An Eternity Without You, is an Eternity of Suffering

TW: Fluff turns to angst :) Neuvillette x Furina aka Immortal x Mortal hehehehe

-----------------------

“Come on dance with me!” Furina called out to Neuvillette as she stood on the surface of the water. The white haired woman reaching out a hand to him as he stood at the edge of the lake, the turquoise waters lapping at his shoes. “Is the hydro dragon really scared of a little water?” Furina laughed with a smile on her face as she splashed some water in his direction.

“I do not fear the water, I simply-”

“Come on then!” She didn't let him finish his sentence, pulling him along to the center of the lake. (For the purposes of this story Neuvillette can walk on water.) “Neuvillette.” Furina pouted as the taller man attempted to retreat to the safety of the shore. “Dance with me. Please?” She begged, clinging to his arm, “Please Neuvillette, just one dance? And then I promise we can go home. I don’t want to dance alone.”

“...Very well.” He sighed, “One dance it is,” Neuvillette took her hand in his as Furina beamed, he had promised that he would never let Furina dance alone, not ever again. The taller man let her lead him, Furina twirled around him, leading him through the waltz. Neuvillette let himself crack a smile as he admired Furina, the way she would look down to make sure her feet matched with his, the way one strand of her hair curved up and bobbed with each movement.

“You're surprisingly good at this Monsieur.” Furina smiled, as Neuvillette spun her.

“Your standards for me are far too low, Lady Furina .” Neuvillette scoffed, “I can dance.”

“Well how was I supposed to know?” Furina rolled her eyes playfully. “You almost never do.” As the dance came to a close she detached herself from Neuvillette.

-----------------------

“Look, it looks just like you.” Furina giggled as she lifted up the soggy creature.

“It does not.” Neuvillette glanced at the otter she held in her hands. “It looks nothing like me.” Neuvillette sipped his water, turning his head away from the creature.

“Oh come on. Look.” Furina lifted the creature higher, “It looks just like you. It even has your blue horns!”

“It has stripes not horns.” Neuvillette corrected, throwing the creature a subtle glare.

“Hmph.” Furina pouted, setting the creature down. “I think the Melusines would agree with me.” The former archon huffed, leaning against the taller man, her head against his shoulder as she watched the otters swim and play in the fontainian sea.

“They most certainly would not.” Neuvillette handed Furina a glass of water.

“You say that now.” Furina waved a finger at him. “But just you wait, I’ll ask Sigewinne when we see her again. With how long she spends in the fortress she's bound to see the otters at least a few times.” Furina smirked. “And I’m sure she would agree with me.”

“...I do not look like the otters of Fontaine.” Neuvillette huffed.

“Denial is a river in the Sumeru Desert.” Furina shrugged with a laugh.

-----------------------

“Stay still Neuvillette.” Furina scolded.

“I apologize.” Neuvillette tried to stay still as the woman brushed out his hair. Carefully removing any knots and tangles his hair had developed overnight, she did her best in trying not to yank at his hair. However he couldn't help but wince every once in a while when she pulled too hard.

“You don't even move that much while you sleep. How does your hair get this knotted?” Furina complained as she brushed.

“I do not know,” Neuvillette replied honestly, “Please be careful with-”

“Be careful with your horns. I know.” Furina laughed, using one hand to gently run her hand over the blue horns that protruded from his skull. They were both hard and soft, it felt like touching water if the water was solid and not wet. “They're so pretty.” Furina smiled as she worked around them.

“As you have mentioned before.” Neuvillette smiled as he felt the woman start to braid his hair.

“I can't help it! It is pretty.” Furina pouted. “You have to agree on that.”

“Hm. Very well I shall agree with you Lady Furina.” Neuvillette watched her work through her reflection in the mirror. “What do you have to do today Lady Furina?” Neuvillette asked as he looked at her,

“Just some filming.” Furina waved a hand.

“Are you not worried that you will be late?” Neuvillette inquired, his voice soft.

“No. It's still early in the morning Neuvillette, and we have to film during the day.” Furina laughed, her laugh warmed his heart.

“I see. And what are you shooting?” He asked softly.

“Today it's a scene where the man confesses to his lover… but they cannot be together not yet anyway,” She chuckled, “So the man is left alone with his bouquet of rainbow roses at the bench and it's all sad.”

