EnNatsu | The Whole Journey

I see a lot of people saying that EnNatsu came out of nowhere. As one of the biggest shipper pf this fic, I decided to compile the standout EnNatsu moments and see exactly how much they developed through out all the three seasons of the OG series.

The first episode introduces both characters and their dynamic effectivey. Natsumi threatens to disband the soccer club if they don't win against Teikoku Gakuen in their first ever match, which obviously makes Endou angry — so much so that he's fuming even when talking to the team.

This scene sets the tone for most of their initial interactions going forward: they bicker and push each other's buttons even as they slowly start to strive for the same goal. Natsumi is condescending at times but she also helps the team in her own way, and Endou is generally a happy person, but no one can annoy him like Natsumi can.

It's subtle but as Natsumi slowly becomes integrated into the team, they start having some more friendlier interactions even aside from Natsumi informing them about the matches and stuff.

Slowly, they become friends.

Their bickering also becomes more friendly instead of being just about Natsumi threatening to disband the club or about Natsumi picking at Endou's passion for soccer.

Like at the end of episode 16 when Endou and Aki visit Natsumi and her father in the hospital.

Natsumi immediately notices Endou's injury and is genuinely happy to hear that the team won their match, two things she never would have done in the start of the season.

The argument that comes after it is about Endou misunderstanding Natsumi's words, and it's more laid-back than their arguments in the start of the season when Natsumi would threaten to disband the club or pick at Endou's overenthusiastic passion for soccer. It's nothing but friendly bickering between friends, showing how far they've come in their friendship since the beginning even if they are very much still the same people.

Then we have this scene in episode 19.

Natsumi, who's visiting her father in the hospital and feeling melancholic because it's a hospital and her father is admitted in it, sees the tower near which Endou always practices and goes there on a whim. And when she gets there, she automatically envisions Endou practicing as usual.

When Endou sees her there, he can tell at first glance that something's btohering her, even if she says that things are getting better. And what does he do? He takes her to his favorite spot and reminds her that she isn't alone.

I believe this is the moment where Natsumi really developed her crush. Before this, their whole dynamic was "enemies to friends" and now they're moving on to the "friends to lovers" bit.

Endou, of course, doesn't see it that way just yet, and I doubt even Natsumi sees her crush as a crush, but this is the moment where it actually starts.

POV: Hefty

It was lunch time, and I was talking to Brainy, an old childhood friend of mine, then at some point my younger brother Clumsy arrived, and told us what had happened to him that morning which in short was that he had been besieged by a group of bullies, it made me furious and I told them how a girl is, we saved him and who said he had also glimpsed her in the garden of the institute, so he brought us the and as soon as Clumsy greeted a raven-haired girl tied in a ponytail.

when the girl turned around I was enchanted, she was really very beautiful, but she also looked very tired which in my opinion gave her a certain effect... I don't know what it is but I stared at her for a few seconds, but the more I looked at her I thought I had already seen her but I thought it was just my feeling until she introduced herself with a beautiful smile, she said her name come on I remember where she is at the time...

Flashback

A couple of weeks ago I was near a strip club, more precisely an alley, and after a while I saw two guys enter and I heard them giggling and it seemed strange to me so I thought: so I'm getting closer to the entrance of the alley and I saw the two boys surrounding a girl who told me that she seemed to be part of the club, which made me angry and I never tolerated injustice.

so he calls me with a determined step to two assholes who dared to touch a person without his permission, then it's obvious that people choose the bear instead of the man, then as soon as he finds me behind two I told him "leave her alone, now "the two turn around with at first a proud and arrogant look which as soon as I raise my eyes to meet mine, they become scary and so they run out of the alley with me behind me who throw them fiery looks of pure hatred.

then I turn towards the girl and I notice that she is without clothes, that is, she is only wearing underwear, I wonder what those two boys would have done to her, then I notice that she is looking for her clothes on the floor so, so as not to leave her without anything on, I give her the sweatshirt that I was wearing at that time moment and at first she was scared and perhaps confused by my gesture, she smiled when I handed her my sweatshirt and helped her look for her clothes, through all this we remained silent, then when we found the white top and the fake black leather miniskirt of the girl finally breaks the silence and says "thank you so much, I don't know what I would have done without your help" with a low and sweet tone of voice, then I enter a door of the room reserved for the staff , after a while I hear a friend of mine's voice clarifying me and I go back to him.

And flashback

"WAKE UP HEFTY!!" it was Brainy's voice calling me as he shook his hand in front of my face, so I made my friend move sharply and I realized that I was staring at the girl, whose name is Smurfette, because both her and my brother and the my friend stares at me with a strange and worried face.

"Sorry, what were we talking about? I was thinking about soccer practice later" I say using the first lie that comes to mind as I rub my head with the left boulder, " we met one of the bravest girls I've ever met!" Clumsy responds with a half-pout angry at me for not paying attention to the conversation.

and sorry if it's short, it's also because I haven't updated the story for a while 😭

I love the drawing (it's literally perfect for them), even the symbol is perfect for their narrative arc together😭😭

Kisaku for my bi-monthly ship art quota. I wanted to draw another piece to be posted together but I've been physically burnt out lately so I made a no Kidou goggles file instead. Heh

This doubles as a character analysis art so I will write down my thought process under a read more. It's very christian so if you're not comfortable it's okay to not read it

I had been having the idea of making a Kisaku art with christian imaginery since early January, but I only managed to sketch a good composition for it last week.

