Gothic Western Is One Of My Favorite Sub-genres To Sit With And Enjoy. Now, I Have Started Preacher Based

Gothic Western is one of my favorite sub-genres to sit with and enjoy. Now, I have started Preacher based on several recommendations but when I went to watch it Netflix played the last episode first and I was ignorant to the fact until pretty far in, so I had the a lot of the ending spoiled. I want to go back but I find the motivation hard to find. Also, special mention to Penny Dreadful and Supernatural for being super formative for Dead West but neither really sits firmly within Western Gothic.

Alive and thriving! Some recommendations but know there are dozens if not hundreds of amazing shows being produced TODAY. It is a great time to dive in and find a new favorite and follow along. Hi Nay: Supernatural horror fiction podcast with a Filipina protagonist and Filipino supernatural elements. It has multiple BIPOC LGBTQ+ characters, and primarily takes place in Toronto

The Grotto: a liminal horror podcast with original music and a full cast that explores the thin line between grief, pain, mourning, and loss. Follow Matt who turns to spelunking for solace. As Matt battles grief, he questions if the caves are playing tricks or if something else lurks within Re:Dracula: takes the famous horror tale, breaks it up chronologically (every entry of this epistolary novel has a date), and sends the story directly to your podcatcher as it happens. Every time something happens to the characters, Re: Dracula will publish an episode, in real time. Some entries will be brief, and others will be long and intense.

Silt Verses: In this horror/fantasy serial drama, Carpenter and Faulkner, two worshippers of an outlawed god, travel up the length of their deity’s great black river, searching for holy revelations. Dead West (self promo): a horror fiction podcast that blends folk horror and weird western themes told in a re-imagined American Wild West. Follow Conrad as he sheds light on the creatures that lurk in the shadows.

Malevolent: Arkham Private Investigator Arthur Lester wakes up with no memory of who he is or what has happened, only a nameless, eerie voice guiding him through the darkness.

Are audio drama podcasts, horror podcasts, etc still in vogue?

I remember them being everywhere in college, TBT, Tannis, Limetown, White Vault, King Falls, Bright Sessions etc but i feel like, at least in my friend group, there's been no discussion of anything new in years.

#do it #it is a fun listen so far #holmwood foundation

LISTEN TO THE HOLMWOOD FOUNDATION EPISODE ONE!

Now our Kickstarter is over, have a fresh link to our pilot to tide you over until the rest of season one arrives!

Hoping to release some fun snippets and extras on our feed as we go, so please be sure to follow us on Spotify, or anywhere else you get your podcasts!

WHAT IS THE HOLMWOOD FOUNDATION?

Our story follows Jeremy Larkin (Played by Sean Carlsen) and Maddie Townsend (Played by Rebecca Root), two co-workers at the mysterious Holmwood Foundation, as they are possessed by the ghosts of Jonathan and Mina Harker, and embark on a road trip across the country in an effort to achieve their ghost's wishes: to stop Dracula once and for all.

This is a story about identity and self discovery, family loyalty and devotion, all wrapped around a nightmare of a road trip with a rejuvenating severed head, incredibly sincere Victorian ghosts, and an analogue recorder

Reviews for Episode One:

Purple Background, the Holmwood Logo and 1 rows of 5 stars. “Specifically good frightening food based in the book Dracula that’s actually interesting and grows out of the original story rather than shrugging its way through another Sexified Count rewrite. Plus it’s archival horror! The best kind—got to keep the nightmares properly categorized and filed. I can’t wait for this series!”
“This is special I can feel it. It’s easy for one to roll their eyes when they see a modern day sequel to a beloved classic. It’s happened so many times with soulless movies and tv episodes but my god this has to be probably my favourite modern day sequel to any Dracula. You can really feel the love that the whole team had for this project. Full of soul and character and some very clever nods to the original prose. I really do hope we get more. This vampire fanatic is very happy!”
Purple Background, the Holmwood Logo and 2 rows of 5 stars. Review 1: “Voice acting is exceptional and there is intriguing story and characters, only the first episode is out right now but I'm very excited for more!” Review 2: “I'm so so excited for this show!!” Reviews from Podcast Addict

PSA for podcast and audio drama creators:

If you publish a new episode of your show and it never shows up on Spotify, *do not panic*.