“I see.” Neuvillette smiled, “I will have to see this film when it comes out.”

“You better!” Furina gasped, “If you don't show up to the premiere I’ll be sad. And mad.” She expertly wove the ribbon into his hair tying the braid.

“Then I shall be there to witness your new film.” Neuvillette smiled, standing up and offering her a hand.

“Hmph-” Furina stood up, “You better or I will cry.”

“Tell me the date of the premiere then ma chérie.” Neuvillette pressed a kiss to the back of her hand. “Have a pleasant day.” He smiled, noticing the blush that dusted her cheeks.

“You too.” Furina smiled, waving him away as she got ready for her day.

-----------------------

The clapping faded away as Neuvillette rushed backstage, the performance Furina had put on in the musical had been amazing, oh how he loved seeing her perform. The way she would twirl onstage and smile her blinding smile. Furina in question had already changed out of her costume and was wearing her usual dark blue suit and white shorts, the hydro vision hung off her sash by her waist.

“Oh Neuvillette!” Furina spotted him almost instantly running over. “What did you think?” She beamed, clapping her hands excitedly.

“I think it was wonderful,” Neuvillette smiled, pressing a kiss to the back of her hand. “You really are a wonderful actress ma dulcinée.” He handed her a bouquet of rainbow roses.

“Thank you mon amour .” Furina beamed, gripping the bouquet excitedly.

“I do think we should celebrate this.” Neuvillette mused, “Where would you like to go eat?”

“Oh can we go to the Hotel Deboard?” Furina smiled, “They have wonderful desserts.”

“I do hope you don't plan on just eating desserts.” Neuvillette smiled as he walked out of the Opera Epiclese with Furina. “That wouldn’t be very filling.”

“But they're good.” Furina smiled as she walked alongside him, Neuvillettes hand resting on her hip.

-----------------------

“Neuvillette… I burnt the macaroni…” Furina stared miserably at the blackened macaroni in the pot.

“Tsk- Let me cook Furina darling.” Neuvillette gently shooed her away from the kitchen.

“You can't just serve water and call that food,” Furina huffed as she played with a glass that was left out.

“I will not just serve water.” Neuvillette scoffed, “I will make Consomme Purete.” He announced proudly, “And it will be made using only the finest water-”

“Mon dragon, I think you're the only person in Teyvat who can taste different water. Water is water.” Furina rolled her eyes.

“It is not!” Neuvillette stared at her, mouth hanging agape. “Furina! Take that back! You know Fontaine has the best water.”

“How am I supposed to judge when you won't let me near other water?” Furina snorted, “You say Liyue water is salty and full of vortex overlord remnants and you won't even let me try it.”

“Because it’s bad water.” Neuvillette sipped his glass of water. “Its taste is by far the worst out of all seven nations in Teyvat. That much salt would probably kill you Furina.”

“Oh please how salty could it be?” Furina rolled her eyes. “And how in the name of Celestia do you figure out what vortex remnants taste like-” She swiveled her head to give him a pointed stare. “Do you regularly eat vortex remains-”

“You have gotten off topic.” Neuvillette waved a hand, “I am trying to cook.”

“Answer my question Neuvillette!” Furina whined.

“No.”

-----------------------

Furina pointed as a gold fish swam by. “Look!” She motioned for Neuvillette to follow her as she led him through the kelp forests of Fontaine. Furina spun through the ruins, twirling in the water as if she belonged there all along. Neuvillette smiled as he watched Furina dart around like a fish, dragging him along as she pointed at the animals.

“Furina I must-”

“No wait, stay a little bit longer.” Furina pleaded. (Idk if you can talk underwater I'm just gonna guess you can in Fontaine)

“Very well.” Neuvillette sighed. “How could you exploit the fact that I cannot say no to you?” He “reluctantly” swimmed after her, easily catching up to Furina, the water was his domain after all. “Are you enjoying yourself, Lady Furina?”

“Look at how cute it is!” Furina squealed as she grabbed Nevullittes hand pointing at a sleeping blubber seal. “How is it that it took me this long to go beneath the water? Did you know about this place?” Furina asked as she swam through the kelp forest.

“You have never swam in the Fontaine sea?” Neuvillette raised a brow, that was news to him.

“Nope! I never knew it was this pretty…” Furina beamed as a school of iridescent fish swam past her. Neuvillette smiled at the sight, watching as fish of all colors swirled around his Furina. As if she truly was the deity of water.

