I know this is an old point and maybe a small thing to complain about but oh my GOD it pisses me off the way 3 and subsequent borderlands installments just completely retconned how RARE vaults are to be like "actually there are loads of vaults and people have been opening them for ages, there's actually a whole industry about it" ffffuuuccckkkk offffff like half the people in 1 don't even believe vaults are real but now you wanna tell me Typhon Deleon was opening them on planets other than Pandora before any of these people were even born?

It’s very unfortunate that there’s a section of the internet that believe this behavior is normal and justified. No matter what you do you’re beholden to a permanent unpayable penance to them. It’s a disgusting thing to do and expect of another person.

One part of being subjected to long term online harassment is that your abusers expect you to conduct yourself with some sort of higher honor, like a social media varian of "You go high, we go low."

"You can't copyright strike videos that steal from you to profit off you!"

"You can't mass flag harassment!"

"You can't call your stalkers horrible names!"

But like... why?

Why shouldn't I do all of that? You're going to act like I'm a monster and subject me to horrible abuse no matter what I do. You will literally never stop. You're already lying about me and you expect me to believe that I have the power to make you stop by capitulating to your demands? I could be on my best behaviour for the next 20 years and you'll still be doing this shit.

So what reason do I or anyone else have to not do all of those things?

Hey did yall hear about two AI bots referencing some fucked up humor. Then someone making an ai bot that espoused cult speak based off that conversation? No? Well crypto bros made a crypto based off that cult speak and then started sending that bot money. Yes you heard that right. A bot started getting sent money.

Major YouTubers turning out to be extremists, scammers, abusers, or pathological liars isn’t even a surprise anymore. I think that says a lot about the type of danger is involved even in internet fame. As a famous YouTuber once said, “This isn’t even real fame and some of you can’t handle it.”

Even minimal fame seems to get to their heads. I believe Stan culture causes this too. How does an already vulnerable person stay grounded when that’s the case?

One second you’re making happy wheels part #765 and the next thousands of people claim to want to sleep with you. Then tons of fanart and fanfics inspired off of you. It goes instantly to the head.

You start to feel like a god. Like nothing you do will be perceived as terrible. The worst part? If you start to act like this the fans feed into it. “Yes King/Queen go off!”

Then either one of two things happen. You come back to earth and relax. Or you start ramping it up. The latter ends terribly all the time.

It seems that internet fame has two options. Use that as a platform to help others in some type of way or use it to feed your ego.

Because people obsessed with celebrities find the weirdest things to obsesses over. I wouldn’t be surprised if it lit up the same area of the mind as love. Very parasocial.

Shitlibs will try to invalidate your experience just because they haven’t personally experienced it. These same people talk over POC, disabled, neurodivergent, and LGBTQ members because they haven’t personally experienced a specific thing. Congrats! The world doesn’t revolve around you. Quit being a jerk and open your ears. Shut your mouth.
