Something neat I found by Youtuber IsabelleChiming, a soundtrack for a game that doesn't exist about a Devil and Angel going across small stages in a mad dash to meet each other in Portland.

What's super impressive is, they composed this in 48 hours. And it's super good.

Senritsu Kaiki File Kowasugi: The Game (RPG Maker) This is a mockup I've had in my sketchbook for a while and thought it'd be fun to finally draw. I had it in mind when I first started watching the Files and by the time I got to #6 I was way too into the idea of a Shiraishi RPG :,))

Epdur - Trailer of a Game that doesn’t exist

This new RPG is about the dream of a knight in a fantasy Renaissance world, in which everyone is masked. He wants to become the greatest hero of all time! ...But is it really worth it?...

In this brand new game, you play as Epdur, the owner of a strange power that makes him able to see spirits and talk to animals. During turn-based battles, he can use the Nima Vision to precisely target some part of the enemy to discover its weak spot. But beware! When an enemy is attacking you, a quick mini-game appears, so you have to be on your toes!

Now go forth! And don’t look behind you, or you’ll be ensnared by the horrific memories of the past, which still haunt you deep in your dreams…

I made this trailer for my first year in video game art. Indeed, this game doesn’t really exist! It was a project to learn pixel art! It was simply amazing to make it and I’ve really improved thanks to it. It's inspired by Renaissance and Medieval History, and by the depths of forgotten French folklore monsters and legends.

Oblique Strategies GB by Nicky Flowers
itch.io
A port of Brian Eno & Peter Schmidt's Oblique Strategies cards for Game Boy and Analogue Pocket, made with GB Studio.

Oblique Strategies GB

Oblique Strategies is a deck of cards designed to help artists break up an art block. Each of the 100+ cards contain a possible action to take or a new way of thinking about a creative problem. They were created by artists Brian Eno and Peter Schmidt in the 70s and have been updated with various new editions over the years.

This is a port of that deck of cards for Game Boy, for some reason.

It was made by me, Nicky Flowers, as a way to learn how GB Studio works. Turns out it works pretty well! I boot up the ROM on my DMG when I get stuck working on music or coding or really anything where I'm creating stuff. I hope you might find it useful too!

Do you like RPGs, music from older anime, and games that don't actually exist? Then this mix is for you!

MartyMcflies compiled more than four hours of music, mostly taken from the soundtracks of various old anime, arrange albums, etc., and compiled them together with the theme of it being the soundtrack to a JRPG. I'd recommend watching it on YouTube itself, as along with timestamps and sources, there are also fake titles that give you a sense of where in the "game" the music would play.

Free Idea for the Vidjagames Industry

A game based on Men’s Life Covers.  Basically, it would be like Far Cry Meets Wolfenstein Meets severe head trauma.

image

Features:

Custom-generated death screens based on your unseemly death.

Dozens of melee and ranged weapon options, including guns, knives, heavy wrenches, an angry weasel.

Dozens of irrationally aggressive animals to lure Nazis into.

Customizable player character voiced by your choice of Nick Offerman or Jenette Goldstein.

Unrealistic health systems replaced by new, even less realistic Bleed-o-Meter. As long as you can still bleed, you can still fight!

Optional Survival system tracks need for food, whiskey, cool one-liners.

Realistically destructible environments, vehicles and shirts.

No microtransactions. You already paid for the cool stuff… IN PAIN!

There’s probably a yeti or dinosaur or something in there, I dunno.

Game Idea: Urban open-world survival game where you play as a suspiciously sapient possum.

Game Idea: Urban Open-world Survival Game Where You Play As A Suspiciously Sapient Possum.

It’s Fallout Meets the Secret of NIMH Meets Untitled Goose Game.

The game is set in a few square blocks of an urban environment, with a mix of survival and stealth mechanics. You have all the standard aspect of a survival game, locating food and resources, building or locating shelter, etc,  Humans, depending on who they are, are likely to be hostile and if they become too aware of you they’ll devote time and resources to hunting you and making your life difficult, destroying your nests, laying traps and the like.

Fortunately, you can see in low light, so the night is a cooly lit world brimming with hiding spots. Daytime, by contrast, is swarming with threats and it’s brightness makes navigation and difficult.

Carefully observing humans can unlock new crafting and skill options, however, making getting near them worth the risk. Early skills fit with abilities a possum might possess, like climbing, playing dead, and opening latches and working door handles. As the game progresses, skills open up like “stand upright”, “craft weapons”, and “imitate human speech.”

You see, you’re not learning, you’re mutating. Through the course of the game, your aberrant intelligence grows and you connect with a network of abnormally intelligent animals to discover why you are the way you are, and what that means for you and the humans whose shadows you hide in.

Features:

Explore a familiar world turned alien through the nocturnal eye of a small, screaming marsupial.

Scavenge the leftovers of civilization without the looming bummer of a nuclear apocalypse.

Alternate playthrough styles including Racoon, Coyote and Skunk, each with different strengths and weaknesses (Racoon has advantages with anything needing hands but is combat-averse. Coyote is good in a fight, is active during the day and is able to work around humans (mistaken for a dog) but is terrible with mobility and crafting. Skunk takes a slight hit on hand-skills but has the spray which is very effective. Draws tons of aggro from humans)

Scavenge, farm, build, steal or fight to survive. Claw your way from scavenger to renowned cryptid, become one special human’s life-changing friend, or reclaim the world in the name of nature’s forgotten. It’s your choice!  Or just wander off to enjoy the survival loops and endlessly torment the human character AI.

Elaborate branching dialog trees but all your lines are just various hisses. This provides no impediment to understanding you.

EDIT: Cover mock-up, I couldn’t resist.

Suzanne Treister 1991-1992 Fictional Videogame Stills

In the late 1980s I was making paintings about computer games. In January 1991 I bought an Amiga computer and made a series of fictional videogame stills using Deluxe Paint II. I photographed them straight from the screen as there was no other way to output them that I knew of apart from through a very primitive daisy wheel printer where they appeared as washed out dots.

The effect of the photographs perfectly reproduced the highly pixellated, raised needlepoint effect of the Amiga screen image. Conceptually this means of presentation was also appropriate in that it made it seem like I had gone into a videogame arcade and photographed the games there, lending authenticity to the fiction.

The first seven works on this page form a series titled, ‘Q. Would you recognise a Virtual Paradise?’

Many of these works were shown in London at the Edward Totah Gallery in March 1992 (view installation) and later that year at the Exeter Hotel in Adelaide, Australia. In 1995 the ‘Q. Would you recognise a Virtual Paradise?’ series was shown in London at the Royal Festival Hall in the exhibition It’s a Pleasure, curated by Leah Kharibian.

Recent venues: Somerset House, London, 2018 view installation ; Akron Art Museum, Ohio, USA 2019 and tour; Moderna Museet, Stockholm, Sweden, 2019/20 view installation

The original Amiga floppy disks which stored the image files are corrupt, but the photographic art works remain.