-----------------------

The sunset glowed white against the water, the waves softly moving and churning with the wind as Furina and Neuvillette sat next to each other by the shore. “Time flies doesn't it Neuvillette?” Furina whispered as she looked out at the sea

“I suppose it does.” The ludex answered softly.

“These past six hundred years have been an interesting experience.” Furina whispered, her head against the stoic man. Unlike her Neuvillette hadn’t aged a day, while Furina’s hair had grayed and wrinkles appeared on her face, the hydro dragon remained the same. However despite her old and weary joints, and her cracking voice, her eyes with their teardrop shaped pupils never lost their spark. “For five hundred of those years I was playing an archon… and for these past hundred… I have been playing myself.” Furina laughed just as she had used to when she was young. “However, these past one hundred years with you… have been wonderful Neuvillette.”

“Amour what are you saying?” Neuvillette looked over at her.

“I can feel it Neuvillette. My time is almost up.” Furina smiled softly, standing up and extending a hand to him. “Mon dragon, dance with me one last time?”

“I… very well ma déesse.” Nevuillette took her hand, leading her through a careful waltz. Each step felt like a thousand shards of ice piercing his heart as Furina danced with him. Despite her old body, she didn't stumble through the dance, gliding smoothly over the water just as they used to all those years ago. Neuvillette could feel the tears in his eyes, the slow rain that began only confirming that he was crying. Furina paused mid spin, noticing the water droplets that disturbed the stillness of the waters.

“Oh Neuvillette… getting sad again are you?” Furina smiled at him.

“How can I not?” He replied, his voice cracking with pain.

“This is the best ending I could ever dream of.” Furina smiled, wiping away his tears with her hand. “After six hundred years… I can finally truly rest.”

“Furina…” Neuvillette held her hand against his cheek as he closed his eyes. “I…”

“I love you Neuvillette, and I will love you for eternity.” Furina wiped his eyes.

“Furina…” Neuvillette gripped her hand looking at her pleadingly. “An eternity without you… that is an eternity of suffering…”

“Well if you think about it… not even you will live forever…” Furina smiled, “And one day we will be reunited… I promise it…”

“Furina…” The rain hammered down around them.

“Oh, hydro dragon, hydro dragon… dont cry….” She whispered, her lips ghosting over his for the last time.

Ivy and Freckle Relationship Headcannons

Relationship Headcannons~

Ivy takes most of the first's in the relationship since Freckle is pretty shy

However gain enough courage and Freckle will do spontaneous romantic things

Ivy loves picking out couple outfits for both herself and Freckle

Most dates they end up going to the park or just hanging around the Speakeasy (Viktor glares intensify)

The dates tend to be pretty chill until Rocky decides to provide ambience

When they go out for the bootlegging business Freckle tends to keep an eye on Ivy

If in a gunfight he tends to push Ivy behind him

he protec~ he attack~ but most importantly he floofy

Ivy is more PDA than Freckle however he will indulge on all affection given by Ivy

Freckle sometimes likes picking flowers for Ivy and leaving them somewhere she'll find them

Ivy has all the flowers Freckle has ever given her pressed in a book in her dorm

Freckle gets flustered easily and Ivy enjoys flustering him

Freckle gets embarrassed whenever he goes berserk and Ivy sees it

Basically the has darkside x loves them anyway trope

When going out or on a date they will usually end up wearing matching clothes

Freckle likes playing with Ivy's tail

Ivy likes brushing out Freckle's fur and tracing the stripes and patterns

Dancing is uh... a struggle

First time they danced Freckle fell over

Ivy teaches Freckle how to dance

Ivy tends to whack Rocky whenever he teases them about being a couple

Freckle just gets really flustered and hides his face in his paws

When just chilling their tails will intertwine

Freckle and Ivy will sometimes just chill in the car and cuddle while Rocky does Rocky shenanigans

Ivy gets jealous pretty easily but she has healthy coping strats and just tells whoever is flirting off (its easy in the Lackadaisy because Viktor is always watching from the bar)

Freckle does also get jealous but his stems from believing that he is inadequate as a partner due to his no experience in the subject

Ivy is quick to pick up on this tho and reassures Freckle that he's doing great

Over all 10/10 couple

Very fluff

I love them so much

Ghost hates Roosters (GhostSoap)

