If it's one thing I dislike about Wings of Eternity, it's how Golden Cheese half-realised/realised late why Burning Spice is the way he which led up to the mass mischaracterisation within the fandom.

Burning Spice is not evil just because he grew bored. Burning Spice is evil because the process of watching the things he protected be born, live, and die over and over again. He grew tired, depressed, and despaired at the sight of his creations, his children dying while he is cursed with immortality, being forced to watch each and every one of them wither away without being able to do a single thing about it.

I understand why he went mad.

Apparently a lot of people get dialogue punctuation wrong despite having an otherwise solid grasp of grammar, possibly because they’re used to writing essays rather than prose. I don’t wanna be the asshole who complains about writing errors and then doesn’t offer to help, so here are the basics summarized as simply as I could manage on my phone (“dialogue tag” just refers to phrases like “he said,” “she whispered,” “they asked”):

“For most dialogue, use a comma after the sentence and don’t capitalize the next word after the quotation mark,” she said.

“But what if you’re using a question mark rather than a period?” they asked.

“When using a dialogue tag, you never capitalize the word after the quotation mark unless it’s a proper noun!” she snapped.

“When breaking up a single sentence with a dialogue tag,” she said, “use commas.”

“This is a single sentence,” she said. “Now, this is a second stand-alone sentence, so there’s no comma after ‘she said.’”

“There’s no dialogue tag after this sentence, so end it with a period rather than a comma.” She frowned, suddenly concerned that the entire post was as unasked for as it was sanctimonious.

Fatherhood? Impossible!

Fatherhood was a phase unwelcome in the Great Destroyer's endless life. The mere concept of fatherhood clashes with all that he is. He is a destroyer, devoid of any tender and loving feelings, the very things that make up fatherhood.

Fatherhood is a new phase in his life—if not the only new phase in his life apart from being once the hailed Herald of Change and now the feared usurper—the Great Destroyer.

The woman he met once upon time, the woman who sought his knowledge, was barely to be found. She was still present, however, she had matured. All because of this little spawn that belonged to none other than him.

However, despite having matured, it was clear she, too, struggled with motherhood having stepped so suddenly into her life. An invasion initially unwelcome but now... unsure.

Both parents struggled with what is now presented before them. Something which they must (forcefully) accept and it seems as if the mother has taken that first step forward. Whether Burning Spice truly wishes to do so or not, remains to be seen. However, should he not, it comes at the price of his little lamb.

“Y/N,” Jimmy calls, snapping the nurse out of her thoughts. “Yes?” she answers, looking up at the man as her body tensed up ever so slightly. Her body is always prepared to punch the man in the face especially since everything seems to get worse now that he's in charge.

“He's making those noises again and Anya was the one who shut him up last time. It's your turn now.”

She still couldn't understand how Curly ever managed to be friends with someone as despicable as Jimmy, how he still even considered him a friend even after the blatant display of envy. She couldn't understand him.

Nevertheless “Right, I'll get to it” she didn't question the man and did as he said. She was in no state or mood to fight, especially knowing that there were more important things to worry about and that she couldn't let Curly suffer a second longer than he already has.

She rushed towards the Med-bay where she was met with a groaning and writhing Curly. The sight made her cringe, her skin crawl, and pity the incapacitated captain.

“Hnggrhhhh...” Curly groaned and whined uncontrollably.

The nurse quickly walked towards the table with the painkillers “Yes, captain. I know,” taking out a bunch of pills before hastily approaching his bed.

Curly looked up at her with his one eye still groaning and writhing, pleading despite his lack of words to make the pain end. She looked down at him with pity. This wasn't the captain Curly she knew.

“Yes, I know. I hear you.”

Unlike Jimmy, she was very gentle with handling Curly. She took the courtesy of slightly seating herself next to him so could lift his head just high enough to be able to swallow his pills somewhat easier.

“Hrnhhgg!” despite his squirming, she was able to keep a firm but gentle hold on the man as he then opened his mouth “I know, captain,” and gave him his pills one by one. What followed next was the agonising noise of Curly struggling to swallow his pills along with the jerking of his body. As much as it killed her to witness the sight, she held on to Curly firmly, assisting him and ensuring that he did not choke his pills.

At the end of the gruelling process, she let out a breath she wasn't aware she held. As she was about to lay Curly back down so she could head out, the unmistakable sound of soft, broken sobs reached her ears. Immediately, her eyes snapped down towards Curly, realising that he was... crying.

She did not know what to do or say but she could understand one thing from this moment: Curly did not want to be alone. Despite the mere twitches he was able to make with his body, she noticed his left arm slightly, ever so slightly reaching out towards her, as if begging her to stay.

His one eye remained trained on her and despite the lack of tears, she knew he was trying to cry and sob uncontrollably... but could not because of the pain. It crushed her, “No need, Curly,” but she gently held him in her arms against her abdomen “I'll stay,” gently and briefly caressing his head as she listened to his sobs. Her eyes teared up at the noise... This was not her once trustworthy and responsible captain, no... he was just a man. A broken man. And that hurt to know.

At that moment, it all began to sink in. The agony Curly is in, the likelihood of remaining in space and never being found, the monster that is Jimmy being in charge of things. What would become of Swansea, Anya, Daisuke? What would become of Curly?

What would become of her?

Tears clouded her already blurry vision as her arms instinctively held Curly closer, though it was to comfort herself more or less. Curly's despair forced her to face the reality that is.

“I'm sorry...” and as her tears cascaded down her cheeks, her hand gently caressing Curly's bandaged face as his eye stared up at her, “I'll stay,” she only could promise him that slight bit of comfort she can provide and wait for their inevitable doom...

“I'll be here.”
