” I said and chuckled.
“You both are so cute it makes me sick.” She said taking a seat next to me.
“I appreciate it and I appreciate you helping to keep it on the low. You are like one of the only people I can trust.” I state leaning into her shoulder. She leaned her head on top of mine.
“I always got you, boo. Forever.” She says with a smile.
—
The sun was sinking low over the water, casting a soft orange glow across the beach. I lay sprawled out on a lounge chair, toes buried in the warm sand, a half-finished book resting on my chest. Roscoe was asleep in the sand beside me, head resting on my leg
Lewis plopped down beside me with his usual lack of grace, sending a small spray of sand and water onto my towel.
“Nice, Lew,” I said, brushing it off and giving him a look.
He grinned like a kid caught sneaking cookies before dinner. “You needed a little excitement. You’ve been way too chill lately.”
I rolled my eyes, but I couldn’t hide my smile. “Maybe I’m finally learning to relax.”
“Doubt it,” he teased, stretching out beside me. “But hey, you have been different lately. Happier. Calmer. It’s good.”
I glanced at him over my sunglasses. “You saying I was a nightmare before?”
He laughed, tossing a grape up into the air and catching it in his mouth. “Not a nightmare. Just…intense. Always working, always moving. It’s nice to see you actually taking time for yourself.”
I tucked my arms behind my head, feeling the warm breeze drift over us. Lewis had a point — for once. Things with Max had changed me in ways I hadn’t even realized until now. But Lewis, blissfully unaware, just thought I was finally taking better care of myself.
“Guess I just figured out what matters,” I said lightly, smiling at the horizon.
Lewis nodded, not prying for once. “Whatever it is, keep it up. You deserve to be happy, Yana.”
He nudged my foot with his. “Also, when are you dropping that new album? You’ve been teasing it for months.”
I laughed. “Soon. You’ll get the first copy. I might even sign it for you, if you’re lucky.”
He gave me a dramatic bow from his lounge chair. “An honor, Miss Hamilton.”
We both cracked up, the easy, familiar laughter filling the air like it always had when we were kids. No pressure. No cameras. Just a brother and a sister, a beach, and the feeling that everything — at least for today — was exactly how it was supposed to be.
—
tonight was a big reason we are on this trip— Lewis, Solana and I were going to make a few drinks at a local bar in the middle of the city to promote his new non alcoholic tequila brand.
The tiny bar was packed, the air buzzing with laughter, music, and the clink of glasses. Fairy lights strung up across the ceiling gave the whole place a warm, golden glow. Somewhere in the back, a DJ was spinning laid-back tracks, and every table was decorated with little cards featuring Almave — Lewis’ new tequila brand.
“Alright, team,” Lewis said, clapping his hands behind the bar like we were about to run a full Michelin-star service. “We’ve got three goals tonight: pour good drinks, have fun, and make my tequila look like the greatest thing to ever happen to planet Earth.”
I laughed, tying an apron around my waist. “You’re lucky Sol and I love you, because this is not what I thought I’d be doing on vacation.”
Solana leaned over the bar with a wink. “Girl, we are the party. Plus, free drinks.”
Lewis threw an arm around each of us, grinning wide. “Exactly. The dream team.”
We got to work, pouring shots, shaking cocktails, and posing for selfies with fans who couldn’t believe Lewis Hamilton, Ayana and SZA were bartending in a random coastal bar. Every so often, Lewis would dramatically present a bottle of his tequila with both hands like it was a sacred relic.
“Only the finest!” he announced to a group of guys at the bar, pouring them shots with a flourish.
Meanwhile, Solana mixed up a custom cocktail she invented on the spot — something fruity and spicy — and by the second round, she had people lining up to try it.
I handled the crowd like a pro, sliding drinks down the bar, laughing when one almost toppled off the edge. “First one’s free if you can catch it!” I called, making the bar explode in cheers.
Every few minutes, Lewis would bump his shoulder into mine, and Sol would lean over to crack a joke, and it felt… normal. No paparazzi, no pressure. Just us, doing something wild and silly because we could.
At one point, Lewis grabbed the mic by the DJ booth. “Big thanks to everyone for coming out tonight! And remember,” he said, holding up a glass, “life’s too short to drink bad tequila. Cheers!”
The whole bar roared back in a toast, and we clinked glasses behind the counter, grinning like idiots.
Later, as the crowd started to thin and the neon signs flickered a little softer, Solana leaned her head on my shoulder and sighed happily.
“Tell me why this is one of the best nights I’ve had in forever,” she said.
