one of my favorite things about the h2g2 series is how much arthur just does what other ppl want him to do. we don’t even really know what arthur actually wants bc everything he does—even the things he thinks he wants—is an idea put in his head by someone else. most of it is blatant, like ford telling arthur what to do or arthur following along with fenchurch, but the subtleties of douglas adams’ writing in regards to the things arthur ‘wants’ is so good. arthur’s internal dialogue tells him he wants this—he wants to stop traveling, he wants to settle down, he wants to go back to earth—but his actual behavior always betrays him. as soon as he gets what he ‘wants,’ arthur becomes bored. every time. he looks for the next distraction and clings to it. he’s never been happy on earth not once in the series, but he tells himself he is. it’s not like he’s happy out in space either though. when he tries settling down in mostly harmless he can’t bear it. he doesn’t stop traveling until he’s forced to and stuck on lamuella where he convinces himself for years that he’s happy there, but he only tries to convince himself bc he doesn’t think he has another option. it’s only when trillian arrives and informs arthur that there were always ppl out there who could’ve saved him but chose not to that arthur becomes upset about his situation.
i don’t think this behavior makes arthur suitable for hitchiking even though he’s good at it, but i think it’s about arthur’s concept of security. he does what he’s told bc it makes him feel safe. he held on to his robe for so long bc it made him feel secure. he grows attached to his wristwatch in mostly harmless bc it makes him feel tethered. arthur attaches himself to items or ideas that he believes are stable. arthur doesn’t need to settle down, he just needs security.
Ecosocialist praxis

So real
I hate when I say things like "oh I want an ipod classic but with bluetooth so I can use wireless headphones" and some peanut comes in and replies with "so a smartphone with spotify?" No. I want a 160GB+ rectangular monstrosity where I can download every version of every song I want to it and it does nothing except play music and I don't need a data connection and don't have to pay a subscription to not have ads and don't have popups suggesting terrible AI playlists all over the menus.
Gimme the clicky wheel and song titles like "My Chemical Romance- The Black Parade- Blood (Bonus Track)- secret track- album rip- high quality"
"Aria Medical is a medication abortion clinic serving people traveling from abortion ban states, like Texas and Oklahoma. We are located in Kansas. We want to make sure people know they are not alone -- that there is help available. Some people with undesired pregnancies don't even know where to start looking, and if they google "how to find an abortion," they often get anti-abortion clinic advertisements."

From the org:
"The end of Roe created a public health emergency for people in 14 states that ban abortion.
Aria Medical launched in January 2023 to expand capacity in Kansas for the thousands of people from Texas, Oklahoma and other states who must leave home to get an abortion.
Aria served over 3100 people in the first year.
90% of Aria patients are very low income, and need financial support to cover their costs.
Aria’s biggest funder is closing down operations in September.
Aria seeks one-time and sustaining donors to ensure they never turn away a patient because they cannot pay."

Several things:
This is in Peru so this shows that the pattern of religious figures abusing children is an international issue, not just an American problem
This guy shares the same views as most pro-lifers regarding things like "gender ideology" (since apparently supporting gay people means pedophilia but his actual behavior was ok, I guess?)
The Peruvian justice system didn't hold this man accountable when he was accused of doing the same thing to his own sister in the 90s
Why does everyone watch these ten-minute woke cringe compilations? Why don't they just follow me? My whole life is a woke cringe compilation!