Tw: Swearing, use of Ghost's and Soap's real names, fluff

“Johnny, you feed the hens yet?” Ghost asked as he carried the potato’s into the barn while Soap milked the cows that lived within the barn's red walls. “No, not yet. Is yer turn anyway.” Soap chuckled, blowing Ghost a kiss as he finished milking the last cow. “Ah don’t wanna deal with yer rooste’.” Soap smiled picking up the milk bucket as he patted the cow's backside with one hand. “Yer know that bird hates mah guts M’eudail.” Soap smiled, kissing Ghost's cheek as he walked past. “Hmph. Fine I’ll feed the hens today.” Ghost chuckled as he set down the sack of potatoes, picking up the basket full of the chicken feed. “I’m only doin this because I love you Johnny.” Ghost waved a finger at his husband. “Ah doubt yer would let yer beloved hens starve Simon.” Soap snickered. “Yer love those critters te death.”

“I suppose.” Ghost nodded, as he exited the barn, walking over to the chicken coop where the hens had already gathered. Ghost smiled as the chickens flocked around him, letting out annoyed chirps and squawks of offense at being fed later than usual. “Relax you feathery bastards.” Ghost laughed as the chickens angrily flocked him. Ghost hummed as he sprinkled the chicken feed all over the coop. The hens scattering to go eat their fill. The sounds of annoyed squawking died down as the creatures had their fill. The feathered creatures going back to roaming the coop or sitting in their nests once they had their fill. After making sure the hens were fed, Ghost moved on to the roosters. Quite frankly Ghost didn't quite like the roosters and the roosters didn't like him. However the roosters loved Soap, they were never aggressive with the smaller scottish man, however they would always try to tear out Ghost’s eye sockets. Deciding against entering the rooster house Ghost just threw the chicken feed through the mesh walls. “Feed you insufferable bastards.” However upon spotting Ghost on the other side of the wall a rooster attempted to attack him. “You violent creatures.” Ghost grumbled retreating back to the barn where he found his husband sorting through potatoes. “Alright Johnny, you are feeding the roosters. I hate them and they hate me.” “Simon yer overreactin’ them rooster’s are sweet.” Soap chuckled, “An don say yer hate em. Yer gonna hurt their feelin’s.” “Those bloody cocks don’t have feelings!” Ghost growled sitting down next to Soap, “One of em tried to claw my eyes out.” “Yer over exaggerate so much M'eudail.” Soap chuckled leaning against Ghost. “Der roosters are nice yer just don’t get along with ‘em.” “They don't get along with me.” Ghost scowled as he helped Soap clean the potatoes. “Whatever yer say Mo chridhe.” Soap laughed at the pout on Ghost’s face. “Ah still think yer just bein mean ter der poor roosters, maybe that's why they hate yer.” “Can’t believe you take their side, love.” Ghost huffed, “those things are bloody monsters.” “Maybe that’s why they don’t like yer.” Soap rolled his eyes. “Yer keep callin em monster’s and vermin.” “I’ve never called them vermin. But that’s a good way to describe them.” Ghost replied, glancing at his husband. “Ah m’ just sayin, maybe if yer didn hurt they feelin maybe they'd like yer better.” Soap chuckled. “Maybe they should just stop being pricks.” Ghost growled as he stabbed a potato. Soap laughed at his husband's antics. “Maybe yer should be the bigger person and just befriend the roosters?” Soap suggested with a grin, eagerly waiting for his husband's grumbly response. “I don’t want to be the bigger person.” Ghost hunched over angrily stabbing the potatoes. “…right. An remin me who’s the human in this situation?” Soap asked teasingly. “…me.” “An who has to be the bigger person?” Soap asked again. “…me.” Ghost groaned in annoyance.

Introducing Freckle to Ruby (Ivy's dad)

Ivy meets Nina

Freckle stood outside the grand home of the Pepper’s. The mansion stood tall and proud, snowy walls with tall windows and large oak doors stood before him. Freckle fixed his bowtie, trying to look as professional as possible. He had worn his usual green pants and suit jacket, since according to Ivy “they matched his eyes.” Speaking of Ivy, the gray short furred cat stood next to him, her long thin wiry tail swishing with excitement. She was wearing a yellow sundress with matching heels and a matching hat adorned with flowers.