I smiled, wiping down the bar. “Because it’s not about the tequila. It’s about us.”
Lewis slung an arm around both of us again, his face flushed from laughing so much. “Nah, it’s definitely the tequila,” he said with a wink.
And for the first time in a long while, I realized just how lucky we were — messy, chaotic, ridiculous — but lucky all the same.

The front door clicked softly behind me as I stepped inside, the familiar scent of cedarwood and fresh linen wrapping around me like a hug. My suitcase thudded quietly on the floor, but before I could even call out, I heard footsteps — quick, eager — from the hallway.
Max appeared, barefoot and in sweatpants, hair messy like he’d just rolled out of bed even though it was early evening. His whole face lit up the second he saw me, and the ache of missing him hit me all at once.
“You’re home,” he said, voice low and full of relief.
I barely had time to nod before he crossed the room in three quick strides, sweeping me into his arms. I dropped my bag and wrapped myself around him, breathing him in — the faint scent of his cologne, the comfort of home.
“I missed you,” I mumbled into his shoulder.
He pulled back just enough to look at me, his blue eyes so soft it made my chest tighten. “You have no idea how much.”
He kissed me — slow, lingering, like he was making up for every second we’d been apart. I melted into him, smiling against his mouth.
When we finally broke apart, he brushed a strand of hair behind my ear and whispered, “No more trips without me.”
I laughed, trailing my fingers lightly over his jaw. “Tell that to my brother next time he drags me on a ‘bonding adventure.’”
Max chuckled, pressing another kiss to my forehead. “Deal. Next time, I’ll just come with you. Hide in your suitcase if I have to.”
He reached for my duffel, slinging it effortlessly over his shoulder with one hand and threading our fingers together with the other.
“Come on,” he said, tugging me toward the living room. “I made your favorite — pizza and that terrible show you love.”
“My terrible show is a masterpiece,” I corrected with a grin.
“Right, right,” he said, squeezing my hand. “Masterpiece.”
We curled up together on the couch, my legs thrown over his lap, his arm tucked firmly around my waist like he couldn’t bear to let go. The TV played in the background, but all I could focus on was the steady rhythm of his heartbeat under my cheek.

600 followers celebration
You were visiting Max’s sister, Victoria and her family, during summer vacation. Spending a few weeks away on the beach with family was your perfect idea of a break. Mornings were slow and the days were long, but in the right way. While you and Victoria enjoyed sunbathing, Max and Joris spent time playing with the kids in the water. While it warms your heart seeing Max interact with his niece and nephews, you’d be remiss to not say there was a part of you that yearned for more.
Over the course of the couple years you and Max have been dating, the talk of children and the future definitely was a topic of conversation more than once. Given Max’s career and the constant travel, there was a mutual understanding that having kids was something to be put on the back burner for the time being. And, you understood why. But, the want has always been something that’s flashed through your mind more than once– especially when you see him around his sister’s kids.
“What’s on your mind?” Victoria says, pulling you out of your deep thoughts.
“Well, what isn’t at this point?” You reply with a small chuckle. Victoria smiles at you knowingly. Ever since you started dating Max you had become instant best friends with Victoria. She’s become the sister you never had.
“How did you and Joris know it was the right time?” You ask after a moment of silence. Victoria tilts her head inquisitively. She follows your line of sight which is on Max who is holding one of his nephews splashing around in the water. She nods in quiet understanding, knowing what you’re implying.
“Well,” she begins, turning to face you more, “there really isn’t a “right” time, honestly. There’s always going to be something coming up in life but you just go with the flow, I guess.”
You turn to look at her, your brow furrowed in thought.
“To be frank, even after our third, there was still that apprehension but once the baby’s here, everything falls into place.” Victoria continues, now shifting her gaze to her husband and kids.
As the words sink in, your yearning for a family grows. Having a family of your own has been a dream of yours forever and the more time you spend with Max, the more the desire grows. And it’s not out of your own selfishness per se, rather it’s out of the love you have for Max. You know he’d be a great father, especially with the amount of love he has for you, you can only imagine that would double, even triple towards a baby.
“Talk to him, you might be on the same page even more than you thought.” Victoria urges you. If there’s one person who knows Max more than you, it’s his own sister. And, she would never steer either of you wrong.
Later that night, after dinner and after everyone has turned in for the night, the conversation you had with Victoria earlier is still swimming in your mind.
Max notices your pensive expression as you stand at the bathroom sink washing your face. He walks up behind you and lays a kiss to the crown of your head as his arms come to wrap around your waist. For a moment, the two of you stand there in a domestic bliss. It’s now or never, you think.
