Soul was too awesome so Atsushi had to nerf him by making other characters not realise it😔💔

In the end Kid and Black Star got credited as the strongest people that can defend the world from the kishin. Then Maka got credited as the biggest savior and paragon. Crona got credited as the last-minute spanner in the works. And Soul...got credited for having grown as person (despite the dude also enduring a lot of shit for the sake of everyone and needing to think quickly)

I Think This Chapter Titled 'The Corner Of The Room' Is Interesting Once You Look At It Through The Contrast

I think this chapter titled 'The Corner of the Room' is interesting once you look at it through the contrast between Soul and Crona. Both of them are shown to be showing discomfort and are refusing to open up about something despite their friends being supportive (Soul refusing to play and Crona refusing to seek help about Medusa) but later in the BREW chapters, Soul finally opened up and worked his guts to play the piano in order to try to help everyone, while here Crona slinks further 'into the corner' and continues messing up until they're doomed by the narrative. .

OMG YES, someone talking about parallels between them. Those are interesting character-writing details you guys have pointed out and i wanna add to this.

As an artist, I've been inspired by visuals in soul eater for a long time now, and one day, when i was overanalyzing its character design in my head as usual, I've noticed how Soul and Asura pretty much the only ones who share this colour palette: red, white and black (asura always being drawn with it, and soul has it in his scythe form and when wearing a black blood suit) i started thinking: what do those colours symbolise?

Black and white used together - yin and yang, balance, neutrality; there's good in bad, there's bad in good and a person/character might be balancing on the edge between both of these (this is the most prominent in Kids design, but we are not talking about him rn)

Ok, and.. what about the colour of red? It is very diverse and differentiating in its meanings: on one hand it is fire, destruction, anger, madness, flesh and blood from an open wound, death - so, plenty of stuff that could be associated with the kishin. But on the other - true love, passion, courage, strength, will power, life - soul hitting all the boxes here in my opinion. Im guessing in the end it is an interesting lesson on character design meaning and colour theory - how to make different characters have similarities but also differences, depending on context and meaning you put behind their designs.

And also just reminding you how

1) they are technically been bound by black blood, both having it in their veins

2) i still remember this line dropped by maka, about the possibility of making soul a kishin instead of death scythe, so following the same as asura.

So in the end they feel a lot like two sides if the same coin which is very interesting (but somehow bever addressed in canon bruh)

I think the similarities running between Soul and Asura are interesting. Both were afraid of showing their true selves, in Asura’s case literally wrapping himself with dozens of scarves and for Soul hiding his past and refusing to use his musical ability which was the thing that defined him before becoming a weapon

And they both don’t trust easily but where that distrust eventually destroyed Asura, pushing him to betray and swallow Vajra, and pushed him into becoming a kishin, for Soul he refuses to let that mistrust ruin his relationship with Maka, which I think can most clearly be seen with his interactions with the Wes illusion in the Eibon arc, and they become stronger /together/ because of that

I guess I just really like the parallel and divergence between the two and Soul choosing who he becomes to be than letting fear choose who he will become