This art is based on a post-Shin Teikoku arc scene that's also one that's very memorable for me. Like, it's just a very tender and profound one, especially when one can see Kidou's hand holding Sakuma's tighter after Sakuma told him he can't shake his hand. I also referenced the scene when Sakuma faints right before the match end whistle.

Another thought that inspired this was the christian concept of being saved from sin and its consenquences by Jesus' death and resurrection (salvation); which is pretty much what happened to Sakuma in this arc. Sakuma fell to the temptation of the aliea meteorite (sin), but it's Kidou's love that saved him from destroying himself physically and mentally (salvation).

An interesting part from Shin Teikoku arc was that while it ends with Sakuma and Genda being saved, Kidou came out becoming even more traumatized especially after seeing what happened to his friends and hearing Kageyama's words. And that's without mentioning that he also witnesses Someoka's sacrifice.

Kidou and Sakuma are two people who feel deeply yet tenderly for each other so I wanted it to show in the colors and rendering. I used colors that could remind someone of the dawn. I wanted to color in low contrast but the initial palette hurt my eyes (physically) so I ended up opting with shading with only highlight, with the soft light peeking through behind the pair. Subtlety was all I was aiming, so I tried to draw Kidou's expression that could express it too.

The text on the background is,

What is Salvation? Salvation is... to be saved from sin, and its consenquences from death, and eternal separation by your cross.

The text was thought and written by stream of consciousness, unlike the drawing where I worked on it precisely unlike my usual drawing style. Initially I wrote it by hand to see where should I type the text but I found that handwriting conveys the emotions in a rawer form so I went with it.

I also free style-ed the text's content because NGL, scrolling through christian articles and wikipedia pages gave me religious trauma based anxiety so I let my instinct and write whatever came to mind.

I was torn between "crucifix" and "cross" as I wanted a word to replace "love and suffering". I went with "cross" because crucifix is used to specifically refer to the cross Jesus was crucified on and the portrayal of it. For people, the word used is "cross" (referring to the christian concept of carrying one's cross). Kidou is very much associated with pedestalism, even Kageyama saw him in an idealized manner of a perfect creation to bring him back to his childhood. But despite everything Kidou is only human, and he's as sinful everyone else.

I had so much fun working with this piece, and I think I'm more satisified than I was with my previous character analysis art. I hope I could do more of this type of works in future.

this is my version (on gacha life 2) of Twinkle from the playmobil super 4.

headcanon:

1) when Alex met her for the first time she was 14 and a half years old but she lies by saying that she was 16 like him.

2) sometimes Ruby gets her hair dyed by her.

3) during a fight her wand broke, after asking the big fairy to fix it she replied that she couldn't do anything to fix it, so Twinkle decided to go and visit her aunt Melissa to see if she could fix it she replied the same as the big one fairy a Fairy but gave Twinkle a magic package.

4) when she went to Kingsland for the first times, some knights annoyed her, in fact she hated going around the castle alone.

5) she is bisexual, with preferences for boys.

6) has a romantic reaction with Alex.

7) before getting engaged to Alex, Twinkle had a sort of emotional attraction towards Ruby (who is a lesbian and Ace).

8) she have ADHD

her family history: her family has a particular history because her great-great-grandmother (Star sea) was a pirate, (this was my conjecture as in one episode a woman very similar to Twinkle was depicted in a photo) when Twinkle's great-grandmother (Celeste) decided that the life of a pirate would have been if it were not for her, he fled to the Enchanted Island where he met a destiny (a male fairy) and they fell in love, a little girl named Luna was born.

After a heavy argument with her parents over her friendship with a wizard, Luna ran away and met the wizard again who raped her.

After what happened, Luna returns crying to her parents and tells of two twins, one named Astra who was a fairy and the other named Melissa who was a sorceress.

Astra was reckless and sociable, while Melissa was very quiet and reserved. Years later, a hunter saw Astra bathing in a river, and extremely fascinated by the beauty of the fairy, they approached the water and when Astra noticed the presence of the man, she looked at him with an almost challenging and provocative look that induced the man to take off his clothes and enter the water.

after that event the two began to see each other regularly and became lovers.

Astra was very happy to have a man by her side who loved her and made her feel safe, but her sister didn't like the hunter but didn't say anything to her.

a few years after their union, a blue-haired girl was born and they decided to call her Twinkle.

However, a year after her birth Twinkle was orphaned of both parents, her father was killed by some knights and her mother committed suicide out of desperation, after which her aunt Melissa decided to take her to the fairy castle.

And after a few years Melissa discovered that Twinkle had been chased away by the fairies, she decided to take her and decided that she would protect her at all costs.

And when she saw Twinkle leave with the super 4, it broke her heart but she knew she had to let her go.