“Can we have a baby?” You blurt out as you finish patting your face dry with a towel. Your eyes meet Max’s in the mirror as he raises his eyebrows in surprise by your straightforwardness. His mouth opens, almost as if to say something but you turn around to face him, your back now up against the sink counter.
“I know we’ve talked about it before and that with racing and everything it wouldn’t be the easiest to do so but I feel ready and I love you and I want this with you no matter how crazy or hectic it may be but I also understand if you’re not ready-” You ramble before Max butts in.
“Is that why you’ve been quiet lately?” He asks, you can only manage to nod in response.
You both stand there in silence for a few moments, allowing the words to sink in giving Max time to respond. After a beat, Max draws in a sharp breath.
“Of course I’m ready, I always have been. The only thing I’ve been hesitant on is leaving you at home while I’m halfway across the world.” He finally says, studying your face.
“Max,” you say, bringing your hand up to cup his cheek, “I would be okay. I have your sister, your mom and my friends that will be there while you're gone. I don’t want to wait for a “perfect” time, because that’s taboo. I want you and I want a family with you.”
After a moment, Max cracks a smile.
“Well, I guess we better start cracking then.”
“Really?” You say full of surprise.
“Of course, honey. You’re the most important person to me and, I know we’ve always beat around the bush with this but it’s only because I didn’t want you to feel alone in it. So as long as you're comfortable and ready, I’m ready too.” Max says pulling you into an embrace.
“But if anything happens while I’m away, call me and I will stop the car mid race to be next to you.” He says faking seriousness.
“Oh no, you’re finishing your races. Our baby will not have a quitter as a father.” You respond teasingly.
Although you say perfect timing was taboo, the universe was on your side for this because you went into labor shortly after the race in Monaco the next season. And Max, finished the race and was by your side through it all.

Warning character death sad angsty read at your own risk
Max sat on the chair next to y/n's bed looking down at the girl. His friendship with her was important as she was like a little sister to him. Even then he saw himself in the younger girl — another version of him, hardworking and dedicated to the sport.
Max always thought Y/n would make it to Formula One if it wasn’t for the accident. She would have been a possible contender for the second Red Bull seat, which Max would do anything to make happen. Just like he’d do anything to wake her up.
He thought back to when they had that interview when y/n joked saying that “Max wasn’t allowed to retire until they were teammates,” something that he was fine with.
"Hi, I'm Max Verstappen, and I'm a Miami taxi driver," Max joked. Y/n smiled at the camera and introduced herself, "Hi, I'm Y/n l/n, and I'm an F1 academy driver."
The two drivers were seated in the rear of the car, with Max holding a can of Red Bull, and Y/n clutching her water bottle. They both were wearing a Red Bull team polo shirt and a hat to match.
Max turned to Y/n and teased, "That sounded better than my intro," which led to a chuckle from both of them. "Stroopwafels or Poffertjes?" Y/n asked, sparking a friendly debate. "I would go with Stroopwafels, but that's only because I think I had too many Poffertjes when I was growing up," Max replied with a grin. The interviewer then asked about their most memorable races.
"For me, it's Barcelona because my first win was there," Y/n said, smiling and nodding her head. "Winning my first Formula 1 race, as well " Max responded with enthusiasm. "That was your first win in Barcelona, right?" the interviewer clarified. "Yep, Barcelona is good to us," Max confirmed, looking over at Y/n. "Yeah, Barcelona is good to us," Y/n chimed in.
The memory of the thrilling moment lingers vividly in her mind. She vividly recalls the exhilarating instant she surpassed Lia Block just as they crossed the finish line, securing first place. Her veins pulsed with adrenaline as she gingerly rose from the car, feeling the weight of her legs and the trembling sensation. With a triumphant smile, she emerged from the car and dashed toward the barrier where her team awaited, leaping into the air amidst the cheering crowd. Y/n's heart pounded wildly in her ears, reminiscent of the thundering sound of galloping horses in full stride.
The interview moved on to discussing their racing career and their experiences. Y/n shared how she started in karting and worked her way up through the motorsport ladder. Max chimed in, recalling his karting origins as well as the passion and dedication throughout his journey. The interviewer asked, "What's the best part about being a driver?"
Max answered, "It's the adrenaline rush of racing and the feeling of success when you win a race." "I agree," Y/n added. "The thrill of racing and the satisfaction of improving." The interview continued, and the conversation shifted to their off-track lives.
"What's your favorite pastime outside of racing?" the interviewer asked. "I like to relax and spend time with friends and family," Y/n replied. Max chuckled and added, "I'm a bit of a video game enthusiast."
