a/n: this is a longggggg one but it was so much fun writing it! i hope you all enjoy :)

Masterlist

you leaned against the cold wall with your arms crossed, waiting patiently for your brother seok-chan. having a brother who was a crow platoon member had its perks. the main one being, he would get you things that you needed when he went on expeditions.

this time was like no other, you had asked him for some new shoes and low and behold, seok-chan walked towards you with a pair in hand.

“do you know the trouble we went through to get you these?” he complained and you sent him a sweet but cheeky smile.

“thank you to my favourite brother and of course his lovely platoon members” you said the last part loud enough so some of the other platoon member could hear you.

“yeah yeah whatever, im your only brother” seok-chan playfully rolled his eyes and handed the shoes to you before wrapping you in a hug.

“im glad you’re back here safe and sound” you were being more serious now. you always worried when he went on these expeditions.

“i told you that i’d keep seok-chan safe and bring him back each time” yeong-hu appeared and tapped his friend on the shoulder.

“thank you very much sergeant kim. i hope he behaved himself” you playfully pinched seok-chan and he furrowed his eyebrows while dramatically rubbing his arm, acting like he was in pain.

“im always on my best behaviour, right sarge?” seok-chan straightened himself up and yeong-hu chuckled.

“if you say so” he let out a low laugh “anyway, i have other things to do. catch you both later”

you waved him a quick goodbye and then you and seok-chan made your way to the area where you stayed.

“ah, now i can relax” seok-chan let out an exaggerated sigh as he jumped onto his bed.

“no shoes on your bed, you know that! mum taught you better, it doesn’t matter if the world basically ended ” you threw your pillow on him and he groaned before kicking his boots off.

you smiled to yourself as you noticed him close his eyes. he was definitely tired.

you then sat on the edge of your own bed staring down at your current shoes. they were on their last legs. the sole had completely separated and the shoelaces were basically mere pieces of ripped string.

you didn’t waste time and took them off, chucking them to the side and slipping on your new shoes.

god, they felt so comfortable.

“thank you seok-chan!” you called out, appreciative of them.

seok-chan mumbled in his sleep and you jumped up and began to test them out. jumping up and down, sprinting on the spot and checking they definitely fit. mid-way through your tests, there was a knock at your door.

you paused what you were doing and opened the door. standing there, was yeong-hu. he had his hands in his pockets and when he saw you he quickly took them out.

“sergeant kim, how can i help?” you asked and he cleared his throat before speaking.

“y/n, is seok-chan there? i need to speak with him” yeong-hu looked behind your shoulder briefly.

“ah, he’s sleeping at the moment” you moved slightly so that he could get a better view of your sleeping brother.

“that’s fine, can you let him know when he wakes up that he needs to come to the briefing room so i can speak to him”

“will do” you nodded your head “do you want me to tell him anything else?”

yeong-hu shook his head to say no before looking down at your new shoes.

“oh and nice shoes y/n. looking good” he smirked slightly and you felt your cheeks warm up so, you quickly thanked him before closing your room door.

another few days quickly passed. your brother was due to go on another expedition and you were thinking about what to ask for. there were a couple of things that you needed but you needed to ask for the thing you needed the most so, you were sat trying to figure that out.

“what’s on your mind?” chan-young who was a member of the platoon asked as he took a seat next to you.

“im trying to figure out what to ask seok-chan to get me when he’s on his next expedition” you explained, showing chan-young your notebook with your list of 5 items.

“why would you need a turtle plushie?” he examined the list and let out a laugh.

“it wouldn’t be for me. it would be for sergeant kim, he’s always so kind to me and i want to gift him something”

“but, why a turtle?”

“he’s like a turtle don’t you think? hard on the outside but soft on the inside. he would do anything for the people he cares about even though he acts tough”

“huh, that’s pretty accurate actually. but why not just ask for everything on the list? im sure your brother wouldn’t mind getting all the items on there” chan-young raised an eyebrow.

“it wouldn’t be fair to ask for so much. would it?” you closed your notebook.

“you never know unless you try” he then jumped up “im going to get prepared for roll call, good luck with your list”

“thank you” you called out before opening your notebook once more and ripping the page with the list out.

you swiftly folded it up and went to look for your brother.

you checked all the usual areas but you just couldn’t find him. the only place left would be the platoon briefing room. you approached the room and gently knocked on the door.

“come on in” sergeant kim said aloud and you entered.

“sorry to disturb, i just needed to greet my brother before you all left” you apologised as all eyes were on you.

“that’s fine, we were just wrapping up so seok-chan you can step outside for a minute if need be” yeong-hu nodded his head.

seok-chan went to the side with you.

“good luck out there, make sure to come back in one piece” you smiled giving him a hug.

“will do sis, take care okay? also what do you want me to bring back for you?”seok-chan said and you handed him the paper.