If you're using any kind of background music, it might've gotten flagged by their copyrighted content scanner. If it has, they do not notify you directly about it. Instead, they will notify your podcast hosting platform (i.e. Buzzsprout, Acast, Podbean, etc.)

If your new episode doesn't show up on Spotify within an hour or two (as it normally does), here's what you should do:

Create a video of your podcast and upload it privately to YouTube.

Check the 'Restrictions' column of the Content page in YouTube Studio. If the video you uploaded has 'Copyright' in this column, something was flagged and this is the problem. (In my experience, YouTube and Spotify's scanners are aligned).

Hover over where it says 'Copyright' and click the 'See Details' button. This will tell you what got flagged.

Confirm whether this content was legitimately flagged or not. If it was (meaning you can't prove that you have rights to use the music), it's time to replace the track and reupload your episode. (You'll still want to do the following steps after you do that). If wasn't, it's time to document why the flagging was in error. In Metropolis' case, we use a lot of pre-1924 music that is in the public domain per Title II of the US Music Modernization Act of 2018. But rights holders are notorious for not removing things that have aged into the public domain from their claims list. That means we have clear rights to use the music (as does anybody: again, public domain!), but we still have to go through the appeals process.

Contact your hosting provider to get the notice email from Spotify Content Protection. You need to ask their support team if they've received an email for your show from Spotify with a Subject line of "Possibly Infringing - Notification Warning - Claim xxx - ref:_xxx". It usually takes about 30 minutes to an hour for them to receive that notification from when the episode was uploaded. Within the email, there's a unique link to appeal the decision. Note that you only get five days to appeal - procrastination is definitely not your friend here!

Use the Appeal Link from the Email to file an Appeal Notice If you click the link, it will take you to a form to appeal the decision not to post the episode. This is where you need to present your case by either that you've replaced the music in question, or that you have a right to use it. If it's the latter - make sure you present the case as thoroughly and completely as possible (with links and references). (You'll also want to confirm that the track that YouTube spotted is the one that Spotify flagged.)

From my experience, Spotify will usually respond 24-36 hours.

If you took the right steps, it'll usually be a short note that they've published the episode and you're in the clear.

Cheers, and happy creating!

Another (4) 1-stars. At This Point It Really Doesn't Feel Worth It To Keep The Show Up Since It Wont

Another (4) 1-stars. At this point it really doesn't feel worth it to keep the show up since it wont be seen by anyone on Spotify for all this negative engagement out the door. They have done the same on Apple but I assume that since Apple Pods is tied to your phone number they cant abuse the system in the same way. Sigh. I just wanna tell little ghost stories.

Why you should listen to Metropolis

Metropolis is a retro sci fi story in which most of the world is heavily impoverished following a war. Most, but not one city. Metropolis, a city in the clouds, is occupied by the world's richest and is utopic. The main character is a journalist whose best friend was invited to Metropolis to report on its excellence. But he starts digging too far and stops answering her letters, prompting her to go out and find him.

Why you should listen in no particular order:

FRIENDSHIP. HELLO I LOVE NAN AND STANLEY WITH MY WHOLE HEART.

Retro sci fi is SUCH a cool genre and not one I had really experienced before. The setting is in the 1920s, and for the Metropolites there are robots and force shields and machines that can send your telegraphs for you.

The tone. They strike a really good balance of humor along with the darker elements of the story.

Cathartic yelling

Allies with Animosity

The Ceaseless Grind

The Ceaseless Grind

Working out some frustration in some design work today. I like this WIP alright enough, might try and find better elements to play with but it was at a point that I figured i'd share it. I normally just photobash or throw some elements I like into Affinity, do some blending work, color correct, and call it a day. Still trying to work on my own design work but drawing/conceptualizing images from nothing is a place in need of improvement on my end.

Yaaaassss! Love it.

A mood board for Englewood After Dark where the dominant colours are blacks, browns and gold-yellows. There are several pictures: books in a stack; a white theatre mask with someone sushing themself, aspen trees with knots that look like eyes, a silhouette in a corridor, a ouija board, old grecian collumns. Below is a stylised tarot card depicting the Tower and an Aspen leaf. The text reads Englewood After Dark Mood Board, for the cosiest horror.

Inspired by our friends over at @dead-west-podcast we made a little mood board for ourselves.