"I've learned that playing video games requires as much focus and skill as racing," Y/n teased. "So, Max, any special someone in your life?" the interviewer jokes, prompting smiles from both drivers.
Max chuckled and jokingly replied, "Yeah, my two cats." Y/n joined in, chiming in with, "I have a goldfish, does that count?" Causing everyone around them to laugh at her statement. The interview took a lighthearted turn as they began discussing their favorite tracks and memories.
"Apart from Barcelona, what's your favorite track?" the interviewer asked. "Spa," Y/n responded without hesitation. "The Belgian crowds are amazing, and it's a historic track."
Max nodded, adding, "Spa's a good one. For me, it's hard to beat my home track, Zandvoort."
“Oooh I love Zandvoort” y/n responded with a gleam in her eyes. Max grinned, looking at Y/n's enthusiasm. "I knew you had good taste in tracks," he teased. "Zandvoort has a unique atmosphere, and the fans are passionate." The interview moved on to questions about their relationship, and the conversation took a more serious turn. "It's no secret that you two have a close relationship," the interviewer said. "How would you describe your bond?" Max looked at Y/n, waiting for her to respond. Y/n smiled and spoke with confidence, "We're like siblings. We know each other inside and out, and we can rely on each other no matter what." Max added to her answer, saying, "We support each other both on and off the track. It's a rare connection, and I'm grateful for it." The interviewer smiled and nodded “And lastly do the two of you see yourselves as teammates in the future?” They asked.
Max looked at Y/n, and they both smiled before Max responded with a hint of determination. "That's the plan. Y/n and I have been working together for years, pushing each other and learning from each other. Together, we could make history." Y/n nodded in agreement.
“I also told Max that he’s not allowed to retire until we become teammates” Y/n jokes. Max chuckled and jokingly retorted, "I guess I'll have to stick around for a bit longer, then." Y/n smiled, adding, "You better keep that promise. We have big dreams to fulfill." The interviewer wrapped up the interview, expressing gratitude to both Y/n and Max for the insightful conversation. As they walked out of the studio, Max turned to Y/n. "You know, you have a way with words." Y/n shrugged, "What can I say? We're a great team." "We are," Max agreed, putting his arm around Y/n's shoulder. "But I have to admit, you saying that I can't retire until we become teammates was pretty funny."
“Oh I was serious” Max chuckled, raising an eyebrow. "Are you saying you'll try to block my retirement?” Y/n shrugged with a mischievous smile, "If that's what it takes to become teammates, then you bet I will."
Max shook his head in amused disbelief. "You're something else, you know that?"
Y/n just smiled, enjoying the lighthearted banter between them. “Trust me Max I know”
Wiping away the tears from his eyes Max's thoughts were interrupted by the sound of the hospital room door opening. A nurse entered, checking on Y/n's vitals and making sure everything was alright.
Taking a moment to observe the girl, Max couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness. Despite the steady beeping of the heart monitor, Y/n lay eerily still in her bed, her condition critical.
The nurse, sensing Max's concern, walked over to him. She placed a comforting hand on his shoulder rubbing her thumb against his shoulder.
“You should go home and get some rest” the nurse suggested in a soft but firm tone. Max scoffed at her statement he wasn’t exactly in the mood for unsolicited advice from anyone at the moment.
"How is she doing?" Max inquired, his voice filled with worry, he didn’t care about anything else that wasn’t his friend.
The nurse glanced at Y/n's chart before responding, "Her condition remains critical, but no change so far."
Max nodded, staring at Y/n's still form, praying for some sign of improvement.
“I meant what I said before Mr.Verstappen you should go home and rest. I don’t think your friend would want you to sit here and beat yourself up over something you can’t control.” The nurse says with a tight-lipped smile and a soft tone.
Max turned his attention back to his friend. He reached out to hold Y/n's hand, feeling the coolness of her skin against his own.
"Come on, Y/n. You've got to pull through," Max whispered, his voice cracking slightly.
Max closed his eyes, recalling the memory of the accident vividly. He could still hear the sound of the collision and the sight of Y/n's car spinning out of control. It was a scene that he had replayed countless times in his mind.
He remembered the rush of fear and adrenaline when he first saw the accident and the way his heart stopped when he realized it was Y/n in the mangled car.
Max clenched his fists, the emotions from that day flooding back to him. The helplessness he had felt as he watched the paramedics rush to the scene, the desperate hope that she would be okay. And the sickening feeling in his stomach when he was informed of the extent of her injuries.