“hopefully everything on there but if not, you can choose just one to bring back”

“of course, bye now” seok-chan quickly rushed away as the platoon members were now leaving to the vehicles.

yeong-hu was waiting at the door for him, you watched as seok-chan and him exchanged a few words. yeong-hu then sent you a smile and you waved before he disappeared through the door.

as the day went on, you did things to fill your day as you anxiously waited for the crow platoon to return. but as it got later and later, you couldn’t help but be worried. the platoon were never late to return and it was pushing past midnight.

despite trying to think happy thoughts, the worst outcomes kept on filling your head. so, you tried to distract yourself some more.

more time went on and they still hadn’t returned. you waited by the area in which they’d enter once they returned. you tried asking chan-young to give you updates but he was under strict orders to not say a word.

“don’t worry, they’ll be back soon. im sure of it” chan-young was waiting with you.

he knew you needed some company.

“they should’ve been back hours ago. what if something bad happened?” you gulped.

chan-young was never the best with comforting so he just waited with you. you appreciated it.

after some time, the sound of tires and yelling voices could be heard and soon enough the platoon members who were on the expedition were back but there was something wrong.

“hurry, he needs to get medical treatment!” yeong-hu’ voice was urgent as they entered through the door.

two platoon members were carrying someone who was unconscious and there was blood on their hands.

your heart dropped when you realised it was your brother that they were carrying.

“seok-chan!” you screamed as they all rushed towards the infirmary. you followed but once they entered the infirmary chan-young held you back.

“let go of me! i need to see my brother” you yelled, tears welling in your eyes.

“y/n, they need to treat him. you can’t go in” he explained.

“but he’s my brother! what if-” you couldn’t even finish the sentence as you stopped resisting and froze.

“that won’t happen , they’ll treat him and he’ll be back to health in no time” chan-young had finally let go of you.

silence filled the air as a million different thoughts consumed you. you sat on the floor and leaned against the wall near the door to the infirmary. your knees brought up to your chest as you waited. tears were streaming down your face and you picked the skin from your fingers.

some time passed and chan-young had to do his platoon duties so he had to leave you. you were all alone now.

that was until you heard footsteps approach.

when you looked up to see who it was you saw yeong-hu. he looked like he had been crying and had some blood from a wound on the side of his face, his upper arm had a large slash on it and his hands had blood on them.

“y/n..” he managed to breath out “im so sorry, it’s all my fault”

you wiped your tears and slowly stood up.

“what do you mean?” your voice was a whisper.

“seok-chan. i asked him to cover me as i explored an area of the mall we were at and the monster it came from no where. it just- it had claws and they were then just in him and we struggled to kill it. it just kept trying to- if i hadn’t asked him to cover me then maybe he wouldn’t be hurt. im sorry i couldn’t bring him back unharmed. im sorry” yeong-hu was holding back tears as he tried explaining what happened.

you couldn’t understand why he was apologising. it wasn’t his fault at all. monsters can just appear out of nowhere sometimes. everyone knew that. never would you blame him for your brother being badly injured.

“sergea- yeong-hu, it’s not your fault” a tear fell from your eye “you did all that you could, im grateful for that”

“i know, but i should’ve been able to keep him safe from getting injured. im really so sorry” yeong-hu apologised again.

you shook your head “dont apologise, its not your fault. really, im thankful for everything you’ve ever done”

without warning you wrapped your arms around his upper torso. he was taken aback by this and winced in pain slightly which caused you to step back.

“you’re hurt” you looked at yeong-hu closely and realised how bad his injuries were.

“i’ll be fine.” he tried to play it off but you shook your head.

“come with me” you told yeong-hu before quickly turning to look at the infirmary room door one last time- with hope that when you would be back later, that you’d be allowed in to see your brother.

he hesitated but you had taken his hand in yours. leading him to yours and seok-chan’ room.

you had some medical supplies in your room from the times, you had patched your brother up after certain expeditions. luckily, you knew first aid really well so you were quite skilful with certain medical procedures.

when you entered, you made yeong-hu sit in the edge of your bed. you weren’t bothered about getting the sheets dirty and got out the first aid kit.

a calm silence filled the room as you began to clean out the wound he had on the side of his head. and although, he was in pain yeong-hu kept up his tough face as you then stitched up the slash on his arm.

once done he sent you quick appreciative smile and the two of you never spoke a single word as you then brought some wipes to wipe the blood that was on his hands.

you gulped as you felt yeong-hu’ ínstense stare on you. he examined every inch of your face. how your eyebrows furrowed because you were so focused, how you constantly rubbed your lips together and how your eyelashes fluttered each time you blinked. your touch was so gentle and caring as you took your time wiping the blood off of his hands. he felt cared for.

yeong-hu continued to stare you as you finished off what you were doing, you were conscious of his eyes in you and when you looked at him and linked eyes, he quickly averted his eyes elsewhere. pretending to not have been looking at you. you cleared your throat and stepped back.

“there you go, how do you feel?” you gathered all the waste and shoved it into an empty plastic bag that you had.

“thank you y/n” yeong-hu stood up “i-“

just as he was about to continue, the room door flew open.

“seok-chan is awake!” a platoon member yelled and immediately you both ran to the infirmary.

in the infirmary bed, seok-chan was barely conscious. he had loads of bandages on him and he had an oxygen mask on.

“my favourite brother” you jokingly said with a sad smile before putting your hand on his.

he let out a small smile and tried to speak but you shook your head.