“You ready Freckle?” Ivy’s chipper voice broke through his thoughts.

“...Uh yeah. I’m ready.” He smiled at her, his tail twitched as his anxiety bore down on him. This was it, he would meet Ivy’s parents and if everything went according to plan… he could ask for their blessing, and hopefully marry her.

“Great! Come on.” Ivy led him up the marble steps, her heels hitting the floor each time with a clack. He followed albeit less enthusiastically behind her. His blood ran cold as the door opened, only to reveal a silver furred butler.

“Welcome back Ms. Pepper.” He bowed, holding the door open for the both of them.

“Hello Damien.” Ivy beamed. “Where’s Mother and Father?” She asked as she dragged Freckle along behind her.

“Your father is in his study, your mother is with your sisters in the garden miss.” Damien answered as he shut the door behind them.

“What time is lunch?” Ivy asked as she fished a pocket watch out of Freckle’s coat.

“At 12:30 Miss Pepper.” Damien answered. “Would you like me to notify your father of your guest?”

“Yes please.” Ivy nodded, “This is Fr- Calvin and he will be having lunch with me right?”

“That is correct.” Freckle straightened his posture trying to make himself look more confident than how he felt. As Damien vanished Freckle turned to Ivy. “That’s like twenty minutes. What are we going to do while we wait for lunch…?”

“Come on.” Ivy gripped his paw in hers. “Damien said that mother is in the garden with Rose and Willow. Anyway, Willow is the younger sister, she's six. Rose is ten.” Ivy looked at him. “Got it?”

“Yeah I think so…” Freckle blinked as Ivy led him back outside into the gardens. Rose bushes surrounded him, and snaking ivy grew along the wall like snakes. A small stream cut through the garden leading to a pond with a snowy white pavilion under a willow tree. Even from across the garden Freckle could see a pale cat sitting in the Pavilion. She had a long fluffy tail with a few ginger spots across her snout and long black hair, she also had large yellow eyes just like Ivy. Next to her sat two more girls, the seemingly older one had gray fur with white spots and yellow eyes, while the younger had dark gray fur and blue eyes.

“Mama!” Ivy beamed running up the stairs to the pavilion while Freckle trailed behind. “Willow! Rose! It's great to see you again!” Ivy hugged her mother and sisters respectively.

“Ivy. Hello darling.” Her mother smiled, she had a soft quiet voice. She moved gracefully as she hugged her daughter. “And who’s your friend?” She asked, her yellow gaze landing on Freckle.

“Mama. This is Calvin, Calvin this is my mother.” Ivy introduced Freckle to her mother.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you Ms. Pepper.” Freckle smiled politely.

“Calvin hm?” The snowy cat hummed. “I’m Charlotte, Ivy’s mother as you know. It’s a pleasure to meet you Calvin. Upon what business are you here?” She raised a brow as she stirred her tea with a silver spoon.

“Oh- Uh…” Freckle stuttered over his words.

“It was my idea!” Ivy jumped in to save him. “Kill two birds with one stone you know? You all get to meet Calvin, and he gets to asked Father for his blessing.” Ivy sped over the last part of the sentence.

“Blessing?” Charlotte raised a brow, sitting up straighter. “How curious. How about you and I discuss this Ivy?” She turned to Freckle. “Could you watch Willow and Rose while we chat?” Freckle nodded, despite being phrased like a question he could tell that it was an order.

“I would love to, after all I get to meet more of the Pepper family.” Freckle watched as Ivy vanished with her mother, the duo walking along the garden leaving him with the kittens. Rose immediately dragged Freckle over to a small table.

“Play with us.” She demanded, her stance was similar to Ivy whenever she demanded something of anyone at the speakeasy.

“Oh… you want me to-”

“Play with us!” The girl screamed, stomping her foot.

“Ah! Right yeah sure.” Freckle sat down in one of the tiny chairs.

“So you are Rose?” Freckle smiled at the fiery kitten as she dressed him up in one of Charlotte's sun hats. Like Ivy, Rose clearly took no for an answer, she even had Ivy’s signature glare. He started to regret giving into the girl’s antics as Willow wrapped him in a fluffy shawl. Similar to the one he could see Mitzi wearing around the Lackadaisy sometimes.

“Yep! And that’s Willow.” Rose pointed at the younger kitten while Willow poured imaginary tea into the broken china set.