Y/n’s skin was covered in dark purple bruises and cuts that were covered with gauze, curious Max reached over and grabbed the folder that contained the information about Y/n’s injuries. She had eternal bruises and a fractured rib followed by two broken ones; her femur, the radius, and the ulna in her right arm were also broken. The more Max read on her injuries the more he felt sick to his stomach.
Y/n also had a small hairline fracture in her skull instinctively Max touched the side of his head from when he had his big accident back in 2021 during the Silverstone Grand Prix realizing how lucky he was. Continuing reading the charts y/n was also punctured by a piece of carbon fiber slicing through her Kidney, Liver, and aorta artery causing major blood loss the more Max read about y/n the sicker he felt.
The accident had happened during a pre-season Barcelona test. It was supposed to be just a routine session, a chance to try out some new car parts and strategize for the upcoming season.
But things went awry when Y/n lost control of her car on the rain-dampened track. Her car skidded out of control, slamming into the safety barrier with a sickening crunch.
The impact had been severe, and Max's heart stopped as he watched the chaotic scene unfolding before him. Max watched on the monitors as the medics worked on pulling her bloodied and unconscious form from the wreckage.
In that instant, Max's world had shifted. The laughter and banter they had shared just moments ago in the interview room now felt like a cruel echo of the present. As he sat by her bedside, holding her motionless hand, all Max could think about was how unfair life could be.
Somehow by the grace of god, Max was convinced that he should go home, shower, and rest. Sighing Max walked into his apartment tossing his keys onto the table by the door he was also greeted by his two cats Jimmy and Sassy who he was grateful to see.
“Hi guys,” Max says squatting down to pet the cats who were happy to see their dad. “Are you hungry?” Max asked walking into the kitchen to feed the cats. Once the cats were fed and happy Max went to his bedroom turning on the light he walked over to his dresser picking out clean clothes to put on after his shower. Emptying his pockets Max plugged in his phone to charge while he was showing.
In the bathroom, Max gazed at his reflection in the mirror. He appeared worn out, with a complexion flushed and swollen from tears. His eyes were bloodshot and stung from sleep deprivation, and the dark circles beneath them were a deep shade of purple. Once Max took in his appearance he turned in the shower to the desired temperature of water and stripped out of his clothes.
The hot water felt good on his sore muscles, something Max was grateful for in that moment. He stood there underneath the water until it turned cold. That's when Max got out of the shower and got dressed. It wasn’t long after his shower Max got into bed for the night sleep welcoming him as soon as his head hit the pillow.
Max was woken up by the sound of his phone ringing groaning out in exhaustion. He sat up in bed and looked at his phone to see who was calling him. Max felt his heart race at the sight of y/n’s calling him. Max immediately. Answered her phone call.
“Mrs. L/n is everything alright?” Max asked, standing up to pace around his bedroom.
Max was met with silence from the other end of the phone “Oh Max I’m so sorry” Mrs. L/n lets out shakily and Max’s heart breaks even more than it already was.
“No no she didn’t— she’s still here she has to be,” Max says in denial refusing to accept the harsh reality that his friend was gone.
"Max, I'm sorry. She’s gone," Mrs. L/n says, letting out a broken sob, and with a single sentence Max's whole world came crashing down around him with a choking sob and an anguishing scream.
———-
The warmth she felt was a kind of warmth that radiated from the sun and she also felt safe, which was kinda ironic since the last thing she could remember was her car spinning out of control just before crashing into the barrier before her whole world had gone pitch black and cold.
Opening her eyes Y/n noticed that she was lying in soft green grass looking around she noticed a group of people standing around a freshly dug grave. Confused, Y/n stood up brushing off the black dress pants she was wearing. Black pants that she didn’t remember putting on hell Y/n didn’t even remember how she got here in the cemetery.
The closer y/n got to the group of people she realized that these were her closest friends and family. Looking around she noticed Max who stood tall and composed, dressed in a black suit as he looked out over the funeral service. It was a beautiful ceremony, yet the grief weighed heavily in the palpable air.
As Y/n approached the group, no one seemed to notice her presence. They were all deeply immersed in the funeral service, their faces etched with grief and sadness. The air was heavy with a mix of sorrow and acceptance, a stark reminder of the reality they were facing.
Her parents were seated in the front row, silently weeping. Max stood nearby, his gaze fixed on the open grave where her coffin would soon be lowered.
Feeling out of place and utterly confused, Y/n tried to approach Max, hoping to get his attention. But as she neared him, her body passed directly through him, making her gasp in surprise.
