Against White Feminism, Notes on Disruption

This book found me at an important time. I've found that mainstream feminism, advocated for by white women, doesn't always consider the experiences and needs of women of color. Which begs the question, if you claim to want justice and parity for all women, why does your brand of feminism only benefit women that look like you? This led me to explore the origins of feminism and its relevance to women of color, which prompted me to pick up this book on a trip to the bookstore one afternoon. I am so glad that I did! I would argue that this book is essential reading for anyone interested in feminism, whether new to the topic or well-versed in women's studies.  It has the power to educate and engage with new feminists, while also challenging those who consider themselves established feminists. That's the point of it. The author wants us to do exactly that, challenge ourselves to rethink and dismantle what we thought we had figured out. I plan to revisit this book. There were so many points that I resonated with and learned a lot from. Overall I rate this book an 8/10!!

Where do I even begin with this duology? Although I haven’t read a lot of fantasy literature, this series has truly become the best I’ve ever encountered. The story unfolds in the kingdom of Blunder, a realm shrouded in thickening fog with a deep and complex history tied to magic. The citizens have a unique way of accessing this magic, which only adds to the intrigue. As I delved deeper into the chapters, my fascination grew with Elspeth’s lore and her family’s history. The author provided just enough details for world-building without overwhelming the reader. I became completely absorbed in the world I conjured in my mind. It was mysterious, gothic, and cold; the suffocating fog created a constant sense of danger, yet it remained hauntingly beautiful. I would rate this series a 7.5/10!!