“you need rest” you then stood back as yeong-hu wanted to see seok-chan too.

“sarge” seok-chan managed to croak out and yeong-hu gave him a stern look.

“make sure to rest up, i’ll need my best soldier back” yeong-hu nodded his head “i’ll be back later to check on you”

without saying anything more he then walked out the infirmary. you were confused. you thought he was going to say more but, then of course it was yeong-hu and he was very unpredictable.

you stayed in the infirmary until seok-chan fell asleep. you then decided to head back to your own room but you took seok-chan’ bloodied uniform with you. you were going to wash it for him so that when he was better, he had uniform ready.

some of the items were not salvageable but you the main ones were. as you moved to wash his cargos, you felt something in his pocket. it was small and round and when you pulled it out, you saw what it was. a pocket-size turtle plushie.

you couldn’t help but let out a chuckle as you placed the plushie aside before finishing off the washing. once you were done, you hung the washing up to dry in a corner of your room.

you held the turtle plushie in your hand, gently stroking the soft fabric. a sigh escaped your lips, you just wanted things to go back to how it was.

you were sat on your bed, it smelt like yeong-hu. his scent was very distinctive, it was usually very musky which was now also mixed with the smell of blood.

you’d always found him attractive and seok-chan would even try to set you both up. while on one hand you would’ve accepted in a heart beat but on the other, you didn’t want to get so close and attached to someone else.

you sat beside the bed your brother was in, in the infirmary. it had been a few days and although he was still feeling weak, he looked a lot better.

he was still sleeping as you waited patiently, you didn’t want to wake him. you hummed to yourself, trying to pass time. suddenly, you heard the door open and saw yeong-hu.

he had tight fitted navy green shirt on, with it tucked into his cargos. the shirt fit his torso well and you could see the slight outline of his abs and his biceps flexed as he moved his arms. you must’ve been staring because he then cleared his throat.

“how is he doing?” he asked and you quickly turned to look back at your brother.

“a lot better, he’s just being very stubborn and not wanting to rest so whenever he’s sleeping i don’t wake him unless he needs to eat” you explained.

“i’ll come back later then” yeong-hu turned to leave.

“wait” your voice came out quieter than you wanted it to and you stood up and walked towards the door too “i wanted to speak with you actually”

yeong-hu was slightly surprised but nodded his head.

“we can talk while i walk you back to your room” he said and you both began to walk

for the first few minutes, you didn’t speak but then as you got closer to your room you decided to tell him what you wanted to tell him.

“i just want to thank you for everything you’ve done. really, im so thankful for everything you’ve done for my brother and i” you told him as you both finally approached your room “i’ve got something for you actually. wait here”

you hurriedly went into your room and grabbed the plushie.

“this is for you” you smiled holding out the plushie.

yeong-hu took the plushie from you, a smile creeping on his face.

“thank you” he breathed out-he was now grinning.

“i got you a turtle because you’re like one” you explained to which he raised an eyebrow “like a turtle, you have a tough exterior but on the inside you’re actually a softie”

“i’ll keep this close to me” he chuckled before putting the plushie in his pocket.

your heart beat pounded as you thought about what you were about to do next. you leaned up and pressed your lips onto yeong-hu’ cheek.

he froze for a second.

“take care y/n” he said with a nod, not looking at you before walking away.

you gulped.

had you made a mistake?

the following days, you tried to speak with yeong-hu but he completely avoided you. you didn’t understand why.

had you done something wrong by kissing his cheek?

you didn’t know.

seok-chan was now able to sit up in bed and you spent as much time as you could caring for him.

“i don’t understand, does he not like me back? i thought that now i’d give it a chance but maybe i was wrong to do so” you were ranting to seok-chan about the whole situation.

“quite the opposite actually, he’s just too coward to admit it” he sighed under his breath but you had managed to pick up what was said.

“what did you say?” your eyes went wide and seok-chan shook his head.

“nothing” he swallowed hard.

“you’re lucky you’re already injured or else i would’ve fought you to tell me everything you know” you warned your brother as you decided to head out to find yeong-hu.

you wanted answers and you wanted to be with him.

it took you a while but you found him. he was in his room and was surprised to see you standing at his room door.

“i like you a lot and i want us to be more than friends” you said it straight.

“y/n don’t do this” yeong-hu rubbed his jaw “you shouldn’t like me”

“why shouldn’t i? huh? you shouldn’t get so involved within my life that i start caring for you and then just try to act like you don’t know me!” there was hurt in your voice.

“it’s not that simple, you’re one of my- it’s inappropriate”

“but you like me, don’t you? otherwise you wouldn’t be saying anything”

you reached forward and took yeong-hu’ hand into yours. he accepted the touch and after a moment he held onto your hand and pulled you closer to him.

he took a deep breath in as he leaned down, his lips gently hovered over yours and you closed your eyes as he then kissed you. it was a short but sweet kiss and he rested his forehead against yours once it was over.

“of course, i like you” yeong-hu said in a low voice.

“so let’s be more than friends” you whispered and he paused.

yeong-hu then reconnected his lips and you smile into the kiss.

that was your answer.