Max didn't react, not even seeming to notice the feeling of her presence passing through him. It was a surreal and unsettling experience for Y/n, who couldn't make sense of what was happening.
a realization dawned on Y/n as she took in her surroundings, the people gathered at the funeral, and the grave that was awaiting her. She remembered the accident and the blackness that followed, the absence of any feeling or sensation.
"Am I...am I dead?" she asked aloud, her voice barely above a whisper.
The realization hit her like a ton of bricks, crashing down on her with the weight of finality. She wasn't just injured or in a coma; she had lost her life in the tragic accident.
Tears welled up in Y/n's eyes, her chest feeling tight as the reality of her situation sank in. She had been so focused on her dreams and ambitions, so determined to become a Formula 1 driver, and now it was all over.
She looked at her parents, grief-stricken and tearful, and then at Max, a man who had become like a brother to her through their shared passion and friendship.
The weight of sadness and regret settled deeply in her heart as she watched Max standing there, stoically carrying on without her. As the ceremony continued, Y/n realized that she was nothing more than a specter, an observer of the event that marked her death. She was a ghost, unseen and unheard, a silent witness.
The realization was both heartbreaking and surreal. She had dreams, aspirations, and a future that had all been snatched away in a single instant.
At that moment, Y/n just wanted to reach out and touch Max, to tell him how much he meant to her and how much she would miss him.
But she knew it was futile. She was trapped in this ghostly state, unable to interact with the living world in any meaningful way.
All Y/n could do was watch from the sidelines as her friends and family said their final farewells, her heart aching with a mixture of sorrow and longing.
Soon the funeral came to an end and y/n watched as Max placed a single flower on top of the coffin.
“Vaarwel Zus,” Max says with a whisper.
As Max stepped back from the grave, the finality of the situation weighed heavily on him. Y/n saw the grief etched on his face, mingled with a sense of loss and acceptance.
"Vaarwel," Max whispered again, his voice filled with nostalgia and sadness.
Y/n watched as her mom approached Max, her voice filled with a mixture of gratitude and sorrow. Tears streamed down her face, and she struggled to find the right words.
"Max," she said, her voice quivering, "Thank you for being there for my daughter. She always spoke so fondly of you. You were like family to her."
Max, his expression filled with a hint of sadness, placed a comforting hand on her mom's arm.
"Y/n was also family to me," he replied softly. "She was one of the strongest and most determined people I've ever known. I'm honored to have been her friend."
Y/n smiled faintly as she listened to their conversation. Despite the circumstances, it warmed her heart to know that Max cared deeply for her and that their bond extended beyond their shared passion for racing.
“Oh Max you should have been there" She got the call for pre-season testing in Barcelona. She was so excited I've never seen her so happy Y/n was excited to become your teammate” Mrs.L/n says
Max's eyes softened upon hearing those words. He remembered how Y/n had joked about them becoming teammates, and a pang of sadness hit him. That dream would never become a reality now.
"I remember," Max responded, his voice filled with nostalgia and regret. "She deserved that chance. Y/n had more talent and determination than anyone I knew."
Mrs.L/n nodded, tears still streaming down her face. "She looked up to you, you know."
Max looked down, guilt and sorrow filling his heart. "I should have been there to guide her, to support her. But it's too late now."
Mrs.L/n reached out to grasp Max's arm gently. "Don't blame yourself, Max. You were an excellent friend to her. Y/n was an amazing girl, but fate had other plans."
Max's eyes met Mrs.L/n's, and he saw a mixture of pain and acceptance. "I'll always feel like I could have done more. She was so young, with so much potential and ambition."
Mrs.L/n's voice trembled as she spoke again. "She had so many dreams. She wanted to make her mark in Formula 1."
"And she would have," Max said, his voice filled with conviction. "Y/n was born to race."
They stood there in silence, the weight of the loss hanging heavily. Max's mind was flooded with memories of Y/n - the laughter, the banter, the shared passion for racing. The emptiness she left behind felt immense.
The connection they had was unique, and now with Y/n gone, Max felt the absence more than ever. He could only hope that wherever she was, Y/n was surrounded by peace and happiness.
Mrs.L/n looked up at Max, gratitude filling her eyes. "You were like a brother to her, Max. Thank you for being there for her. Thank you for being a part of her life."
Max gently squeezed her arm, his voice cracking with emotion. "I was lucky to have her as a friend. Y/n was one of the best people I've ever known. She'll always be in my heart."
They stood there, two people connected by a profound loss, each silently honoring the memory of Y/n. The bond they shared, forged through their love for her, would endure with time.