“Now. I’m going to be the Queen, Willow you are the princess, and Calvin is the King.” Rose commanded as she strung pearl necklaces around her neck. Placing a flower crown on everyone's head. “And the Queen is having a tea party.”

“But I wanted to be the Queen.” Willow protested, pouting as he tail swished in annoyance.

“I’m the oldest. So I am the Queen.” Rose hissed, stomping her foot. “And I want a tea party.”

“Uh… How about you both are queens?” Freckle offered before this became an all out argument. “Just from different kingdoms. And you are having a tea party to discuss… queen things.”

“...Fine.” Rose sniffed. “You can be queen Willow… but only because I said so!” She added. Freckle played along as the girls did their thing. However when Ivy and her mother returned they were met with an interesting sight, Freckle was wrapped in random items of clothing holding a teacup in hand as Rose gave a toast.

“You look ridiculous.” Ivy burst into giggles as she liberated him from her two sisters.

“I noticed.” Freckle smiled at her, as he stripped off the unmatching clothing.

Freckle stood by Ivy as they got ready for dinner. “Father. Meet Calvin. Calvin, this is my father.” Ivy smiled, as she stood between the two men. Ivy’s father was a dark gray cat with sharp blue eyes, he didn't have a particularly bulky build and was more on the slender side. He wore a baby blue vest, with darker blue pants and black glossy shoes.

“Greetings Calvin. It’s a pleasure to meet you.” The cat smiled. “I’m Reuben Pepper.” He had a soft smile, similar to Ivy but less energetic and more tired.

“It’s good to meet you Mr. Pepper.” Freckle smiled politely.

“Oh nonsense you may call me Ruby.” Ruby chuckled, waving a paw. “Now please sit down. We can discuss as we eat. No point in standing and chatting as the food gets cold.” Freckle sat down next to Ivy. Ruby gave him a good vibe, he seemed friendly enough. “So how did you meet my daughter?” Ruby asked as he cut up his steak, his eyes never leaving Freckle as he slowly ate his food. His long thin wiry tail coiled like a snake.

“We met at the Little Daisy.” Ivy cut in, “I decided to talk to him first.” She was clearly more eager to prattle on about how they met than Freckle was. Something Ruby most definitely noticed by the small smile that formed on his face as he watched the duo.

“Ivy. If you please let Calvin get a word in.” Ruby chuckled at his daughter's antics, as he drank some water, his tail flicking side to side.

“Sorry Father.” Ivy shoved a piece of bread into her mouth.

“So… I assume you are not here just because you two are friends.” Ruby looked at Freckle, “Am I right?”

“Oh… well…” Freckle gulped. “I wanted to ask for your blessing…” He took a deep breath as he felt Ivy interlock her fingers with his. “I have liked Ivy for a while now… no… I love Ivy. And I would like to marry her and I would like your blessing so I can do that.” Freckle sat awkwardly in his chair, twiddling his thumbs.

“Well… from what I’ve seen and what Ivy has told me… you are a good match up. Considering you can keep up with Ivy.” Ruby nodded. “I give you my blessing.”

“O-Oh…” Freckle blinked, he hadn't expected Ruby to relent so quickly, he had even made a whole speech and list just in case he had to convince him.

“Surprised?” Ruby chuckled. “Ivy has told me you're her only partner to not get attacked by Viktor. So I say you're a good match if even that hard head approves.”

“Thank you…” Freckle blinked, turning to Ivy. “I… I guess we are getting married.” The rest of the dinner went by rather smoothly other than Ivy whispering into his ear.

“You're really good with kittens, you know?” Ivy grinned at him, looking at him through her lashes. “I think you’ll make a great father for our kittens.” It took all of Freckle’s self control to not hide his face in his paws out of embarrassment. Ivy smiled, noticing that he was flustered.

“W-What kittens…” Freckle mumbled as he drank his water.

“The ones we’ll have soon hopefully.” Ivy remarked, making Freckle almost choke on his water. “I mean… you said it yourself… we are getting married.” She teased, looking at him with a sly smile.

“Ivy please.” Freckle whispered as he tried to regain his composure. “I’m not trying to embarrass myself in front of your family.” He tried to act as normal as possible, the only giveaway of his increasing state of flusteredness being his tail that whipped side to side.