Mrs.L/n hugged Max tightly, her body trembling with grief. "Please take care of yourself," she murmured. Max nodded, holding her close and providing comfort and unwavering support.
"I will," he assured her. "I'll make sure to honor Y/n's memory and continue living passionately. That's what she would have wanted."
They shared a moment of silent understanding before Mrs.L/n pulled back, her eyes still filled with tears. Max stepped back, watching as she walked towards the car with her husband and children, leaving him alone at the graveyard.
Y/n stood there with tears streaming down her face as she listened to her mom and friend talk about her. All she could do was smile sadly at the two of them as they had their conversation. She watched as her mom and Max had one last hug before parting ways.
“Goodbye, Mom I love you,” Y/n says, reaching out fingertips lightly brushing against her mom's arm causing her to falter in her steps looking over to where her daughter stood, seeing nothing she shook her head and kept walking the car.
Y/n turned to look at Max who stood firm in his position “Thank you Max for everything” she said reaching up to try to wipe away one of his tears.
Max was overwhelmed by a sense of comfort that washed over him as If it was warm and comforting. Looking up and around, Max couldn't shake the feeling that Y/n's presence was with him. He was certain that she was right there with him.
“Thank you for everything Y/n” Max says, smiling a small smile.
“tot ziens broer” Y/n whispers before going into the light.
I feel like TWIG needs some angst so imagine George finding out that you and your little ones got into a car accident
You are so right, anon 💕 Sorry it took me a bit to get to this one but I had to make sure I was in the writing mindset for angst!!
Warnings: Minor descriptions of car crash, injuries, and shock
It wasn’t quite the same as the real thing; stuffed in a replica of the recent Mercedes chassis facing a large arched screen displaying the virtual circuit of Baku. After almost a decade in the sport, George could have driven those streets with his eyes closed but he knew there was no place for cockiness behind the wheel. Every turn and choice must be meticulously calculated and perfected to pull every second out of the care safely.
He was just starting another flying lap in the sim when the tone of the speaker tore him from his focus. One of the technicians spoke to him through the windowed wall of the simulator booth, “George, your phone keeps ringing out here. It’s your wife. Why don’t you take five?”
A spark of concern flickered in his chest, wondering why you were calling multiple times when you rarely so much as messaged him when he was at the factory. He climbed out of the simulator and stepped through the door into the adjacent room that held a few long desks stocked with computers housing impressive data sets and graphs. The employees that took up the seats kept their attention on studying the results of the session while George picked up his phone from where he had left it at the table at the back.
He noticed three missed calls from you and before he could call you back, his screen filled with your name and contact image with another incoming call. The urgency had his stomach churning and he stepped out into the hallway for a moment of privacy as he answered it.
“Hey, my love, sorry, I was in the sim.” he spoke into the phone, trying not to sound too worried, “Is everything okay?”
“Hey, yeah, we’re okay,” you answered.
He could hear the tension in your voice, the slight waver to your words. Somewhere in the distance, there was chatter and the muffled sound of an announcement.
“I just…” you tried to continue but your words seemed to halt.
George sat down in a chair in one of the small lounges in the factory, “Love, what is it? You’re scaring me.”
“Sorry,” you breathed, your exhale shaky, “I’m with the kids at the hospital. We, uh…there was…fuck.”
He could tell how shaken you were by the fact you were unable to even piece sentences together but the fact he was only being given bits of the story was sending him into a spiral. With a tight breath, he pressed urgently, “Are you okay? Are they okay?”
“Yeah, no, yeah, we’re fine.” you assured him quickly, “Some bruises but…we’re all fine. Just…got into a little car accident. Came here to be checked out just in case.”
George was filled with equal parts relief and dread. Relief that you were all okay but dread that there had been enough of an accident to have you think about going to the hospital to get checked out. He didn’t even have to think about it before he stood up from the bench and started back down the hallway towards his private room, replying, “Okay…okay, my love, I’m on my way, alright? I have your location, I’ll head to you right now. Stay put, okay?”
“Okay,” you echoed in an exhale lined with a moment of relief, “Thank you. I’m sorry.”
“Oh my God, baby, do not be sorry. I’m just glad you’re okay. I just have to change and I’m coming right to you now.”
“Okay, I love you.”
The shock-stemmed flatness of your voice was chilling.
“I love you too,” George replied easily, his tone extra warm and gentle, “I’ll see you soon.”
He was sure he had never changed faster in his life, tugging off his sim-ready race suit in exchange for his street clothes before he had even alerted his team that he had to go. When he returned to the simulator room to say he was leaving and why, he didn’t even wait for a response before he was closing the door behind him and making a beeline for the stairs of the factory.
The parking lot of the Brackley headquarters was packed but George’s reserved parking spot wasn’t too far from the front doors of the building. He checked your location on his brisk walk to his car, zooming in on the map to see what hospital you were at and, once he was sitting behind the wheel, he typed the location into the GPS in his car.
It was ironically a sunny day in England that day, the roads dry and clear as he navigated through the countryside from Brackley to Cambridge. He silently cursed the hour-and-a-half drive as his impatience was settling on his shoulders but he didn’t let it deter him from focusing on the roads ahead. The piece of mind came with the awareness that you were okay.
Once he was parked outside the Addenbrooke Hospital on the southern point of the city of Cambridge, he was hurrying across the lot towards the entry doors, phone pressed to his ear as he called you. You directed him to where you were waiting and once he emerged through the double doors into the waiting room of the wing you were in, his heart was racing.
You stood from your chair at the sight of him and he rushed to meet you, swallowing you up in a careful embrace. You clung onto him tightly, fingers clutching the back of his shirt and your eyes screwed shut as you buried your face in his neck. He could feel your heavy sigh of relief in his arms as if the tension and stress had been completely dissipated from your body with a simple hug from him.
Across the waiting room, your two children were distracted by some toys in the corner, playing together, unbothered, as if it were just another day. Watching them for a moment over your shoulder, the only thing George could notice about them was the blue bandaid on your son’s temple.
You pulled away from his embrace a little, voice still a little shaky from the shock as you updated him on the well-being of your children, “She’s the best out of the three of us, basically completely unharmed. Little guy’s cut was from the impact…hitting just the right part of his carseat. I took the worst of it.”
George tore his attention away from the children to look back at you, finally getting a proper look at you up close. It was then that he noticed the bruising over your nose and down your right cheek and jaw, colouring your skin in purples and greens. His eyes trailed down your profile to where you held out your trembling hands, your right wrist wrapped in a bandage.
“Just a minor sprain,” you assured him before he could worry too much. You tried to make light of it with a soft, “The paramedic said it was likely from how hard I was holding onto the wheel when we were hit. She said it was like my ‘mama bear’ instincts took over, trying to keep control of the car the best I could.”
George pulled in a shaky breath and moved back in to hug you again if needing to feel you there, that you were really okay. Your arms smoothly wrapped around his shoulders as he pulled you close, both of you just holding onto each other for a moment.
“What happened?” George finally asked. He felt as though he had been keeping that question on the tip of his tongue since you had first called him, wanting to know but also wanting to save himself from knowing the cold hard truth.
You sniffled and pulled back just enough to look at him, although your eyes were downcast as if in shame, “Some idiot made a right turn at an intersection without looking. I braked and swerved just enough to not get entirely t-boned but he hit almost directly on the front driver's side. Hence,”
You held up your sprained wrist.
“Saved the kiddies though.” you mumbled.
George gently set a hand on your face and pulled you in to press a kiss to your head as if he could pour all his love into that simple action.
The power behind it had your eyes welling with tears and you whispered out a shaky, “I’m sorry. I’m really sorry.”
George tenderly trailed the back of his finger over your uninjured cheek to swipe away a stray tear, “What on earth do you have to be sorry about right now?”
“We took your C63.” you whimpered, another heavy tear dripping down your cheek, “It’s…so fucked. So, so fucked. I know how much you love it…how much you protect it and I didn’t think—”
“Shhh,” George hushed you softly, gently rubbing your biceps comfortingly as he stared into your tear-filled eyes, “The last thing on my mind right now is the car. I hadn’t once thought about the car since you called me. You, the kids…that’s all I care about right now. That’s all I care about ever.”
“Okay,” you choked out through a sob, lifting your hands to hide your face as you burst into tears in the middle of the hospital waiting room.
George’s arms encircled you and he pressed another kiss to your head, cradling you against his chest and surrounding you with his love and comfort. As much as he adored that car, he truly didn’t care about it in that moment as he held you in his arms. He had trusted you with it, knowing you were always a safe driver, but the one thing that he always knew was the scariest part of driving was that you can’t control what anyone else on the road does.
As he held you, he whispered words of reassurance to you, reminding you with a serious, “We can fix up a car…we can get a new car…but I can’t get a new you.”
His comfort had the damns breaking, causing you to let out your bottled up emotions into his neck with a sobbing, “I was so scared.”
His heart nearly broke at your confession and he rubbed his hand over your back, comforting you in the only way he knew how and the only way he could offer, “I know, my love. I’m here. I got you.”
